It’s honestly very sad, I feel bad about all of the issues and how it’s almost like the devs learned nothing from payday 2, people argue how payday 2 wasn’t that good at launch, it’s like they forgot all of the learning they got from payday 2 and restarted with payday 3.

In Payday 2 at launch, there was a skill that made bagging loot quicker. After Update 100, it was gone because *everybody* took it. In Payday 3 at launch, there is a skill that makes bagging loot faster. The only reason Last Man Standing got nerfed was because someone remembered the Swan Song nerf which took THAT skill from 9 seconds down to 6. They have forgotten everything, and it's a crying shame.

Y'know how back then people would compare Payday and L4D in a friendly-ish way (even the devs recognized it), P3 could be compared to B4B; the more you look at it, the more reminiscent it is. Especially treatment-wise.

    • @johntravoltage959
      @johntravoltage959 4 месяца назад +63

I can kinda see where its coming from, but I think B4B and PD3 are almost the complete inverse with where their problems lie. B4B had a completely rotten core, it had absolutely abysmal gunplay, which meant that even if everything else was great it would have just been awful anyway.
PD3 actually has some really great core mechanics/gunplay/stealth, but everything else surrounding that is pretty awful.
I think pd3 is a hell of a lot more impressive than B4B because there are very few games that really go out of their way with the gunplay and make shooting thats still really engaging.

@@johntravoltage959 Sure, there's hope at least. But the online-only is something I could only abide to go with if the game they're selling is an actual great game, a masterpiece. @johntravoltage959 4 месяца назад +4

@@elcobra98 I agree, but I don't think a game being online only immediately brings it to B4B tier effort.
I also don't think that pd3 is necessarily that impossible to turn into something good. I don't like that it feels like its the same, but Payday 2 on launch to me felt pretty similar aside from more serious technical issues, and a big difference in the progression. Aside from that though I don't think they are really that far apart, and because of that I don't think its impossible for it to just end up being another payday 2. But that does suck, especially what you point out regarding dlc.

@@updog4L Alright, believe me I was cooking a walltext about this but I somehow lost the whole thing so, tldr:
I had the crew bc I really wanted a game like it, suffered bc its online only, game is shutting down.
I would only abide to play an online only for a game that I've been longing for a long time and I feel it covers 99% of my gaming needs, any less is a no-no, and I'm impressed players dismiss online-only so much; it's not about "haha get a better connection" problem as much as it's about the thing shutting down whenever the devs want it to.
For me, for anything lesser than perfect, is not even worth considering, especially with online-only. Payday 3 doesn't look like it will get much better; it's just not 'masterpiece material'.

I think one of the only things you might've forgotten to mention is the progression system, which, I would think would work better as a cyclic progression system than this long endless journey that they seem so adamant to keep around. Payday 2 had this satisfying *mmph* to the Risk bonus where you would just see levels soar by on the results screen, and each infamy point after that is relatively attainable like once per week.
It's a balanced system to keep people playing because then you get both the early dopamine, and then the slower but progressing infamy system with many options.
I know Payday 3 now has its own answer to the infamy system but I just don't see anyone sticking around long enough to actually use it. I think there is still a lot that should be done about progression and feeling rewarded after a heist, especially with increased difficulty. Better to splurge players with too much of the stuff if it makes the journey more satisfying than being overly stingy.

I actually did commit to playing Payday 3 every day as the "standard" game I boot up when getting home for a few weeks after the latest DLC, and I love the gunplay it's rewarding and satisfying, it is the only real good thing I think about when looking at Payday 3 in my library, and I've mostly stopped playing at this point because life is too short. It's insane to me that having the gunplay being the only thing standing out in a pile of shit with UI that comes from your local 10 minute "how to make a console UI game" tutorial, to no QoL features, to it being online only, but you get thrown out of the lobby the second the heist finishes. "Coop game" my ass! the people playing with me might as well be bots for all the cooping we are doing with no communication or interaction, I might notice having fewer armor plates and that's it. The fact that I can't search for a loud or stealth only heist means I either play alone, get extremely lucky finding not console players to coordinate with if they even know there is a chat box in the dogshit that is the lobby UI, or have to sit through gold&shark stealth again for the 50th time this evening. I don't know how a team with this much experience in developing payday 2 can fuck up the parts that should be a direct translation from Payday 2, yet still make gunplay so satisfying. I agree with everything said in this video and I hope they turn the ship around but unless I start seeing them actually do something and not just throw DLC at me, Payday 3 will probably rot up in my library, I fear the worst fate for this game in 2024.

