Good walk-through of the process, thanks. I spent several hours in the past week upgrading an early 2015 MacBook Air and a mid-2015 MacBook Pro to Sonoma. I relied on the OpenCore Legacy Patcher website and their app, plus several RUclips how-to videos and after several attempts along with trial-and-error, got both working very well with Sonoma. My main goal was to extend security updates by a year or so. Pleased and impressed by the OCLP people's dedication!
Did a clean slate and updated my 2017 MacBook Pro non-touch bar to latest Sonoma..so far so good..seems its a bit. faster than when it was in Ventura. Thanks Anson
Excellently done video. Total Mac noob here, but I successfully updated my new-to-me 2014 Mac mini to Sonoma 14.6.1 by following along with you. The only difference was I chose to keep the apps and I didn’t get the window to do the root patching after the install. My video and wifi was a bit wonky so I just ran the OCLP again, ran the root patch and rebooted and all is well. Thanks!
Not at all! Actually, my MBP has a broken screen, so I have it on clam mode plugged to an external screen, and everything worked with no issues. Took a while, a lot of black screen and reboot, but I just let it do its thing and worked perfectly! @@AnsonAlexander
@@AnsonAlexander hi I already updated os Sonoma in my Mac mini …but after few when I remove the usb drive now it’s stuck on boot and asking for support/apple/com..could pls help me on this ..I try on recovery mode but it’s also showing the same error..
So it's worth noting to anyone who might do this on a Mid 2014 MBP, the 'Keyboard not working' issue on the first login is actually a 'your mac is running insanely slow' issue. I did the PRAM reset, and the first thing i see is a 🚫 Mac startup/support error. If you get this, don't have a heart attack (like i almost did), just switch off and hold Option to select the UEFI boot option you need to select and all is well.
These videos are great Anson. Many thanks. One question. I have a 2014 MacBook Pro with a 128 GB ssd. You said in the video that on installation of the 14.4 update open core seemed to install the whole os. Does it overwrite the previous os or does it keep using more space every time you update? Thanks Anson.
Hi Anson. Is it possible to use your legacy patcher install on a hackintosh? Looks like, if it could, it would make a lot of people happy. Thanks. Lesli

This is great to hear! I have iMac 5K, late 2014, running Big Sur. And MBP running Sonoma. I love using iMac because the superior display...and wish to get the same os for both. I have a huge problem after OCLP and installing Sonoma 14.4. Some apps (like NTFS for Mac (Paragon) are crashing and worst now: App store says: cannot connect. But Internet is working. Update to 14.4.1 is shown, Outlook is working, etc....but the App Store not. I did an update without cleaning the whole disk (too troublesome to re-install everything)

I have 3 partitions. 1 for Ventura; 1 is the boot camp partition with Windows 11 and finally another partition with macOS Mojave (for legacy software). If I upgrade to Sonoma 10.4 using the Open Core Legacy Patcher, do you think it could mess up my Windows 11 BootCamp and my Mojave partition? I only want to upgrade the Ventura OS to Sonoma. If I select that OCLP option it shows blue screen with errors. How can I get ride of that option from boot menu so it will not show during boot up? Do u know how to remove that? Please help!

@@Hunter_Playz11 I just restored it back with Time Machine then downloaded the new open core legacy 1.4.2 and it’s working smoothly
So what’s the real reason to install this on an older MacBook??? The real reason!
What a pain in the a. Hope it’s worth the pain. 🤗
Yeah, having to reinstall the whole OS is a pain. OpenCore will likely be updated at some point to make it easier. Obviously worth it for me but maybe not everyone :P
Hi Anson, thanks for all ur help with upgrading upgrading unsupported macs using OCLP. I’ve successfully upgraded my 27” mid 2011 iMac model 12’2 to sonoma. All seems working fine just little slower on booting and shutting down and shows dock with bit delay. I followed ur help from first video. At first attempt something went wrong with OCLP so restarted the process. One issue if u could please help with, at booting my iMac it shows boot menu for couple of seconds but main drive with sonoma logo pre selected so it load from it. However first time something went wrong and now it shows me OCLP logo with black sd card type logo on front named windows at boot menu next to main drive with sonoma logo. If I select that OCLP option it shows blue screen with errors. How can I get ride of that option from boot menu so it will not show during boot up? Do u know how to remove that? Please help!
I tried and crashed my computer.
Luckily I had a backup and went back to where it was
