Jonny at his best in inoffensive dry humour - some comments a tad sarcastic - but loved it! Couldn't help giggling to myself on a number of occasions. Thanks to David for his valued contribution and putting up with his 'bad boy' student 🤣🤣 Just my quick throw in on steel vs lead - If everyone has to shoot steel tomorrow - then we all shoot steel on equal terms - end of any conflict really 🤷♂️
My 2 favorite RUclips channels come together again!! When the clays fields are open going to have to take my SxS and O/U out together and have a look see. Great vid as always. Best part is when you put the shades on to answer David’s questions, priceless!!!
Well worth owning a nice old AYA and you can get a decent #4 for 500 quid so why not. Much easier to load in a hurry than an over under, but that's where the advantages end - however they are just a nice thing to own. I have a 1977 sbs beretta - love it..
Great to see you and David together. What they say never the twain shall meet LOL. Was good to see and hope you both do some more together. Maybe its time to get David to travel down South ;-)
Thank You so much for this video !!! I've shot all my life with borrowed guns and have always managed to do very well but watching the two if you get along and watching your teaching style and the lessons taught make me realize just how much I , and EVERYONE would benefit from having lessons !! I've shot everything except side by sides , one day hopefully I'll afford one and then proper training !!!
Well done Johnny. I would go back with my own gun and get a few lessons from him. You would be lethal. I had an instructor who is the best and he made a big difference in my shooting. The cheek is the game maker. I like you aim and mount to my shoulder then bend my head down. Not anymore. Good luck.
A very interesting insight into the differences between the two. Everyone says they are very different, but without being able to explain why, so thank you both. The first time I shot my newly acquired, but very old, side by side, it seemed to hit very easily, almost like it knew what to do, all by itself.
Interesting views from both you guys I shoot a lovely famars sxs and a miroku ou can't imagine being without either of them very different but also very similar in many ways when I started shooting In the 1960's with a cooey single just happy to have something to shoot with you learn with practice I believe just me maybe? Stay safe and well regards to all watching
Good video - I find that I can get away more with sloppy fundamentals on my O/U than I can on my SxS but that when I concentrate on doing the technique properly both are equally effective.
Great video, very informative, I'm getting back into rough and clay shooting after 30 odd years, my last was a Russian Baikal, remember them? I have a Silver pigeon on order at the local dealer, what a difference in weight these days!!
Two men with very different experiences yet both working in the same field (no pun intended) yet both have valid opinions. The difference here is David has the knowledge of the use of the gun where was Johnnie knows the guns positives and negatives. A very worthy video.
I have really enjoyed this video. In the past I’ve shot both a over/under and side by side. I actually found it more challenging to hit a target with the over under. Typically I either over shot or under shot the target. With more practice I probably would have become more aquatinted with the gun and shot it better. The 2 shotguns I shot at that time were Marlin Model 90 and a Savage Model B.
I want to say that 70%of north african hunters shots with side by side guns and it very good .... kids growing up with the side by side guns With my love ❤❤🥰❤🥰❤🥰❤🥰
I thought: shooting ranges are still open in your country? But then I read the description. Ah well, now is indeed a great time to edit that backlog of content. It sure brightens up my day!
Recently acquired a lovely Miroku sxs, only been out of the cabinet once and I couldn't hit a thing :D Unfortunately it'll be a while before I get to put David's tips into practice.
Usually shoot a Browning OU at clays. Sometimes I will take my Geo. Fuller, Damascus hammers. 1890. Reproofed. SBS Light load.. Really enjoy shooting it, so do the OU clay shooters to watch with their Mirokus etc.. And yes, it will break clays at a good average. It's the person at the back of the gun that hits the targets !.
Excellent video Johnny. Just lately have tried alternating between my Beretta clay gun and my Aya 25, at my local clay shoot. I agree there is a world of difference between the two. If I stick to one or the other week on week my scores climb into the 40's ex 50. When i alternate 35 ex 50 is good. I can shoot well with either gun and they both fit but the shooting style defo needs to change between the guns. E.g a long quartering incoming bird I track all the way in and break the clay seeing a little lead with the OU. With the Aya the gun is down as it comes in and i pick my kill point mount and shoot and watch it break with no apparent lead at all. If I tried that with the Beretta I would miss most of the time. I already have shooting withdrawl symptoms due to our clay grounds closing because of the virus. Lord knows what I will be feeling by June. Keep up the good work. Regards Steve Barraclough
I love TSC, TGS lost me on the wellies. I couldn't trust what you were sayin anymore. I got a box of Le Chaemuex's I never wear. I wear xtra Tuff insulated (aka Alaskan Slippers), those are awesome, and then LaCrosse Snake boots for warm wet weather. - I just had to edit this, so I learned to shoot my side by side from his videos and as I learned I found myself saying "just there" "just there", so here he talked about positioning the O/U. I raised the stock up to my cheek bone and low and behold, the gun followed "where i was looking" just like he said in this video. TSC rocks. I was on target again and again without aiming, the gun was were i was looking. that's why i love my sxs so much, i never miss with it.
