Turbo EG33 Subaru WRX STI Hits the Dyno! THIS THING IS WILD!!!!

- We're back for round 2 on Josh Dyno for the EG33 Swapped Subaru WRX STI! Overall lemme say things went WAY better than before but that's not without some smaller issues coming up. We made some good power but capped the Fuel Injectors WAY SOONER than I was anticipating so we will be making another trip back to Bader built in the coming months to turn this thing up a lot more. But great forward progress on things that we wouldn't have otherwise known if it wasn't on a dyno. Huge Shout out to Josh over Bader built for tuning and the help on this thing.

It even sounds better on E85! What a difference E85 makes. The wait for this video was well worth it
It loves the E85 🔥
The sync issue is probably related to wiring. The clean and dirty grounds are crossed. Also check your clean and dirty power connections. You MUST ensure clean and dirty are separated.
Tearing it down a bit this week to see what we can find
Probably...
Sensor ground and actual engine/chassis ground should not mixed together...
But if u were going to pull out the wiring... Put heat-sleeve on the wiring and mini heatshield at both cam and crank sensor maybe a good idea
@@AmirPomen Solely based on the behavior of the car, it seems something cooling related, probably cooling fans, are causing noise on the clean ground side. I don't think it's a sensor temperature issue.
@@Smeedia I had the exact same issue in two cars, a 2005 STI, and 2011 STI both running a haltech elite 2500 and it turned out to be electrical. I solved it by reducing the trigger arming voltage in the ECU. I had to datalog the trigger voltage and see where it was going out of sync and reduce the trigger arming voltage in the appropriate range. It was an intermittent issue that would come and go. I really do think it's a bug with the Haltech, but Haltech doesn't seem to think so.
My man, you are literally the R&D engineering front on a build like this. You are paving the way for the Subaru community with this swap. If I were close to you I’d def come offer another engineering technical brain into the mix 👌
Eyyyy always appreciate the support. Having multiple brains to bounce things off of does make things better 🔥
Just seeing this for the first time .. great sound , ( gave me goose bumps) amazing build. I’m new to the wrx community ( mine doesn’t arrive til April 2023 ) But I have been loyal to Subaru for 20 years driving legacy’s and one outback 3.6R . All of you guys are a great inspiration.
Congrats Tanner Blue sounded Great OMG E85 the car woke up and said Hello .
Baders such a genius, wish I didn’t live in Ontario Canada and could work with him
Man no lie you are a pioneer in this engine/body set up hands down an inspiration
One problem at a time we will get them all sorted 💪🔥
@@Smeedia hell yeah brother, you got this for sure
Congrats Tanner! Solid progress! It really woke up on E85! As far as crank and cam position issues since you have that custom made harness I’d just double check the pins and connectors on those sensor.
Think I may just rebuild a harness 😮💨😅
@@Smeedia wow you trully are in love with wiringing good on you 😂😂😂
Nah, I hate it but I need to do it 😅
@@Smeedia check continuity/ ohms in the wires to and from sensors to ecu before you rebuild it.
Tanner you absolute madman. That short little clip if you driving away from the shop....that car is beyond what I thought it would be lol. Can't wait to see what else she's capable of.
It felt absolutely wild 🔥🔥🔥
It’s bedtime (traveling in Italy) so I can’t watch live but I’m excited to see the results over breakfast! Congratulations 🥳
Have fun in Italy 🥳🥳🥳
Man a great video brother. Bluebaru sounds amazing 👏
The Bluebaru sounded so good upon start-up inside the enclosed trailer...love that thing!!
@2:33 oh nooooo our boy Josh totally jinxed it! this was such a great video. everything happens for a reason. time to build it better then ever.
Saw a sneak perk on Devin’s account earlier!! So pumped for this!
🤭🤭🤭
bro 3 goats in one vid😂 devin and bader on a smeedia vid can’t get any better😮💨
I am so glad the camera shots I took turned out good! Because I got really nervous when you handed me the camera. That day was a fun experience 😁
10/10 on thr camera work my friend 😅🔥
After thus tune its really cool to hear oil Bluebaru sounds before and after. Dammm that tune really makes a difference. Josh Bader ,wow man he really knows his stuff. 👋
Hugeeeeee diffrenece 💪🔥
That boy josh badder is an infinate amount of sububitch knowledge. He’s a wizard in his craft.
That he is 🔥
A 40 minute video hearing this beast is the best thing I could’ve asked for. Also it may have been acting up cause you kept insulting it. I love hearing how mean and raspy it sounds!!! This thing is gonna murder some people.
