Had a coworker one time that insisted on working even though she had pneumonia. You could hear her (trying to) breath from the next room. I gave her some Mullein and told her how much to use. She said that she didn't believe in "all that herbal hooey" but took it anyway.
Later that night (when she should have been going to the hospital) she got desperate and made some tea and drank it.
She came in to work the next morning raving about how well and how quickly it cleared her lungs up. She's been after me for more herbal remedies ever since.
Remember, before "modern medicines" all you had was foods, plants and herbs.

      creativitycatalyst,
It can be smoked as a cigarette or in a pipe for quick but short term relief (within 5 to 15 minutes for 1 to 2 hours). Or drank as a tea that takes effect in 20 to 40 minutes and lasts around 4 or more hours.
Start with 1 Tbsp of leaves (dry or fresh) in 1½ cup of water boiled down to 1 cup. CAUTION Filter it before drinking. It won't hurt you. But it will give you a dry, scratchy throat for a while.
I have never heard of anyone over dosing, so you can increase the amount you brew and how often you drink it with little worry.
As a tea, it's also good for lower back pain and "stiff joints". I, myself, have never used if for back pain or joints; but I have had people tell me that it does help.
Hope this helps and happy harvesting.

A random lady walked up to me and told me she had a cough for months that wouldn't go away and tried mullien and it cleared it right up. She was so happy she wanted to tell anyone who would listen. I didn't know her and immediately took is as a sign to remember the herb. Sometimes God shares information via strangers.

An native elder taught us about the herb. He was told to smoke it - NOT RECOMMENDED FOR MOST- so it would make him cough up the crap from the fire. I work as a nurse in an area of the country where a lot of our patients live away from the city, and have a semi off grid lifestyle. I've had patients for years talk about the benefits of mullein tea, even comparing it's beneficial effects on some infection diagnosis (usually ear infections or a bronchial issue) to some of the strongest antibiotics we would prescribe for those conditions. And most often, when we follow up with our rural patients they have quick improvement in their symptoms and are remarkably in better condition on their follow up visit (when we can get them in for those :D ).

They would test me and then do nothing but order more tests. I was to the point I was looking for a hospice. (Large city w/specialized lung hospice.) After watching Dina's other video about mullein I tracked down some mullein tea. After a week I could breathe again. I got to the point I was forgetting to use my inhalers. Mullein is nothing but miraculous. I still drink the tea and always will. There is no lung patient that is too far gone that mullein won't make more comfortable. I swear by it.

Just want to share gratitude to Earth Mother and Mullein, to Dina for making this video, and to my Higher Power for leading me here. I am two months free of nicotine use and smoking, and I just recently have developed a cough. The doctor gave me prednisone and an inhaler but neither seem to be helping and today i started to panic a little. I have some hope now that Mother Mullein can help me. Thank you, thank you! PS I have the book you made with that talented illustrator and attended a gathering where we foraged for herbs and practiced drawing them. You are a wonderful teacher!

Xrays say clear lungs. Tried Mullen tea didn't seem to work but l might give this a go. Laurie l hope you notice a difference soon. It can be really scary when you breathe won't come. I really find drinking lots of warm water helps to thin the phlegm. Coffee black or Earl Grey tea is an awesome bronchilator as well. By now you would think a cure for the different types of asthma would have been found. Maybe there's too much money to be made off the sick. I've also cut out dairy, peanuts, refined sugar, wheat . Made some what of a difference. But drinking lots of warm drinks def helps. Get well soon. ❤

It's also a good "pioneer" plant. So even if you don't use it medicinally, by all means leave it there and let it do its job helping to improve the soil. From what I've read it will hang around for a few years and when its soil building work is done, it just sort of fades away and lets a new wave of other plants come in.

Dina, I received my bag of mullein from Amazon a few days ago. Immediately did your recipe for the tea. It's not a bad tasting tea. I'm at the tail end of a respiratory infection (again) and want this to end. So I drank the tea. It has helped with the residual shortness of breath. The doctor told me even though you kill bacterial pneumonia or bronchitis with meds, there is still a debris field in your lungs. Great.
The first night I was up all night coughing up mucus. So much my throat was sore. The next day I lived in the bathroom. That's all I'll say.
I would think mullein is also some sort of diuretic and maybe has a laxatative effect. I'm going to keep drinking it though. I want my life back.

FWIW, I make mullein tea in our espresso maker. I put a tea bag of some kind of tea in the bottom of the little stainless steel coffee holder to filter out any of the fuzz on the leaves (Lipton Black Tea bags works fine, I just remove the string with tag on them) and then I smash as much dried and crumbled mullein leaf as I can on top of the tea bag in the coffee holder. Then I run just few ounces of water through the espresso maker and then let the heated mullein just sit and steep for a bit, like at least 10 minutes. Then I run a full carafe of water through it to make a full big cup of tea, and I add a teaspoon of raw local honey to it.
You can really feel the mullein tea after you drink it. It's a very slight but lovely euphoric feeling. But you really do have to make it like I've described to feel it, or drink about five or more cups of it if you're using tiny tea bags that hold just a teaspoon of tea in them, and that won't taste near as good.
So, the main take away is I use a lot of mullein for just one cup of tea. It tastes a lot better and, as I've mentioned, you can really feel it, and it feels really good.
I'll add that the mullein I'm using right now is now over a year old and it's still very good. I harvested a bunch of mullein and dried it and crushed in up and filled several big ziplock bags with it and put them in our kitchen cupboard. So it will last a long time. I recently read it will lose it's potency over time but it's pretty slow if it does.

Yeah mullein is so beneficial. I remember when I through a lung scare and needed to find out a way to help heal my lungs. Too many years of smoking cigarettes. I was taking the supplement but I'm a huge believer of using the herb themselves freshly made tonics or teas. God bless I pray we all get to healthy living myself included. God bless 🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲❤️❤️❤️

Best to pick the leaves higher up on the stalk on 2nd year plants so the seeds are still able to spread and the medicine is still potent. As the plant grows taller the larger lower leaves produce less and less medicinal properties and focus on vegetative growth and photosynthesis

(I'm a former smoker & was diagnosed with emphasyma in the 90s) My breathing only got really bad a few months ago, hence, the Mullein tea regime. lol. I'm not a gardener & wouldn't recognize it if I found it in my soup, so I bought some on Amazon. I've been making a cup of tea (1 heaping tbsn & cup of boiling water) 2x/day. I've only let it steep from 15-30 mins. Now that I've watched you, I feel like I may be missing out on some benefits, so might have to approach this daily ritual a bit differently. @@jennirenfer2578 - it can be ingested, just be sure to use food safe Oil of oregano and not essential oil of oregano. You can make your own Oil of oregano by taking quality fresh (or dried) clean and dry (must be dry or it will mold!) oregano and stuffing a canning jar (doesn't have to be a big one) full but leave about an inch, or so, from the top, then fill the jar with a quality food oil (olive oil is a good choice). Put the lid on it and place in a cupboard (not too warm and not cold), for several days (like two weeks) but be sure to shake the jar once a day. Strain your now infused oil into a clean dry jar and use sparingly (a few drops at a time!) until you know how it affects you. Best of luck to you!
