wait, why would you not include your reaction to Indiana Jones shooting the swordsman? Seems like it would be an obvious thing to include?
Why do you keep calling his whip a rope? You never heard the word before?
Someone may have already pointed this out, but "Noah's ark" was a large boat. "The ark of the covenant" was a container for the stone tablets on which the ten commandments were written on by God. Depicted as being about the size of a coffin, like here. Both are often just referred to as "the ark" but are two different things.
Technically, Noah's Ark IS a huge crate. exactly like the Ark of the Covenant. "Ark" comes from a latin word "arca" meaning a large crate or a chest or even a sarcophagus. Something very geometrical and not at all a boat. In the end, Noah's Ark had only to float on the water, not to navigate, so it didn't have to be boatlike.
Indy was super upset when he thought Marion was dead. He's clearly distraught and drinking when Belloq finds him.
What do you mean he didn’t seem concerned about her dying?!! He sat at a table with a tall bottle of alcohol. Then Belloq’s gentlemen meet him and he’s depressed to the point of reacting suicidal about “seeing God” together with Belloq.
George Lucas and Steven Spielberg did a collaboration for this movie. They were trying to re-create the feel of the serial action short films that were popular in the 30s and 40s.
Back in the 30s etc. going to the movies was a big deal. They'd have a cartoon, one or two short films like 3 stooges, laurel and hardy and a sci-fi or action based series. They'd also have the news. Back before TV was commonly available going to the theater was the only way to see what the news looked like.
Indiana Jones does not use rope as a weapon, he uses a bullwhip. A piece of woven leather that unfurls so fast that it breaks the sound barrier, hence the "crack" of the whip.
There is or was a website dedicated to what was in that warehouse at the end. Just supposition but damn funny.
Whip. Not rope, whip. Indiana Jones uses a whip. Specifically a bullwhip.
It was infuriating to think they've never heard of a whip
Karen Allen (Ms. Indiana Jones) visited my town for our film festival twice. She is just as lovely now as she was back then and a very nice person. Seeing Raiders on the big screen outdoors with her introduction was a great time.
thats so cool to hear! ur lucky
I've always had a crush on Karen Allen. She was born the same day/year as me about an hour from my hometown. Not much of a connection, but it was good enough for me.
Poor monkey? That monkey was a Nazi, it did the salute and everything!
Monkey Nazis. I might not hate them as much as I hate Illinois Nazis, but I sure don’t like them at all.
It's not the rope that's the whip.
Now it's time for Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.
How can anyone mistake a whip for some rope? What a bad reactor!
@@mikelarsen5836 Relax, bro. It was a very good reaction.
Toht (the creepy guy with the burnt hand) was supposedly based on actor Peter Lorre, best known for playing the creepy character in movies like Casablanca, The Maltese Falcon & the 30's version of The Man Who Knew Too Much... Lorre was often parodied in Bugs Bunny cartoons... A few years after Raiders, the actor playing Toht would be the U.S. President in The Adventures Of Buckaroo Banzai
And he also got a haircut from John Lennon…true story.
"Back to the Future" was Robert Zemeckis, but Spielberg did help produce it.
it's not that Brody doubts Indiana's skills, it's that he sees The Ark as something more than a relic or a mere historical piece, there is a power to it and a danger (it is otherworldly), Brody sees the stories around the Ark as potentially true, but faith is something Indy doesn't put any thing into, for Indy it's an academic object, a historical item and nothing more (Indy doesn't believe in faith, magic, curses, the supernatural.... he's a scholar), he protects himself from real dangers not supernatural ones
In the end he believed though. The legend of the Ark goes that only the high priests of Israel were allowed to look directly at it so it was kept in the inner sanctum of the Temple of Solomon in the Holy of Holies and even then they only approached it once a year during Passover ceremonies. That is why he told Marion to keep her eyes shut because no one but the high priests of Israel were allowed to look upon the contents.
Which is weird though, his lack of belief in magic at this time, since "Temple of Doom" happens _before_ "Lost Ark" chonologically...
Spot on.
Not a rope, nor a lasso, Indiana Jones carry a whip. Best. Leo.
It's a whip, not a rope or a lasso.
The 'government' guys state at the discussion about the Ark that the narsties are after it. Weren't you paying attention?
Apparently, the real Ark of the Covenant is in a small temple in Ethiopia. No-one is allowed to see it or go near it, except for one trusted priest who guards it round the clock. The priests have changed as they all get radiation poisoning from close proximity to the Ark eventually. Whether this is true or not, i have no idea, but it makes for an interesting story.
