    I was already loving the video but the "where I hide my stash" comment laid me out laughing lol.. Instead of new wood this inspires me to use some of those scraps and cut offs from 2x4's now instead of burning them. Great concept for salvaging wood.

  • @srae40

    You are very inspirational, never would have thought of cutting the 2X4 in such thin pieces to get what I needed. Thanks will give me more ideas in other things. Great job

    Loved how the little boxes turned out! Great tips on how to get a 45 deg angle on the little french cleat pieces and using your finger to guide the glue nozzle on thin pieces! I'm so glad Rockler is sponsoring this. They're a great company. I worked there for a decade.

      @@AGlimpseInside There is a good chance I'll be better, or at least more healed, by then. When I had my right carpal tunnel repaired last year, which I highly recommend if anyone is scared to do it, it took about 1 week to get full motion back in my hand, about 4-6 weeks to get decent strength back and about 5 months to be completely back to normal. Well worth it. But after saying all that, I think I was back in the shop around 5 weeks but was very careful in what I did.

    Hi Chris. I'm already inspired by the challenge. Wheels are turning. This is gonna be fun.
    I'm pretty into repurposing so I might actually try to recycle used 8ft 2x4s for my builds. Also, the '1 Day' challenge. Is it a silly question to ask what constitutes one day? Start and finish on the the same day? 24 hrs (collectively)? 8 hrs work day? Just a little clarity for fairness please.
    Finally, can we assume that only one entry per category is allowed? That's kinda where I'm going anyway, but...
    I'm anxious to follow your judges a bit for some ideas plus I'm always up for a good follow.
    Good luck to all the participants and as always, I appreciate all you do.

The strips were nailed to the ends. I cut them custom to a shelf for my wife. Did every shelf with to hold things.

    • @AGlimpseInside

      I’m not sure if Rockler has international stores. So I’m gonna say this is US based only. But the rules are pretty simple just use the time constraints and use one 2 x 4 each anything else like hinges little feet or drawer poles no big deal you can make those or use pre-fabricated ones

  • @scottmorris4914
    @scottmorris4914 2 года назад

    So, this isn’t a question regarding the challenge. You used your laser to cut the drawers pieces, and the holder. Does the burned edges of the wood affect gluing? Does it make the joint weaker? Shout it be lightly sanded at least? Thx.

    • @AGlimpseInside
      @AGlimpseInside  2 года назад +1

      If it does keep the joints a bit weaker I don’t notice it plus again the piece is so small that I’m not all that concerned with it but I think I would’ve maybe flooded the surface let it dry and then glued it again had it been a bigger piece. But yeah I would say it’s probably not as strong as it or nearly would be if it didn’t have that burning affect

    • @AGlimpseInside

      Cutting time was only about 20 or 30 minutes. But designing it in making sure everything lined up. Doing a few test cuts on plywood. Is what took the lion share of the time. I would say from start to finish that entire project took me about six hours

    Well,
    The good news first. Your still in the running for U-Tube dad of the decade.
    Now for the not so good news.
    We (the undersigned) are considering revoking your wood working man card. Your use of the lazer isn't what we would consider a "wood working" tool in a contest such as this. And???? Your table saw doesn't allow you to cut a 8' 2x4???? Come on MAN!
    Man card must be revoked for 3 weeks!
    I know, I know, BUMMER DUDE! :)
    Nice work on the boxes though. Glad to see you use some material besides plywood in a project!

    • @AGlimpseInside
      @AGlimpseInside  2 года назад

      Wasn’t really gonna entertain this but I figured why not. Contest was my idea. Luckily such a great company and such great makers got involved with me. Therefore I make the rules. I need to cut a 25 inch piece and I have too much stuff to the left of the table saw to do so. Only by an inch. I could cut a 36 inch piece no problem. But I was trying to utilize material. I hope this comes across as a Showville back-and-forth. But the deal is from hand tools to industrial machinery everything will be considered. But like I said a hand carved canoe has a great chance of winning Morceau over something like I did with the laser
