I remember about 8-10 years ago, there were so many rumors that Apple was going to make a TV set and also change the way we watch TV. It just happened!
No, that happened 10 years ago, it's called Apple TV - the "TV" is just a display, who want's to use the crappy UI/UX built into "Smart" TV's?
@@TheKimNeeper First Apple TV box came out in 2007 (16 years ago) and the rumor was about traditional TV with the display. It seemed Apple saw what the actually future of the traditional TV was back then and focused on making this headset instead. Talk about a company with a vision. They always work secretly on products that get released decades in the future.

Quest 3 is doing this right now at a cheaper price. You can watch 4k 3D films on a huge 200" screen in an actual movie theater with other people, alone, or in Augmented Reality mode directly inside of your home. Apple will have the better resolution, but Quest 3 is only 500, and it's the best around at the moment. Actually better than buying a television.
If those that try the actual demo claimed that the birthday scene feel real that you feel like can touch them and present in the same location and moment, it means the future movie would be like one sitting inside the actual scene while experience it. Even if you can't interact with them, that's mine blowing enough for me
because none of these people have likely used a vr headset before.

I agree with you 100%. Honestly, I've had this problem recently where I want to go see a big movie in the theater but when opening day comes I just can't be bothered to go to all the effort to go out. Oppenheimer will hopefully break that trend but honestly I'm mostly just so done with movie theaters.
@@sagnaik Did you not watch the video? Within the first minute and a half he explains that the Quest 2 just looks like a low quality display so movies don’t look great. As someone who bought and has been using a Quest Pro for the past two months, I can agree with that. I tried watching a few movies and Netflix on it, but it was just not that great looking. My MacBook Pro looks significantly better, as does my OLED TV. On the other hand, the Vision Pro has dual 4K micro OLED displays that are HDR capable and can hit up to 5000 nits of brightness. They will quite literally look like the best displays in the world until microLED (different from micro OLED) becomes cheaper to manufacture.
Contrast that with the Quest 2/Pro which still use LCD displays that have significantly lower brightness, cannot do perfect blacks (Pro can kind of, but it’s just local dimming so it’s not nearly as good) and it leads to an average looking display by comparison.

An interesting point. If you spend $3500 and use the headset for three years, and watch one movie per week, that's $22 per movie. But with all the other content that can also be consumed in that time (e.g. two movies a week is $11/movie), the hardware actually has a reasonable cost.
Imagine watching Jurassic park in 3D where the dinosaurs actually come out of your screen.
I’m beyond excited for this product and plan on buying one day one SOLELY for movie watching purposes. I’m in the market for a new TV, but I’m probably just going to hold off and get one of these puppies instead. The TV would be for myself in my bedroom anyway, so its not like I need a TV for others to watch with me. You also forgot to mention how you can watch 3D movies with the headset. As someone who owns a 3D TV and collects 3D Blu ray’s, they kind of feel obsolete now already which I honestly never thought would happen. I haven’t been this excited for a new Apple product since I was I was 11 years old in 2010 when Steve Jobs announced the very first iPad. I cannot wait.

@@robertdouble559 No, you got it wrong. The pixels are smaller than a iPhone pixel, Apple engineers fit 64 pixels in what is an iPhone pixel. That’s incredible you can’t even notice the pixels in an iPhone display. Also each lens are above 4k resolution so 4k times two meaning is above any 4k tv in resolution and reviews mentioned how it looks like you’re not wearing a headset! Looks like you’re viewing with your own eyes…it’s crips and this incredible resolution is needed so each spatial element looks a real object in your space…also Apple assured in their product website that the 100 feet inch entertainment mode is above 4k resolution so stop saying nonsense without doing proper research! You’re comparing this product to shitty headsets!

