I work at a psychiatric hospital and have seen lots of patients in psychosis. They are not able to premeditate anything, let alone understand what's going on enough to conseal anything that may have resulted from the psychosis. There's definitely something wrong with him, but that isn't it. He does not deserve to get out of prison, and if he does, hes likely to hurt another person.

Fully agree, I am not a professional but I have witnessed people with psychoses. They are very much in their own world and create their own narrative, and their capacity to connect with their actual surroundings is very limited or impossible. And when they get out of it and someone tells them what went on they are sometimes very ashamed or even scared.

But then just conveniently had 2 changes of clothes, gloves, multiple backpacks, and a knife? It was clearly premeditated and his post it note saying “I hate you all” not “I hate her”. I didn't know about "Kindenss for Colleen" before watching the video. I don't know if this counts, but I went shopping today and this lady in front of me miscalculated and couldn't afford all of her food, while she was stressing her son asked her if they could get some ice cream on the way home. To steal and treat yourself to a meal afterwards shows zero remorse. He SA'd her. Thats not a "snap". That's a plan.

But I have PTSD from this tragic event, and as a true crime lover, it can scare me a lot when it pops up. I went to her funeral and vigil. I've seen younger kids drawing sw×stikas on bus windows and yelling slurs like they don't mean anything. We need to stop that and protect our citizens! When we have natural disasters, not one country steps in to help with funding!! Yet we try to protect other countries. It's a bunch of bs when we have so many homeless and hungry. It's not the US, it's that our generosity is misappropriatiated to other countries so that they are safe! We have billions now in hurricane damage and not one other country will help after all the funds we sent to help them. Go figure! How do we defend our schools without funds? We have taken precautions with gates and barriers at schools. You have to have a background check to be a volunteer and of course work there. ID and fingerprints. Metal detectors! The sad thing is that I’m an elementary teacher and the amount of violence we see in young kids today is astonishing. I didn’t witness a lot of this kind of violence when I was in elementary school 20+ years ago.
And sadly, a lot of it comes down to parents not believing us when we raise concerns about behaviors. Or not saying no to their kids at home/disciplining at home.
It’s scary how often teachers get hurt or how often classrooms get destroyed and there are no consequences when they get sent to the office. It’s all about making parents happy and sadly, it does a disservice to the our children- it teaches them that nothing has a consequence and that the behaviors are okay.

It's so true. I'm a retired paraprofessional. I worked in elementary school special education. It was so maddeningly frustrating to me that so little was done when we'd have kids who'd tear up the classroom during one of their "fits". All we could do was evacuate the classroom taking the rest of the class out to the playground while the teacher stayed in the room with the kid. Of course they'd call the office, hope an admin would show up, and wait it out. Eventually parents would be called but other than taking them home there was nothing else we could do.
Once we had a 2nd grader who started having a fit, throwing crayons, pencils, random small things. I was moving around the classroom putting myself between the kids and him so he wouldn't hit anyone with a projectile. Well, guess what? Next thing I know I get a wastepaper basket to the side of my head! He threw the thing right at me. I'd had it with the kid, the teacher not doing ANYTHING to help, and the other aide just standing in the back of the room doing nothing.
I got mad and left the room. Went to the office. Got some ice. Parents were called. Yada yada. And you guessed it. The kid was back at school the next day.
(*Note: he was reported to be a tyrant at home. Ended up being transferred to a school for emotionally disturbed children.)

It's because parents are not raising their kids anymore. They're letting iPads raise their kids and social media. Kids spend way too much time on the internet and start to live in a fantasy world by the things they see online. Most people know that what people post online is not always true, but kids don't know that. It's easier for parents to just hand their kids an iPad or chromebook to just sit there and watch or surf the internet than to raise them, correct them, and spend time with them.

This scares me. My little boy is in 1st grade and I worry about him so much. Parents have too much on their plate and don’t spend enough time with their children to know what’s truly going on. If my child was ever disruptive or misbehaving at school he would have major consequences at home. Period. No excuses. This is the fault of the parents and not getting their children the help or love they deserve at home. I pray that one day this world becomes a more peaceful place. And prayers to you going in and teaching these children every day… you might be some child’s only safe place ❤️

This is why I quit teaching after only 3 years. Constantly being surrounded by violence is just too scary. I tried to get help every single time and barely anything was done because the parents don’t care or are abusive themselves. ☹️ it’s also scary because the ones who were violent to me also showed me the most love when they weren’t acting out.

Thank you for covering this. I lived in Danvers at the time. I was a teacher at a school, and it was the most terrifying thing. My exes little sister was in Colleen’s class and sat by Phillip and it was traumatic for everyone. Although I can’t sit through this video, I hate watching anything about this case, because I lived too much of it. I love seeing her talked about. Her anniversary came up the day you put this out and it reminded me of the vigil we held for her. I still have the pictures of it. So so heartbreaking😔

My mom was out in the yard this morning cleaning things out of storage. She was up since 4am this morning. Instead I ended up making both mom and dad breakfast and lunch since they said they needed to shower and didn't have time to prep food. Thank you for bringing Colleen's story to light. I've actually heard about this case not too long ago, but not in the amount of details you described in some parts. My heart and blessings go out to Colleen's family and loves ones. Please, be sure to spread kindness. You never know when a loved one can just instantly vanish...

She was trying to help him. He was failing her class and he played soccer, which you need a C average or above in order to play… She told him “she understands how difficult his move from Tennessee must be and not having his girlfriend with him” and apparently that’s what triggered him. She was literally trying to help him.

I remember when this happened. I'm originally from MA and even though I wasn't living there when this happened it was huge news within my circle. I actually had a classmate murdered in 1992 and her family are advocates for Colleen's family also. We are all hurting because of the MA law regarding juveniles. It means the life without parole sentence my classmate's murderer received has been changed. Luckily he has been denied parole so far but it is a horrible fear for all of us. I can't imagine how Colleen's family feels. Colleen's family is just amazing with what they are doing in her honor. I love the Kindness for Colleen.

The way he walks from bathroom, to outdoors, back to the bathroom and then around the school seems alarmingly calm. THAT for me is INCREDIBLY disturbing, like if they didnt catch him (which they were always going to) I believe he would have hurt/killed someone else.