I've been playing since PDTH and couldn't stop playing PD2 for years, but with PD3 I played in the first month and I just can't bring myself to keep playing it. I think it's the large number of small issues that you mentioned which actively deters me from even bothering, plus that social aspect is almost completely gone. I made so many friends that I still play other games with today because of PDTH and PD2 because of how social it was. Plus the DLC pricing is an absolute scam.
The old OVERKILL team is pretty much gone and they took their talent with them (which considering the shit that Bo and others pulled I don't blame them at all for doing); what made Payday so special can only be recreated by the original team. As harsh as it might sound, I don't think the current devs have that shared passion or mindset anymore. I hope they pull it back and address the issues plaguing the game but it takes a lot of time to implement what people are suggesting, so by the time they finish it it could be too late.

It's missing soul. Payday 1 was made by a ragtag group that wanted to play around with the idea of playing as the bad guys, it was low stakes and mostly done for fun. Payday 2 was a continuation of that with higher stakes, they realized the fanbase that they had and understood that they needed to make a fun experience, but the original idea and concepts were still there. When Payday 3 came about, it was like "Well, these things are in other games and people play those" so they added the armor system like so many current shooters have, and added MOBA-like buffs to be the center point of their skills. They abandoned the simple concept to be something that Payday wasn't ever, as if they weren't trying to keep the old fanbase but to garner a new one off of the fanbases of other games. Payday 3 was made with no soul, it was made to sell a game, sell DLC, and sell microtransactions, it's just another shooter now. The real reason that it's online only is to stop people from pirating the game to maximize profits, but as a consequence nobody can truly own the game, if the Payday 2 servers go down you can still experience 99.9% of the game (all I can think of is OverDrill and some weapon mods) meanwhile if Payday 3 servers go down, the game is gone, you can't play it.

  • @TheTrane59
    @TheTrane59 4 месяца назад +24

The only cheats they were worried about were the DLC unlockers... I'm sure that is why they implemented the always online. You pretty much nailed it on the cons... Lack of crime net, social features (proper text chat on all consoles and voice chat), the UI and the progression system stop me from playing the game. I only play for a few hours when new content drops because I do not want to deal with this matchmaking system where ppl just insta leave when we go loud. It is sad to see this game flop hard and get yet another "wait for a year to be good" game... Even if the game had a stable launch I'm sure it would still have the same player number as it has now with these questionable design choices and constant "this was added post PD2 launch" from devs on basic QoL features like lobby settings (min lvl, loud/stealth indicator and vote kick) or even a jukebox that the modders already did.

Update 237 for Payday 2 changed the Matchmaking system from Steam’s matchmaking services (which PD2 had been using since launch in 2013) to Epic Online Services, and was meant to coincide with Payday 2 launching on the Epic Games Store, initially for free.
This resulted in Matchmaking being completely broken, mods being broken, and tons of cheaters flooding the game since it was free on Epic Games Store. There were also concerns that people’s personal information was being harvested when interacting with Epic Online Services, since Epic themselves are owned by Tencent, a massive Chinese gaming company notorious for pushing bad business practices like micro transactions and data harvesting, stuff like that.
All of that stuff combined created a big controversy for PD2… which was quickly drowned out by PD2’s final heist being added a week later, and PD3’s hype train starting up maybe a week or so after that.
And like I said in my original comment, I wasn’t necessarily “mad”, just profoundly disappointed that Overkill/Starbreeze would make such an astronomically bad decision, and I lost interest in PD3. In retrospect, Update 237 helped me dodge a bullet 😅

