Alright you convinced me 😄 I have to say, in my 16 STI I detest my head unit. So I think that will be the next thing I upgrade. Currently daily mine and I love music when I'm driving. This would definitely make it more enjoyable. Thank you 😊
Totally worth it... massive improvement over stock speakers, I kid you not. I might not even replace my stock speakers at this point, that's how much better the experience is.
Had mine for almost a year in my SH foz. Its been such a good unit so far. Never lags ever feels as good as using a smart phone. Motorola sell a product called the motorola A1 which will give you wireless android auto if you just plug it into that usb slot. Albeit i think they are still a bit hard to get your hands on cos last time i checked they were sold out.
Been looking at these for awhile, beats the hell out of the convoluted setup you need for a pioneer these days, *especially* if you have the Harmon Kardon package in an '18 or older VA chassis
I didn't buy the exact one in the vid though very similar (may even be the same under a different name) but it was simple for sure, straight plug and play. The hardest part TBH was removing the old unit, which really wasn't hard other than the two incredibly awkward bolts that hold it in.
I have the Dasaita headunit unit. Idoing didn't have the split screen for AA wireless at the time. I sent idoing pics of the software asking if they had it and they didn't about 3 months ago. I'm glad they have it now. I'm considering switching to idoing now.
Back when I had my STI, this was one of the first upgrades I did. Just beware, about 3 months in, I noticed my back up camera stopped working. About a week after that, the entire screen went black. Contacted the company and they wanted me to pay for shipping which was almost the price of the head unit ( out of country )
Mine also went black one day but I just unplugged my battery and replugged and it turned back on. I totally forgot about the reset button tho. That might work also.
@@juliomiranda6801 I had tried the reset button multiple times, the touch buttons were all still illuminated red. Nothing worked though almost like the screen had burned up or something. Ended up just switching back to stock head unit because it was over 200$ to ship back. I got rid of the car shortly after though.
Same here with sipping... i paid 50$ for shipping back to them and got a brand new head unit and it still doesnt work like my first one and it sucks... don't buy these head units go buy a brand like pioneer and kenwood and also look at all the other youtubers where you can literally see them hiding all the issues with those hu's...
I pulled the trigger on idoing and never looked back. By far the best bang for your buck. I paired it with focal speakers throughout and a titan 10" sub...all powered by an 1100 watt amp...she thumps 😎
Does it come with a the rcas to run a sub? Or do you have to buy it separately? I already have 2 10” jl subs and an amp just been looking into this headunit for a while trying to decide what to go for lol tia
Ordered it!! by mistake....but it is on the way. Also have an OBD splitter and a Bluetooth sender to pull gauges on my phone. The Idoing lets you display them on the screen so super excited about that!
One more comment. The unit is meant to deliver tomorrow!!! That is quick. Thank you wrxdaily.com for the fast turnaround. I am just outside Memphis, TN. WOW, did not expect to have this in 2 days. Thank you.
Looks pretty awesome man!! I've actually torn all of that apart before to add a little amplifier to power my new JBL door speakers I added because the stock head unit doesn't have one built in and stock speakers aren't the greatest tbh, so I know it's a lot of little screws and bolts 😆. I love the new head unit. I guess I just wish that they would have found a way to make it completely flush with the rest of the dash instead of sticking out a little bit like it does. Other than that I would say looks pretty dope and I would likely try it myself. 😎🤘 I'm assuming this head unit has a built-in amplifier?
I have the Dasaita unit which I believe is very similar, and I can tell you that the built in DSP allows the stock speakers to sound SOOOO insanely better than what the stock unit could provide. If I adjust the bass boost, it legit sounds like I have a small subwoofer tucked away somewhere... I sat on the headunit for a few months cuz I was feeling lazy and didn't think it'd make THAT much of a difference, but it is NIGHT AND DAY. I don't even feel the need to replace the stock speakers in my 2018 anymore. I have the Dasaita PX6 specifically though, not exactly sure how it compares to the one in the vid.
