It’s outside of my hands now as I was just hired to work on the development reel, but yes fingers crossed for them. It’s a good story. Just when you thought it was time to put the Takumars in a box, they pull you back in ;)
As a hobby photographer, I found a M42-Pentax K adapters that are thin enough to achieve infinity focus. I removed the little sheet metal spring used to keep the adapter in place on the camera, then used a drop or 2 of thread lock on the adapter to the lens. Not quite as solid as your setup but it does save me the time of installing and removing the m42 adapter from the Pentax camera mount. For mirror-less camera's just use thread lock when screwing it on a $15 adapter.

Hi Mark, very interesting as always. My current challenge is an extremely stiff early 85mm f1.8 which I’ve failed so far to get anyone to service here in northern England. Part of the issue is that it belonged to my grandfather who died in ‘71 and was only found in my dad’s garage when we were clearing it out. You are inspiring me though to get it properly serviced. The photos I have taken with it are really good, it has the most wonderful and painterly rendering wide open. But the M42 screw mount issue is a real pain because focusing is so incredibly stiff. Obviously 50 years in a box didn’t do the grease any favours.
Did you ever find someone to service your 85mm f1.8, I've stripped and cleaned 135mm f3.5 and 55mm f1.8, relatively straight forward.

Just ordered a Helios 44-2 based on your videos. I’ve only ever invested in the best glass since I started my photography/videography journey, so your videos have definitely flipped my world upside down.
It also made me think about camera advancements in recent years, and if you take out autofocus and uncropped 4K, there hasn’t really been a huge improvement in the last 5+ years .
Really rekindles the passion to shoot!

I have personally worked on so many Pilots for different TV shows or series over the past 30 years in TV production. And yes, most are never bought or picked up. I have a total of 2 pilots that I worked on and that turned into either a show or a series. Of course you have to do your best work and work super hard on the project, but also know that more than likely its all for not.

As for me, I think I'll stay with the M42 mount with adapters to RF. My latest project is taking a lens from 1962 Rangefinder and adapting it for use on my mirrorless R7... It has 4 blades... and is super funkidoodley! (I think I spelled that right...)
I only dabble in development on the superficial production/post production end. I have no skin in the game beyond executing the vision to meet the producers expectations. I think the work is a lot of fun, but development sucks. There are just so many factors outside the story that play into it. It's got to be the most frustrating part of the film/tv career base with so many hours of work never to go anywhere but into a brick wall. The best part about the process in this field is when the project gets finished and broadcast/streamed. Alll that hard work pays off right there, good or a bad experience it doesn't matter, everybody comes together in that moment. NOT the case with development unless you get a green light and that just doesn't happen often enough lol.
The soviet lens I featured at the end there is an OCT-18 mount, but holy crap it's THE WORST mount experience....funny enough that has a big impact on when and IF i decide to ever use it.

So how's about convert an Exakta mount to M42.
It's a threaded ring held into place by three grub screws.
Little the tiny ones in your video.
Adapters cost about £8 UK.
At this point you could convert to LPL with the mount.
To ensure that the screws do not come loose one can use Loctite 577.
Medium-strength, general purpose thread sealant for sealing metal threads.
This would open up medium format lens.
The Carl Zeiss 80mm Flektogon may be or the 20 f4 flek.
A whole new world of pain awaits.
So from 25 miles north of London, be lucky stay safe.
Look great and that's awesome installation is so easy! I've got three FD lenses with Simmod EF mounts. Two of them have the new pro metal mounts, 55mm 1.2 & 24mm 2.8. One has the old style: 70-210 F4. I mount them to my BMPCC 4K with the cine locking version of the Metabones speedbooster. The benefits of a secure connection cannot be overstated, especially if you're using an electronic follow-focus. It took the locking mount, metal Simmod rings and the base foot to truly eliminate all wiggle. Expensive endeavors to be sure, but I'm happy with the results. Now that Simmod no longer offers conversion services, I might look into those Super Takumars. Any idea if converting to EF is as easy? Thanks!
It’s easy yes, those legacy screw can be a pain, but just be careful not to strip. Use the right tools and I would say it’s just as easy

Hi Mark. No thanks to you and a few others, I now have two boxes of vintage lenses now 😅. Some months ago, I got my hands on a near mint SMC Super Takumar 45-125mm F4, and I was so damn surprised that this lens has had no worthy mention on any of my favorite vintage lenses channels, including yours. Maybe it’s the f4…but that lens is so damn good.
F/4 is fine for a zoom lens, I think people don’t see that lens very often or they just aren’t stoked about vintage zoom lenses. Might have to keep an eye out. ✊
Thinking about medium formate the Pentacon 6 Kiev 60 to M42 mount is available.
So even more beautiful glass is available and the cost is not out of the reach of most of us either.

Hello, Sony Hindi Cam NTSC movies can only be played on NTSC cameras or can they be played on PAL cameras as well? If it is possible to play NTSC movies in a PAL camera, please advise which model and number
hi mark! without the pro lock ring, is the lens easily unscrewed like a normal m42 adapter? i noticed the 3 silver set screws, are they locking the adapter to the lens? asking for super-takumar/russian/czj friends. 🤓
Yes it’s still secure. Way better than the screw mount. Those silver screws are a huge pain to put in. But once you get them in they secure the mount nicely! I think Simmod is going to magnetize those screws so it’s a bit easier. It’s just they’re so small.
Hello Mark, thanks to a lot of luck, I got a very rare camera in my hands. It's an ensign multex with a 53mm f1.9 lens. The last one sold for around 43k.

ya it's been a hot minute hasn't it. Doing super well thanks for asking mate. Been focused on other projects that have required a lot of attention and haven't really had much spare time to think/shoot/edit videos for RUclips.

Which 35mm ? The 49mm or 67mm?
49mm. I had the auto Tak 35 which has the 67 front but not adapting that one for video. Strictly a photo lens ✊

Unfortunately, you are correct. We do not do E moutnt conversions at the moment.

I feel like you could just use a normal cheap adapter and some loctite, no?
Lots of cheap adapters but if using theee lenses rigged up, you want solid connection and locking mount gives so torque from focus Mother’s etc doesn’t wiggle the lens in the an adapter. Especially screw mount ones, very easy to unscrew by accident.
@@MarkHoltze I understand, and this solution certainly works, but Loctite applied to the threads (red, perhaps?) could make a semi-permanent hold. Are the focus motors strong enough to dislodge even that? Apologies if I’m suggesting something that’s already been tried and failed!
@Kumofan all good mate. There are lots of ways to rig these at different costs. I think being creative with options is awesome. I personally don’t know if I want to make these permanent. It’s always nice to revert back shoukd the use of the lens change. Especially if I want ti sell them. Way more people using these for photo than video.
