These lenses create the perfect “vintage feel”. Even though you cannot reduce this feel to just one type of lens since there are countless other vintage lenses on the market, this seems to come very close to what most are after.
I think the flares are very much that vintage aesthetic!
However you still get decent sharpness and contrast which is nice
I own and use the following Asahi Pentax Takumar lenses on my Pentax 35mm SLR film bodies and my digital mirrorless bodies:
Asahi 28mm f/3.5 Super-Multi-Coated Takumar (49mm filter)
Asahi 35mm f/3.5 Super Takumar (49mm filter)
Asahi 50mm f/1.4 Super Takumar (8-element) (49mm filter)
Asahi 50mm f/1.4 Super Takumar (7-element) (49mm filter)
Asahi 105mm f/2.8 Super Takumar (49mm filter)
Asahi 135mm f/3.5 Super Takumar (49mm filter)
Asahi 200mm f/5.6 Super Takumar (49mm filter)
Asahi 300mm f/6.3 preset Tele Takumar (58mm filter)
Takumar are great lenses for a reasonable price. The 8-element 50mm and the 105mm are my personal favorites. The 7-element 50mm is radioactive.
Thank You for sharing. I've just found a super takumar 50mm (8 blades version) , I'm testing it, it's just gorgeous. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for watching:)
The 8 element is a very special lens! Enjoy! 🙏
These are perfect paired with the film emulation.
True
I used Juan Melara's 'Film Unlimited' this time
that short film for the intro was so good, would love a breakdown video on the editing process!
Thank you! :)
There's not too much to it honestly haha
Anything specific you'd wanna know?
@@YuvalAloni the sound effects, transitions, color grading (basically everything)
Takumars are just special, they render color very well, they have that smooth blur that gives a refined look to an image, and they can do bokeh like there's no tomorrow.
I don't know what kind of video work you do, but they can be great for interviews (stationary ones), I have great results with 55mm 1.8 on high fps, I tried it even for wedding HL
got excellent results during photo sessions in nature, and in the evening at the wedding party on 100fps really nice looking footage.
They’re great! Still need to put them through the paces tho
For sure, they are old so hazing can easily occur, you can manage that in the post but better not to have that in the first place.@@YuvalAloni
Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us! Your channel is very valuable.
Thanks for the love!
Appreciate it
A friend of mine went to Japan and found this 55m f1.8 for 20 dollars...WITH the pentax camera, in mint condition.
Lucky !
Good to see a light been shone on Takumars. Bravo and thank you.
But seriously all of the Takumar lenses offer a unique and artistic image. I wouldn’t know whether it is possible to create a set with the ‘same’ look (which is what Leica, FD and Contax lenses seem to avail). Anyone know if anyone has matched a set?
As you suggest, however, the flare is significantly affected by the coating which changed through the various series of M42 Takumar. I have recently acquired several Takumars - nine to be precise - starting with a very early Takumar 1957, 55mm F2.2. I am looking forward to testing them. 🙏
Looking forward to seeing your tests with them!
@@YuvalAloni haha! That would mean I will need to set up a YT channel… something I have successfully avoided that to date; but maybe it is time to emerge from the shadows of lurkerdom!
@@Democratiser 😅 can only offer my encouragement (:
@@YuvalAloni Very kind. It is actually timely as I got a little carried away at a recent liquidation auction of one of the best private camera museum collections in the Southern Hemisphere: its Leica collection was world renowned. While I didn’t venture into that league (apart from a Leica Mini Zoom compact…) I did get some interesting gear: several Pentax as mentioned; Olympus Pen F and 5 lenses; Olympus M1 and M1 lens (released prior to Leica forcing a name change to OM-1) some Zeiss M39 and M42 glass; some historically notable gear from Topcon, Bertram, Roleiflex; and a few dozen rangefinder, viewfinder, folder, SLR and early digital cameras from a multiplicity of manufacturers.
Many of the camera models I had not been aware of previously. I had not been aware of some of the manufacturers either. I mean, am I the only person to not know ‘Okaya Optic’ released the ‘Lord SE’ in 1956; or that TAIYODO KOKI produced the ‘Beauty LM’; and the USA CAMERA CORPORATION produced the ‘PERFEX FIFTY-FIVE’; and that ‘Bertram’ produced a significant 6x9 Reporter camera?!
So there is probably enough gear to produce a couple of hundred videos I reckon!
@@YuvalAloni Thanks Yuval, appreciated. It is timely as I actually recently acquired a LOT of film cameras (no video cameras though) via a liquidation of an amazing private museum collection. Even my tiny slice of it is still overwhelming. The cameras are 1950s to 1990s from about 20 different manufacturers; mainly rangefinders and SLR, with a few folders and a couple of TLRs. Some of the manufacturers I hadn’t heard of before, like Topcor, which as I learned was a SLR leader in its day, briefly ahead of Nikon etc.
I think I probably have enough kit to make a few hundred videos! 🤣
lovely, beautiful work
Thank you so much Ryan 🙏🏻
Great test and review, thanks!
Thanks for watching (:
educational as always
Great video. Thanks. Would love to see some further videos on how you use these lenses. I also own 3 of them but have only used the 55. It really makes some beautiful film without edits.
Thank you Bradley!
The Takumars will pop up in my BTS videos for sure as I do use them quite often now
Great video! Takumars are also my favorite vintage lenses!
Thank you!
What have you shot on them?
@@YuvalAloni I'm not a professional, but I shot my friends wedding, and a couple of my own holidays with Takumar lenses :) I like them a lot
Hey Yuval. I have the exact same set of lenses you have, and I love them, except I have the 35 f2. I use them mainly for photography, but I am dipping my toes into video with them as well. I really enjoyed your video, and the sample footage at the beginning! Cheers from British Columbia, Canada!
Cheers! Thank you for watching 🙏🏻
Hope you enjoy your video journey
Great collection...
Nice Video,
then you can use the Pentax Super Takumars on a BM Ursa12k too, just use the M42 to PL Mount Adapter and ready go, right?
Thanks :)
And yea, I suppose
@@YuvalAloni thank you, i will buy them for sure. These are some Vintage Cinema lenses
Even better with their hoods or a good matte box.
I bet! Light control can be challenging with these
For the algorithm
❤️❤️
Appreciated
Most gracious! Good work. 👍
hey, which camera did you used in this video?
Hey there
I used the BMPCC4K
@@YuvalAloni incredible
@@snowkombat263 🙏🏻🙏🏻
I built a set of these and love them. Would love rehouse them!
Do you know of any good re-housing options currently?
@@YuvalAloni sent you a DM :)

Thank you 🙏🏻
Whats in your collection?

@@fistfulloflenses damn haha
Do you have any in a set? Or mostly individuals
@@YuvalAloni a couple of sets forming, mostly individual, I'm hoping to build a set of Carl Zeiss Jena (zebra) lenses , I figured if your gonna go vintage, then let's really go vintage, at moment I've got the 20 mm f4 flektogon the tessar and the pancolar
@@fistfulloflenses haven’t shot with them yet but heard good things about
Nice collection. Similar to mine, except my 35mm Takumar is an f2.0
Thanks!
Shot anything interesting with yours?
Just photos. When I want to challenge myself I grab the Takumars and an adaptor instead of my native Sony lenses.
Takumar beat Sigma.
מגניב ממש אני חושב לנסות אותן על הפוג׳י שלי
