    IMPORTANT: After running a normal software update, run Post-Install Root Patch in the OpenCore Legacy Patcher application again. As @SirPalimPalim mentioned, if your Bluetooth isn't working (automatically turning off after turning it on), reset the PRAM/NVRAM by holding Option + Command + P + R on a reboot.

    I followed your guide on an old laptop I had essentially written off (Late 2010 MacBook Air with the 2.13 Core 2 Duo) and I am shocked at how well this computer is running. I upgraded directly from OS X High Sierra without formatting and all of my user account info, files and settings were retained during the update to Sonoma. Pretty impressive that a computer that shipped with Snow Leopard (10.6.8) is still running a current OS 14 years later.

      It's funny how its possible to run latest os on old computers, but apple doesn't support this feature, obviously they want to keep selling the latest computers so they don't develop latest os for older computers. The amount people that must of thought, okay can't upgrade to latest os, i'll buy a new computer.

    Installed Sonoma 14.5 on MacBook Pro Early 2011 13.3 model with a dual-core Intel i5 cpu about a week ago. Overall experience has been pleasant. Newer versions of programs I want to run can now be installed and work fine on Sonoma. Only glitch so far has been Firefox froze often. So, I removed it. Overall, it is noticeably slower loading programs, especially browsers. I have 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD drive. It has given new life to my old MacBook Pro.

    About your question 03:24 I DID do a complete hd clean and have a touchbar mac (T1 chip A1707). I thought everything was fine but then once logged in I couldn't change any preferences or login with my AppleID! No solutions I found would fix (reseting SMC or 'resetpassword' cmd in Recovery Mode).
    Thankfully I backed up my EFI partition before wiping the drive because touchbar macs have a special firmware file "Firmware.scap" that's required to boot correctly. On older OS' the firmware should be automatically recoverable when missing (or its bricked until Apple updates there internet recovery servers) but since Sonoma doesn't support it you have to manually replace if you wipe your drive or downgrade and do an internet recovery.

    I installed over the existing data on a 2015 MBP that had a 1TB SSD I'd installed and the build in 16 GB of Ram. I do audio production and have a ton of virtual instruments and plugins that don't seem to get reinstalled properly when coming from Time Machine to a fresh disk - they install fine but they no longer recognize being licensed to the machine. Takes a lot of time to sort out.
    Experience so far has been great - the new os opened up an extra 100 GB on my SSD and so far everything except one plugin runs fine. It's not something I use very often so I'll just delete it and move on.

    Thank you for this video! I've been using OpenCore from a clean install on a iMac 27, 8.0 GB, late 2014, Sonoma (14.4), for about 2 months now, but lately I've been experiencing various apps such Messages, Apple Mail, Safari, etc crashing. I'm also getting unexpected behavior from my Apple wired extend keyboard and magic wireless mouse. Rebooting resolves all my issues, but eventually in under an hour or so everything starts crashing again, but not always. I've ensured to do all the post updates etc. I tried accessing OpenCore support, but the links provided don't seem to work. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance..... Rick

      @@AnsonAlexander Update.
      I did the upgrade yesterday, the machine had the following characteristics: Processor 2.6 dual core I5
      Graphics intel iris 1536mb
      Ram 8gb 1600MHz Ddr3
      Ssd 1tb evo.
      The process took more or less 6 hours. 1 hour for the data back up on a usb that I had 256gb. also two hours to fix the usb with the sonoma on a usb 3.1 (Kingston 32gb). after 2 hours the software installation. and in the last hour I ran into a problem that for some reason did not see my ssd and I had to make a partition (1024mb fat32) to work the machine without the usb. it was a very nice process for me because I learned something more.patcher v1.3.0.
      And last the machine works a little slowly but it does the job I want it to do.

    I did a fresh install as well on my mid-2015 15" MBP. The post-install menu in OCLP app is showing me that all applicable patches are installed, so I'm guessing I shouldn't have to run it again. The only thing I've noticed so far is that it spins up the fans really loud when the wallpaper animates as a screen saver on the lock screen. It takes a few minutes for them to cycle down, so I disabled that animation feature.