@@craigallday1236 you can plug it in for unlimited time tho, exactly like you can plug your MacBook and never run out of battery…specially if you’re watching a movie. For example I plug my computer and IPhone when I’m going to use them for a long time. For all the power intensive tasks vision pro does 2 hours of battery while not plugged is very impressive. Also not necessary for a great experience but I’m sure they’ll make bigger battery and 3rd parties will sell battery packs which many people buy for example to charge their phone on the go. Hope this helps!
A big thing I notice from watching things on screens vs watching content on my projector is that there is something special about bounced light and storytelling. I have a hunch that there is some reduction in eye strain that allows you to become just a little more relaxed and helps you to forget your watching a story and helps to just immerse you.
That’s just what I’ve noticed from watching most of my long form content on a projector. The other thing is I love watching stuff with my family as opposed to by myself. I feel like these headsets are another thing that will demonstrate the rift between families and single people.
They also added the bounced light to your environment. It reflects your virtual screen onto your real environment
Really well analysed!! Projection quality, and thus immersion, always have been Nolan's top arguments for cinema/IMAX, calling it the gold standard. But picture and sound fidelity of the headset might even surpass IMAX, creating an even greater immersion... An immersion which you can experience right from your sofa... It's so crazy, if you think about it.
I guess, the last missing link to create the full cinema experience is to put an additional subwoofer close to your viewing location, to feel the bass frequencies in your whole body. Because humans aren't particularily good at locating low frequencies, the bass wouldn't need to be virtualized in 3D space anyway.

No, get woojer haptic vest. You wear a subwoofer vest. Your body get blasted with the bass instead of the entire room.
Yeah the sound is something you can't replicate in an apartment or even in a mansion. You need to blast speakers worth millions to replicate cinema let alone rock concert. Maybe if you are super rich and live in the middle of nowhere.
The communal aspect remains a *crucial & irreplaceable* aspect. I’ve been witnessing how different it is for me to even listen to live radio vs streaming music, there’s this sense that you’re living something together with many other people. Same with watching a tv series episode vs streaming it. See the clip showing the apartments of an entire building displaying synchronized lighting due to almost everyone watching the new Game of Thrones episode. Even if the watchers don’t explicitly realize this, they most certainly feel it deep down and that changes the quality of their experience. Social experiences increase vividness & richness of felt experience. There’s a possibility that metaverse/VR world developers will try to incorporate this into their virtual environments by replicating some aspects of real life moviegoing, with people buying virtual seats to movies that start at fixed hours, thus partaking in communal experience.
I agree with you 100%. As a BONUS feature consider this: Apple has effectively miniaturised the 'virtual production' studio into a headset. Think of the LED walls and the virtual reality relationship with the cinema camera in a virtual production studio, as seen in Mandalorian. Notice the environments displayed on the LED sphere are lighting the subject. Now look at Apple's Facetime presentation demo. Apple's background replacement tool can cut out the subject, add in any background, and add appropriate subject shadows on the background. As demoed, it's like a TV weatherman version of virtual production. The only aspect missing from a more cinematic treatment is if the headset uses depth mapping to make it appear the subject is being lit by the background. And all of this happens live inside Apple's headset camera device. 'It's a monitor! It's a computer! It's a camera! It's a camera control unit! It's a 3D scanner! It's a virtual production studio!' I want to make movies for people wearing these kind of headsets

