- Splitting up some Poplar with the @EastonmadeWoodSplitters 37D with attached conveyor. Poplar isn't the best firewood, but it works great for campfire bundles and recreational burning.

Poplar dries quickly Dan so good chance it will be ready to sell later this year. Love the box wedge. Takes all the work out of splitting.
Absolutely beautiful rounds of poplar. Splits perfect with minimal waste.
I heat with poplar, yeah its go-fer wood (put some in and go-fer more) but when its what you have its what you burn.
It would be interesting to see what the moisture content of that wood will be 6 months from now. Keep one of those bigger splits near the top row when it gets stacked. In 6 months, split in half with a hatchet or an axe. Then measure the moisture content. Another poster stated it may be dry by the Fall.
I might check it by end of Summer and see if it's ready to go. The only downside is if it is ready after 6 months it'll be going into the Winter/heating season so won't be many people having campfires.
@@Back40Firewood That sounds like a better plan to check it earlier.
How to make work fun, Eastonmade 37.D
Yes Dan will make great Campfire Wood. It's has like 25% Alcohol by content. My Dad and I used to Cut it Down and First used it to Burn in our Fireplace. Burns very Fast when Dried. I am going out today to do about 10rounds, Oak and Locust. Bringing in and Splitting with my Splitter Downstairs. Thinking of Selling some Bundles on the Side. Not to Much but just enough to make a little money on the Side. Probably not this Year, but next. Keep up your Great Video's my Friend. Ron from the Woodyard in Duanesburg NY.
At least the carport was safe from flying bark this time around lol.
Bill
Another great video Dan..
Hi Dan I See Easton Made 37 D Still Goes right Threw it and I See in the back round your Covering the Tops of your Firewood Good Move from keeping it from Getting Wet 👍
It will be paper light and starting to rot by next year. It maybe soaked at the moment but I would want it all sold by this fall if it was mine. Not a popular fan at all but do mix it in occasionally...
I probably will check in by end of summer. I've had in the past where after over a year under the bark was still wet...the bark will fall off when you pick the piece up and under is still as wet as can be, like you said just rotting away.
Nice! Can’t beat fast self lubricating wood like that!! I think you need a bar stool to sit on next to that splitter😂👍👍
LOL...self-lube wood....Ohh boy! 🤦♂️🤷♂️🤣 I'd need 2 bar stools, one for me and one for the Mesa XL...hahaha
Nice to mix in some poplar in along the way, 37D took care of that in no time!!
It does make for a good mix for bundles and yeah, the 37D didn't really have to work too hard with these rounds...lol
hi there well done .best to all john
Wasn,t long splitting that up. Great rig.
Dan,it’s just not fair that you had to do two jobs in this video doing the splitting and also moving the rounds to the 47d😮😊❤
I know, I was thinking the same thing...unfortunately she had to work this weekend so I was on double duty in the woodyard...haha
Dan - You ever burn mulberry? Wondering what you think?
I have some seasoning but haven't burned any before. I heard it really likes to spark and throw embers.
Poplar has a odd smell to it & I've noticed it doesn't keep for very long & starts rotting pretty quick
Poplar can really hold the moisture. Looks great going through the 37D. Appreciate all the support Dan
The 37D was sending those rounds through like a slip-n-slide...lol. Looking forward to see ya down in Ohio at the Expo!
@Back40Firewood the expo should be a lot of fun. Really looking forward to it.
Poplar split this fine drys fairly quick
Cottonwood here in Washington state is just as bad for being wet.
Douglas Fir leaves sap all over the beam. Oh well, it all goes away eventually.😉👍
Yep...it all eventually goes away. Just like the little rust spots that show up on the beam. Push a few rounds through and they're gone and looking back to new...haha
Wood is wood Dan😂😂 popular is considered a " hardwood" too, believe it or not 💪
When it gets dry it is hard
So what you're saying is you've dreamed about it?
@@Back40Firewood 😂😂😂
I have a bu ch of poplar as well waiting for weather to break so can have some fires on the weekends
Do you really wipe down the beam after every wet round? I’ll spray WD-40 after a splitting session, but I don’t go as far as you, must be an Eastonmade thing… 😉 😊😂
LOL...no, that was just for demonstration/video purposes to show how much there was. 😀
Faster than a Speeding Train! its Super Dan! The Man With Steel🪵🇺🇸
Hahahaha....I was gonna put on the thumbnail - 'Speed & Power, and the log splitter ain't too bad either!' 🤣😆
Whats for lunch?
Left over pizza from Friday night...lol
A nice coating of paraffin or even a ski wax would water proof that thing.
Lovin your channel!
I run a tree service/firewood business while I finish high school and love seeing this content.
Thanks...appreciate the comment and welcome to the Back 40 Wood Hound community.
I like how many options you guys over there have with what wood you can sell for different purposes! Once you mention softwood in my area, people will purchase it for kindling but that's it!
Id love to see that split some red gum... I don't think it could handle it but I'd love to know
I had some huge rounds of poplar going through my Wallenstein splitter over the last few days. I can affirm they’re pretty moist when split open 😂
Good vid Dan. That stuff would be great for a campfire.
What wedge are you using?
Seven way
That's the 7 way box wedge.
Howdy dan
Poplar splits nice, but like you said it's campfire wood. Makes great targets for axe/hatchet throwing
Oh I never thought of that, I should've cut a few thick cookies from the base and tossed a few hatchets at it.
I like Aspen and pine for campfires . I don’t think it is anymore messy then Oak for splitting
It does make good fire pit wood...nice and light but does burn up a bit quick...lol
Well I have a few cords of it so it don’t matter
