Not bad but a bit tinny in the treble. I have a 2003 710ce with engleman spruce top and rosewood sides and back. I find it hard to match the sound of this guitar. I also have a 2022 814ce-n. This guitar has the warm and clear sound that I and my audience appreciates.
Taylor themselves consider the 814 to be the flagship, because it is their best selling model. But if we’re letting price points dictate status, then that would mean the PS14 would actually be the flagship model.
I’m probably in the minority here, but I personally thing the tone of Taylors went downhill when Bob let Andy take over, their beautiful looking, but tonally just mediocre, ditch the VBrace or give options, all the Taylor’s previously like the one Jewel has, Dave Matthew’s, or Travis Meeks all sound great, but they were all the previous gens with X braces
I just purchased a Builders Edition 814 ce Black Top. My Luthier is telling me it needs a fret job and set up . Over $200.00. I am VERY disappointed to say the least , and would not recommend Taylor guitars to anyone.
If you just purchased it, then it's under warranty. If it is frets that have an issue, then that's something Taylor can easily fix since their necks aren't set and are instead bolted on. The setup should have, at least in our perspective as a retail shop, done before the guitar hit the showfloor or left any building, so that's on the retailer you purchased from, and I'd return it to them. -- Could also be that your luthier is just trying to take you for a ride, becuase we rarely, if ever, get a bad guitar from the Taylor factory, US or Mexico.
Same here I reached out to Taylor and they covered it under warranty I got an 814 CE builder's Edition and it sounds amazing after frets were fixed and proper setup. It's definitely unacceptable that they are getting sent out like that but they are still wonderful guitars
V brace is Taylor’s way of cutting cost. It does absolutely nothing for the guitar. Does not help with intonation. None of that marketing jargon is true. V brace takes away a lot of the low end. The newer Taylor don’t sound as good. If you want a good Taylor, go buy one that’s X brace. 2017 or older.
I need to setup the lights in my room like that😊
Cool intro!
Thanks, Greg. We definitely wanted to do something different for this new flagship Taylor.

Taylor has done it again! They found yet another way to raise the retail price of the 814ce. Impressive!
Why do people consider the 814 the flagship guitar instead of the 914?
Isn’t the 914 supposed to be better?

To me Taylors are bright Martins.

Absolutely agree with you. They're visually stunning but the V class sound sterile.