I’ve been back and forth about getting this headunit. You’ve sold me into getting it for my 17’ STi. Thanks for the in-depth installation as well, love your channel’s content.
I have this unit, and it works great. As far as audio quality, it is ok. I wish the bigger brands that have better audio would make head units that were custom fit, with large screens like Idoing.
I did mine without removing anything, used a pivot on my wrench, remove the glove box, and the panel next to the steering wheel, and done... so worth it though, IDOING is BA, and only $348 on ali...
Just got my idoing in 🙏 Used the metra adapter to retain center console usb! I got lucky and didn't have the extra module on my radio! Also my backup cam was integrated into my 28 pin 🙏
Hey man I love your videos they're super informative and great for people just getting into Subarus! I just got my first wrx a couple months ago and I'm dying to upgrade the radio. The wrx has the worst factory audio of any car I've owned surprisingly as it's the best car I've owned since my rx7. Looking at purchasing this idoing head unit but, I want to know the pre-amp output voltage for the front, rear, and Sub outputs. I've looked on their website for the spec sheet but it doesn't have this info. When setting gains for amplifiers it's important to know what this is (most head units range from 2v-5v some cheap units even less). I know I can check this with a multimeter from the rca jacks while the unit is installed and on and I always verify the voltage before setting my gains but I prefer to know these things before I buy a head unit. Audio is always a big part of all my cars and I typically use Kenwood or Pioneer (who always have these specs on their website) but the plug and play ability to retain steering wheel controls without having to purchase additional devices and do extra wiring with the idoing is very appealing. Any chance you know what the preamp output voltage is?
I was so happy you got this, I’m officially getting this head unit after seeing this video, I also saw they have a CF option for it. I also found a plasma blue pearl STi I’m looking to get or a Java black blobeye for 28k but it has 100k on the odometer. The plasma one is 23
@@_SomeRandum they have one in Georgia. I’m looking at, I’m talking to the salesman about it. If I truly get it. It’s the first car I ever bought sight unseen in person, or I may fly down to look at it. Only thing about that is idk how I would get it cause I wouldn’t have NYS plates to drive it back
@@ThatwhiteSTI Give your local DMV/RMV a call, and they'll be able to tell you how that would work out. There might be temp plates they'll allow you to use until you get back, that the dealer could print, or something like that. The dealership should also be able to contact them if you do decide to purchase it. Just make sure to get the history on it, which I'm sure you are, so I say that as a formality. I'm not sure how NYS works, but my state allows for 7 days before first inspection, and can be registered and insured before that, also allowing the car to be driven in that timeframe. There were a few PBP STi sedans I looked at with 50k or less, but the dealerships were reverting them back to stock, without much history or the COBB access port, so I passed on them, personally and unfortunately. Most seemed to be "stage 2", but without receipts for the work and servicing, it's a big gamble for anything over $20k, IMO, unless you've got a couple grand saved up for that "just in case". Not trying to dissuade you, but for the investment of time, travel, and money, wouldn't want to hear that you went there, got it, and got bit by it.
The RUclips video play back via hotspot or WiFi is actually pretty good. The SIM card data part only works with T-Mobile. Wish I could share pictures and sound with you smeedia
I grabbed and installed pretty much the same one last year, but it’s made by Seicane. It is so much better than the stock unit.. I wish Subaru just did it right the first time so I didn’t have the drop over $400 on it! 10/10 would do it again tho!
I just got myself a 2020 WRX an upgrade from my 2008 and never new about the crappy head unit issues! I tried to check into the link you posted in the description but it seems it has become a dead link! Do you have an updated link for these idoing head units??? Since I still have powertrain warranty for 2 years I need something to work on with the car or I am going to lose my mind :-D... Love the videos keep it up it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have an idling like headunit, gps antenna i just peeled the double sides tape and put it on top of the head unit. It does not need like of sight just needs to be near the cowl so it can get signal thru the windshield. I belive stock gps is behind instrument cluster under the dash panel. It works flawlessly just stuck to the top of the headunit
I ran it behind the glove box and out the panel on the passenger side the wedged it in the right hand corner of my windshield. Barely even noticeable and signal is perfect.
