- There are plenty of old cars seen in backgrounds of Roadkill Garage, and viewers often wonder what the plans are for them. On this Roadkill Extra, David Freiburger spills the details on the hulk of a 1972 Dodge Charger that’s been owned by either him or Steve Dulcich for a decade.

That Charger is nice, no dents, rust free, original body panels. Sweet!!👌👍
Sad to see that Charger just wasting away, when there are guys that would love to own that car, and bring it back to be a bitchin ride.
I had one in high school! Came out of the bottom of a barn... whole frame was basically Swiss cheese. I didn’t know any better when I was in high school and I was in love with the car. By the time I got done with disassembly, I realized it wasn’t a good idea to put any money into it so I sold it for basically the value of the hideaways and the ralley tails... good memories.
Dulcich needs to post a site where he can post all cars he's willing to sell lol
That's so heartbreaking. You get that a lot in my area. Some old farmer who has a classic F-100 who'd rather bury it for nothing than sell it for $2000.
TominBach DF has a son with a flat fender Jeep, Dulcich has kids and they went to the first Ziptie Drags with him. Even still, it's his/your stuff that you paid for. Nobody is entitled to it because they don't like what you're doing (or not doing) with it.
Dburger62 It's totally their right to do what they want but it still is a little sad. I guess I'm being a bit of a hypocrite here because I have a gokart I promised I'd build and a Cordoba someone owes me that I'd said I'd try to bring back to life, and theres a subaru GL wagon my father has that I think I've talked him into gutting and letting me weld the diff on and hooning the shit out of, If I ever get around to it and all that nonsense is just sitting...
lol, yes yes, no one's entitled to it.
Just ignore the flat deck pulling into your yard lmao
Guys like him are the reason it’s impossible to find classic cars at good prices. People sit on them. Never doing anything with them. Then economics of supply and demand take over.
We had a '71 when I was a kid. Dad bought it new and they kept it till just before I turned 16 and sold it and I've wanted one ever since.
Man, thats too bad. I love old mopars and wish I had the money to get one. Those Chargers are sweet cars when cleaned up.
Lucky U guys ain't in Australia. Just looking on a site here and there is a fucked out 68 charger 318 auto just runs has rust and its AUD $45,900 ..... That's USD $35,611.51
James Simpson nope didn’t pay that much for my G code but I have been throwing parts at it in the last couple of years
EB15 I thought they made about the same amount of 2 gen Charger as 3 gens 90k~ for 69s and 80k~ for 72~ but in the past you’re right the 68-9 are more desirable but 1 gens are the odd ducklings and the 70 and up are seen as lesser
David the encyclopedia at it again
PPK418 scripted
You are easily impressed.
No,he is THAT GOOD.
ddd228/Dave in Seattle. Except he doesn't know the right side marker lights for a 71 charger
He didn't even get the shape of the side marker light right, shoes how much you guys know.
had i kept my 73 roadrunner, i'd have probably done the GT car thing like that speed shop that was mentioned. i like the idea of old good-looking sheet metal draped over a super high performance chassis and modern engine
He won't work on it because the doors won't open? Get in it Duke Style!
When you have the back of a 150 year old man, that isn't as easy as it sounds.
Michael Lorah touche
Cars, Guitars, ETC. I remember Finnegan saying that about Freiburger in an earlier episode of Roadkill. I believe it was the Blasphemi episode.
Dude if those cars were sat like that in the UK you would be using a metal detector to find what's left of them 😊
what do you mean?
RUST. Cars in UK stored outside, with damaged paint and stuff would rust away beyond hope in just a few years. Even in Poland, where we have better weather some 80's cars that some guy nearby collected and neglected somewhere in the 90's are already collapsing under their own weight...
Oh yeah, when I watched the 5.0MG on HRG I was thinking about those castleated sections on the inner sills....
it is the same way here in the north east USA
Yep...my 2014 is already rusting...
I grew up on 800 acre ranch, we had a boneyard my 72 SE big block charger, 2 of my 63 Plymouth, a 55 chevy, 69 nova ,1927 dodge brothers truck and countless others.
Just received 2 magazines from you guys! Thank you. Greatly appreciate it! Ill stay subscribed you guys freaking rock!
Live this new Motor Trend Profile picture
Nice shout out to Steve Strope. Went to High School with him at OFA.
