Vintage Takumar lens versus a modern Sony Kitlens | Which lens is better?

- In this video I compare a 35mm vintage Super Takumar from the 1970's with a modern Sony Kitlens (SEL 28-70) set at 35mm. For every shot in this video I have both the lens and camera settings the exact same. How will the old lens perform against the modern Sony? Pixel-peeping starts at 3 minutes into the video, there you can see a clear difference.
Lens 1: Super Takumar 35mm 3.5
Lens 2: Sony SEL 28-70 set at 35mm
Camera: Sony A7 III
Filming locations: Delft: markt, stadhuis, nieuwe kerk
Rotterdam: oude haven, kubuswoningen
Nice lens comparison. Great work
Very good video! I enjoyed it. Good comparison but I would like to see the Takumar prime lens vs a Sony prime lens. I think that would be a better comparison.
Your video is nice👍👍👍
Awesome video, what kind of adapter do you use?
Thnx, I'm using a non branded M42 - Nex (Sony) adapter from a cheap Chinese website.
Thanks for the quick reply!
The Takumar has more pop to the images.
Yes, I know I'm comparing a prime lens to a basic kit-lens. And yes, I know a modern prime lens will blow this Takumar out of the water. But I still think it's interesting to see how a 50+ years old piece of glass outperforms a modern Sony kit-lens
If you are on street photography and suddenly it appears a box of tea thrown of nowhere your kit lens will be more useful but if you want to take 2 or 3 artistic shots With the takumar I understand. The fast aperture on manual lens is pretty worthless now days because a kit zoom lens like sal55200 Sam + la-ea3 will make a way better result on a body camera with image stabilization than a manual lens
Loved this!!! THANKS~~
Beautiful place... and the structures 🥰
It's so cruel comparing Takumar to Sony, but result is not so cruel. On the contrary, considering its size and price, COMPARABLE! Except for auto-focus.
Great video, it was helpful.
I think that Takumar is better. Personally i prefer vintage lenses more than modern in many cases. For example, video and portraits.
Super Takumar lens is so great! I want this one.
I can't differentiate quality between both lens. In my phone, 1080 is maximum. Haha 😃
ㅎㅎ yeah its only visible in 4k on a large screen
I have been using Takumar lenses for many years on both crop sensor cameras and a full frame DSLR. I have some auto-focus lenses but always turn auto-focus off. It rarely focuses on what I'm trying to capture and is more frustrating than anything. So being a manual focus lens if anything is a plus over the auto-focus lens. My Takumar lenses ranged from the f/3.5 24mm, f/2 35mm, f/3.5 35mm, f/1.4 50mm, f/2.8 105mm, f/2.8 120mm and the f/2.5 135mm. I sold some that I now regret in order to purchase a Sony a6000 (the 105mm and 120mm lenses) as they all are incredible on the a6000 especially with the focus peaking.
That's a nice collection you got there, I understand your regret about selling the 105 and 120.
Super Takumar I also use this very nice lens😊✨
Yes I really like Takumar lenses, good old made in Japan quality
It's no surprise that the Takumar is pretty good but I WAS surprised how much better it looked on some of those landscape shots, particularly the night time ones. For the close up shots of the Pukka tea the Takumar maybe threw in more aberations but I could live with either lens for those shots. Of course, in fairness to the Sony lens, it gives you all the benefits of being a zoom lens and having autofocus, so for many people it's the obvious choice, but I know which one I want on my camera!!!! Great video ohjajohh.
Hi Tim, the nightshot really surprised me too. I took several pics with different apertures and shutter speeds, but the Sony never came near the quality of the Takumar.
@@ohjajohh I guess if you didn't have the side by side comparison you'd probably be totally happy with the results from the Sony, but I'm kind of glad the Takumar came out top - there's plenty of life left in these vintage lenses.
The comparison of lenses was interesting.
I am currently using a Sony lens.
I thought it would be interesting to compare it with the original Canon I used before.
Thank you. I never used Canon lenses before, but I hope I can try some in the future. I like old lenses because the build quality is so much better than modern lenses.
Sehr schön gezeigt. Sony gefällt mir auch sehr gut. Daumen Hoch für Dich. Ich lasse auch einmal ein ABO da. Gruß Rainer
Very nicely shown. I also like Sony very much. Thumbs up for you. I'll also leave an ABO there. Greeting Rainer
Danke schön
