Do not become one of the flippers that are ruining this hobby for the folks who actually care about watches and not just resale value!💪🏻💪🏻 I ordered the same watch at 2 ADs and got it from one first and was in a similar position, but decided to cancel my order from the other AD proactively (before getting a call and then declining it). Though I have worn it there, just to let them know that I dis in fact buy it someplace else, as a little „you snooze, you lose“😄 nobody asked, so maybe they didn’t notice, but perhaps she looked up my purchase history after our chat and did notice. It doesn’t really matter. And all these games and things we have to think about are case in point why flippers are ruining the fun.
I definitely won’t turn into that. That’s not the fun side of watches 😊 Some people had told me I shouldn’t have done that because it would seem like i’m wasting their time. But I hope they can see my integrity by removing myself from the other list, just to be clear and open on what I do want to buy. The watch enthusiasts are becoming back in power from these ad games. So hopefully the flippers move into another thing!

This is my philosophy. I am not buying something that I don't want to get something that I do want. I bought a datejust 41 and later I wanted a OP 41 mm silver. My AD said it would be 3 years before I could get it, but in the meantime, he wanted to sell me a bunch of tudors to get my spend history up. I love Tudor but I didn't want one at the time. I told him no and that i will just go to the gray market to get the watch i want
I would have definitely bought the submariner and flipped it. I was waiting for a GMT Batman oyster for over 3 years and got the call last week. Yes I did buy it and it’s amazing ❤
I agree at the current moment. With my SA’s before, I disagree. It was as much business motivated as it needed to be. But in the middle of it was pure. I’m confident of that. Initially i know the relationship is, they supply i buy. With Rolex its a bit different and the pendulum swings in favour of Rolex, but I knew that and i don’t think i sold my self to them in order to get what i want, and i don’t think they went out of their way to get me what i want. But with good communication and honesty, the time frame was good, respectful and genuine.
Good choice. It's always the right thing to accept an allocation when wishing for that allocation. It's a good feeling too I'm sure to know that they are in communication with you to know which model(s) you are eyeing. Not to mention the fact that you probably earned some major brownie points denying what is probably the most desired of Rolex models.

To be fair, many people would panic buy Rolex, especially a Submariner. People would also feel that if they say no, it will damage the “relationship” So it’s a good tactic from them as a store 😂 Just didn’t work on me.
Hassle. And then i’m doing something which others do that has made me wait longer for the watch I want. I had no regrets after coming off the phone so all good.
I've said no to the 36mm explorer because it would have been too small for my wrist. I think you made the right decision. You should buy the watch that you really want.
I'm not an expert on Rolexes, but I understand that many people buy them to resell them at a higher price. You just proved that you're not one of those people.
I did the same thing. I wanted a 126000 and they put me on the list for a DJ. I said fine, but I only wanted the smooth bezel, blue dial, oyster bracelet. They called me for a fluted black on jubilee and I had to turn it down. Like you, I can’t pretend to be excited. And if I went through with it I fear they may think I’m a flipper.
Thats me right now. I love the 120 click gmt pre ceramic. But i also loved the explorer ii pre 42mm. So, modern it is for me. They will become neo or vintage in my possession.

I can vouch for the Explorer II, it’s un real. One of Rolex’s best modern watch which is close to what they use to be in regards of looks and practicality. The 42mm size id the only thing different, however, the size is great in my opinion for legibility.
I said no 3 times already 🙄, they always call when I’m down on funds and don’t have my piece when I on a surplus lol. But in all seriousness, good you stand your ground!

Hearing you say you prefer the sub more made me think oh no ha! What’s your views on the gmt master and sub? Which gmt do you have? I think the only downside of the gmt master is the polished links in the oyster or jubilee. Everything else seems like a dream (black and grey).
I also got that Exp 40mm, was asking for that GMT Bruce Wayne as well, but no luck. But when I saw this watch I told myself this is great looking simple elegant watch, I will get it then. I was also offered a discontinued DJ and of course Sky dwellers hehe. I'm still in line for that bruce wayne but I did have a gmt from Camden watch company which is okay for now

We have very similar taste! I got the green Sub but also want the Bruce Wayne on jubilee. Good for you for showing the AD exactly what you want. Plus, there’s no profit these days in flipping a black sub. You would probably just get your money back after paying tax.
Definitely wasn’t going to panic buy to maintain a relationship. The green is preferred as a submariner. But I want the gmt master ii. Which i was open to sharing with them. When I go in tomorrow i will let them know clearly. So next time i can be excited to get “the call” I’m also sad in a way that i experience a call and wasn’t over the moon, begging to come in store immediately!

Just go grey if you want the Black/Grey GMT or green Sub as they both trade for 30%-40% over retail. As a consequence they’ll unlikely sell you one without games unless you are really big spender.
They sold me two before, that supposedly i couldn’t register for with no spend history. So i’m happy to wait. Happy to go in there often as the store is near to me and happy to not even ask about it every time i go in. Currently i’m going in to ask if one is available to try on or to try on the full rose gmt and dream a little ha!

You did the right thing for sure mate… the time and effort to flip it in this market would have been stress… and that’s a private sale. Dealers are paying retail at max these times. As you say, you got 2 watches you have already that cover all bases 🏆 plus your AD now knows you’re only here for the pieces you want which is a good move

Haha! I hope not, i still have the watches i bought with them and my old SA’s and the security guard know i’m not. But i guess this is why it’s good to have a relationship with the AD. So they’re happy and trust you. Both times i had that relationship with my AD, when the watch was coming they told me early. And they also knew i only want what i want. But they left :(

I have had a bigger collection before with omega and grand seiko including. During that time i realised what i want, like and practically use. Submariner doesn’t fit in. The green bezel is a different story due to have a white explorer ii and black explorer, so the green will add to the couple already. But i can find reasons why it’s good or bad, really i want the gmt master ii. If they called me for that tomorrow, i’ll be nervous going in store to collect it. The black submariner gave me no such vibe.
I would have called to cancel my interest as soon as I knew I no longer wanted it. Seems you have wasted their time if they had to call you. I wonder if they are less likely to call people if they have turned watches down when called previously

They described it as the early you register for the piece the better, and when i can register for the green. They swap it over for the same waiting time. But then my SA left. And the people who took over, don’t know what the last SA done. So they called me for the watch! Hopefully this makes more sense now. I had no intention of waiting for something I don’t want. I followed advice i thought would help me.