NIce Tanner! I got the same unit for my 05 Sti last week. It looks amazing! The carplay and android auto should be wireless also, just have to connect bluetooth and select the car link app on the unit.
Awesome video! I also have the Harmon Kardon system. I'm looking to buy used off someone who has a base model. Do you know if it would work with the Harmon system? Or do I need to buy a specific unit made for Harmon Kardon systems? Cheers
Thanks for the video, I have been looking for a replacement multimedia center for my subie. Once I am out of the rentals(for work) and back to daily driving it I'll probably be installing this unit asap. Looks very clean and cost less than the Sony I have been looking at.
great video! i've got a 2020 sti base, and coincidentally i actually watched Boost and Shutter's video on the headunit upgrade that he did before watching this lol, and with the headunit he used he had to purchase separate programmable control boxes to retain all the multi-media controls for the steering wheel and some other stuff i think. my question i guess, and maybe to clear some stuff up for other people too for some things you forgot to address in the video is: - How are the EQ settings, and how easy are they to use compared to some other head units? - What goes into hooking up 3rd party amps and subwoofers to it, and what settings in the headunit do you have to be able to control that? - What multimedia functions do you retain/lose? - Just for clarity, is it only wired auto/carplay, not wireless? - What about factory/aftermarket backup cameras / trigger wires? - any other cool functions / features of the headunit that 100% make it worth it? (i.e. lap timer, 0-60 times, etc, stuff B&S covered in his video) thanks! keep up the good work, loving the build and the content so far
EQ has a ton of adjustability and easy to navigate and adjust For 3rd party subs and what not they have everything labeled on the wiring ao it's all PnP for the most part. Kept all my functions in the car, steering wheel controls etc Wired carplay/android auto My factory back up camera plugged right in and worked without any issues, there is another RCA input for a second camera if you wanted one.
@@Smeedia thanks for the reply! so no wireless android auto / carplay at all? i heard some people talking about getting a voltage regulator so they didnt fry their stock backup camera, is that relevant? as far as functions go, i seen they had a page where you re-programmed all your multimedia buttons, but do all the cruise control buttons still work, and is there any cutouts or intermittency issues/delay? i also seen on their website all the different stuff you can buy for it. do you recommend any of the addons? (i.e. dash cam, obd tool for gauges (and do you know what all gauges you can actually have? and if i DID want to use it for example, do you have any OBD Connector "splitters" so you can use more than one OBD item at a time? like Accessport AND their obd tool at the same time?)) thanks man!
It’s true what you’re hearing about idoing. My unit started to flicker after a few months, the backup camera never worked and the carplay gps would be all over the place. I ended up returning it with shipping out my pocket. Now aliexpress won’t refund my money. I wish i went with a trusted branded from the start.
Don't have time to watch the whole video yet so I'm not sure if the answers are in there but I have a couple of questions. 1) Does it have an EQ with subwoofer tuning options? 2) Does the rearview camera work?
I have had 3 STis total (and they are my 3 most recent cars, before that it was random like nissan, honda, toyota). All 3 of them used the iDoing headunit. As much as I love them, all 3 were having the same issues so IDK if i am just super unlucky or i did something wrong installing in all 3 vehicles. In 2 of them, i even used the other connectors because i had an external amp and ran speakers to the amp and everything. In my current STi i just have the upgraded subaru speakers and subaru sub, so super easy and not extra wires needed. The only issues i have is sometimes the headunit will not connect to my phone through USB. I have an iphone so apple car play. I have tired to use both USB cables, (the 2 cable and 1 cable), and i always use apple cords. When it wont connect i need to force reboot the unit for it to connect again. Not a big deal, its very rare that it happens and it only takes about 30 seconds to full reboot, restart and connect. And the other issue i have had (with all 3 of them), is when i am listening to music, it will sometimes randomly stop and just reboot. Almost like when a computer overheats, and freezes for about 3 seconds, then reboots. When that happens, 90% of the time EVERYTHING resets with my headuint. I loose phone settings, EQ settings, menu settings, icon locations... its like its back to out of the box. That one is a very rare occasion. Other than that, i love this headunit. Its super clean, fits perfectly, almost like it was made just for the STi. Overall, because of the issues i have had and still continue to have, i give this a 8/10 which is still higher than any other aftermarket unit i have owned for previous cars or helped friends install in other cars.