    1. I don't know why but I feel that SBZ has tied hands. Back in Payday 2, you could see and feel the support but in Payday 3, as much as they want to do stuff, I feel like there is someone holding them back, prioritizing other stuff. We could see that when Payday 3 launched. The game felt rushed but why? SBZ never released rushed content for Payday 2. Only problems that Payday 2's new content had was some bugs and stuff that needed nerf/buff that was fixed within a week
    2. The other things I wanted to mention is the "Strike team". Yes, they wrote they put Strike team together to fix the game but who are they? Are they good developers who can really fix the game? Or are they veteran developers of failed games or developers who did bad and were fired for some reason. Since I see the rushed release with publisher being at fault, I wouldn't be surprised if someone at top hired the "failed developers" for the same reason why Payday 3 failed. Irresponsible actions
I just want to be realistic about Payday 3's future and not naive. I hope things will go better

      @8stormy5 4 месяца назад +2

"Starbreeze never released rushed contant for Payday 2" lmao
Comment above mine points out launch issues but it went well beyond that. Gage Ninja Pack was so busted it prompted a mass rebalance of the entire game, which fundamentally changed core and integral parts of weapon mods and "types" of weapons, several crossover DLCs (which seemed to be the publisher's fault at least) were real stinkers, Overkill never figured out a way to make the 100+ melee weapons do anything engaging, and right up through post-White House was some pretty obvious and often uncreative level concept/asset reuse mixed in with the good stuff. Payday 2 was just halfway decent at very quickly brushing aside or ignoring rushed content, or more rarely fixing it. It matters for Payday 3 because this game has not fixed or even paved over its rushed elements and does not have a boatload of existing content to shore up flops- not that Payday 3's problems can ever be fixed just by adding new content.

I can remember vividly seeing that first DLC heist trailer and getting really excited to hop back in, getting home from work, booting up the game, and just how quickly it drained going over my loadout in a menu that sucks to interface with, and trying to convince any of my friends to reinstall just to play one heist. It hit then that we'd run the heist once, maybe twice, that'd run us maybe 1, 1 and a half hours before we'd simply be drained of any want to continue to "look for the fun". I think the game is great fun, but everything you brought up hits it clean on the head. What good is dropping 1 or 2 heists at a time, shifting numbers on some skills or guns, when down at the core of the game so much of the experience that everyone was wanting coming off of Payday 2 has regressed or is completely absent. I'm hopeful and optimistic that it'll get better though, I've seen this sort of thing in the Darktide release up till now, it happened several times in Payday 2, they just need to pack it in and really start banging out these severe issues not to appease us into buying more, but to get the game into the state we all wanted it to be in the first place

  • @deltanatorson
    @deltanatorson 4 месяца назад +10

i think another major issue are the guns themselves, people default to the bronco usually as a secondary because of a hidden stat (that the game DOESNT TELL YOU ABOUT) called Armor Penetration, and its high damage basically guarantees a one tap on overkill, which can make a whole world of difference when you have no primary ammo; compared to the smgs however, you need to mag dump most enemies to kill one of them, Compared to PAYDAY 2, armor penetration was tied to a skill that, even then, you do not need to ace make any of the guns viable. Literally every gun in the game has that stat and everyone defaults to the highest value (that was datamined because, as i said, the game doesnt tell you about armor penetration) so they can breeze through the game.
Weapon Diversity is important for the Payday series and 3 fails at that, until they implement a skill that either A: increases your armor penetration, or B: allow you to buy Armor Piercing Rounds for other guns; 3 is going to feel lackluster and not as engaging when it comes to gunplay

Imagine you have a car, and it's an absolutely fantastic car from a technical/engine standpoint. It gets incredible mileage. It turns sharp. It stops on a dime. It's the most efficient car you could ever want.
HOWEVER, the radio blares static, the air conditioner and heater are broken and both blast uncomfortably hot air, the upholstery sticks to your legs and leaves a residue on your back when you get out, and no matter how many air fresheners you put in that thing it smells like rotting possums and malt liquor stains.