BUILD THAT CAR!!!!!!!
Love it when you guys get together and Bs. Great show. To quote you Rory, "Silver was money before gold." I'll take your words over JMP proper.
I would listen to Freiburger talk about cars all day. What an encyclopedia
Build it. When new I hated those, but these days I love them! I Met you at Bonneville this year, you know you wanna run!
I love that their focus is on Mopar cars, they also know what's best. Its because its all about Mopar or no car
That's my dream car! Would love to buy that when i find the funds. Hopefully with the manual trans in it. Then maybe you guys would drive it to norway! Haha, imagine that in the snow! Wouldn't mind the ramcharger either.
Love it! Please build this! I still Daily Drive the 1974 charger my great grandmother bought brand new
Do it boys and just make those headlight covers work I don't even care if you use them as headlights I absolutely love this body style make this thing handle and move out and don't forget to use those headlight covers for some innovative theme. Oh yeah, you better go disc brakes all the way around. You guys have the best job in the world don't ever stop telling yourself that out loud.
My 10-year old Son would LOVE that Ramcharger as a project truck for his Lawn Mowing business! He's always wanted something to represent his business that's not "what everyone else has"
WeatheredCross Then he better get a trailer, too... because that vintage of Ramcharger has an integral top.
Yes!!! Build it on roadkill garage!
I love those old race vehicles, I wann own a 1973 Dodge Challenger when I'm older :)
Love it. Reminds me of my '73 Charger 400-4/727. Sold it to the Keselowski's as a bracket racer. True story. Last seen on Ebay.
Cant help but be impressed how much of a old car geek Freiburger is, all I think of when I hear charger is what I now learned is a mk2, black with white interior cruising miami streets, thats because of a tv show I used to watch
Burn Notice
correct
Restoring a old muscle car middle in the dessert. Gotta love it
u could totally just dukes of hazard it and crawl threw the window
Isaac Vipond don't throw the window oh you mean through the window..
or you could call it a "drive-thru"
Too bad it's the ugly new body style. Dukes car is a 68
@CaptainSpauIding same car
The Dukes car is a 69 not a 68
Wish car like that were still in Canada rust is a killer in Canada.
i know how you feel fam
Depends where in Canada you live !
Prairies didnt use road salt until the 80's or so..
Southern British Columbia cars are rust free..
I know,I am half Canadian and American...Went on Summer Holidays to see family as a kid in Canada, still go there for business dealings...Mind you 2 minutes from the U.S border lol..
bud morse anywhere there is a lot of salt on the road in the winter it just roaches cars, I live in new Mexico and you find 70 s vehicles with very minimal rust :)
yeah, same in northeast america
Same in Finland sadly.
I'm of the mentality that, if you let a car like that sit rather than selling it, you are doing a huge disservice to the car world. But maybe that's because I'm from Iowa, and letting a car just sit here is downright abusive.
OldRed91 I just can't understand the "fix it or sell it" mentality. No keyboard warrior (not directed at you, generally speaking) on the internet has any right to tell someone what to do with their stuff. If you want to let YOUR stuff, sit, that is your right. Nobody is entitled to it because they don't like what you're doing (or not doing) with it.
Dburger62 I agree with your point, but in Iowa, letting a car sit often means letting it rot into the ground. There is a point where a valuable piece of history is being deliberately destroyed. I agree there is nothing I can do since it is someone else's property, but it's still sad to witness.
The only good thing about where it sits is that the Charger is in dry, hot weather. It's hell on the interior and plastic parts but easy on the sheet metal.
The problem is people see a car like that sitting and expect you to give it to them. I have a few projects in my yard I'd part with but no one wants to pay fair value for them. They see them sitting and tell me I'm a dick because I won't sell it to them for $500
I'm also in iowa. letting them sit is hell
You guys need to do something with that old Ram Charger!!!
Cool car!
Just build it already
[Monty Python God]: "GET ON WITH IT!!"
I had a 71, LOVE that body!
I just realized there's an episode of Roadkill Extra happening in MY backyard right now!
Richard Petty raced a 1972 Charger starting mid year of 1972 season. Then a 1973 Charger through the end of the 1977 season. Changed to a Dodge Magnum for 1978, which he was unhappy with, causing him to switch to GM during the 1978 season. Thus ending his racing of Mopars. That is what i've found from my research.
who are you aiming your generic google search information at exactly? the average person on here knows a billion times more than the blurp you just threw up.