I have a similar head unit (mine is made by Greenlee) in my '15 WRX and I love the fit and function. Only problem I have is the Bluetooth completely failed after a few months and reloading software and replacing the main board didn't help. If the iDoing brand unit is any better I might try it out.
So..u definitely do not have to take the center console out...10mm socket with an extension and a flashlight and u can easily access those bolts but u have to get on ur knees and kinda get under the steering wheel and take the airbag trim piece and let it sit to the side without disconnecting the actual air bag and the glove box side u dnt have to take all that out like u did..even with those wires there u should've been able to get to the bolt with an extension aMd flashlight..u do have to take the glove out but only the actual tray component that holds all the stuff in the glove box..the screws and stuff that hold the surrounding trim could've been left there but taking all that extra stuff out does free up some space
Thanks for this video! I've been wanting to order one of these for a while now, so your video sealed the deal! Also thanks for the discount code! Got it for a much better deal than aliexpress, and free shipping! Win win! :)
Yoooo I have the Harmon kardon sounds system and I hate it bc it rattles too much and idk what it is 😭but I’ve been wanting to swap the head unit. Thanks for the upload 🥲❤️
I run android head units in every car I have, I use the Hotspot from my phone so I always have wifi. With you using a Samsung you can create a rule "when Bluetooth pairs turn on Hotspot" then a separate one where "when Bluetooth disconnects turn off wifi" also if you want the GPS antenna it doesn't have to have line of sight it just need to not be under metal, mine is under the flat plastic between the vents and the mfd
My guy you did so much extra work than needed lol. To get to the lower 10mm bolt you remove the glove box tray and the leg curtain air bag on the driver side to access the bolts. You don't need to remove the center console or glove box surround unless you want to.
@@Smeedia I wanted to reach through my monitor and help so badly lol. I installed a Seicane radio basically the same as Idoing and mine was a struggle fest with getting the back up camera and front speakers working.
Looking into getting an Idoing but I see several different options for them. Which model do you suggest? I have a 2012 if that has any bearing? I like the option to set up gauges on them so will most likely get the OBD2 adaptor. I know you have put idoing units in at least a couple of your Subaru's and wondering what things to look out for or if you would have gotten a better idoing unit for more ram or some other newer function. They seem to run from $100-550 in price on amazon..... I hate saying oh I wish I would have bought....... instead.
The usb attachment so you can use the center console USB ports doesn’t work (or at least didn’t work with me) with CarPlay/Android Auto but does still work for loading USB music/video files and charging.
Unless the STI's are different from the WRX. You should just open the glove box and get that side screw and on the other side right underneath the steering column
That hardware looks exactly like the Seicane stereo I have. Maybe I'll IG some pictures. Not a month in, it stopped talking to my steering wheel. Few weeks later, the touch screen became unresponsive. I still have it because Amazon music/ Prime Video. But I gotta be slow and deliberate pressing buttons.
Won't lie I've definitely heard some iffy things about i-doing head unit. My 19 wrx has Android auto and Apple car play so I don't really need the upgrade and the hassle of the swap.
@@Smeedia well I'm jelly because i wish I had an eg33 STI so that makes us even lol. Idk why subaru waited till 2019 to make apple car play and Android auto standard but I also noticed the boost gouges and the other screens you can scroll through are a bit different looking also. Seems like 2019+ got a refresh.
This video just read my mind. I've been considering getting a new headunit for my '13 FRS. Do you still recommend the Sony unit that you installed on your old brz?