You two got to be joking:
-not a rope or lasso. It’s a whip!
-burning hand in the sand? In Nepal? Sand in the Himalayas? It’s snow.
-in beginning it’s said the Nazis are after the ark. Who do you think we’re clad in black coats?
-“what’s that”? Salah just said it’s the map room.
The Score Was Written And Composed By The Incomparable John Williams, Also Responsible For The Themes To Jaws And Star Wars!!"
Thank you for using the word incomparable!
We live in a time of exaggeration where everything is "the best"
But ironically in John's case it couldn't be more true that he has no equal! And no one can compare!💖
Him and the incomparable
STAR-INA!🙈😂
And Superman
Also Close Encounters, E.T., Jurassic Park, Harry Potter
@@scottalynch And Schindler's List.
That was indeed Doc Oc. This was actor Alfred Molina’s film debut.
It’s called a whip, not a rope.
The "rope" that Indy has all the time, is a whip, not a rope.
Did you not recognize Indy’s friend in Cairo? It’s John Rhys Davies, Gimli in Lord of the Rings
Actually well spotted; the guy who pulled the gun on Indy in the beginning was the same actor/stuntman as the guy with the eyepatch and monkey later on, playing a different role. Spielberg wanted to do this as a nod to the old 1930's serials, since they often used the same actors to play different characters in the same movie, to save money.
(Also, the bald German boxer was the same actor as the bearded Sherpa at Marian's bar (the one where Toht, the creepy German interrogator, said "shoot them both!")
Vic Tablian, "Poison dart pincushion" and "Nazi monkey handler." Pat Roach. "Giant Sherpa" and "Giant German fist fighter."
@@Otokichi786 Thanks! Pat Roach shows up again in the other Indiana Jones movies, too!
This is my all time favorite movie and I didn't spot that. Great information, glad I read your comment.
Indiana Jones was a professor at a university. Not a teacher. His colleague was probably the Dean not a principal.
im impressed you recognized alfred molina!, i had to be told and it blew my mind lmao
Never heard of a bullwhip being called a rope and a lasso :P
Back to the future was directed by Robert Zemeckis. Spielberg was the executive producer. Spielberg produced a lot of movies and, while BTTF was a great movie, not everything Spielberg put his name on was any good. As a director, however, there was none better. Some of his best, along with Jaws and this movie, were Jurassic Park, Schindler's List, and Saving Private Ryan.
The reason the score of this movie reminds you of the Star Wars score is because they were both composed by John Williams, who scored some of the biggest films in history- Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, Jaws, E.T., Superman, Close Encounters, etc.
Some Raiders trivia:
The call letters on the side of the sea plane at the beginning of the movie is OB-3PO.
Among the hieroglyphs on one of the tomb walls are images of C-3PO and R2-D2.
Most of the snakes in the Well of Souls were rubber prop snakes, with a few live, non-venomous snakes thrown in to make it look like they were all moving. The cobra was real. If you freeze the frame at the right time, you can see the snake's reflection in the pane of glass positioned between it and Indy.
I can;t believe they don't know what a whip is!!! LOL
After Marian "dies," Indy is very forelorn, gets drunk, and decides to suicide himself and take out Beloch with him. So yeah, he was affected by her death. Heh.
And it's a whip. Not a rope. Not a lasso. ;)
It's not sand in the ark.
It's ash.
The fire on the ship was the ark burning the sacred relics.
The original stone tablets, Aarons rod and a pot of manna.
Noah's Ark was a ship and the Ark of the Covenant was the gold cover wooden chest
Doesn't say much for their intelligence or education!
Hipsters don't/didn't go to Sunday School, either.;)
1. While filming in Tunisia most of the cast got food poisoning and Ford actually got diarrhea from it. and was very ill. The scene where he shoots the guy
was supposed to be another long fight scene but Ford was feeling so bad and it was terribly hot so he basically said, "The hell with this" and just shot the guy.🤣
2. Karen Allen played Boone's squeeze in "Animal House" HINT HINT
3. If you don't like spiders you're going to love the next one. It's not the best of the bunch but it's adventurous. Willy is a pain in the ass though.
4. Two overlooked Harrison Ford movies worth a first time/share are: "Witness" and "Force 10 From Navarone"
5. The ride at Disneyland is pretty cool. Make sure it's one of your first to get it out of the way before the line gets too long. Adventureland.