if you actually listened to the apple event you’d know that they said the put a lense so it can protect our eyes from that 5000 knits bright and sharp screen ofc it will still hurt our eyes but a little less even your phone does hurt your eyes every smartphone or laptop does you just can’t runaway from it your eyes will get damaged either ways
Because of the lenses between your eyes and the Micro OLED panels - your eyes won't know the displays are physically so close, it will "feel" like you're wearing nothing (except for the weight)
@@aygwm You should care, because you need working eyes to interact with virtual reality.
I think what people are also missing who are focused on this being a high entry price for a consumption-only use case, is that there is a potential new business model for rental houses to have a bunch available that they can rent out for $100 a weekend, maybe even more to coincide with big name digital releases etc. Sort of how Lensrentals and other shops give creators access to $3k+ lenses for $100 a week or weekend on an as-needed basis.
As weird as this sounds i do think there will be Vision Pro experiences.
I think any business that tries that will have a bad time--the first model is going to be $3500, but the fact that Apple called it the Vision Pro implies that there's going to be a Vision Amateur coming in the very near future for far less money.
I think we are going to see the movie/TV industry move towards fully immersive and interactive experiences that will require VR headsets, and traditional 2D screens will go quietly into the night, like radio programs of the early 20th century. This is the next chapter in entertainment. Disney said that the Vision Pro could bring Disney World into your world. Having your favorite attractions accessible in your living room could make trips to theme parks obsolete. This is the future, and I can't wait to try it.
This will never happen, because VR-headsets are always causing eye strain and for similar reasons why holding a tablet in front of your face and watching a movie is not the same as watching it on a big TV or in a cinema. I'm using VR since 2016 and own two headsets. I only launch VR if the experience is superior to 2D or even possible like Beat Saber. VR is not ideal for watching movies and MR won't change that.
Keep in mind that for parents with young children going to the movie theatre is a legit family experience that won’t go away no matter how incredible the vision pro is
As an avid movie goer, this is a dream come true for me. The only problem is ,apart from the price, I have to make my own damn popcorn..
I actually think, in terms of future of filmmaking, this also can change the same as a creative tool. Imagine a director using this as an on set viewfinder to communicate vision to collaborators, or even using this as a substitute for video village so you can monitor cameras wherever you are standing and don't have to keep going back and forth. Imagine doing both on a virtual set or on location so you can see CG characters and environments right in front of you along with the real environment and actors.
That’s how they made the lion king live action. Take that as you will lol

Tons of insight in this video. This tech is only going to get cheaper and more common. A lot of the criticisms and naysaying are reminiscent of when Apple launched the iPhone to be honest. They have a proven track record of taking tech that was only in the hands of early adopters and launching a mass market version that accelerates entire industries.
Let’s not get dramatic lol. Smartphones were a thing before the first iPhone. Apple just changed the game with its software and the touchscreen.

I have a 160 inch virtual screen using Nreal Air the size of ray bans. Full theater for my friends to join on the Quest. Apple is overpriced
Very cool breakdown of the possibilities. Really exciting tech looking at it this way. Even the thought of using it for mixed reality cinematography and it gives you details of the environment you're filming in and maybe showing live vfx rough drafts.
Part of me is all for the new experience in cinema and be in the comfort of my own home, but it’s also nostalgic to go to a theater and enjoy a movie with people. Let that headset be affordable like you said… game changer!! 🤯
Nostalgia for old experiences is always a huge factor in adoption of new technology. Look how long CD’s hung on for. People still buying vinyl and cassettes. They become niche but never obsolete.

I'm definitely in love with the shared experience of a movie theater, hearing others laugh, cry, gasp, and applaud. It's so enlivening. That's the spectacle that I love about a theater, but I'm also curious about the immersive experience of Vision Pro. I have concerns about the Dystopia it might bring, but I'm all for technological progress.
Top video as always. One silly thing i noticed, the outro music was more louder compared to your other videos. As someone who watches all your videos i could def feel the difference in audio levels at the end. The video editor in me just had to tell you :)

I see a challenge in the way you watch content together as part of a social group setting.
Have you ever done any of the social stuff in the Quest? I think you'll see experiences like Share Play (which Apple already has) in Vision Pro. You'll have your friends/family with you in the room, whether physically or not.
The Quest has already proven IMO that you can feel like you're with other people, and their tech is fairly bare bones in comparison.
While I agree, what about group movie nights? Or gamedays? Does everyone need to bring over a headset? You can't look to see people's reactions? I think that's what bums me out the most about this future, avatars will never be the same energy as a room full of friends and fans
I think you need to experience something like BigScreen VR in a Quest right now to fully get it. The thing about VR is it's so hard to explain how it feels - but I do believe things like Share Play will be fleshed out fully for Vision Pro and you will feel like you're with your friends/family whether they are physically there or not. The multiple headset concept won't fully be a reality until it's priced for the masses, but I do believe that will happen.