I would not recommend Sony car audio at all to be honest. Unless something's seriously changed in the past few years, they are well below the quality of the rest of Sony's product lines. I'm a Pioneer & Alpine fanboy.
@@Smeedia Pioneer for head units, Alpine for speakers/amps. There's nothing wrong with Alpine head units, I just don't like the aesthetic in comparison. I've owned several h/u of both. All my amps/sub/speakers are Alpine, I'd never consider Pioneer for those. From my experience selling car audio for many many years, Sony just ain't it. There's technically nothing inherently wrong with them, but your money's better spent elsewhere.
My OE unit is glitching out making my AC turn on and off on its own along with randomly cranking up the volume to max. It has ghost prints all over it. I’ve been searching for a replacement. Ty for this.

Motorola sell a product called the motorola A1 which will give you wireless android auto if you just plug it into that usb slot. Albeit i think they are still a bit hard to get your hands on cos last time i checked they were sold out.
Ohhhhh glad to hear it's still going strong! I guess these newer units have wireless car play and android auto now 🧐
@@Smeedia ohhh yours got wireless? That's cool. Mine has wireless carplay but not Android auto wireless.
Been looking at these for awhile, beats the hell out of the convoluted setup you need for a pioneer these days, *especially* if you have the Harmon Kardon package in an '18 or older VA chassis
Pretty good bang for the buck on one of these 🔥
I didn't buy the exact one in the vid though very similar (may even be the same under a different name) but it was simple for sure, straight plug and play. The hardest part TBH was removing the old unit, which really wasn't hard other than the two incredibly awkward bolts that hold it in.
The Dasaita headunit is similar and is also a great option. I have it in my 2019 WRX
Haven't heard of that one, will have to take a look 🥳
I have the Dasaita headunit unit. Idoing didn't have the split screen for AA wireless at the time. I sent idoing pics of the software asking if they had it and they didn't about 3 months ago. I'm glad they have it now. I'm considering switching to idoing now.
Also with the adapter piece to use your USB in the arm rest it also connects the cigarette lighter and you can fast charge your phone that way.
Ohhhhh I do like the fast charging so may make that happen 😅
You made that removal much more difficult than it needed to be. You don’t have to remove the centre console at all 🤣
I've got all my standalone wires back there so for me I needed to 😅
Back when I had my STI, this was one of the first upgrades I did.
Just beware, about 3 months in, I noticed my back up camera stopped working. About a week after that, the entire screen went black. Contacted the company and they wanted me to pay for shipping which was almost the price of the head unit ( out of country )
Will keep an eye on that! Appreciate the foresight!
Holy fuck …
Great video! Ty, wasn’t thinking about changing the head unit for mine but now I really want too
Worth itttt 🥳🥳🥳
I just put the Idoing headunit in with the wireless CarPlay. Everything works phenomenal other than the CarPlay. It stays at connecting or verifying
Odd, gping to trybit with an iPhone later today
@@Smeediadoes it work with an i phone??? i have an iphone and don’t know if it would work since it is an android system
I pulled the trigger on idoing and never looked back. By far the best bang for your buck. I paired it with focal speakers throughout and a titan 10" sub...all powered by an 1100 watt amp...she thumps 😎
Ohhhhh bet it sounds nice 🔥🥵
@@Smeedia it really does 🥵🥵 people know when I'm close, that's all I'll say 🤣
Does it come with a the rcas to run a sub? Or do you have to buy it separately? I already have 2 10” jl subs and an amp just been looking into this headunit for a while trying to decide what to go for lol tia
@@anthonyramirezz5929 it has the rca inputs you'll just need the output cables 💪
Ordered it!! by mistake....but it is on the way. Also have an OBD
splitter and a Bluetooth sender to pull gauges on my phone. The Idoing lets you display them on the screen so super excited about that!
Ohhhhh that is going to be cool to see! Just connects via bluetooth?