The biggest gripe I have with Payday 3 is Armor. From people I know who work with Starbreeze, the Armor system was like Payday 2's until closer to release before Mio wanted the system we got. There's no callouts for if you need armor, and Armor is such a vital resource and the go-to pick for equipment usually because there's no way to regain armor truthfully, the armor repair kit doesn't give you a plate, just fixes your damaged one. A way you can fix that is by having a chance where a plate can drop from cops, have skills that increase that chance or give you benefit for them.
The drones on Syntax error really made be quit, though, they literally shred armor and the techie can just... hide anywhere she wants on the map, making it harder if she's hiding let's say near the lobby on the 2nd floor, or in a tucked away corner of the server rooms where cops are certainly crawling. Last time I played Payday 3 was mid-December, I haven't played since then because I want the game to get better so I don't get more mad at what it currently is.

How can you have a game like pd2 where it was still shit but it was at least FUN shit where things worked and where pretty much everything you'd expect was there only to then unlearn actually everything and not have any of that knowledge for the next game.

The game gives you that bankrobber feel, when you look at your back account after buying and playing it.
Starbreeze needs to seriously overhaul and finish their game, just a year of 2 of DLC for free added and then it might be better than payday 2
And by god was that game rediculous, I love it but I still hate pd2 for changing the dark night opening scene bankrobber game into 300 forgetful characters and weapon packs, don't forget about safes and keys being paid before the community got pissed off and they changed their minds.
Payday2 was greatest around big bank dlc, after that it was kind of downhill

the point of no return'll be when Wulf's heist game comes out for sure. if that game is the true successor to PD2 like they're saying it is then there's zero chance PD3 gets anyone back

I 100% completed the game in a relative sense.
I put over 270 hours into the game and ignoring the fact of the insane challenges like heist completions, I've 100% all achievements, heists in stealth and loud, guns, and levels. - Level is only 134 but considering the insane grind, it is for those after you've done 100% that you still have more to do, but relatively I have only moved on due to doing everything in the game. I have had a pretty normal experience when it comes to the game. I knew I'd love it. Only small issues is always online and finding games with people but the challenges kept me occupied until I did everything. So mostly the uninterrupted flow of the experience made it enjoyable. But I don't ignore the glaring issues. - I just really wanted to earn my money's worth and I did that 3 times over.

Coming back to this video about a month later and after seeing what they say they have in store for Operation Medic Bag, I want this game to be good, I truly do, and I hope that they can fix what they need to. I was there from Payday 2's beta, people forget the launch for Payday 2 was pretty bad too, but just like, this far in it feels like they should have known better? Like yeah sure I'm sure there was some kind of cycling of staff done between games, but I would have thought baseline features that Payday 2 had like you've mentioned, mostly social features (chat, unreadying in the lobby, indicating what kind of heist you're doing) not being there really makes the difference. The game just isn't as fun, and that's sad, because the base gunplay is actually really fucking good, it's clear that's where they spent most of their time.
I can only hope they pull this one back from the brink like they did with PD2 multiple times.

I still play the game every so often because I truly do like the gameplay in some ways. Just they really just thought they could get away with an online only game with no offline mode. Reminds me of Back 4 Blood since I was also pretty hyped for that game. The lack of an offline mode with progression was one of the biggest problems at launch for it. It still amazes me how companies think online only is a good idea. Not only does it turn away a good chunk of players, it puts your game on a time limit. One day the game will just die and be unplayable. It’s so sad because with all the cool things they did, it feels like they took 100 steps back for each one.

My biggest problem is the current system for armour, it makes combat less intense and enemies feel like they have been weakened to compensate for it.
It also feels kind of pointless because the game could have the same feeling of resource management if they made ammo pickup more restrictive. WIth the right tuning, fully regenerating armour could improve the game a lot, especially pseudo-stealth, because right now getting caught in stealth is basically game over unless you are at the very end of a heist.

