- The first day of the mullet season threw up an absolute monster fish for Ollie! The less said about my result the better though 🤣🤣
The camera really doesn't do the fish justice, it looked WAY bigger in real life, and the scales were thoroughly checked afterwards!
Nice one guys, good sport. I will be caravanning next week in the new forest and will be calling into the shop for some tactics, tackle and bait. Have you ever eaten mullet, we did on Cornish family holidays 50 years ago (before water company pollution), tasted great back then! Keep the vids coming Tom👍
I quite enjoy mullet from the open coast, but not a fan once they've been in the river/harbour systems.
Thanks for educating me! 😊
No worries :-)
Super fish, what a beauty! Enjoyed the video from the other day too - more thin lip videos please! 😄
Thanks Ben! I'm gutted the fish didn't look anywhere near it's size in the video! It really was a monster! There'll definitely be more mullet videos! You know me, addicted!
@@christchurchanglingcentre5428 I can’t get enough of em too mate, fantastic fish! 🥰
Thanks already made a Rig up first signs of Mackrell and I will try it.
Great video guys looking forward to the mullet spinning videos this year.
Not as much as I look forward to making them 🤣 My addiction starts again!
Brilliant fish 🎉
Thanks mate
Stonker, well done that man!!
Absolutely superb fish and video, could you explain your fishing method for these please, cheers
Thanks mate. Check out these videos, they'll explain what we were up to!

What a belting fish - congratulations!
Thanks mate. Ollie's one happy angler!
Well done Ollie thats a beaut!
She was an absolute beast! The video really does it no justice!
Another great mullet vid Tom 👏👌 What an absolute donkey of a thin ❤️🎣 Can you get the thicks there trotting flake over mashed bread?
You sure can mate. Usually a bit later in the year, August through October time, conditions depending!
@@christchurchanglingcentre5428 Thankyou as always Tom, much appreciated 🎣❤️
Wow what a nice fish. That’s the biggest I’ve seen come out of there.
Likewise mate. I was made up just to witness it! The video does it no justice at all. It was FAR bigger than it looks!
Congratulations 🎉
Thanks mate
Hi Tom great video as always, on these types of venues would you say there’s a preferred stat of the tide? Thanks
Sorry for late reply! Playing catch up on a few comments I've missed!
For the spinning I prefer the ebb tide, and even better if that coincides with last light.
And will the pop up mackerel method work on Worthing beaches?
It'll work on all beaches where mackerel are mate. What ruins pop up fishing is weed, sadly!
(A) congrats on a stunning pb. (B) received my Mepps ready made and HTO box within 24 hours, brilliant service. (C) this was supposed to be a work trip where you explained how you use your bating needle, so I can only give you 9 and a half out of ten. 😊
Ah fiddle sticks!!! I completely forgot that! Looks like I'll have to go again! Just my luck!
Great video Tom, were the fish on artificial worms or real ones and do you find that it fishes better on the run-off?
I think they were all on the real in the end. It definitely fishes better on the run off. We spent a good couple of hours waiting for the tide to start running. Then 4 fish in about 40 mins before we lost the light.
@@christchurchanglingcentre5428 Thanks Tom
Cracking mullet ❤
There's one with your name on it down there matey
I will be trying (as usual 😂)
Yes. Trying. Indeed.
@@christchurchanglingcentre5428 😂
The summer pink hat needs christening tom come on !!!
I know! I feel I've let the hat down!
mullet season when??
In Christchurch Harbour spinning isn't allowed until 15th May, so we unofficially call this opening day for spinning for the thin lips
maybe you should start charging them for tuition. but what a stonking fish.
Great idea! I'll mention it to them...
Where your fishing do you need a rod licence ? And a club membership ( Ringwood )
You don't need a rod licence if you're fishing for the sea fish. You can either join RDAA or get a day ticket on the Gocatch app.
@@christchurchanglingcentre5428 sorry to ask Tom but that means I can fish anywhere I can see Mullet with out needing a Ringwood ticket including clay pool ! Is there restrictions on how you can fish for sea fish ? Ie only by lure ? Can't use swim feeder with maggots as you could catch river fish in the brackish water! When your going for Mullet! I take it I can fish static baits for thick lipped mullet .. I'm only asking so I don't get Greif from Bayliff from RCC .also do you know if you can use live baits in Christchurch harbour for bass ?
@@rickphillips5098 sorry Rick, I think we're getting our wires crossed. You don't need a rod licence, but you do need either a RDAA membership or a day ticket to fish there. The boundary is right down the bottom of the harbour, near the expensive beach huts!
Once you've acquired your membership or day ticket, you can fish for the sea fish on conventional rigs and bait (i.e. crab or rag) all year round and spin from May 15th (this is due to the salmon and sea trout season. Coarse baits like bread and maggot are permitted after June 16th in line with the coarse fishing season. I'd recommend a rod licence if you're doing this, even though you're targetting sea fish, it just saves an argument!
I hope that clears that up. Sorry for any confusion.
Superb mullet 👏 & a my worm is bigger then your worm contest thrown in for good measures 🪱
What's your favourite tide to fish it?
Without doubt the ebbing tide in the evening. So this time of year a low about 9/10pm, then fish 6pm onwards. We struggled until the tide turned on this session, then ran out of light!
Cheers Tom. I'm actually down here now had a couple of hours, no joy, even after my 15th one more cast!
Still, there's always another day, lovely sunset though.
@@richpeas1924 I think the tide's a bit late this evening unfortunately
