Enemy health not going up with difficulty is massive. It's always been such a cop out in many games.
yeah it just forces you to take skills so you can end up one or two shotting enemies which really reduces the build versatility, I dont mind the damage I take going up, but tanky enemies are just annoying.
I really despise when a games "hard" difficulty says something like, "take 40% more damage / do %40 less damage". Nice to know the devs idea of difficulty isn't about smart AI, but running your patience.
cop out COP out POLICE [Jacket is now in police custody]
It’s more amazing since that means overkill doesn’t have to balance a weapon for the highest difficulty, rather just make it viable enough in its own way
That's good, I always wanted OD to be just Death Wish but with some different enemies and variants to kick it into higher gear. like say PDTH taser variants that don't reload your weapon, cloakers that cuff you for 60 seconds and prevent inspire, shields that cover for a squad, wandering snipers (which we got now I see) and such. Something that tests your knowledge of enemies and spawns, map knowledge, and general game sense instead of just lol damage up and no fall off

New payday 2 video before payday 3?
They better keep the enemy voice lines, I want the Bulldozer to scream threats and insults at me while he bullcharges
23:00 Ok, I like that there's going to be a specific police unit that tries to sabotage your objectives. In Payday 2 every grunt can stop the download or turn off the fuses. The fact that in Payday 3 you're going to be able to see which enemies are going to sabotage your shit is going to make it easier to kill them before they do it and make it less frustrating.
They had that in payday 1 iirc, only dozers could close off the water in counterfeit
@@catuluj4385Payday 2 didn't do some of the classics justice tbh.
Biggest feature I hated was the fact enemies just had to be in a certain radius to turn off certain objectives.
Counterfeit was exceptionally buggy, if a sniper is on the roof of the house where you get the hose, the water could turn off which made zero sense. Not to mention the fact in PD2 all an enemy has to do is walk past an interactable objective and boom, you gotta go fix it. LOTS of running around on some of the classic heists because of buggy AI mechanics.
Come on lads get that power up again!
The difficulty tweaking the AI and forcing the player to do more with the same amount of time already makes me hyped. All other changes are things that can be tweaked as time goes on but I'm really happy that we're moving away from bullet sponge enemies.
They call that a difficulty tweak

Bullet sponge enemies? besides dozers all enemies die to like 3-4 bullets on DS
@@unlucky6712 yeah idk how people think DS has hp sponge enemies. I'm assuming they speak of dozers or miniguns but like, if you're playing on a high difficulty you should know how to make a good build. And even then, there's still quite a bit of variety and it's not as limited as people think. There's a lot of ways to get dmg increases to make quick work of everything. Miniguns can die in seconds and dozer AI in general isn't very threatening
With games like Payday, it's always pretty hard to release a successor that the community accepts and enjoys due to the fact that the game has been around for so long. But looking at the things I've seen in this video, it looks pretty promising. Sure, there are going to be things that many people will dislike, but that's just the nature of things.
Wasn't the entire linux part of community screwed though?
@@judi1009with pd2, yes and that does suck, and is honestly a shitty move for them to do.

I hope Shade is not just well acted but also has a personality, that's what got us loving Bane in the first place, not that he sounded professional or like an actual mastermind, but that he'd comment on chains being in a fucking pickle, Vlad making us steal 'NUKES!?!?!?', not just giving us our objective and commenting on special forces tactics, but also being a part of the team and having his own thoughts and things to say about something.
