    Really love this video!! I do have 2 questions i wanted to ask. 1) What are the personal projects that I could do to attract employer to hire me as quant developer? 2) for a role as a quant trader, do employer would consider if i did all my quant trading on paper trading account?

      1) Develop a proven quantitative strategy with a Profit/Loss statement. (If out of school); If in school, I'd more so just focus on Leet Code and Probability Theory for the interview process for the quant funds.
      2) I am not sure what style they would prefer since they are aware of retail trading limitations. However, have you checked out the hackathons hosted by some of the quant funds? (i.e Citadel?) That is a perfect in to get an interview only if you place in their competitions. (There stuff is usually related to HFT or other Data science capabilities.)

      I did a lot of research on how to become a Quant. The first rule is to be a graduate from a target school, the second is to be extremely strong in maths and statistics, physics can be accepted. 3) get yourself a master or PhD. Again make sure it is from a target school. That is it.

    It's a great video! Also can i ask what is the difference between quant analyst and quant devoloper and is it same as the role of software engineer in the same hft companies

      Really depends on which company you are looking at -- many firms may use those titles interchangeably. Quant developers/Analyst, in general, are the ones who are assisting/developing creation of many of these trading algorithms. SWE's are usually backend folks but they can also participate in the development of algo's as well, but the dynamics of a company may be different per company.

    what's the difference between programming skillset for Quant Researcher vs Quant Developer?

    • @SpencerPaoHere
      @SpencerPaoHere  11 месяцев назад +4

      Researcher = More Data science/AI focused.
      Dev = More SWE

      So for a Quant Researcher, doing Data Science major/program will add more value in comparison with CS/SoftEng major/program in terms of job readiness..

      @@rickyliuna9376 you can't go wrong with either! Just make sure to have a great understanding of code, statistics, combinatorics, and math.

      @@SpencerPaoHere Thanks for your reply..
      I'm trying to focus on the knowledge that will directly add value to Quant Researcher's skillset.
      CS requires to learn some topics like Cybersecurity, UI/UX, HCI, Networking, Graphics, Software Architecture, etc.. If they don't have direct contribution on QR's skillset, in my personal opinion, learning them will just be a waste of my time.
      I'd rather go straight to Data Science program that will equip me w/ intensive Python programming, Machine Learning , Predictive modelling that more relevant to QR's skillset..
      Anyway,I'd like to thank you for all the insights, appreciate it..

    Is it possible to get into this if you dont get into a target school for undergrad

    • @SpencerPaoHere

      Very rare but doable. You can do a linkedin search to see if there may be anyone that is apart of 'X' firm and see where they went.

  • @hoow_j
    @hoow_j Год назад

    Do you think it is eligible to be a quant researcher with only a master's degree (specifically, in statistics)? I hear many people say that a Ph.D. degree is required.

    • @SpencerPaoHere
      @SpencerPaoHere  Год назад +2

      I’ve seen quants with a bachelors degree. But in general, at least a masters degree is a minimum; masters / phDs seem to be the norm.
      Just got to have a solid coding background (think good enough for FAANG; if not a little better)

    Quant models stop working because competition replicates it. They replicate it in a certain market. Why not just move to another market in another country where that strategy is not prominent?