The story about the swordfight is 100% true. A little bit of footage survives from the failed takes, which they didn't end up using. Check the video below at about 4:05 and you can see a few seconds of the fight they were planning to have.
ruclips.net/video/cUtkNMmVDqU/видео.html
And they didnt even show that scene, possibly one of the most iconic moments in the movie and they just skip past it
This was one of the very few times that I believed that a character had died - when they were actually alive. Marion's supposed death is very well done. We see the truck explode with Marion "inside" it. Indy then goes to a bar to get drunk, mourning Marion. You seldom see a scene like this unless a character has genuinely died. When Indy reunites with Sallah, he tells him that Marion is dead and Sallah says "Yes, I know" as though he's confirmed it by seeing the body or something. He then immediately says "But life goes on" which is a VERY movie thing to do - draw a line under a tragedy and get on with the plot. So you really believe that Marion is dead and it's a complete surprise when she shows up in Belloq's tent.
The most iconic scene in the film and it's not included lol...
Saw in the theaters when I was a kid. It was just tilted "Raiders of the Lost Ark" then.
I like in the beginning with the spiders when he started turning around and you first said (oh look there’s one on him) 😳😱 Ooooooh 🕷🕷🕷 lmao 🤣
It's not a rope, it's not a lasso, it's a bull whip.
Thank you! It kinda bugged me that they didn't call it by what it really is.
See the 'original' under the truck stunt in the 1939 film Stagecoach, in which stunt man Yakima Canute falls between the horses and wheels of a moving stagecoach; featuring a very young John Wayne.
Great reaction guys! An amazing first movie for an amazing franchise. Make sure you watch parts 2 (Temple of Doom), and 3 (Last Crusade). Temple of Doom is the prequel to Raiders of the Lost Ark as it takes place a year prior (1935).
John Rhys Davies (Sallah) is better known these days as the dwarf Gimli in Lord of the Rings
The character of Marion had a romance with Indiana when she was underage (as she says, she was a child in love). It ended (maybe from Indiana running off?) and, as a young girl with her first love, she likely thought it was forever and was broken-hearted as a result of his leaving without her (though we don’t get details and are just left to interpret her bitter slap and couple of lines on the subject uttered with a tone of disappointment and anger).
Sorry, punch, not slap!👊
maybe you're that child remark a bit too literally? it can be an expression you know? like someone in their early 20's being playfully nicknamed kid and so forth?
I always thought of it that Indy was in his early 20s as a college student studying under Ravenwood and maybe Marion was a teenager at the time.
@@thegladve I checked online resources before posting and both Karen Allen and a novelization indicated the character of Marion was 15-17 when she had a relationship with Indy when he was in his late 20s.
@@daytoncharitychicken you know the term " online resources" doesn't mean as much as you think since misinformation can spread like wildfire online right?
Enjoy watching with you. The music was by John Williams, same man who did the music for Star Wars. Might try a blast from the past and watch Forbidden Planet, great early science fiction movie.
And as amazing as this movie is: God bless you, John Williams
The Ark of the Covenant is a real thing talked about in the Bible. In was used to hold the stone tablets of the 10 commandments and other holy artifacts. If Israel was faithful to God, it would make their armies unbeatable, but when Israel was not faithful to God it was captured by their enemies, who suffered various plagues until it was returned. The look of the Ark in the movie is very true to how the Bible describes it, and the priests robes Beloc wore when doing the ritual were quite accurate too.
Do you the difference between a whip and a lasso?
That was a storage facility at Area 51 that they put it in at the end.
Those insects were real. Gotta love the 80's!
Speaking of Indiana Jones, Harrison Ford participated his final act as Indiana Jones for new movie. It is still untitled movie. Right now, it is known as Jones 5. Jones 5 is scheduled to be released in June, 2023.
Special effects for the ending were practical effects
I hope you realize that Harrison Ford stared in Star Wars as well.
Subbed. Nice to see people actually invested in the films they're watching, and not talking endlessly over dialog.
I recommend Minority Report.
Great
When the Nazi shows his hand he has the imprint of the headpiece,, this is how they made a copy, but since they did not have the other side, they made the staff too long and thats why they were digging in the wrong place
GalaxyQuest, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Twister, Batman and Robin, Jurassic Park, Cars, The Sixth Sense?
Okay..... The last sequences you were about to witness is biblically 💯% correct in every way possible.... I will try my best to explain what is going on in each segment of this last sequence..... I will time code each event so that you can go back and watch and then reference what I said....