There is yet another amazing benefit of VR for palliative and long term care patients with limited mobility. This will allow them, and anyone not able to attend an event for that matter to experience the event from a distance in a much more immersive way!

Its an event to go to the cinema. Same as an orchestral symphony. The experience is extended into a social, meaningful shared experience. I imagine in time cinemas will augment the experience, but i doubt it will ever be replaced, no more than books or radio. They'll all exist as optional experiences.
I agree completely with you. From the first second of the apple presentation video, i had that feeling something big is about to happen.
Considering that i am using my home theater projector setup mostly alone, this Vision Pro could replace my projector. Although i am not sure how i feel with this thing. My first try of the SONY VR was a disaster. Anyway, these glasses will change many things on the long hand.

Imagine watching "Movies" that uses "First Person View" (Like "Hard Core Henry"), will be made in the near future. That level of "Experience" as you were the main character of the movie, just think what "Film Makers" can do with with this technology.

I went to see Spider-Man ATS and Transformers ROTB this week, it was so different being there compared to before the pandemic. It was mostly silent, everyone kinda seemed mildly uncomfortable to express themselves, and I don’t know, sometimes being able to pause is a good thing. (Not used to having to hold it in or miss the movie)
The theater experience is now at the house, I use an LG C1 and a sound system and I’m content. With good headphones, I can imagine this will definitely take over the experience down the line, especially if your friends get a headset too, SharePlay already exists for Apple and just needs a theater mode or something for Vision.

I'll be interested to see what camera tech will be released to capture content for "spacial" experiences. At a minimum it would have to replicate the camera in the Vision itself. I suspect that iPhones will be released with a method of taking Vision compatible movies.

From what I've read it's been insanely difficult to make this thing. Knowing how far ahead Apple is in terms of R&D, the fact that it's still not coming till next year is pretty telling. Engineers on Twitter have been saying they were working on it 3 years ago.
Now imagine how this technology could develop. I’m watching the Super Bowl with my Apple headset. I can walk down the sidelines, eavesdrop on the huddle etc. Watch a penalty flag get thrown and know the review outcome because I was right on top of it. Pretty cool stuff. World Series, March Madness etc. the possibilities are endless. Of course at my age it’s probably gonna happen after I’m gone.

I share the same thought about it. I am not excited about the computer part but the filmmaking, gaming and entertainment in general… damn it could be very very exciting
But there's something missing from not being in a theater...the other people. It's kind of like doing yoga alone vs with a large class. There's an intangible energy there which can't be felt without the presence of a crowd. I have a 13foot movie screen in my basement, with a 4k projector, Dolby Atmos sound etc...but I still go to the movies.
the other people is exactly why i know this will do well. theaters have become awful places to experience a movie.
just run the theatre maybe you can get some $$$ while you watch them.
I've been championing the emergence of volumetric video for a while now. I believe at some point we will be able to experience a movie within the frame. Like a live play where you get to interact or feel like you are there. The hard part is whereas a movie seamlessly builds tension through editing and pacing, it would be up to the director to guide the viewer in new creative ways.
I love 16mm like filter. Looks sick. Makes me want to tune in.
One day you will actually see the movie from within the movie itself.....more like a bystander watching the events from the side.
This would be the only reason I would buy it, but I can’t afford it anyway. Even if I got it though, I’m not a fan of wearing stuff on my head. Plus the sound wouldn’t be the same, and wearing headphones can bother at times to.
I hear you on price. Have you tried AirPods spatial audio? Apparently the Vision Pro has it's own built in AirPods basically. I've got a full home theater setup but I won't lie I just use my AirPods more often than not. Ha.
I use Quest 2 for watching 3D and even if movies are displied lower resolution, with small sharp zone view of lenses and bulky headset, immersion is huge. Even that I do not like watching in big screen still that you are somewhere else and there is no distractions and you can fully engage is huge think
Apple should partner up with a camera company to make a professional camera that filmmakers can use that would suit and maximize the Vision Pro and its immersive capabilities.
Interesting to brainstorm about how this might change the future of entertainment. There could be all kinds of things emerging. Think about taking the POV of certain characters during intense scenes
I agree with you. The key is the Vision Pro will have to achieve the fidelity and low latency we're talking about. The reviews so far seem promising, but I'd have to try it out myself to believe it. I've been waiting for the resolution, field of view and latency to get good enough for true movie viewing for a long time.