Thing is, when devs understand that they try to... force it for the character. This moment she's a cold blooded tactician and at this she yells at a contractor for not tellung us that we're stealing from some prime-minister over some cupboard or something - they better not lean in too hard into one another, i hope they also keep the anticipation/loud variation for voicelines, when in stealth people would whisper to someone or tell guard to hit the floor with calming voice (best "offender" example for this - clover, calm before yelling at the top of her lungs on loud)
@@alpha-tomahawk532thats what Bain was originally anyways
Yeah I hope they don't just turn her into a cod voiceover, "They're on the ____" "Guys, get to _____" and that's it. Been playing payday the heist recently in the hype of payday 3 and it sounds like it's taking much more inspiration from the heist than payday 2. Especially with it being more gritty, heist being a spectacle rather than some small jewelry store, a single dozer being able to wipe a team if their not coordinated, and so on. Although with the double barrel shotgun shooting three shots in the trailer it shows that the payday 2 goofyness is still there it's just in the background (for launch at least).
Dark and griddy
Its impressive how it seems that every complaint the community had from 2 was resolved when making the sequel.
-Skills no longer force you into using a specific type of weapon
-Objectives are more engaging
-Stealth is more fun
-Hostages are now a core mechanic of the game
-The game is more difficult in a smart way instead of making enemies sponge bullets with more damage.
-Team Cooperation is a requirement and not a second thought
-Way more stable Engine
Let's hope it lives up to the hype.

I'd love to see a kind of return to Payday The Heist. Gritty, aggressive, and where you feel like you are actually struggling. I remember in PDTH, ammo was a big concern the whole time and we'd deliberately pick our shots more mindfully. I'm not saying return to PDTH, but I'm saying they should try to make fighting an actual fight.
I mean he does say it feels like a beatdown on the player and the team XD
Good news, because from what I've seen it really seems like they're going back to PDTHs design philosophy, especially after watching TheKknowleys analysis of his time with the beta.
it definitely has a much darker, grittier artstyle and it takes itself more seriously, but we still have the loveable humor and goofiness from PD2. It takes a much more tactical and slow paced approach to the gameplay that makes you think about what you're doing, and especially on higher difficulties makes you use cover, callouts and grenades. individual heavy enemies are actually a significant threat again like in PDTH, and there's a proper focus on heisting that was completely lost with payday 2s later heists.
The quality over quantity approach they're taking with only 8 heists at launch is a lot more similar to the first game too, and it looks like it's paying off- they look incredible, and like a big step above pd2s launch heists.
im glad, thats what I really wanted in pd3 is a return to pdth. pd2 felt like it went too bonkers as the years kept going.
Overkill No Mercy is where boys became men, excited to see that the gameplay footage looks more like that kind of experience.
Holy shit they actually made Stealth fun
It only took a decade, but man I’m actually glad about it
Yeah, the stealth actually looks good this time. Being able to do stuff in casing mode is awesome for me. Being able to close the bank's window shutters or lockpicking whilst in casing mode is gonna make it that much better than Payday 2. Or being able to hack cameras and have them run on a loop. I'm not sure if that was a thing in the previous game, I can't remember, but I don't think it was. Honestly, if they nail the stealth aspect of the game and make it that much more possible then I'm happy.
@@nathannicholson2933 You could apply camera loops, but you had to get right under them to do it, couldn't just hack them remotely with your phone. What I'm curious of really is how good is "ghosting" is in this game, since you still need to answer pagers.
The stealth was always the appeal to me in payday 2, seeing that it got even more developed and thought and care put into it makes me ecstatic. I can not wait
Stealth was always fun tho?
Honestly, I think Watchdogs had the right idea for the phone. I hope to god there's a hacker tree where we can do some NUTTY shit with it.
I just hope they add a way to listen to Payday 2’s soundtrack in Payday 3. Nothing will ever beat I Will Give You My All 2017 or Break the Rules
If it’s not added, modders will certainly make it so
Oh yeah these 2 soundtracks just fuck with no lubricant
Razormind, Ode to Greed and Break the Rules HAVE to be in the game, they're like anthems for the whole series at this point
I'd be damned if Overkill don't make sure the classic music gets added to PD3 and some of the original heists.
