For me, the best will always be Dunlop Ultex .73 sharps. The tone is uniquely bright, and the material lasts longer than normal picks. Other than that, I like the Dunlop Petrucci signatures, green and yellow Tortex sharps, and brass picks from this company called DR Picks out of Texas. Also, I absolutely loved the Black Fangs. They sounded amazing
I liked the Purity, too. Not sure if I like it more enough to replace the Dunlop Flows I've recently started to enjoy, but I could see myself buying them once I'm a better player. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for the comment! I haven't tried the Dunlop Flows yet. If they work for you and you are able to achieve the tone and the level you want, that's great. Rock on! 🤘
My ear is very untrained but I always like when I can hear the slightest of differences with plectrums. It normally happens on the actual motion and I think the main thing is the technique used with each pick that affects the actual playing, big fan of the Dunlop flows that I got recently, this vid makes me want to try some of those Winspear ones.
If you don’t mind, how long does the shiv ice grip last? I usually use blue chip picks which seem to last literally forever, and I play the exact same heavy gallop picking stuff you do and find everything else just wears round. Cheers, -Ollie
The ice grip does last long as well! But I rarely play with it, since it feels a bit soapy. Especially when I'm sweating when performing live, the Ice grip slips out of my fingers the whole time.
Sven, great video. I am using Dunlop Jazz III picks right now. Before that I was using Dunlop Max Grip .88's, which are much bigger. I'm sorry to say that my ears cannot pick up subtle differences in the guitar tone when you were using different picks. But my ears have a hard time hearing subtly differences in tone woods, similar pick ups, and on and on. But I think that's ok, because I can just pick something and play and it sounds good to me either way. I really liked the look of those Winspear picks though. If I had to pick a favorite, it'd be the Purity.
Thanks, Richard! It is indeed sometimes difficult to hear the differences between picks, that does not only depend on your ears, but also on the device you use to listen to it. In the end, all that matters is what works for you, and for you alone! Keep on rocking!
Dunlop 474 jazz stubby's and those carbon fiber max grip jazz 3's are my go to plectrums. I have a couple of boutique plectrums that are my favorites but they cost so much that I just keep them at home. They are both made from titanium and I love the attack and feel but at $20 each it's a bit of a risk losing them out of my pocket L O L.
Hmm, all those picks are available in my country (Russia), but not Winspear (and never was even a mention about it), sad, their sound (purity) i liked the best. And gator .. i just wanted to buy a pack of those, thnx for the vid, will not do it, indeed they're soft sounding :/
Well, I believe that it's important for people to compare picks and to find out what works for them. There are a lot of choices indeed. What pick do you use?