I felt like insulting it was my only option 😅😅😅
Saw a teaser on Devins channel super excited for the video
Been waiting for this for like 2.5 years now. Subscribed back around 10k subs haha
My god man, this car is the definition of Japanese muscle🥺😍😍😍😍
E-Ticket focking ride!! Blue is just getting started. Great vid Tanner 👍 BEAST!
Like 20 steps forward 💪🔥
Been watching this monster VA come to life from day 1 bro.. such emotion. Awesome job brother as always.
Dude congratulations! This car is so beautiful! 🔥 🔥 🔥 you are INSANE AND I LOVE YOU!
Eyyyyy Thank you Mr Beans!!!
You’ll get it sorted man, look how far you’ve come! 👊💪
Each issue just makes it so we have a better car 💪
Keep pushing, friend. Lots of power left to give. Small details aggravating
Just gotta keep ironing out the small things now 💪
Tanner I'm still f#$%n proud of you for building this car..it is great progress so far.. For the caliber of this build, I think it actually has gone pretty good I would say..keep it up brotha!
I'm still happy with it 🥳 with every set back we have, it will build a better car 💪
@@Smeedia amen brotha!
#Moontune!! Lol. You guys are my heroes hahaha. Super mesmerizing to witness this all unfold. #Bbrracing is 🔥 (literally)awesome progress guys, every gremlin is fixable though.
We have our slogan at the shop here, "keep it simple"
Regardless of issues faced during the tuning process, i believe the car will get to were you want it to be in time. The thing is bro, with all the issues faced, it only makes you smarter.
Big facts, each problem makes the car better and better. Of we would have stopped before we wouldent be where we are now 🔥
You're getting there. I know it feels like forever till it's dialed in and consistently running how you want.
Honestly with every problem comes a suction and we get closer and closer
@@Smeedia closer and closer
Congrats Tanner - great to see Blu makin some sauce 👏 - again great content 👍 keep doin the things 🔥
Thank you Tyler 🥳🔥
I cant wait to see what it makes on the dyno so excited
One day at a time 🥳🔥
3 of my favorite RUclipsrs in 1 video.
Was a party 😁😁😁
Dudee! glad to see it on the dyno, congrats fot the numbers, I have the same problem :D, but soon i'll take mine to dyno hope to get same result :D:D
We're all learning here. Thanks Tanner
Learning one day at a time 🥳
@@Smeedia we're there brother!!! We are there!!!
This car has made MASSIVE PROGRESS! Don't let it wear you down man. The ride sounds SICK! Love that launch control, music to my ears!
We getting there one step at a time, I see it all as R&D 😅🔥
Yah but that's part of the fun of this car. Turning wrench cutting fingers its why its fun! for me at least. You love it or hate it and you LOVE IT!
Man I want to say you, devin and Bader inspire me so much I love how you guys genuinely love cars build them and try and help people of all mechanical levels to work on their cars and to not be nervous or afraid to try something new I fell in love with Subarus back in 2017 and you guys make me want to buy my first one so much more everytime I see. A video I just wan say man to man I’m proud of you for all your hard work behind the camera and on it thank you it means so much more then you will ever know. I want a 2011 Subaru hatch Sti and one day I will have it. ❤️Noah from the East Coast!
Keep pushing and you'll get there Noah 💪 you'll love the hatch when you finally get it! 😁
You'll get there boss! Been an avid subaru enthusiasts since I first laid eyes on the 04 STi, now I own a 17 WRX. Work hard and you'll bring that 11 STi hatch home for sure. I plan on upgrading eventually to an STi later down the road. I'll get there for sure and so will you 🤘
There is a guy in Australia with an 04 or 05 Sti who put an eg33 in his car STOCK block with sti injectors and big turbo, over 530 AWHP on pump gas, he then pulled the engine to build because at 550 it was lifting the heads. with the built motor he expected a lot more power.
That 2stroke Detroit diesel really puttin in work
The part with it starting only when cold scares me cause when that happened to me I ended up with ringland failure, i know it’s a really capable motor so it hopefully is only the cam and crank sensors, good luck!
Keep trucking mate
Maybe get a cover for the cam angle sensor. It’s actually a common evo problem.
I'm glad she isn't hurt hurt and glad you won't give up on this beautiful thing(even though I'm not a VA fan) both you and her have made leaps and bounds and so much progress. One step at a time hell even go back yo military ways(kiss) it [those that don't know. Keep it simple stupid or stupid simple] that's usually how it works out. Just breath and it will be okay and work for you.