@@Smeedia Yes, Here is a link to the video...ruclips.net/video/rGK4at2MvV0/видео.html
One more comment. The unit is meant to deliver tomorrow!!! That is quick. Thank you wrxdaily.com for the fast turnaround. I am just outside Memphis, TN. WOW, did not expect to have this in 2 days. Thank you.
Just put one in my Forester XT last week! Happy with it so far!
Glad to hear 🥳🥳🥳
Looks pretty awesome man!! I've actually torn all of that apart before to add a little amplifier to power my new JBL door speakers I added because the stock head unit doesn't have one built in and stock speakers aren't the greatest tbh, so I know it's a lot of little screws and bolts 😆. I love the new head unit. I guess I just wish that they would have found a way to make it completely flush with the rest of the dash instead of sticking out a little bit like it does. Other than that I would say looks pretty dope and I would likely try it myself. 😎🤘
I'm assuming this head unit has a built-in amplifier?
I do belive it has one built in, and for having such a large display the overall foot petint of how far it sticks out isn't too bad 🥳
I agree. If it was flush like OEM then it’d be an 11/10.
I was hoping for this when I saw all the instagram stories
Yasssss 🥳🥳🥳
Bro amazing step by step. Keep up the great work!
Thank you 🥳🥳🥳
You're very kind re Subaru Starlink. I love my FA20 WRX. Starlink was hot garbage requiring a change out within the first year of ownership.
Lmao I haven't had too many issues with kine but it did suck 😅😅😅
Aye that is what I have. idoing is such a good head unit. Quick and Apple CarPlay. For the price it’s amazing!
Big facts!
Go into your audio settings. There’s a lot there to turn on and tune.
I had to play with the audio settings a little but afterwards it was spot on🔥
Love seeing you do some interior quality of life electric stuff!
Have to try and make the DD experience of the car a little better 😅
I did mine without removing anything, used a pivot on my wrench, remove the glove box, and the panel next to the steering wheel, and done... so worth it though, IDOING is BA, and only $348 on ali...
Ali isn't bad but depends on what MOQ is and shipping costs lol
Just got my idoing in 🙏 Used the metra adapter to retain center console usb! I got lucky and didn't have the extra module on my radio! Also my backup cam was integrated into my 28 pin 🙏
I totally have no use for this, as I have a 2013 WRX, but it was fascinating to watch. Thanks!
Nice! I wish they had these back when I had my '15 Launch Edition.
The plasma one is 23
GET THE PLASAMA!!!!
@@Smeedia I’m trying to find a way. Is the lapis blue and blue plasma basically the same color or are they different?
@@ThatwhiteSTI They are two different colors. I have a '14 Plasma Blue Pearl HB WRX, and must second Smeedia; get the Plasma Blue Pearl STi!
Yo. I've had mine for almost a year now and trust me you gonna love it. The bigger screen really helps and it does like everything.
It looks way way better 🔥
The RUclips video play back via hotspot or WiFi is actually pretty good. The SIM card data part only works with T-Mobile. Wish I could share pictures and sound with you smeedia
I grabbed and installed pretty much the same one last year, but it’s made by Seicane. It is so much better than the stock unit.. I wish Subaru just did it right the first time so I didn’t have the drop over $400 on it! 10/10 would do it again tho!
Got the same thing. My vol and track skip on steering wheel stopped working within a month. Also touch screen lags on response.
If subaru would have just given the stock head unit Android auto or Apple car play I wouldent have swapped it 😅
I used the dyna performance carbon fiber head replacement same unit different look. Keep the fire burning T👍🏼!
Ohhhhh bet it looks spicey 🔥
Good to know! Figured the antenna would have issued with signal if buried under everything like older ones did 😅
Thank you for the bolt size on the head unit been trying to find the size for months.
Anytime!
NIce Tanner! I got the same unit for my 05 Sti last week. It looks amazing! The carplay and android auto should be wireless also, just have to connect bluetooth and select the car link app on the unit.
Phhhh about to go try that!!!