O&U shoots under barrel first as it is more distant of your eye and if a problem occurs you're more protected. The side by side shoots the right barrel first as it is more distant of your eye.
I have never shot a sbs but I shoot a citori cx white 30" (American 525 mid rib) with adjustable comb and I shot my dad's 725 field 28" and the difference on the skeet field on the speed and snappiness of the field o/u is so different compared to a proper clay gun and I think that is just the nature of the beast you buy guns for a purpose the lighter snappier models are for the field and the heavier models are for the sporting clay's course imo
Great vid good to see you both together airing different veiws, I shoot S/S & O/U and they need different approaches to shoot then as brought up in the clips .
I personally have had coaching sessions that so confused me and degraded my score, that I gave up on them. It is good to learn the basics, but the ultimate road for success is practice and more practice. For a new shooter his biggest enemy is being discouraged, and having to much confusing advise.
Have issues with bottom barrel first game shooting with an 0/U.Find it both quicker and easier to reload top barrel.Same shooting a clay pigeon flush or simulated game day.
Shotaway Films Jon thats always going to be the case due to the fact to access the bottom barrel you have to open the breach further than a SxS to eject and reload.
It's almost the same. Match speed of target. Pass it. Pull the trigger and still hold exit of pipea before target. Hard to do that with suhl fortuna...
Very good video and on point considering In wanting to get a sxs. Good to see you guys having some banter. Was David suggesting you dont look down the rib of the sxs ? Or was the comb low enough that you could still see down the rib ?
I was seeing a lot of rib and barrel and relying on hand eye a lot more using Davids style. Personally i would have preferred seeing a flatter picture, but i didn't want to argue with the instructor more than i already did!!
Nice to see the bird type shooter has a "vrs". As a 3 gun fan im tired of the 223 vs 556 vs7 62 debate. I’ve always wondered as someone who deep into the firearm world in the UK (I.e. operating a shop) what their opinions are on the gun laws in the US are? Are they jealous or do they think Americans are crazy?
I live in Canada so I know this is kinda out of left field. But here the feeling is kinda both. On the one hand I extremely envious of your ability to defend yourselves. Self defense is non existent here. On the other hand, your guys infatuation with the AR or AK, etc, platform style rifles is just bonkers to me. Not saying they should be illegal of course, but they are not the end all be all. They are fairly impractical (imo) for most civilians, even for defensive purposes. The fact that anyone can get their hands on one (yes I am aware that is a gross over simplification) is equally insane. I've always felt that international gun communities tend to be more well grounded. Perhaps that is because we have less to work with, thus facilitating more creativity and professionalism?
David, your point about lifting your head is an interesting one! Over the 40 years I’ve spent in the gun trade I’ve noticed quite a few items. Guns from the Edwardian era when driven game shooting was the norm all had higher combs to obtain the sight picture your suggesting can be obtained by lifting your head. Modern manufacturers lowered comb heights so the shooter has to adapt to fit him or herself to the gun. When I was involved in the 2nd generation Winchester guns in the mid 80’s we offered 2 comb heights and the U.K. gun trade slammed the higher comb height saying it would never sell! Funny thing was within 2 months the higher comb outsold the lower one by double! If you look flat down a barrel your pattern is not where your looking. If your gun comb height makes you look slightly down on the rib where you look is where your shot pattern is! I’ve seen many so called coaches get this so very wrong and hinder the shooters development and future enjoyment. Keep up the good work
@Hunt International Stuart would know as a very fine shot with a wealth of experience and impeccable style. Why you never took up coaching is a mystery given trend of instructors in the field I have witnessed for some years now.
I've been shooting SxS doubles perhaps a little longer than you and can say with some certainty that you are absolutely correct. The shooter's head and neck position are also affected by the drop at heel. It's an important consideration in selecting a gun for a shooter.
The more you think the more you will miss....if the barrels are straight and its the right cast for yourself the gun and man will intercept the target ....ohh and one gun for all seasons and reasons
First thing I do when I get a new Browning? Remove that stupid BROWNING sticker so it doesn't gum up and get scratched, leaving uneven wear patterns on the barrel. This does make me want to get a side-by-side....
Doesn't Dave say/imply aiming actually interferes with the goal of letting the brain make the shot? Did I hear that? If so, the O/U has no intrinsic superior value in comparison to the SXS. But it is heavier and uglier, both outstanding qualities in a hunting instrument! It would appear that fashion and a failed appreciation for the difference between a rifle and a shotgun, collaborate to influence the training away from the real goal/outcome, instinctive shooting for which the gun configuration is really irrelevant except for the fact that different guns are different. Competition may not have improved the breed if the purpose continues to be shooting real birds? With regard to the current popular forms of persuasion ( the conversation w regard to lead shot) It would be an improvement if we were to recognize that our fellow man is a human being with an intellect and move beyond will/coercion or propaganda/lying/emotional bribes. Great Video!
'What did you do wrong johnny'