You nutjob. I LOVE it. Both my girlfriend and I had to put this video on the sound system because of how FLOORED we are with how it sounds. I can't wait until its finished!
The sounds that come out of this thing are so intoxicating 🤭🔥
I'm so fuckin proud of you man. This is an amazing machine.
Definitely the hardest street driven STI in all the lands!
Eyyyy appreciate it Ray 💪🤝
Shoot dun diddly! She scoots! Congrats on this huge victory. Can’t wait for more!
Two of my favorite dudes to watch on RUclips in the same dang video! Def Loving this!
😁😁😁😁😁
Probably my favorite video of yours (so far) 🔥. Making great progress. A build of this magnitude is going to take time to sort. Loved seeing the wild WA Boys, you, Josh, Devin. The video felt raw and fresh. Chef's kiss sir 👌
Was good to finally get everyone in one video 🔥💪 super happy with the results. Even with the issues it'll lead to a better car 🥳
Ayyyyy, Devin finally came through the same time as you my dude! That’s sick!
Finally got to kick it with him for a bit 😅🔥
Im so stoked about this build man congrats can wait to see this car hit quad power numbers
Thank you 🥳 every problem just let's us build it better and better 💪
Bro there is another option. Running 12 injectors. Maintain those injectors as your primary injectors for smooth idle and for d.d. Then get TGV housings to run the new monster injectors for whatever goals that might come up in future. Following keenly. All the best.
A day after I bought my SVX this video came. Love it
How you liking the svx?!
@@Smeedia I absolutely love it. I'll be going through every part of it and completely restoring it over the next two years
We see this alot. On fighter jets. Cold solder or broken wire at pin. Works fine at night when cold but broken in the hot sun.
Good to see both of you in the same video.I have watched both you guys for the last year
Cool to finally have it happen 🔥💪
maybe a better ventilated hood would help keep things cool, keep up the good work your doing great
Scoop delete for a vent? Lol
@smeedia Actually, yes!!
Spicy with plenty of room for more. 👌I can’t believe you got the video up today!
It was a long day 😅😅😅
An old mechanic once said, intermitent electrical issues are usually related to heat or vibration.
Going to make some hest sheilds this week 💪
Holy hell Tanner, great progress. You're determined to beat her into submission, you're almost there! Can't wait to see the what's next!
I refuse to give up on it 😅💪
Oo boy I'm am so excited . I can't wait to see pulls. I can't wait to see what come in the future for other builds so much potential
Thought dyno day was stressful enough but have to run away from a shooting and then the long drive back. The struggle street y’all live on.
I have been waiting for this for so long ❤. Hearing that boost was gorgeous 🔥
Sounded so goooood!
I knew those injectors sounded small. I got the same ones in my STi rn lol. Congrats making some solid numbers though 💪 you're pushing around what I make on pump lol
The saga continues! Never get tired of seeing Blu, congrats on the major progress! Cant wait to see updates!
Thank you Andy 💪 sort it these gremlins and get back to it 🥳
Actually insane dude , not at all what i guessed but still INSANE!!
This car sounds Great Man, These car on E85 sounds like a DAMN SEMI MAN THOSE DOWNSHIFTS TOO!! 🔥 🔥🔥
"You're under arrest for looking too sexy" fucking Josh lmao
Dudes a hoot 🤣
650whp is still pretty respectable tbh.
Sucks that there are more issues but it wouldn't be fun if it was all easy.
It sounds soo sick now that its woken up tho.
For reallllll tip of the ice berg 🥳🔥
i've been waiting for this!!!!!! CONGRATS TANNER!!! made me want to boost my WRX right now. love the content
Eyyyy thank you my friend and appreciate the support 💪 get that boooooost
The blue monster + legendary Subi tunner = 🔥🔥🔥🔥
💪💪💪
Solid numbers on the Dyno, wow thats wild ASF. Finally get to see it in action. Cant wait to see more progress on your STI and WRX.
One day at a time we will keep chipping away at them 💪
The video everyone is been waiting for
💪💪💪
Thinking of this build a lot. But I will go the stroker way. 79mm crankshaft the same way ej22 is stroked. Andy forest had done it and it worked just fine. The key is where you source your crankshaft. Andy's crankshaft was made by Arrow crankshafts they have a long history of making Subaru crankshafts. Other than that I'll copy most of the the things that are on this build. Keep going bro, we are keenly following.
