I like the fingerprint sensor on the side better than on the screen and it is very responsive. Honestly I like everything about this phone and so glad I switched from Samsung. This is not a kiddie phone. This is for adult professionals who see their phone as a tech tool and not afraid to learn something new to get the most out of this phone. Also,like u mentioned it fits better in the hand and is lighter than the Samsung brick. Can't speak for iPhone as I've always been android user .

I set up right and left hand fingers and I can unlock the phone easily whether it's holding it straight, laying on the table, in a car phone holder, etc
Yes, not 100% reliable, but 100% more comfortable and easier to use when set up right (for me, it's right thumb, right index, left thumb, left middle - my main 4; though this is on am Xperia 5 and not 1, but same principle - find a combination that fits your size)
One thing I do wonder is when Sony will use face unlock again... Yes... Sony used to have face unlock on the Xperia Z, early infancy technology lol
I got these phone and it's fantastic.
I think the price is fine, if you consider that s23 ultra 512GB costs pretty much the same, but lucks a lot of things, like a cripple (so as most phones), no 3.5, SD slot and etc. I'm a PRO videographer and photographer, and I shot on Sony A1 as main camera, and I do know how best picture quality should look like, but even I shoot 95% in AUTO on these phone, and I get great results, if you know, how NOT to take a bad picture (against light, wipe the camera, dont shake it). I think it's price is more than justified, cause it covers for me as an MP3 player, audio recorder, on camera monitor, and pretty much a mini 4K Oled TV. All the features on PRO software Sony provides with it, is hands down best in a smartphone for playing with, and even using it in some work. It's very strict looking and just beautiful, with no holes in a screen. Personally for me, it's the only smartphone on the market, which has a lot unique innovative tech in it, that gives joy, and is not trying to buy people with stupid "numbers" - more Megapixels, GB of Ram and etc per $, what are just plain base specs, you get in every phone.
Sony builds the only real pro devices.HDR is 99% off for me.Then you don't have to hold the device still😅
Against the sun (if there is no other option) M Mode, spot metering, slightly overexposed and then edit the sky in Lightroom.
The finger print is perfect and works all the time, you are squeezing ur finger hence sensor cannot read the finger print as the shape is changed when under pressure.
One of the biggest downside for Sony Xperia phones is software upgrade support. Like my 1 mk II, still perfectly functioning but reached end of support after a mere 2 years and then not even a single security patch is available.

@@lltechview he is saying the truth. That phone came out with Android 10 and it got stuck on Android 12 and no security patches, which is even worse. He probably received the last security update more than 1 year ago. No excuses for Sony, they launch 3 phones per year and give only 2 years of support. They can easily give 4 years of android OS updates and 5 security patches just like Samsung.
It's not even hard for those companies to compile this android roms + new security patches it takes like 30 minutes + 1 day of testing that's nothing but it's to expensive lmao
same... but i do not see it as a deal breaker - it is an ideal addition, too, knowing how their hardware last that long (still have the xperia miro... got it a decade ago)... and using 1 ii since 2020, i really do not see it as something that old as it is excellently working until now... but, guess what? being a work phone, i have to shift to iphone 11 pro "for a while"... but will go back to xperia soon - either 1v or 5v...
Sony does SODP so you can support it yourself longer
Been using it for videos and pictures. I'm very happy with the camera. One thing that's cropped up is a semi-macro mode if you digitally zoom in with the 24mm lens and don't swap to the 85-125mm. Looking forward to the improved bokeh in the software once the updates from the 5 V carry over.
I saw somebody say that digital zoom from main sensor is better overall quality than the starting point of 85mm (but not better than 125mm), is it true?

The only thing keeping me switching from iPhone to Sony is the Live Photos. Live Photos really helps capture those quick and perfect moments of family that no photo editing can ever fix.
But you can shoot hi-burst on the sony so you get 20fps stills. Then you miss nothing, though you do have to plough through a dozen or so stills to save your fave.

