    hey Jonathan, your advice here is EXACTLY what I needed to hear! I am the sucker for gear you are describing. QUESTION: how are you getting those sharp details out of the c70 or pcc4k? the detail on skin is incredible. I'm using L-series and I don't get skin pores like that, also, where is all of the noise?! how bro?

    • @JonathanPalfrey
      @JonathanPalfrey  2 месяца назад

      Thanks. It was probably a sigma lens that I got those shots, either 18-35 or 50mm it certainly helps with softer cameras like the C70 that said I think we are just all more critical of our own work than others.
      I know at the time of that shoot I was actually pretty disappointed at the results of the C70, it’s only a couple of years later when you haven’t a been staring at it on a timeline that you can appreciate it.

      @@UrbanCoyoteMedia Why so you think no one would buy a Z mount RED? It makes perfec sense Nikon have the shortest focal flange on the market so if they make a RED with a Z mount then actually its benefitial to absolutely everyone. You can adapt everything to a Z mount so a RED with a Z mount would be amazing, you can literally adapt it all, E, RF, L, X, EF, F, PL its all there all can be adapted to. Ridiculous! All of them offer features no other camera does! Global shutter is not that easy to pull off, if it was all cameras would have it - let alone with absolutely no penalty in dynamic range. The color science is better than any camera company, and R3D files are the best in post. Triple based ISO is NOTHING compared to absolute pull back in post! Triple Based ISO is still baked in ISO. Also, RED has the best camera app allowing total remote control. FYI, not other company has *real* raw in camera - BRAW, NRAW, none are real raw, and not 16 bit. CLog and SLog are not even competitive.

    It’s crazy we are dancing around the idea of slog 3 being almost obsolete. I’ve used red raw out of the KX and it’s unreal I do wish the fx3 had setting similar to it for sure . If the fx3 were about a $1000 less I think it would be on point for the current times .

      Slog3 is not even close to obsolete. If you can't get a good quality image with slog3 or almost a modern log for that matter you just don't know what you're doing. Raw is so incredibly overrated. I have a high end camera that does raw, not worth the data rate (I've made the mistake a tried shooting almost everything on raw and you quickly learn that its just impractical for storage) and I'm very experienced so raw gives me little over what I can do with slog3. Now don't get me wrong, I shot raw on high end stuff that I really want to get the most out of my camera but often times I don't feel like it's that much better. I can grade slog3 really well so I don't feel that there is a huge difference when compare to raw. Again if you know what you're doing you'll get a great image regardless.

    In my opinion this was a stupid move on Red's part. I bought a KX in Feb this year at full price, to drop the price by nearly 30% in a year means I'll never buy another Red. Why would anyone buy a Red now based on their handling of pricing? Would you buy a new Red in future when there's a chance of it dropping 30% in a year, if you do you have more money than brains. Sony and Canon retains their value far better

    • @guptageneralstores5243
      @guptageneralstores5243 2 месяца назад +7

      It's basic math. Say a camera is released today and it is perfect for my job and costs $100. And a year later it will cost $70. Now waiting for a year will save me $30. But if I am going to be making $50 in this one year, because of the efficiency and leg up this gear will offer me, then I will be LOSING $20 by waiting for the prices to drop. If someone gets this as a tool for their craft, it is still a bomb purchase, but if it is a clear overkill for the returns they are making or the work they do or someone who upgrades their gear every year because of gear acquisition syndrome then, well, tears.
