I had no idea when I bought that camera and lens back in the early 80’s that it would ever take the most beautiful photos and videos. But in your talented hands you have created pure art with it. Thanks so much for bringing it back to life and I hope you use it for many years to come ❤
When I first got into Photography after buying my my Lumix GX80 six years ago I was soon tempted into buying primes, and more gear in general. But modern lenses were just too expensive for me, so I soon came across vintage lenses. eBay got hit hard. Old Olympus, Pentax, and canon FD glass was so cheap. I still have my canon FD lenses and enjoy using them every now and then. They have a character like no other. I now use on my Fuji xt2 aswell. Lens technology hasn't really come on very much in the last fifty years cos some of this old kit is just as good as most modern lenses. Glad you're having fun with it. But be warned, it's a rabbit hole you're looking into.
one of my favourite vintage lenses is the jupiter 37A. Super sharp and loads of character. The other one is the CZJ Flektogon, the 35mm f 2.4. Then the Helios.
everything about this video is incredible. the storytelling, the cinematography, the shots, the music. it’s making me feel things I haven’t felt in a long time from photography. really wonderful work
Focus peaking makes hitting focus quickly with a manual lens an absolute dream. You can even see focus approaching your subject as you turn the dial and you can see DoF.
I have a set of Olympus vintage lenses which I really like to use 50mm 35mm and 28mm they make me think when I use them I use the lenses on Fuji cameras APSC and also a Sony full frame they produce beautiful images I have a vintage OM1 Body I use also with them though film is very expensive to use I like to use it still now and again enjoyed the video very much subbed your channel take care Tony.......
Beautiful. I highly recommend the Minolta MD lenses. Totally under the radar and still relatively affordable. The build quality of those is insanely good and the images, specially videos, in combination with modern sensors are unmatched. Also the Pentax K lenses are great. But watch out for oily blades and stuck mechanics on those. I personally would skip Olympus OM glass, in my opinion they don’t have that magic effect. There are radioactive lenses, recognizable by the yellowed glass. The glass contains thorium. You can mitigate the discoloration with UV light, but keep in mind that it can affect the white balance if not treated adequately. I own the Fuji XF´s 18mm, 23mm, 33mm, 56mm and 90mm primes, all f1.4 LM´s but when it comes to video I only use my old lenses.
Another gorgeous video Rich! At Christmas, I had to sell my FujiFilm lenses cos I was short on cash and I ended up buying a £20 adapter to use my Canon FD lenses from my Canon AE-1 on my FujiFilm XT3. As someone who mainly shoots film and often avoids digital, I've got to say it's made the digital shooting experience so much more fulfilling and familiar. The results, in my opinion, are better than the expensive autofocus lenses I was using, and add more of the character I like. I didn't even think to use it on video as I thought there'd be issues focusing on movement, but after seeing this footage in your video I can't wait to have a play. Thanks as always for the inspiration brother xx
Hello, love your work! I inerited a helios 44M-5 and I am interested in investing in an adapter for my canon eosM50...I would appreciate a tutorial on how to work with analog lens on a digital body...
I own one of those Helios. The 44-2 MMZ Belomo. What a lens. I don’t use it much because I find it too narrow at my Fujifilm. It’s almost a 90mm but magnificent rendering and colors. May I suggest a gem for street photography and more wide (I guess one of the widest vintage lenses), the SMC Takumar 24mm f/3.5, more close to 35mm (full frame equivalent) and also a joy to use. Really liked the video. Congratulations
TBH - The modern Voigtländer 58 SL II f1.4 adapted onto fuji - is an amazing lens! all of the tactility of focus-by-touch, and not wired, and a very well balanced focus-throw … oh, and the resulting images - ohh my! this lens is exquisite!