Aaron, thanks a lot for this content ! I'm glad to see it in your hands with focus on audio which is more important for me than camera. Im considering to change iphone 14 pro to it to get access to high quality audio codecs and direct cable connection through DAC. One highlight to Xperia, if they would change 4k resolution to 2k and add LTPO, it would be perfect because lets be honest, we dont need 4k in mobile display :)
No problem, thanks for watching! It's a very small display so the resolution is seriously overkill. With LTPO the Sony could have best in class battery for a phone. They could probably move more units like this.
i only recently moved from my LG V30 which has an amazing quad dac....sorry but the sony sound ok...nice speakers but with good headphones....LG V30 still wins even though its 6 years old

You always make great content. I usually have to edit my Xperia photos in Lightroom to get the exact image I want, but these phones do a stellar job at maintaining detail when editing

I really like the 1 v i think its a great phone i have the 5 iii and ive been amazed at the features as you pointed out with the hdr not being that good ive found it to show the clouds in the sky but i guess it depends on how you use it. 👍

I have the MkV , I use it for work and my daily driver as well as keeping memories as my family grow.
The problem with having so much control is it can lead to to much fine tuning instead of just using what is needed . My self at first.
It all takes practice, latest update has kinda helped HDR but it doesn't seem to reflect in the view finder.
I'd also like the phone to set a default brightness when using the camera as the histogram and screen have caught me out.
The 4k screen isn't overkill as it's meant to be used as an external monitor for a full function camera which you pointed out.
I guess Sony wants everything to look as clear and crisp as possible.
I feel that the Snapdragon and Sony isp conflict a bit as at times I've had exceptional images and others very soft and noisy when using the 0.7 lens and 85-125mm
Yet the 85-100 mm has given some amazing pictures.
I feel the software just needs tweaking.
The MKIV had a good amount of updates, not ground breaking but they improved the camera quite a bit over time.
Most of the computational magic happens in jpeg but RAW and Snapseed or lightroom do produce exceptional images.
Auto over basic too seems to be better for images .
As for sound absolutely my favourite out and about music device .
I had an original iPod classic and that did and still sounds great but having everything in one place certainly makes my life a bit easier.
I think like most Sony products, it's all in there but still needs a little tweaking .
The build is fantastic.
I set my finger print to index and thumb , so far I've not had issues.
There is a china update that has added switchable refresh rate between used apps ,

I work in the audio industry /music and the part that gets overlooked is the mk5 audio capabilities. This phone is the best phone for audio listening out there at the moment. A TRUE HIDDEN GEM FOR AUDIOPHILES

I'm considering a phone upgrade and I'd like it to offer the best possible music quality on wired headphones (IEMs). Does Xperia have an advantage in sound quality over the iPhone or other phones with DAC?
not as good as my lg v30 sound wise on wired headphones....
iPhone's are pretty much playing audio BitPerfect out of the box. Now the newer iPhone's have USB-C ports, the world is your oyster especially when it comes to pairing them up with high end DACS.
The focusing on the basic mode seems a little bit lagging , and the auto mode could have been better.

The improvements sony should make in my opinion:
1. When using basic photo mode and have burst mode on, let the shutter button have a half of a second delay before if goes into burst mode. so that you can both make single shots and burst shots with the physical shutter button very easy and quickly.
2. Seemless zoom also to the selfie camera, so you can easely switch to selfie camera while recording, super useful for social media and it would be an amazing feature.
3. An excemption button for gps/navigation google maps in de battery saving mode so you can easely strowl around cities while using google maps and still have the best batttery life. also amazing for when you are lost or so.
These would be the best improvements in my opion as a general user (using the xperia 5ii now). 98% the time i am shooting in auto mode anyway.
And i got a whole list of smaller improvements but these main 3 would make this phone so much more better
Btw just letting you know in case people still hasn't realized:
The reason why they do not use under screen fingerprint sensor is also partly due to the same reason and design principle of a full unmolested screen without ugly notch or empty hole
As under screen fingerprint sensors requires, and would not work, unless there is a scan sized hole in the screen
With the only difference to the cameras being that the hole can be partially covered and obstructed with pixels, rather than being fully clear as is the case with cameras to not affect selfie picture quality; as demonstrated with the failed attempts at the full screen with pixel filled holes of a few Chinese phones a few years ago
(An idea and development which the whole industry excitedly awaited and looked on, but ultimately abandoned due to image quality degradation, since physics is a thing; at for the time being until further display tech advancements)
This only applies to the light based fingerprint reader and not an ultrasonic one.
Is it better over new Pixel 8 Pro? Xperia would cost e 500$ less but Pixel will have a free watch 2 as a pre-order. In doubt which one to choose

I have the Xperia Pro i and still love this device after two years.For me it is the best device I have had so far.Everyone always says Pro, but what about the iPhone or S23 Ultra Pro or Ultra?The S23 may be an Ultra size but the camera is bad. I mean even a Pixel 6 has the better camera.It's exactly like you said, you buy Sony because of the camera and because of the audio features.