I love the 3rd gen chargers. My absolute dream would be to own a 73 as a street car
Leaning on field cars will get you a nice surprise.
Would really like to see that brought back to life...
You're one of the only shows that consistently does Mopars. Don't be afraid!
I don't think Mopar builds will ever get old, no matter how many you do.
Earlier 70's Dodge Chargers look and preform excellent!
Allright, lets all cruise over and get the doors open for him so they can build it!
I agree. Those door handles are very easy to work on.
Love the 71 - 74's as well..
Ya I want to buy that car, thats awesome
This makes me miss my green 73 charger so much. 😭😭😭
These cars worth like 200k or more here in Brazil.... it's crazy to see them siting on the dust like that.
Trey kicking the door with your knee while you pull the handle, that's how my 73 Coronet's doors open
I'd still watch an episode of reviving that 72 Charger!
we need more Mopars on the show wtf
I owned a 1974 Dodge Charger SE Brougham Edition. It is yellow with a black top and wing Kragar SS rims. I painted the brake drums Fire Engine Red after wire wheeling them when I was changing the brake shoes. I painted the interior with touch up paint automotive. I had the car looking brand new, inside and out. It had the Opera window slats. 3rd Gen.
I’d love to buy that car!!!!!
I'm probably gonna catch hell for this, but here goes: It always kills me when people would rather see cars sit and rot in their yards than sell them to someone who would get them on the road again. Yes, it's their property and they can do what they want. But how can someone call themselves a car lover when they let these great rides just sit neglected? Cars should be driven, not be collecting dust.
Should just pack up that 72 and deliver it to my house. :)
I would love to have it,I had one in the late 80s same model with the hideaway headlights but it was a broagham se with black vinyl top and gold paint
Nice
Always love the Chargers
you can also tell by the... door... body lines.71-72...the body lines are split (by the side mirror ). 73-74 they run straight across ... in case you weren't aware
"Every mangled mass of steel has a story to tell, a tale of speed, guts, talent, style"
One thing I learned watching the Dukes. Chargers do NOT need functioning doors
Don't forget the 1972 Charger Brougham that has a totally different rear quarter glass than any other Charger. It's the smallest of them all.
IF you are not going to do anything with it sell it! Seems a decent solid car and a good project for someone to do up.
I still want that "red" Ram Charger that is beside it!!!
Make a Richard Petty tribute out of it. hail to the king
Revive that badass RamCharger please!!!
I need that Ramcharger!!!!!
I'm a gm guy but I just got a dodge RV with a bigblock that makes me wish I had something like this sitting around
i will buy it, yeah popped up as suggested Video
Yeah i wiould take ramcharger to tow with
Hey man, you described 71 plymouth B body 3 section side markers. Dodge B bodies were different. Don't matter, I still dig the rust free donors ya'all get out there.
I agree. I have never cared for the opera windows on the 71-74 Chargers. I had a 71 Charger SE with opera windows. They make a blind spot for when you are backing up and I don't like the "shark gill" looks of them. I have had a 73 and 74 hardtops without the windows and the visibility is like night and day. 73-74 are my favorites because of the tail lights and what we called the Nike Swoosh side windows. Keep up the good work!
That ramcharger. I miss mine. 82 ramcharger 2x4 318 v8 3 speed auto. Was my first vehicle
do a show on the ram charger..!! I have an 85.. and I love it
Petty raced the third generation Charger until 1977, since NASCAR allowed you to run an older body style 3 years after its discontinuation. In 1978 he had to switch to the Magnum, and that that thing was such a brick and uncompetitive he ended up switching to GM products (Chevy and Olds) before years end.
yeah,we all watch tv and follow automotive things guy?
I would love to see an episode with that dodge ramcharger
It all began for me in a 1971 dodge charger 383 4 speed dad built I was maby 4 I loved that car cried and refused to talk to him when he traded it for a 4cyl vega wagon.some day when my ship comes in im gonna build that car to a tee like dads and just cruise I lost dad last year to copd and I havent been me sence lost my best friend and father .so yea when the kids are grown up.ill have a charger.love the shows and great job
Man alive! More cars sitting and rotting that I would love to have. Darn it!
