    As a young man,during hunting season, dad used to call that skunk cabbage. Not any reference to smell,,,,
    if however you step on one,in the fall,you will scare off any pursued game,due to a very loud crunch.You'll find yourself "skunked".

    • @DinaFalconi
      @DinaFalconi  7 месяцев назад

      Thanks for your comment. Although, this plant doesn't make much of a sound when you step on it. I wonder if the plant you are referring to is this: gobotany.nativeplanttrust.org/species/symplocarpus/foetidus/

      Thanks for responding to such an old video. So,I live on the west coast (eastern high Sierras).The plant you showed on that video grows in our alpine zones,at 6500' up to about just shy of 8000'.
      The fall months get pretty dry,so they certainly make quite a crunch when stepped on.I will be harvesting some this fall,during the dried phase I've described,namely for its seeds.
      I am enjoying your vids,have subbed,and looking forward to more of them. Thanks again!

    Oh my goodness, Mullein grows everywhere in the interior British Columbia's mountainous terrain. Here in MA where I now live, it is not found in such an abundance as back home. A few years ago I dug up the roots of a plant that I found under a powerline and planted it in the gravel of my driveway. It came up and I harvest and dehydrate the leaves with such joy.
    My daughter was hiking in B.C. along a rocky cliff and took photos of a cluster of 6 foot high plants that were of interest to her. She sent me the photo and I was amazed to see that they were mullein. It is amazing that they grow in cracks of rocks with no obvious nutrients. THANK YOU for bringing a moment of the west back to me.

    I was saying in my head the word "dirt" just as you said it out loud. Felt nice to accurately predict what you would say it smelt like. This plant has just given me my first ever true interest in herbalism which ultimately lead me to your video. Not to say I'm a novice on all things green, however my little veggie garden was only for a summer hobby. And my flower beds make my yard, me.... but I've never much studied (aside from common known) foraged, or gathered my own herbs and medicines. Tonight, I remembered that I as a human, was once much more in tune with my connectivity to nature than I can recall in this lifetime. I guess I'll have to pick up where I left off, :-) thanks

      @DinaFalconi  2 года назад

      Hello Darline,
      You can find mullein throughout the world. Its growing range: United States, Europe, South America, Asia, and more
      Its native range is Europe, North Africa, and Asia (Azores, Europe to Siberia and W. Himalaya), but it has naturalized around the world.
      Look for it in anthropogenic sites = man-made or disturbed habitats = roadsides, railroad tracks, where earth moving equipment has been; gardens, rocky outcroppings, meadows, and fields.
      Soil: prefers well drained, sandy, dry soil, but tolerates many.
      Sun: full to part shade.
      USDA growing zones: 3-9.
      If you'd like to buy it, you can find it at your local herb store or online at Jean's Greens or Mountain Rose Herbs.
      Hope you can forage for your own!