But, comparing Xperia 1 IV vs ROG phone 7, with the same FLAC music, using same Poweramp configuration, Xperia is better than ROG (my wired headphones is FIIO JD3)

@@AGNDoesTech I've waited a year for it to come out but I'm disappointed as the side bezels are wider compared to the 5 iv and there's no adaptable refresh rate or led notification. Guess I'll be waiting another year to see if they fix these issues
For left hand holding fingerprint unlock just register your middle finger as one of the prints. Or whatever other finger is more comfortable.
I have several fingers from both hands registered. Problem solved.
Good phone but extensively overheats when recording in 4k 60/120 fps.
The battery was a mixed bag in my usage, was forced to use stamina battery mode which started off well but became satisfactory.
Lastly, I think Sony needs offer better computational photography as its very bad and would make this phone more appealing to non-professional photographers.

5:10 wtf you mean stabilization looks nice it looks bad, it bumps at every step, at slow walking, not even my 6 year old Note 8 does that, and to be honest I don't feel like the photos are great. Sure you need to know what you are doing, but for extra work, I do ask for better results. I do expect that with proper settings to get better pictures then iPhone 14 or S23, but what is the deal here? about the same price, for extra work, for worse results? Sony needs to do a huge step forward in photo quality. This is not acceptable.
Most people will favor the google pixel poin and shoot and let AI do its thing..

I like the side fingerprint sensor cum power button though. It's the most well thought through because it unlocks all in one.
As for face unlock the technology is yet to mature is it can easily be hacked into.
I also hope it comes with great macro sensor though 😊😊

This is a very nice phone, feels different and you can brag to otherd you have a sony and not a samsung or iphone which are overrated.
Slightly gun shy on the M v. I have a MIV now, its my daily. While I love the pics, and how it's like a camera, things I do not love. Bright sun, it's useless. The overheating issue. Was at a car show, and my Sony taped out. No WiFi calling.....5g ant is suspect on Verizon. My fingerprint scanner has stopped working. I have to reset the phone to make it work, for a little while, then it stops again. When on speaker phone, people cannot understand me sometimes....not sure what that is about, because my phone sits on a mount.
Just some of the things that has happened with my M IV and I pre-ordered it. So I have had it since day one it shipped. I know the 5 fixed a lot of different issues, but I belive there is still no WiFi calling, The WiFi ants are not that great still, and a few other issues carried over. Glad to hear the cams improved, and the basic mode has better calculations for pic taking. I guess I will wait and see what a few more phones offer before I decide.
Who knows Sony buys Sony.
It's not a non sense device like others.
As an audiophile I personally think the whole audio section of this phone is all a gimmick. (Except maybe DSEE Ultimate), Dolby Atmos and 360 audio makes the audio worse in my opinion, the difference is especially noticeable if you're using an external USB C DAC/AMP.
Completely agree 100% I have both Xperia 1 V and LG V20/V40/V60 and I can say there's nothing particularly remarkable about Sony that LG didn't do in terms of wired headphones. Sure, the speakers sound good. But wired is where it actually matters.
Sad that LG was the most innovative. I will keep it as a wifi entertainment device until it stops working. I don't know what to do after the Pixel 6 Pro and V60.@@Aaronduhmoron
Sony is pricing their phones high because they want to be perceived as a premium brand but, ironically, if they priced this competitively, they'd actually be more popular.
People compare 128gb "start at" smartphones with Sony who have been releasing with base 256gb for years

The constant noise made during recording movies is horrible. The front camera is horrible.
The biggest thing keeping me on Samsung instead of moving to the Xperia 1 V is the 10x zoom lens. I find it so useful.

I'm using the Xperia 1 V since its release and have been happy with it. However it is definitely overpriced
The amount of show offs that complain about how hard it is to use 'the' camera are simply embarrassed by paying good money for the best kit then realising it highlights their lack of basic skills. Hilarious too because there are THREE camera apps and 3 lenses to play with and ALL of rich show off mode - aka Auto.
Lack of support for the money after just two yeara makes this phone an absolute no go
3 years software updates though. 2 years Android upgrades.
Some of those pics and videos are not great, not even good. Impressive sound though.

Instead of asking why people don't buy Xperia, we should ask if Xperia is willing to sell it. thin, useless screen, unattractive design and inadequate hardware. As long as the Xperia team doesn't sit down and talk about it, there won't be any sales. It was very nice to see a phone on the stand in the past. All the phones that I thought should be mine would be Xperia, unfortunately there is no trace of the old one.