Maybe later down the road, obviously not anything that's an obvious inspiration; like we don't need the classic art gallery heist because this game features one, we'll have a basic bank heist as seen in the beta, so there's not really a need to add the PD2 bank to the game. But I'll be damned if they don't bring back The Brooklyn Bank just for that dang piggy. MAYBE the jewelry store because that's a cult classic, a little small for the gameplay we're seeing, but they added it to RAID: WW2 as a painting store in a passive mission, which was cool.
Being able to replay Hoxton Breakout but with all of the new weapons, new mechanics, enemies and gameplay would be amazing. I'd love that. Wouldn't make sense for the canon and the fact all the characters got a makeover, but I think that'd be a 10/10 mission in Payday 3.
The Golden Grin Casion is something I'd like to see with the updated graphics, I think it'd be a really vibrant and bright map, lots of fun colors and overall one of the best heists in PD2.
One of the best soundtracks too.
Would say I'd want Safehouse Nightmare back too, but I don't know if it's been confirmed if the Safehouse is returning? I know we'll have a shooting range, but I don't know if it'll just be a main menu thing like Call of Duty, where you can just hop in and test your weapons while you customize them.
Even though Simon won't be doing any of the soundtracks, so far the music sounds REALLY good. But I'd really like to see remixes to some of the fan favorites, we NEED a 8 Bits Are Scary remix for Halloween, a 2023 remix for I Will Give You My All and definitely need a Razormind remix.
Even though John Wick and Scarface are apart of the Payday canon, I can imagine there'd be some licensing issues with PD3 and I doubt we'll see any of the stuff from those DLC packs come back. Wouldn't mind another Goat Simulator 3 DLC heist though!
@@curple3Razormind is 100% the official anthem of Payday now. If there isn't atleast a remix I'll be pretty damn upset.
This honestly looks like its going to be quite a good sequel to Payday 2. I am glad they went with the Unreal engine, makes the game look alot better.
I also like how dynamic/destructible the environments are, like at 21:18, where the grenade destroys part of the ceiling, which then falls down.
I didnt notice that thats sickkk
21:59 I love how you can feel how heavy he is from the running animation.
cant wait to see it jacked with 200 mods
The fact they're trusting members of the community shows they're confident with what they've done here. I had my doubts but they were completely erradicated after this video. Props to the devs.
Im gonna miss runing at 300 km/h and crouch jumping across the room while shooting two vectors with laser accurcy and infinite ammo
But for real, the thing im gonna miss the most is the graze skill. Taking out an entire squad with a single bullet felt... damn
To be fair, it's not like payday 2 is going anywhere
Well who knows where the game will be in a couple years huh
It seems to me like with how Payday 3 is going, you still have a reason to come back to Payday 2 even if you own Payday 3 since Payday 3 feels more "Payday: The Heist". Do you want a mindlessly fun arcade shooter where you run at mach-5 speed nuking several enemies with a rocket laucher, or a gritty tactical shooter where you're fighting for your life against enemies who actually uses a brain.
I love SO MUCH the fact it's closer to serious PDTH rather than PD2 circus.
I'm happy that they invited you, more than you imagine lol
I mostly care about customization I really wanna just see what outfits and more they add the mask and suits is something to think about and i sweat thinking on what drip these heisters might have
Sounds like a lot of overall good changes. Exciting news
I'm SO happy they went more with PAYDAY: THE HEIST design philosophy
One thing I realized is that the mask straps are actually not rock solid anymore. They actual stretch when you're putting them on. This is revolutionary
this is a return to the roots and i'm all for it, payday was always supposed to be a spiritual successor to heist movies and this feels like a complete realization of that vision. hopefully it doesn't disappoint.