I would love to have it I had a 74 in late 80s
I would love to a full resto on that baby.
You would think that the 1968/69 Chargers were the best selling Chargers Dodge built back in the day based on the popularity of them since 1979. But the 1973 was the highest selling model with over 119,000 cars produced. '68 saw 96,100 and '69 saw 89,199. I personally own a '68 and have owned 1 other '68 and 2 '69's but I am told that the suspension refinements on the 3rd Gen Chargers as well as the other B-bodies make them very good drivers. And they are still affordable compared with the 2nd Gen cars!
All 3 of those are worth a hefty penny back East, especially rust free. That charger is a $5k-$10k car all day long, depending on the options and drivetrain. To give you an idea: 20 years ago I found a 73 Charger SE that needed 1/4s, floors and had a 318 that didn’t run. It was $800. Seen a 72 charger on Craigslist a few years ago. It was in pieces, a 360 auto car. $9k.
Nowadays just about everything that is even a little performance oriented (real or perceived) is worth a fortune. You can’t even touch a 3rd gen camaro for less then $5k around here. I bought my 93 Z28 for $1500 13 years ago. I could turn around and sell it today for $5k. My 73 AMX cost me $550 20+ years ago. I could sell it for $8k today, rusty and not running, but complete.
Roadkill should build it and paint it Petty blue!
What car is the red one at 2:46 that is seating on a trailer?
Freiburger, consider a Ramcharger project, pleeeaaase!
73 road runner with a slapstick and a 383 .... but with disk brakes ... oh and a bit of a blower .... and everything as it looked when it rolled out - thats all i want - but with a really good stereo though .....
Ski Slope Charger 66 and 67. That is what we called them when I worked at Plymouth/Dodge in the 80's. From what I understand the were supposed to be one of the 1st production cars with a turbine engine. That is why the have all the round finned emblems and gauge clusters to mimic the Turbine engine that it was going to have. That never happened and it got and normal engine in it.
I would love to buy that. My dad had one when he was a kid. I would love to make a tribute one to him. In memory of him
If I had the money like no tomorrow than I would of brought it and bring it back to life with original interior and lots of performance upgrades as well as safety upgrades. Peace, Flood!
That Charger came off the assembly line the same year I did.
and I'm over here trying to see more of the Ramcharger...
Omg please do the ramcharger it's uncommon I've only seen 4 ramchargers here in Houston. Have you guys ever done an extreme off road mudding truck vehicle? I haven't seen one. Every vehicle is either a Jeep,Jeep or a darn Ford brono. I have a 1990 Dodge Ramcharger just like that one with two tone paint id really love to see you cool guys work on it please!
Had one or those love to have that car.
My dad used to have two around that year. He said that between the two of them there were enough parts to build one, but he sold them instead and hated himself ever since. I'd offer to buy that if I had the money. Shame to see a car like that rot.
Freiburger, nice pick for a vehicle to restore.
Dude, I could totally do something with that car.
I'd like to have it. I had one when I was 17 years old and sold it in 94.
My first car was a 1972 Dodge Charger, 318, column shift. Got it for $650 and drove it home. The owner's dad sold it to me as, I recollect, his son was in the military overseas and wanted it to be gone. Drove that for 10 years to work. Green metallica with green interior. It's what got me into Mopars. I wonder where it is today?
if you were smart,it would be in your driveway
@@trillrifaxegrindor4411 It was more of an emotional attachment as it was my first car. I am perfectly good with my 1973 Road Runner (400/4-speed) and my 1970 Dodge Super Bee (383/727) that are in my garage now.
The 72 Charger SE also had a different 1/4 window than that version..
They had 2 roof line/quarter window options for 72 !
Side marker lights dont turn me off from a 71 to a 72...most people dont notice !
Add a stroker 400 big block, make it look stock with Road Wheels (Magnum 500's) Restore it to a Charger Rallye (former RT).
Sickk
I'd take it. I prefer the 73s with the opera windows cause my father had one built to the hilt 73 se (swapped in 440 6 pack. Around $8k under the hood in 1983) when was I born (1st car I ever rode in). And would love to recreate anther. But in my area muscle cars in general are super expensive. That charger right there would be $5k+ without the driveline or interior around here