Indiana Jones, famed treasure finder-man, known for his trademark rope.
1:47 ur right... it is Alfred Molina.
I didn’t see this below and when the agents came at the beginning I didn’t know if Indiana was clear enough. It’s a Sunday school Bible story from the Old Testament. The gold ark you saw coming out of the tomb… Spielberg being Jewish would have built the fake ark after the dimensions from the Bible …so many cubits by so many cubits. Moses would have been given the exact cubits by god. The ark couldn’t be touched by man or they would die. There was always mystery surrounding the ark and to this day there is still mysteries around it. It’s supposed to be in Ethiopia under guard. Supposedly Bathshebaone of king Solomon’s wives gave it to her son and he took it somewhere. To some scholars and religious people the stories about the arks power are true. Cunning of Spielberg to create this ficticous screenplay around a religious and biblical historic artifact and the nazis.
The indiana Jones was the temple of doom in perth 1984 at old hoytz cinemas in hay St mall and me all of my cousins went to see it and my two sisters freaked out when one of the bad boys got the heart ripped out and you should do a reaction off all
Wait till you see Temple of Doom, The Last Crusade and Finally The Crystal Skull.
The guy in Egypt is in lord of the rings he’s Gimli
It's just called Raiders of the Lost Ark. They didn't start adding the name Indiana Jones to the titles until the second movie, Temple of Doom.
38:38 now God is about to reveal himself and what he's about to do is very powerful... What rises from within the ark are the two angels that are doing the ark those two angels their names are Grace and Mercy.... The reason Indiana tells Marion to shut her eyes is because we are unworthy to look upon the face of God to look upon the face of God is to see death we cannot contain his glory for ourselves it will be too much for the body to take and it's through the eyes that God will judge you and your heart.....
38:30 the term this isn't for your eyes... Means exactly that God does not want the world to see what he is about to do... Is why he destroyed the cameras.
I must say, very... interesting watching millennials react to my all time favorite film. No, Indy didn't have a rope or lasso. (he called it a whip at the beginning of the film) sympathy for the Nazi monkey (though I don't think you realized the monkey was working for the Nazis), that Indy truly loves Marion, that they had an affair when she was very young, which was what drove a wedge between Indy and her father ( Marion: I was a child, I was in love) and so many other missed things, (seems like you watched it without sound maybe?) delivered with ernest, honest (though emotionally distanced) commentary on the film.
As badass as Indiana Jones is, I find it hilarious that he's ophidiaphobic (terrified of snakes). 🤭😁😅😂🤣☠️
Alien didn't even get one vote that's surprising 😮
there is or was a live action verison of some of this flim at disney hollywood stutios
Fun fact: a scene where Indy kills shooting a bad guy with big ass showed, was improvised. Harrison should fight that stand man but he was very sick that day so instead of fighting he shoot him.
My Personal favorite film of all time, defiantly check the sequels out 4th ones shit but check it out anyways! 2nd film is actually a prequel but it`s like old James Bond each adventure is stand alone.
PG movies certainly were much different 40 years ago
Never been convinced that Marion wasn't killed in the exploding truck.
35:40 the Ark of Covenant is considered a very holy relic.. so holy and the fact that it will not allow impurities around it of any kind including humans... That is why if you physically touch the ark you will die..... You have to remind yourself that God's presence is around the ark of the Covenant all the time....
After hearing them call it a "whip" several times in the movie you two continue to call it his "rope"...wth!??
While George Lucas was waiting to see if "Star Wars" was going to be a hit at the theaters, he and Steven Spielberg thought about new projects. Spielberg wanted to "do 'James Bond," while Lucas recalled the cliffhanger movie serials of the 1930's. With their second choice lead actor in place, another franchise was launched and Harrison Ford became "Dr. Henry Jones, Jr." With enough action for THREE movies, "Raiders" hit the theaters like "Star Wars." This movie convinced a generation of college students to "dig in the dirt," since Archeology was a cool profession. Two-Fisted "Marion Ravenwood" made a perfect foil for the after-hours artifact hunter. Yep, "Raiders" was Alfred Molina's first major motion picture role. Actor Vic Tablian got to be "killed by poison darts in South America," then the "handler of a Nazi monkey" in Egypt. Do you want to "do a U-Boat"? Try this 1992 LucasArts game: ruclips.net/video/LZZXJ3zCRDQ/видео.html
Correction: Noah's Ark was NOT a ship. An ark is a sacred vessel (as in container). It was a box. Noah's Ark was a large box to put sacred (valuable) animals in. The Ark of the Covenant was a smaller box to put sacred (valuable) tablets and artifacs in. Noah's Ark was never a boat. It was just a box, sealed to make it waterproof (as God commanded, 'seal it with pitch') to protect the contents from the flood. God said 'Build me an ark ...' Modern bibles changed it to 'ship' to make it easier for religious idiots to swallow. ... (They'll buy anything.)