Everything looks good so far however I’m going to miss the PD2 special unit designs, I hope when the game launches they might try to make some of the special units look recognizable, that’s how I got to know all the special units in PD2, if they’re all going to be blue “except for cloaker” then it would be a bit hard to tell them apart from regular swat units
Since the cops aren't going to just swarm as a crowd, I think it won't be too hard to tell apart a special unit :)
6:55 yes but can we hear her say “guys the thermal drill go get it”
I mean this video definitely has me hyped for payday 3 and I might get it, this video makes it very clear that it isn’t just “payday 2 with a new coat of paint” it feels like a completely different experience and I can’t wait to see more
Good to hear that PD3 will be a mix between PD2 and PDTH (especially the AI). There were some things in the Crackdown mod that (in theory) are interesting, like the improved AI, several cloakers instead of 1, enemies dodging the bullets, taser truly shocking the screen and the grenadier.
Btw, do the enemy units have their cheesy lines from PD2 or something similar?
I appreciate you doing a different style to share all this detail with us. This looks fantastic.
I was really hoping that PD3 would move more towards how PDTH worked in terms of gunplay and difficulty, and it looks like wishes do come true!
I'm glad to see in these modern days of "programmer art" cluttered unreadable UIs with 17 different objective markers and constant unnecessary popups, that whoever is designing the HUD for Payday 3 is keeping it clear and simple while sticking to that coherent news overlay kind of visual design.
Strong design principles are greatly appreciated here.
It's a copy of Darktide.
This looks fucking great, man. I've been playing since PD1, but I parted ways with PD2 back in 2017 because I felt the collabs and general tone of the game got way out of hand after a certain point. That, and pretty much every other update was changing the progression/skill system all the time.
But this looks like a real return to form for Payday. Only thing that concerns me is the heisters not talking to one another too much. Hope that's something that's added later. I honestly can't wait to get back into heisting. Have fond memories of Payday 2's early years in 2013 and 2015, despite all the growing pains. Really excited to see how 3 shapes up.
Flash grenades just stunning you is a big plus in my book. In reality, "flash bangs" are just slang for the M84 stun grenade. They don't blind you long term. They just seriously disorient you.
Hell yeah man. Feeling insanely jealous after watching this and you got me nearly foaming at the mouth to play this game. Glad you went over tiny details and not just the broad larger scope.
Watching the video in the background but I gotta say man, congrats you've gone a long way from when we first spoke ages ago
You deserve it!
i sure do hope this doesn't turn out like how AAA games have been turning out lately
Great video, thanks for going in-depth in all the different mechanics. As much as i love Payday 2, i was still a little bit skeptical of this one but it sounds pretty awesome.
3:04
Ooh, now accuracy with shotguns is important. I enjoyed getting the big phat meaty headshots with the Reinfield, even if the cop died to just one pellet from it anyway.
14:47 I'm not sure what Battlefield calls it, but the IRL version is the GM6 Lynx. The main selling point is the ease of storage and transportation: The barrel can be retracted when stowed, and reciprocates on operation.
Judging from the gameplay from the footage being shown here
It is very worthy of being a sequel of payday 2 and is a massive upgrade to payday 2
They're literally making all the changes that i wanted for so long in another payday game goddamn, my wallet sees the gold edition purchase button at it fears for it's life
I was excited, until i heard it's online only and has denuvo.
My fav part of payday 2 is how even if my internet gave out i could just play with bots and have some fun that way.
Phenomenal video. Thank you for such an indepth review and you've built my hype to ungidly levels
I like that the gameplay is alot more rounded, looks like they're closer to pdth (for what I've heard). Hopefully it doesnt slowly devolve into overpowered hell hole like it did for payday 2
The sheer amount of interactivity and density I'm seeing from the maps is what I'm most excited for. From what we've seen, the only "waiting" objective is the thermite on the SCB bank (which, even then, you have the sprinklers and extra thermite bags to worry about), apart from that we haven't seen a single drill or hack we need to babysit which is such a breath of fresh air. I like that everything has a little minigame attached to it, lockpicking, blowtorching, safe-cracking, etc all has a little minigame that's actually fun and not just frustrating tedium. It seems like you'll always actually be doing something unlike Payday 2 and unlike most Co-op shooters. Not to mention that Stealth ACTUALLY LOOKS FUN NOW, it reminds me a lot of Hitman which is a very, VERY good thing. I think the changes to stealth might make it 'easier' but you'll also have to think a lot more so it'll be an improvement as a whole imo. Also the cop AI improvements are a nice change of pace from Payday 2's brainless cops, the cops in this game are intelligent as hell.
i love the new stealth changes, not only are the mechanics more in depth and unique, but now if someone messes up you can just switch over to loud instead of being pretty much REQUIRED to restart to successfully finish the heist.