A great video. I enjoyed hearing your perspective on using vintage lenses. It definitely hit home as I am getting more and more into them as well, and I have built a pretty good collection of lenses for my X-T3 and X-S10 bodies. Right now I have a bunch of Takumar lenses, which are outstanding and something you may want to look into. I have a 35 f2, a 55 1.8, an 85 1.9, and a 135 f3.5. All of these lenses are in pristine condition and produce really nice images. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this subject.
Maybe try the Super Takumar 8 ELEMENTS ASAHI PENTAX SUPER TAKUMAR 50/1.4 50mm f1.4 LENS M42 / That's the first version with 8 blades in the diaphragm, very particular character. Serial number under 1.550.000 are the good versions. after they put only 7 blades (and a radioactive coating, named SMC).
My youngest son bought me this lens a year or so ago and I love what it does on my Fuji X-T20. Another favorite of mine is the Konica Hexanon 40mm f1.8. Not great wide open but excellent at F2.0 and anything down to f8.0.
Anche io sono stato preso dalla piacevole scoperta di vecchi obiettivi su x-t4 e tra quelli provati, mi è piaciuto in particolare l'Olympus 50mm f1.8, anche più del f1.4.
Loved the video and the pictures in it. As far as i know M42 has a thread mount? Did you have any difficulties focusing to infinity on your Fuji camera?
Awesome video, very inspiring! I only got a 7artisans 35mm f1.2 lens for my x-pro1 and it's not easy to focus, but manual lenses have something special, character, imperfection. And it slows you down. For good!
Brilliant video! I'm a fuji user and love the idea of old glass. I've used a manual (new) 35mm prime in the past and enjoyed the experience. Maybe I should take another look at what's on offer. Look forward to the next video.
Adapted vintage Olympus Zuiko 50mm f1.8 on Fuji x-t1 using Kodachrome 64 film recipe with auto iso capped at 3200 and min SS 1/60. Digital advantages with an analogue vibe.
@@LifeWorkDreamseven outside of its bokeh it is jam packed with character, its a glorious piece of engineering, technical flaws can add so much to something
Just bought an adapter from Nikon mount to fuji camera. Not sure whether is good idea using film simulation reciepe to pair with vintage lens or just raw file & film simulation from the camera
Great video! Love the color grading 🔥 Had some questions! Was this shot with Flog h265 or h264 10-bit or 8-bit? Or did you use Eterna 8-bit footage straight from camera?
Hey, so i shot everything on the standard colour profile on the XT3 which is Provia i think... in 8-bit h264 and then tweaked the colours in prem. Hope that helps
Cool video, mate! I used to have that lens a year before covid. Was an outstanding lens and force you to slow down in your photography which is an extrabonus. If you can, try it with a portrait session, you would be amazed :) By the way, how many batteries do you use with your XT3 when making this video? haha. I have the same one and I think Im gonna have to buy a bunch of them!
Ah really! Yeah I really enjoyed shooting with it over the last month... When I'm out shooting video I plug the camera into a external power bank and it lasts for about 8 Hours 😂 but yeah the batteries go down fast ✌️
Very talented. Thanks for turning me on to this lens. There's both a human and an art character to the output. Well done!

I really like the Olympus Zuiko line in general but in particular the 50/1.4. I use it as a benchmark for all other lenses.
Very excited to try mine out based on this video --- great shots mate.
I'm currently using a Yashica ml 50mm f1.7 and a Pentax m 135mm f3.5 on my XT5. Both great lenses.
Ah nice John ill have to check them out!
The world looks great through that lense, lovely vid!

Minolta 45mm F2. ‘Pancake’ lens with a wonderful rendering. Currently my favorite. There are some nice reviews online you can read about this lens.

Hey, so i didnt use a simulation i edited them all in lightroom shooting RAW thanks

I'm struggling finding an actual 50mm equivalent vintage for my fuji... a 35mm f2 let s say, or maybe even more open... any suggestion?
Mitakon / 7Artisan / TTArtisan 35mm 0.95. I prefer the Mitakon. Not really "vintage" lenses though. You can try the Minolta Rokkor 35mm 1.8.
I recommend the Nikon AI(S) f2. It’s a killer lens. I wouldn’t choose something more open than f2, it’s often not useable.