Finally ordered one for my 07 wrx I can't wait
Awesome video! I also have the Harmon Kardon system. I'm looking to buy used off someone who has a base model. Do you know if it would work with the Harmon system? Or do I need to buy a specific unit made for Harmon Kardon systems? Cheers
how did you get that suede dash? I have a regular 2017 wrx so let me know if i can do that on my type of wrx 16:15
Thanks for the video, I have been looking for a replacement multimedia center for my subie. Once I am out of the rentals(for work) and back to daily driving it I'll probably be installing this unit asap. Looks very clean and cost less than the Sony I have been looking at.
That was one of the big things I lived was that this one is affordable and fits so well 🔥
great video! i've got a 2020 sti base, and coincidentally i actually watched Boost and Shutter's video on the headunit upgrade that he did before watching this lol, and with the headunit he used he had to purchase separate programmable control boxes to retain all the multi-media controls for the steering wheel and some other stuff i think.
my question i guess, and maybe to clear some stuff up for other people too for some things you forgot to address in the video is:
- How are the EQ settings, and how easy are they to use compared to some other head units?
- What goes into hooking up 3rd party amps and subwoofers to it, and what settings in the headunit do you have to be able to control that?
- What multimedia functions do you retain/lose?
- Just for clarity, is it only wired auto/carplay, not wireless?
- What about factory/aftermarket backup cameras / trigger wires?
- any other cool functions / features of the headunit that 100% make it worth it? (i.e. lap timer, 0-60 times, etc, stuff B&S covered in his video)
thanks! keep up the good work, loving the build and the content so far
It has Google play stores. So Android apps in the market for car things can be installed for additional features.
EQ has a ton of adjustability and easy to navigate and adjust
For 3rd party subs and what not they have everything labeled on the wiring ao it's all PnP for the most part.
Kept all my functions in the car, steering wheel controls etc
Wired carplay/android auto
My factory back up camera plugged right in and worked without any issues, there is another RCA input for a second camera if you wanted one.
(i.e. dash cam, obd tool for gauges (and do you know what all gauges you can actually have? and if i DID want to use it for example, do you have any OBD Connector "splitters" so you can use more than one OBD item at a time? like Accessport AND their obd tool at the same time?))
thanks man!
Does the head unit utilize the stock built-in microphone? Or do you have to use the microphone it comes with?
I've been so busy. Now more videos. Yess
🥳🥳🥳
Install that GPS antenna. Carplay and android auto uses both phone and head unit GPS or it could go haywire. Happened to me
Next time I'm I there I'll toss it in 🔥
It’s true what you’re hearing about idoing. My unit started to flicker after a few months, the backup camera never worked and the carplay gps would be all over the place. I ended up returning it with shipping out my pocket. Now aliexpress won’t refund my money. I wish i went with a trusted branded from the start.
Interesting, maybe I got a more updated unit or changes were made because everything was PnP and works like OEM 🧐
@@Smeedia the seller confirmed that flickering was fixed with a new revision. I'm going to give it another try. Hopefully it works out this time!
I'm so glad i got a 2014 wrx. Lol. Its wicked easy to install the iDoing headunit. No joke...takes 5 mins.
They're much easier 😅🔥
Glad I'm not the only one who sets a tool down and it disappears from existence for a while lol
I literally do it everyday 😅😅😅
Will keep updates with mine as time goes on!
If only they made something for my old 2006 WRX girl! Very cool upgrade for the newer Subies for sure!
I'm pretty sure they do 👀🔥
I’ve had my idoing for over a year and love it. The sound quality improved drastically from the crappy stock headunit.
Glad to hear that it's still good! 🥳🥳🥳
Mines approaching a year now too no issues so far

Yoooo I have the Harmon kardon sounds system and I hate it bc it rattles too much and idk what it is 😭but I’ve been wanting to swap the head unit. Thanks for the upload 🥲❤️
Where is the rattle coming from? 👀
Ohhhh about to set mine up this way then 🔥
Decision made! I just got a 2017 WRX and wanted a new head unit. Thanks!