Thanks guys, this was fun... Katie cracks me up!!! 😀😀😀
"The rope!" "The lasso!"; seriously?
God had Moses milled the Ark of the covenant to hold the 10 commandments, Aaron's staff that was used to turn the river blood in Egypt, and I think manna.
Horses are native to Arabian areas.
You should do a reaction of indiana jones temple of doom and the last crusade and 4th one indiana Jones the kingdom of crystal skull and he making a 5th instalment of indiana Jones
Witness is a great one with Harrison Ford playing a very different character. And I hope you’ve seen ET, if not, that should be next. And Starman with Karen Allen and Jeff Bridges.
Bullwhip. Not rope. Not lasso. Leather bullwhip.
38:01... The outfit that Belloqu is wearing is known as the high priest garments. The ephod and the breastplate which house is the names of the 12 tribes of Israel... The only problem is Belloqu is French and not Jewish.... And he's definitely not of the tribe of Levi....
1) Stop calling it a rope or a lasso. It's a whip.
2) They are not looking for an ark like Noah's Ark. Do you not know what the Ark of the Covenant is?
Where are the next two reactions?
You two definitely didn't go to Sunday school
When are you guys gonna get to the other two?
at the end there that is AREA 51
This movie is very biblically based Steven Spielberg is a natural born Jew and so most of the end sequences you see near the end of the movie is 100% accurate....
25:19 turn ark. It's just another word for container or a safe. The ark in Noah's day is a large safe to secure and safeguard animals of all types. In Moses's time he was put into a basket also known as an arc or a safe. This Arc or safe houses something very important to God....
are you guys going to watch the other 3 please
22:44 that cloud or that storm coming in is not a storm..... In the Bible days it is often said that God will come as a storm... A pillar of fire by night and A cloud by day.... That is in fact the LORD himself.....
38:47 what appears to be spirits or ghosts are in fact angels... The two angels that are seated at the top of the mercy seat.... As they move around we are seeing that after images because they are moving extremely fast.... To us it looks like ghost but in reality they're moving so fast and only thereafter images are being shown.... What they are doing is searching every man's heart to see if there are any among them who are considered perfect or holy... But mankind is Born into sin and unless those people who are watching all of this aren't saved then God will abide by the law for the wages of sin is death and it is justified.... When the Bible speaks of the "terror of the Lord was upon them." this is what they saw....
I will do my best to try and explain to you why the ark of the covenant does what it does... The Ark of the Covenant or Testament also known as the God's footstool is what holes the law, (The Ten Commandments,) the rod of Aaron and a bowl of mana that they that the children of Israel ate during the wilderness days. Talk to the Covenant used to sit near the rear of the temple in Jerusalem....
Dudes! That is not a nice monkey! That is a Nazi monkey!
When are you going to come back to this franchise and watch 2 The Temple of Doom & 3 The Last Crusade? Those are great but the one after that sucked.
you guys have to be careful with these movies they are Addictive but i can give you one piece of advice, PAY ATTENTION TO THE EXPOSITION SCENE. that is the scene that lays out the mission for you give you the names of characters. this is a movie where you have to THINK FAST. otherwise, the scenes you miss will not make any sense. in the days before you tube and VCRS the only way to understand the movie was to see it again, and again and again .that was and still is the "trap" of the blockbusters.
Bingo. It is doc oct
Great reaction -- you guys are fun -- keep 'em coming!
Thanks for watching!!!! We appreciate that :)
Please please react to #KGFChapter2Trailer
26:30 beautiful shine that you see coming from the ark is known as the shekinah Glory... The very essence of God himself permeates around and in the ark of the Covenant it is to remind the Israelites that God is always with them...... The angels that adorned the top of the ark is known as The Mercy seat, during the festival of atonement the high priest in Israel was sprinkle blood from a sacrifice lamb on top of the mercy seat seven times to secure and ask for forgiveness of the sin that permeates all of us..... Later on in the Bible it was Yeshua (Jesus Christ) who ultimately ended sacrificing...