I was thinking the same thing, the most i am excited about ar/vr is movie experience where i can watch a movies on a screen as big as i want.
One big obstacle that gets in the way of the Apple Vision Pro being a substitute for a trip to the movies: weight. Far more comfortable to watch a movie for 2 hours without something as heavy as the Vision Pro. If there was a way to have the Vision Pro suspended from a ceiling to prevent the need for your body to carry the weight, then it would be closer to being a legit substitute for going to the theater.
This is a really interesting idea. Add to this the SharePlay technology that they already have and you could in the future have shared experiences with others wearing these things. I had never really seen the benefit of SharePlay before but I wonder if this could be where it gets used
You can do that as of today, that is you can watch a movie with another person remotely together , with the movie perfectly in sync in a cinema on the Vision Pro.
I'd love to give this headset a spin, but I think I'll ultimately prefer to go without. I just don't want something on my head. Same reason I don't like to edit with (studio) headphones.
I can't edit without headphones because I know most people wear them. It's the only way to mix IMO.

Not just watching a movie but you will be part of the movie in total immersion.
I hope that this tech doesn't take away theaters. If people end up strapping a headset to watch a movie, it's one more step to isolating people from one another. This tech may be "immersive" to a certain extent. But, I think the effects on socializing and connectedness to one another will be greatly affected. And not necessarily in a good way. But, I think many people, like myself, will still go out to theaters and other social events.
Do I want this tech? Sure. But, I will always want to experience some movies in theaters with friends and people laughing or screaming around me.
I feel so isolated in theaters now as it is. I’d rather be in a private experience with my friends virtually than the awful feeling movie theaters give me now. All etiquette has gone out the window. It’s been abysmal lately.
@@impatricktFACTS! People suck at movies! I'd rather go to a drive in theatre; those are still amazing and need to make a resurgence! But yea, high fidelity VR movies experiences with friends and family in VR like Big Screen is the future because you have the best of both worlds; big theatre experience withe people you WANT to watch it with.

I think it will be amazing to capture moments in virtual reality can you imagine in 30 years being able to watch your grandparents that have since long past away and feel like they are in front of you…. a photo isn’t the same, to be in the moment it’s where the future is taking us today we will capture memories but on phone screens imagine feeling like you’re in the same room as the people your watching from decades ago that’s something I want to see
We are in a period when people paying more than $10K over MSRP forToyotas and Ford, I won't be surprise if this Apple Vision Pro becomes a hit, what with 0% equal monthly installment payments on Apple Pay.

I shot without a soft box. Just harsh light on me. Gives it an edge.

I purchased an AVP primarily for entertainment. The only other Apple device I own is the latest-generation iPad mini I use for my business as a commercial photographer. Yup, I'm an early adopter, owned electric motorcycles too, but went back to ICE. The AVP is in its infancy for content. I feel this is as revolutionary as ATM cards were when they first came out. Naysayers poopoo'd those, especially given it was a direct link to your money. Now we deposit checks with our phones. So excited for this new tech and what I've seen it do.
Thanks for making this video. It is highly likely that AR/VR/XR will eventually become the dominant form of visual entertainment. Once the size shrinks down and the price drops, it will go mainstream. However, there is one bit of physics that you just can’t compete with (yet?): lots of large speakers moving air at loud volume. While you can virtually replicate the experience of an IMAX screen in VR, headphones or earbuds just don’t fully replicate the experience of powerful audio. Sound waves can literally travel through your body and shake the seat you’re in. (Not a D-Box… just the sound waves.) Until there is some revolutionary breakthrough in headphone technology, there will still be an “experience gap” in going to a Dolby Cinema theatre vs. wearing a headset. (Having said all of that, most people don’t care as much about audio quality or the audio experience anyway, so VR will eventually be a runaway success in replacing the movie theatre.) You can also mirror everything that your viewing on your Vision Pro onto your Apple TV device which you have hooked up to your tv where everyone can view as well