Congrats on the car 🥳🥳🥳
My guy you did so much extra work than needed lol. To get to the lower 10mm bolt you remove the glove box tray and the leg curtain air bag on the driver side to access the bolts. You don't need to remove the center console or glove box surround unless you want to.
I had to for mine 😅 my standalone wires make life very difficult to get anything back there 🔥
@@Smeedia I wanted to reach through my monitor and help so badly lol. I installed a Seicane radio basically the same as Idoing and mine was a struggle fest with getting the back up camera and front speakers working.
Really? What did you have to do to get them to work?
Looking into getting an Idoing but I see several different options for them. Which model do you suggest? I have a 2012 if that has any bearing? I like the option to set up gauges on them so will most likely get the OBD2 adaptor. I know you have put idoing units in at least a couple of your Subaru's and wondering what things to look out for or if you would have gotten a better idoing unit for more ram or some other newer function. They seem to run from $100-550 in price on amazon..... I hate saying oh I wish I would have bought....... instead.
The “don’t know why they sent that” piece is for different Subaru models MFD
Ahhhhh that makes sense 😅
A good video. 👍 Wiring is sooooooo cooool mannnnn.
Wiring sucks butt but I'll do it 😅🔥
The usb attachment so you can use the center console USB ports doesn’t work (or at least didn’t work with me) with CarPlay/Android Auto but does still work for loading USB music/video files and charging.
Ahhhh that is good to know then
Hey the discount code does not work. Interested in purchasing one after watching your video
Unless the STI's are different from the WRX. You should just open the glove box and get that side screw and on the other side right underneath the steering column
For OE Cars you def can, my standalone wiring makes everything a very tight fit back there so I needed as much room as I could get lol
Interesting, haven't heard of thr seicane one until recently 🧐
Rockford fosgate for everything audio, is the best in my opinion.
Had thr R/F in my Golf R and it was suuuuper crisp!
Won't lie I've definitely heard some iffy things about i-doing head unit. My 19 wrx has Android auto and Apple car play so I don't really need the upgrade and the hassle of the swap.
Jelly, I wish mine came with it factory
@@Smeedia well I'm jelly because i wish I had an eg33 STI so that makes us even lol. Idk why subaru waited till 2019 to make apple car play and Android auto standard but I also noticed the boost gouges and the other screens you can scroll through are a bit different looking also. Seems like 2019+ got a refresh.
2018+ got the mfd refresh 🔥
Sweet, I want it all. I have the 2017 STI limited as well, but I’m totally stock. I want to change to this though cause the subi OEM dash is garbage.
Agreeeeed, honeslt makes the interior feel way better 🔥
This video just read my mind. I've been considering getting a new headunit for my '13 FRS. Do you still recommend the Sony unit that you installed on your old brz?
I would not recommend Sony car audio at all to be honest. Unless something's seriously changed in the past few years, they are well below the quality of the rest of Sony's product lines. I'm a Pioneer & Alpine fanboy.
The song I had I never had any issues with and loved it. I personally have never been a fan of pioneer but alpine also makes some good stuff 🔥
There's technically nothing inherently wrong with them, but your money's better spent elsewhere.
since you didnt use the microphone , did your hands free calling work ok? where is the stock microphone located? thanks
My OE unit is glitching out making my AC turn on and off on its own along with randomly cranking up the volume to max. It has ghost prints all over it. I’ve been searching for a replacement. Ty for this.
The 4g and navigation do not need to be line of sight you can put them in your dash…. Mine is zip tied to my crash bar 0 issues.
Good tonknow! Figured the dash, wire harnesses, firewall and windshield would obstruct signal enough to be wonky 🥳
hell yea man,i remember you found out it was a limited and you completely lost your shit because it wasnt listed because of the wire harness
That harness broke my balls 🤣🤣🤣
Head unit was the first thing I had done. It was terrible. Replaced it with a Kenwood Excelon double din.
Been thinking about replacing the garbage infotainment in our 2016 WRX, but all options have been too pricey. This is quite intriguing...
Not bad at all for pricing 🔥