Damn, best sounding STI I've seen so far! Good shit! 🤙🏽
Thank you 💪🙏
How cool to see the my favorite RUclipsrs all together 😂
It was a party over there 😅🔥
The sound is just incredible.
I love it 🔥
My 3 favorite RUclipsrs in 1 video lol
Congrats man!! Can't wait to see the Blubaru with some larger injectors!😎
Sameeee, good power for now but I want more!
@@Smeedia Can neva go wrong with moooore poowwwaaa!!
Bro you have the most amazing subie build in United States
Eyyyy, thank you 🙏🙏🙏
I put a throttle pedal sapcer (Versus) on my '22 WRX. I had to recalibrate/adjust it using my scan tool to the exact maximums on the sensors d/t the pedal going past the 100% mark that was programmed from the factor. So I took the spacer off, for now, even though I calibrated the pedal because it brought the pedal too similar to the brake making risk for pedal error.
Yo! Here’s my thoughts on if it’s heat...
Hey, on the Cam/crank position sensor issue... if it cranks and runs when cold the Looses signal when it gets hot, check resistance through the wires on the sensors in the different temp conditions.. the heat soak you talk about brings more resistance to one of the sensors.. and if I remember correctly.. the resistance from the heat will cause it to allow less voltage through the wire.
Thus, greater resistance when hot and less voltage.. causing it to loose one of those sensor communications.
Will try this and appreciate the insight 🤝 going to hest sleeve the harness as well to try and mitigate these issues
Congratulations. I can't wait for you to get the car back up running.
Car is solid man don't worry about it. Like you said 'its a long-term car' and high HP too and that includes a lot of trial and error. I know you'll make it work.💯💯Now let's see those big injectors and bigger regulator man.
one step closer dude! it has been fun watching your journey. i cant believe how much i have learned on this channel. i used to think i knew a lot about subaru's until i started watching your videos and realized i didnt know shit about subaru's lol
There's always more snd more to learn 😅🔥
Labor of love and good God the hurdles but we do crazy things for those that we love. I love the car and you for doing this man. and the video ends with a promise for more content! The gift that keeps giving.
It's the never ending saga of the STi that won't stop giving 😅😅😅
God damned! Best upload for the year dude!!!
Yesssssir 🥳🥳🥳
Have to ask why you want to go stroker eventually? That will increase low end torque which will increase wear on bearings. It will also create more piston deflection due to the new rod ratio which will lower your usable rpm range and increase wear on the cyl wall. Take a look at how Porsche designs their engines; larger bore, shorter stroke. This gives a better rod ratio. This is also why the EJ20 is a smoother running engine than the 25 variants allowing them to rev higher. You want a big turbo, you should build for the rpm range that turbo will work within which your current setup does at 7700rpm. Though even that may be a little low for a larger turbo.
I cannot wait. So pumped
💪💪💪
Can’t wait till we get to see some races
Hey man!!! That is AMAZING!!! Congrats! I hope to see it again in person on the next meet.
Yes I’ve been waiting my entire life for this moment
💪💪💪💪
Good build, sir! I appreciate your videos. 🤘
Eyyyy, thank you 💪🤝
I dont know if anyone has mentioned it but you should look into getting spacers for the cam position sensor. it may be reading from the wrong distance, whether its too close or too far away. Cheers man and we are all so excited to see her running and making legit power! You're insanely inspirational and make us smile.
One step at a time we will get there 💪 everything is a learning experience with this thing
Man I have been waiting for this for sooooo long and soooo glad it’s finally here, congrats on this for real. I knew you would wait and be patient and this would happen for you now let’s see what blueee does
So close. 700hp. You got this
One step at a time we getting closer and closer 💪🔥
Congrats man. Sorry you keep running into problems but that's expected when your the first to put an eg33 into the va chasis. Paving the way man! 🥂
Each issue is a solution that will continue to make the car better and better, I welcome the problems 💪
awesome to see the progress and working through the issues. it sounds amazing. love seeing you working with Bader as well.
Always a fun day when we get to bug Josh 😅🔥
Sounds so f'n good on that 🌽
Can't wait for the next one! One thing at a time man. You got this.
One step at a time my friend 💪🔥
You know if subaru watched this and threw this engine in as a last edition sti, thing would sell like hotcakes. Such a killer build man!
Subaru doesn't have the testicular fortitude
@@Smeedia thats what I was thinking lol so much props though, the sound is addicting
Progress! Happy for you sir!