I am honestly interested to see how the modding community is going to adapt to PD3. I feel like they were what kept PD2 alive for so long.

it would be so cool if, in theory, you have infinite pager but they require a sort of skill check that gets progressively harder to do and also scales with difficulty. kinda like in real life, its harder to convince the security guy each time you hit them up
I was hoping that they'd change the pagers so that instead of having to answer a pager each time you take out a guard, the guards answer pager calls themselves every fifteen minutes.
So you could spend fifteen minutes casing the bank, getting yourself ready to get into the vault by hacking into the cameras and moving the tools into position, the guards answer the first pager call, then you break into the vault and fifteen minutes later the guard's answer a second pager call and so on. If you kill a guard then you can't answer the pager call yourself, but if one guard misses his pager check then they start to get suspicious, if two guards miss it they start to search the bank, if three guards miss it the alarm goes off.
And the only way to stop the pager calls altogether is by taking control of the security room. Taking control of the security room stops the pager calls from happening, but it forces a radio check with the police and you have to find a code in the building that you have to answer correctly. Answer wrong and the alarm goes off. Answer correctly and you buy yourself some time. It adds a bit more depth to the game I think.

excited for PD3! I do fear the way you described the skill tree thing, they kind of remove the class building aspect. one thing i loved about pd2 was how i could have different ways to play. combined with the removal of visibility, does this mean you can just go in, armed to the teeth, and stealth a mission?

Thank you for confirming that Bile was back, that was genuinely a thing I hoped to see
I would've boycotted if he wasn't present
I can definetly say it was worth the wait
I really do get why people don't like drills, but for me, I really hope at least SOME missions have drill sections because I genuinely like having an "idle" objective while focusing entirely on the gunfight waiting for the objective to complete. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but to me, Payday's horde shooter vibe was a massive upside. It's really great to see more variety in objectives however. Guns blazing in drill sections and horde shooting is fun as hell, but the second part of Hoxton breakout... yikes, no.
This honestly looks amazing, I'm excited.
First time I've heard your voice. Only know you for your really well curated and edited stream announcement memes and remixes.
Have to say, you've got a great deep talking voice, wasn't expecting that lol
imagine hardcore mode with extremely dangerous AI and everyone goes down in 1-2 hits without the massive hp increase from Death Sentence in PD2. Having high level of tactics would be nice compared to PD2 honestly, less about killing onslaughts of AI and more about trying to change something in the map to change the tide in the player's favor.
I think I just busted in my pants a little. This is phenomenal!
Cant hear to see Dallas screaming in Unreal Engine
Overall I’m very excited and happy but it sounds like I’m gonna be missing the casual aspect pd2 had. Gonna be interesting figuring out the PD3 equivalent of PD2’s overkill.
Very good video, please tell us more on what you feel regarding OVK and the team. Given recent headache (and past), combined with the state of 'Modern Gaming' and its many annoying tropes, I feel like some confidence could be shed, even if one cannot validate it until the game is released. I'm tired of the gaming industry running over their customers (and it's all the executive and publisher level bullshit that's behind it 96% of the time) and I just want a game to actually believe in that isn't a smaller project for once.
Thanks for that hands-on review!
I’m glad the first gameplay I’m seeing is from you
Wasn't sold quite yet when I saw the trailer, but all of this info has made me very excited to see more. The stuff about the AI is fucking huge. Everything looks so good, too. Hella excited.