Smartarse 😂
"So what do you think you did wrong there?"
"I missed it, David"
Wise words, my man. Wise words
great vid and great to see 2 channels working together. some great advice from both of you.
One of the best videos ever on TGS and TSC! Great job guys!
Really really good to see 2 ambassadors for the sport working together👍🏻 thank you both!
go meet David first
That a great video👍 something different and good to see Both TGS & TSG working together.
Hope to see more like it 👍

Great video. I also agree with Jonny’s comments about the handling of plastic and lead phase-out.
Enjoyable video and a great looking shooting ground.
A great video and very welcome at the present time. Thanks a lot guys.
Still prefer my 16 bore side by side , but great video, explaining it well 👍

I was lucky enough to beat David on our last visit with his gun. May not let him forget it either!

Very helpful will definitely try some of these techniques out!! 👍🏼
Recently acquired a lovely Miroku sxs, only been out of the cabinet once and I couldn't hit a thing :D Unfortunately it'll be a while before I get to put David's tips into practice.
I feel you pain, I have my first shotgun, an AYA Yeoman sxs waiting too. Managed to get a few pigeons before all this went down, but not enough!
Still banging out quality content, even during quarantine

Still love my Webley and Scott 700 😎
Fantastic video, seeing the same targets , different guns, put things into perspective a lot more.
got a lesson due with David after things have improved. Seems like I’m going to have a lot to learn. Great video!

O&U shoots under barrel first as it is more distant of your eye and if a problem occurs you're more protected. The side by side shoots the right barrel first as it is more distant of your eye.
Seeing the UK folks debate is probably one of the best things I've ever seen...
Especially when its the intricacies of game shooting...

What i liked the most about this video besides both shooters marksmanship, is Johnny's skeet vest!😂😂
This was great - just bought a side by side to compliment my O&U and will take the advice from this video.
The main consideration is over and under versus side by side the barrels converge one vertically the other horizontally so the trajectory is affected
Great vid good to see you both together airing different veiws, I shoot S/S & O/U and they need different approaches to shoot then as brought up in the clips .

Love both you guys. Get together and tell your leaders to bugger off about lead.
Here's a question. If you were to fit a sxs with an adjustable comb (provided good fit otherwise) could you get it to perform like your o/u?
With a high rib for sure
As I matures, I have fell more and more in love with side by side...
You must be one with the side by side! Great video!
6:53 -- Johnny why do you always shoot maintained lead with an over and under?
I normally always shoot maintained lead too, but had my first shooting lesson the other month and was heavily criticised for it, for not shooting follow through enough

Very nice video.
What is situation with converters in the U.K that allow your shot gun to fire 2.2 rim fire bullets, or 9 mm rounds, licence wise?
A bit of an impossible one to get a variation for