Well for now battery is 2 hours max, probably a lot less when watching in higher quality. They will probaby find a way to fix that in a newer version but I can imagine the wire being annoying if this kind of interactive movie viewing really happens

The technology is truly impressive. But half of the reason I go to the cinema is for the surround sound. Which I can't get living in an apartment withoiut noise complaints.
I have surround sound but i mostly just use Spatial Audio with AirPods. It's unreal.
i find the Vision Pro a great concept. but there are just certain different things that you can’t replace with a headset. You can’t sit on the couch with your friends and watch a movie on your tv, if this headset is supposedly “killing tv’s”. Apple’s Vision Pro seems like a device that would be very useful for someone that lives alone or not with a lot of people, because when it comes to doing things together, like watching a video, watching a movie, watching some tv, anything media related, that we normally would’ve done together on 1 screen, will just not work with a headset. And getting multiple headsets seems even more useless than just having 1 tv. I feel like this device will probably kill off the smartphone if it becomes smaller and the technology gets more advanced and it becomes more cheaper. But i don’t think Tvs or movie theaters will have any massive impact on this, going to the movies is often something you do with other people, what do you think of this?
I think if you've done a shared experience in a Quest, you realize the feeling of being with other people (whether they are with you physically or not) is quite apperent and "real" - I believe stuff like Share Play via FaceTime that Apple has released is a pre-cursor to concepts they will flesh out in Vision. I think they delibertely didn't show multiple people wearing headsets in the same room because of how dystopian it is to us right now - but it's absolutely what they envision for the future. China is already doing VR theaters too where people all wear headsets in the same, which is just funny if you think about it too much LOL
your concern can be addressed by simply using some of the many cameras/sensors on-board to find and then on your screen, display select objects (it's AR), like your friends and family. solved
@@karlsma7245 There's already internal leaks on affordable pricing even a year out from Vision Pro. Remember this because not only will the Vision Pro completely sell out, subsequent "affordable" options whether you think its affordable or not will also do insane numbers. Your analogy for the iPhone is perfect because it's truly a nonsense upgrade device year over year for how long now? But people just can't help it. And who's to say it doesn't become subsidized like a Phone bundled with entertainment and software subscriptions. They are already testing the waters with FCP being subscription based. Price is never going to be an issue.
@@karlsma7245 You could put Apple's software, without the eye tracking shit or anything else in a $300 Quest 2 and have a winner. I think you're over analyzing what a consumer version looks like. Quest is selling 20 million units of garbage already. Every Apple product now has a budget mainstream option. iPhone SE, the $349 iPad, Apple Watch SE, and HomePod Mini - even the MacBook Air. Fundamentally though I don't think price will ever be a barrier. Just like the iPhone and every other Apple product. We pay what they say. You can think it's stupid, and it largely is but it's the reality.
@@impatricktyes apple knows they need to get this to $1500 or less to get the MacBook Air crowd like me. To get the mainstream you need to be close to PlayStation prices. So it will be interesting if they ever go down to those prices or keep it MacBook Air range. Or perhaps both.

In 2009, I bought a 40 inch flat screen TV. It cost a little over 1,000. I can imagine the price of this thing will be greatly reduced in a few years.

