I find that the carved bone shards of Christian martyrs, dipped in a black goat’s blood, get the best tone. But they’re getting really expensive on Reverb these days.
I liked the Ernie Ball Prodigy picks, but they just melted too quickly. A while back I discovered the Dunlop 461PJL picks. They're like the prodigy, but more polished than matte, and they last longer than any other I've found. Highly recommend for anyone who does black metal
I use a Dunlop Big Stubby 3mm personally, I feel that the fat and curved shape helps me with quick/tremolo picking, I don't feel comfortable with the normal flat picks
For a while now I've used a Dunlop Nylon .38mm plectrum for tremolo picking. I found the bendiness of it was the only way I could make it sound as if I was playing fast note by note as I was thrashing away. Needless to say, I'm crap at tremolo picking. 😀
I used Fender Extra Heavy for decades. Switched to Jazz III at some point around 2000. Since then Dunlop Primetone Jazz III 1.4 mm, Dunlop Primetone Triangle small 1.4mm, John Petrucci Triangle sm, Jeff Loomis Primetone 1.5 mm, Prodigy Triangle sm 2.0mm. I also love V picks but they are expensive, Vpick Viper, Black Hole, Stilletto all very sharp and acrylic. Everything else I tried has a drag to it or a chirp which I cannot stand. Those Primetones produce the best sound. The Loomis and Petrucci are made of primetone material too.
I’ve used almost every pick at the store. I really like the jazz iii but I find it too small to play chords and it likes to jump out of my hand. The John petrucci jazz iii is a little bigger with a little more grip and the point is smooth. Might be my favorite pick so far. I think butterfly picking chords is easier with a thin pick but can’t stand playing single note riffs with a thin pick. And definitely pointed over rounded for metal
I like stiffer rounded picks personally, but I always take a soldering iron and poke through a few rough holes. Makes jagged teeth that makes the pick 100% non slip. Wears off kinda but still Gives a better grip then anything you can buy even after worn a bit
The biggest ones makes a little difference but the real change is for the player ;) (I'm playing on big ones, I have some difficulties to come back to 1mm) I can't remember : Did you make a video about pickups in BM ?
I hate how many different picks are on the market. I have tried at least 20 different types, and they all have their pros and cons. The Jazz III XL is great for single notes but kinda hard for 2/3 string fast chording. It would be a lot easier if there only existed 3 or 4 gauges of the same pick, like in the 60's.
@@SimonSmithGuitar my goal is to gallop and riff effortlessly like As I Lay Dying ... lets see which type of pick proves to be more convenient to do the job ... any suggestions? it makes a lot of sense to use pointed ones if you want to tremolo pick ... but for gallops ?

Lmfao
Still less morally objectionable than actual tortoise shell.
@@Tehstroyer 😂🤣😂🤣. I have to agree with you on that one.
😁🤘🏻
I used to use these but eventually I realized they sound exactly the same as normal picks. I wish I learned this sooner.
That Tortex sharp 1,5 is my top favourite. I've got a whole collection of them 🤣🤣
Great demonstration, Simon! You can really hear a difference! Opens up possibilities for more variety when doubling guitars! Thanks!

Jazz III
Standard Medium Fender style celluloid picks for me for all styles. Great tremolo melody & Bonham beat, btw! I can listen to that combo all day!
Big stubbys 3.0 are my choice. They tremolo like a hot knife thru butter

I use Jazz 3s, so comfortable to tremolo on

I use 3mm Jim dunlops chunky purple things they are great for trem picking lets u dig in real good big stubby they are named
Theyre the best. I cant even use jazz 3s anymore
They also have them in grey nylon. The purple ones give a warmer sound but the nylon bites/binds more with the strings imo.
I use tortex sharp 1.5mm. It's like butter
I use the purple tortex 1.5mm sharps
Great video Simon, that was awesome man 😀🤘🎵🔥🔥🔥🔥
Слишком хорошо играет,разница незаметна.
Hammet jazz 3 works very well!
I just started using those Flow Jumbo 4.2mm picks. Very comfortable to play.

Jazz III with grip is where it's at 🤘💀🤘
🤘😎🤘
7 mm Wegen pick. My favorite pick hands down.........
Feliz día de la madre 🥂🥳☝🏽🎂 don Simón 🤘🏽🦡✨

Fatty nylon Jazz III for Thrash, skinny tortex Jazz III for Black Metal. The tortex is like a 5db boost to everything above 2k
I guess that I am more of a fan , of the acrylics. I use any where from 2mm to 3mm . It just depends on what I am playing.
For me, nothing too light, too thick, or too sharp is the way to go.
I use purple Dunlop Tortex Triangles

Does anyone know what picks Euronymous used to use?
im using ernie ball shield, medium size
max-grip jazz III ftw
Tortex III are very nice picks. WHY Ultex sharp shape isn't same as Tortex sharp? Where is Ultex III?
Awesome video 📸

ผอมลงนะท่าน 55 from thailand
i play with 0.46mm pick , easily bendable... feeling stupid of me now :|
Why feeling stupid? It's personal taste.