The stealth gameplay being improved is by far the best news here, considering that that SC remake doesn't seem to be coming out this century.
BIG upload :o congrats streamber!!!!!
thanks for the very in-depth review, the trailer did no justice and just looked like a payday 2 update. good to see that the game's way more interesting than it looked and it got me pretty excited
Maria, idk if you read comments and i didnt want to sound like a fanboy in the discord, but please consider making more videos like this. it was super great to hear your thoughts as well as the funnies sprinkled throughout. I could easily see you making some sort of “career” out of funny analytical/opinion things, especially with your long history and knowhow with content creation and general payday knowledge. it would just be a lot of fun to see
I was worried about PD3, but this genuinely seems like OVK put a LOT of thought and care into the game. Enemies having the same health across all difficulties is probably the best change yet.
The art direction looks sweet, gives Payday: The Heist vibes more.
Oh neat, I'm actually going to keep an eye on this now!
I like the darker tone a bit more. Payday 1 was cool because of that, felt more "seedy" and like you were actually interacting with the criminal underbelly.
Payday 2 started to turn into a Nickelodeon cartoon show lmao.
I do wonder: There was originally the idea in Payday 2 that captured and converted cops would have bombvests put on by the heisters, so it made more sense that they would fight against their own. That would fit the darker tone much better than anything in Payday 2.
I originally couldn't have cared less about payday 3 but literally all of these changes sound very, very good. Wish pagers would have gone the way of the dodo too but just the fact that you don't have to make a different useless loadout and mangle your guns just to even be able to try to do stealth and you're not just stuck having to reset if you mess up or the janky engine teleports a guard into you is already an enormous improvement.
Thanks for the review, Maria. This and TheKknowley's review make me a lot more reassured about Payday 3. The anger from Update 237 is completely justified (although things have gotten better, with distance filters returning and matches not crashing as much), but perhaps the transition can be more smooth.
I know this is a weird gripe but I kinda wish they kept some of the more interesting names from Payday 2 difficulties. Easy, Normal, Mayhem, Overkill would be cool at least. As dumb as having 7 difficulties is (honestly I prefer 3) they did come up with some cool names later on.
Also it seems like they went back to Payday: the Heist Bulldozers, which is cool because the Payday 2 Bulldozers seemed kinda cartoonish while Heist ones seem like brutally effective SWAT.
More payday the heist mechanics the better tbh, I really like the grounded feel of that game and I think is the correct way to execute this type of game.
I'm so glad that the Payday team is putting this much effort into Payday 3. Every change seen so far has been a near-direct upgrade from PDTH and Payday 2, and I can't wait to take Payday 3 to the limit.
This is amazing Can’t wait for September
Honestly, game looks pretty good, I was a bit anxious after seeing the weird trailer, but yeah I like it.
So... Is Gage Ass Pack 2 in? Jokes aside, I'm feeling much more confident now. Absolutely love everything I see.
Edit: Oh, a chick as a contractor/announcer? That's cool!
thanks for the breakdown, helped me decide.

Great video lots of information!
some people gotta realize this is still in beta, still looks nice
The interaction mini games are kind of cool but will they be still be cool after repeating them 500+ times?
That menu music is bangin'! Gustavo is killing it!
what i been noticing more and more is how important good gut feel is to a fps, and these guns are really looking like they pack a punch, just need to hear the sound design to seal the package
Damn, I never knew Overkill had such great taste in memes.
I'm hyped for Shade, I really wonder what will they do with her
Notoriety Jade:
@@thegamingvillager2392 lmao you're so right
Finally! Team work is back!
I haven't been following any of the Payday 3 promo material, and I mostly only watched people play PD2.
The new designs for the main four heisters are fantastic.
Hoxton's new coat and Wolf having his sleeves rolled up (with ZIPTIES) are just peak to me. They look so cool and fitting for the characters.
hehehehe woop dee doo :)))