Patrick, it actually makes sense. Since the Vision Pro is a personal device, the studios could sell a ticket per viewer, just like movie theatres do. It's the Amazon of the movie industry

There is something I want to add to this. Everyone is criticizing that 3D birthday party scene and dad was suppose to enjoy the moment together rather than trying to film with the Vision Pro headset on. That was a bad example but please look beyond that and look into the potential of this technology. Imagine someone customize the device to a flying drone and film the Grand Canyon in IMAX style 3d ! Imagine someone wearing while riding a rollercoaster and sharing their experience !! Imagine having the next person to visit the moon and recording their experience !! Imagine someone using it for sports like skying or skydiving and sharing in REAL TIME !!! We could even see a sports version of Apple vision pro. Imagine all these experiences you can have of other people in a IMAX style format in your bedroom! Apple plans for the long term and the first generation model is really aim for developers. It is GEN 2 or GEN3 when the prices comes down and to the masses. I have not gotten excited like this for the future of entertainment for a long time!!

The screen is an amazing experience for a single person, but it doesn't make sense for couples or families. And the 2nd component of enjoying a entertainment is sound, can the Vision Pro headset really compare to a good HiFi setup?

I’m a drone pilot and about 3-4 years ago DJI made a their first set of POV flight goggles that were ridiculously huge, but today they are smaller and better. My advice is for $3500.00 I’d wait until Apple’s headset is under $500.00 and a lot smaller. 😊

I just bought a 65” OLED maybe three weeks before the keynote and seeing the vision pro announcement I realized that’s probably the last tv I’ll ever buy.

Patrick, one thing I think you need to expand on is AI that will be able to generate your own personal and individual movies streamed to your headset based on the parameters you define. Say you want to branch off your own storyline for an off character of Star Trek. The AI streaming service could the generate that story for you on the fly. What is coming at us in the next 10-20 years will blow all of our minds in the world of entertainment. The streaming companies will exist not to make traditional movies, but will have AI solutions to give people exactly what they want. They will compete for the best AI story generators and having licenses to use actors images and voices. I can’t wait to join the original crew of the Enterprise in adventures that I get to define and being in the story with them on an immersive device like this.

I feel like headsets might just prove to be too much of a hassle. I just wanna sit down and eat my dinner while watching an episode of something, and these headsets will need to come a long way before they’re more convenient than TVs. I don’t want something pressed up against my face when I’m just relaxing. Once they’re as unobtrusive as glasses while being cheap enough for everyone in the house to have one, then they might have a chance to replace TVs.
People will always try to understand new things through an old lens. To this day I find it a little overkill to see so many people bring those big headphones to their plane rides. I’m a musician. This is the kind of thing you see in the studio. But it made it to the mainstream and now it’s just part of it. Why would it be strange to begin with? People want the best sound. It’s a means to an end. The same way people originally brought neck pillows. I’m sure that for someone of a much older generation who was used to gastly outdated airplanes (by todays’s standards), where you could still smoke and options were very limited, bringing a neck pillow might seem pretty odd. But the saying goes, times change and we must change with the times. What ultimately sets this apart is emphasis on reality and responsiveness that a vast majority who actually tried this described. And with that, I think you can achieve so much on a really broad spectrum that I don’t think we can even imagine it, looking at it through today’s lenses. When the microwave first showed up everybody was worried with radiation. Same thing with mobile phones at one point. Did any one of them disappear in the decades they’ve been around? Quite the contrary. They’ve gone down in price so much, anyone can afford them. A lot of people probably don’t know the first mobile phone cost a whopping 4000 dollars when it was released: 11.000 dollars if you adjust the original number to inflation. And now people complain about $700 smartphones. When done right and efficiently, when you listen to what the people want and when you give it to them and keep improving upon it, technology can become quite the powerful tool and ally to have. This is all new. If you’re at all skeptical, give it time. You’ll see (literally).

Personal experience has taught me that 2nd gen Apple devices are extremely better than 1st gen. 3rd gen are significantly better than 2nd gen. Once they get to 3rd gen, the updates tend to be incremental.
I bought the 1st gen iPhone. I waited on the iPad, for gen 2. For the Apple Watch I waited for the third gen.
I am excited about Vision Pro, but I think I will wait for the 3rd gen device. It will have a lot of updates and will likely have much better battery life and weigh much less.
EDIT: I am certain I will have moments of FOMO. I agree that in public transportation (flights, bus, train, ship), this will be a game changer.