    Hi! I'm trying to install opencore on 2015 MacBook Pro 15" and when I restart the computer to get the EFI Boot option, it doesn't show up. I press the option button, the installer is on the external USB. What could be the problem? I'm on Big Sur, and the SSD in it was changed already to OWC Aura. Maybe that could be an issue? Thanks!

    • @AnsonAlexander
      @AnsonAlexander  4 месяца назад +1

      Hey, interesting situation, especially with the replaced SSD. First of all, make sure you're building the installer on that computer, on the Big Sur installation. If you already did that, I would definitely try it first with another flash drive, or even just wiping the USB and rebuilding the installer. After that, I would (maybe) consider wipe the SSD and doing a fresh install of Big Sur (if it's been a while) and then building the installer again. Hope you figure it out, would love to hear back if you do. Good luck!

    Good tutorial and information, however for my 2014 13" MBP it is a fail. The OS seems to work OK, I am using it now. However, since 14.5 apps often quit unexpectedly. The use of the cursor keys, right click or ctrl click causes this to happen on multiple apps including Finder, Safari, Calendar and more. It means it is almost unusable. I am using it now, but am trying to remember not to hit a cursor key or I will lose this post before posting! It's almost as if Apple are fighting back against this with the 14.5 update!

      It's actually not there. The installation puts an alias (shortcut) in Applications for easy access, but the app itself is actually in /Library/Application Support/Dortania. You can probably move the alias to wherever you want, but I would not move the real app from its location if I were you.

      That model is fully supported by Apple for macOS Sonoma, so this video series doesn't apply. That being said, if you're comfortable with Ventura, and you don't have a specific reason to upgrade to Sonoma (apps that require it), Ventura will still be fully supported by Apple for one more year after the next macOS is released (usually in October). Apple fully supports the most recent three versions of macOS. As of this writing, it is Sonoma, Ventura, and Monterey. When they release a new macOS version later this year, they'll drop Monterey, but Ventura will still be in the list for one more year. You can defer upgrade until you really have to.

    a. I am having problem with making any windows/program to maximize screen size the program just hang and i have to force shut down the laptop
    b. MS Teams always hangs, slow response, sometimes it auto close, then I will need to force shut down the laptop
    c. Serial Number became unavailable on the system information
    For now, I will try to downgrade and check what will be compatible especially on MS teams.

    I bought a new Mac Book last November operating Sono a and can’t poster print from it. I have to go back to the old desktop and use windows whenever I need to poster print. Very frustrating! Apple says it is an Adobe issue but no one seems to be fixing this.

      What app are you trying to poster print from? What happens when you try?

    • @marilynwestbrook2678
      @marilynwestbrook2678 4 месяца назад

      I’m using the free Adobe Reader app. I don’t need anything more complicated than that (well, I never have before!). When I open up the print menu the “poster” option is greyed out and can’t be accessed. I’ve gone to “advanced” and there find a box which is permanently ticked that says something about “image print only supported”. Apparently it’s a known bug that they will presumably get around to fixing sometime but as Apple seems to be so popular with creative and designing type people you’d think they might prioritise correcting it. I need to poster print sewing patterns as I make dance costumes.

    • @dmnddog7417
      @dmnddog7417 2 месяца назад

      @@marilynwestbrook2678 Well, if it's an Adobe Reader issue, Apple doesn't have responsibility to fix it, Adobe does. Make sure that you have the appropriate driver for your printer installed. It kinda sounds like a printer driver function to me. Have you tried opening and printing the document with Apple's Preview application? It comes with every Mac and it's the default PDF and image viewer. For the majority of simple things you need to do with PDF, you don't need Adobe Acrobat on a Mac.

    I had some issues. after watching your video I did that with my MacBook Pro 2015. 8GB RAM ( I install it without wiping the disk)
    Issue:
    When I put my MacBook to sleep for a long period example I put it on sleep mode and if I open it after a few hours it doesn't wake up, I have to press the power button to turn it on.
    The performance is also bad, it works slowly when opening closing apps.
    What should I do?
    Reinstall it with wiping the disk or downgrade to old OS (Monterey)

      I'm assuming you've run all of the Post-Install Root Patches, have OpenCore Legacy Patched installed to the disk and have enough hard drive space. If all of that is true, I would really try it after wiping the HD, it just clears up a lot of crap that accumulates over the years. A fresh install really makes a big difference.