I feel mostly the same, aye!
I still have the game installed, I play every now and then. But I really think it's a death by a thousand cuts for PD3. The core gameplay is awesome, especially the improved stealth over PD2. It's just the progression, UI, lack of carried over QoL from PD2's later years, and general feeling of it being unfinished that's holding it back. Now I said "just" but that's a LOT.
I do agree that all of this is mendable, and it entirely depends on how this new team they put together to address these issues moves forward with things in 2024. I truly hope we get some momentum going on UI adjustments first and foremost, because I'd say it's the most important right now. Unready button, proper loadout categorization for primaries and secondaries, communication options for console players. Need stuff like that to just make the game more bearable to interact with in the first place.
Beyond that, I hope to see more heists that are on the quality level of what we've gotten so far. Because I really do enjoy them. Especially Gold and Sharke, Under the Surphaze and the new DLC heist as well.

Pushed all the way to lvl 100 surprised i made it that far as i and my friends were bored to hell, haven't touched the game since and it's sad to see that they haven't made much progress towards anything in the time that I haven't touched it and it would be sad to see the game shut-down and we may quite possibly see Starbreeze as a studio shutdown and I may not know a whole lot about game development but i just don't get how they messed it up this badly it's almost like they said take everything gamers hate or what made payday good and just throw it out the window, it's honestly a shame.
    > No offline Mode
    > No way to preplan or join lobbies of those looking for loud or silent
    > No voice chat
    > No improved mask customisation
    > no unique enemy spawns making the game feel linear
    > Forced challenges in order to lvl up
    > Pointless live streams from the devs when asked questions it's either ''we'll think about it'' or ''we don't know''
    > Servers still unstable
    > No regen on health or armour making the game tedious and frustrating
    > Not being able to play due to server issues but still having the audacity to bring out paid DLC felt like such a slap in the face from the devs
    > I noticed the devs giving out free goodies for the game to streamers who were then promoting the game trying to get people who are unaware of the state of this game to buy it is just disgusting of course no hate to the streamers
    > honestly just Almir doing this 😎👊 whenever servers get fixed for like 2 minutes and are then down again
Decided to check out the recent dev stream and from a comment I saw i can't confirm nor deny since i didn't want to dedicate my time but apparently theirs no plans for anything this month for the game, no Server fixes, bug fixes, QOL, heists, mask nothing which I think may be an early sign that this game may be done for judging by the fact that only around 200 people are playing and I'm sure that number is much less by this point (not including console) and considering one of the devs is only lvl 44 it seems like even devs don't want to play their own game.
I absolutely love payday as a whole and it just sucks seeing something you love just get absolutely destroyed I think the biggest heist was Starbreeze taking our money and this being the end product, Overall I want the game to succeed but the devs seem stuck in their ways and with no real changes being done I think this might possibly be the end for Starbreeze as I think only a miracle help them at this point.
Those of you who may also remember this is the 3rd game that Starbreeze have messed up, Raid WW2, The walking dead game, and now this one so they have had plenty of chances in all honesty

It really hurts to see this series fall the way it has, me and my friends were so excited pre-launch, we loved the first 3 days of early access and were very excited for the future, and then launch day hit. Ever since then we played it on and off maybe stomaching 1 or 2 heists before the boredom sets in. But now i've had the game uninstalled for over a month and i've felt no motivation to go back to it.

I loved it during the early access, it felt so fresh and great. Full release when servers went down, and then the greater issues really set it like the lack of content, lack of updates, a lot of what seems to me like easy qol fixes, offline mode, pre game chat, etc.

I guess this is a bit late by a few days but
Now that i've played payday 3 i feel like i cant go back to payday 2, like I wont have fun in it. I was expecting Payday 3 to be basically a facelift/update for payday 2, I was expecting updated mechanics (which we got), gunplay that feels better (which we got), enemy AI that doesn't shit itself when there's more than 12 units on the map (which we got, I think), but everything we got in payday 3 is so small scale compared to payday 2, the stealth is one my favourite ways to play but everything really plays the same like you said.
I never had gripes with the challenge system since it forced me to try new things, which albeit did put a damper on my mood sometimes if I had to do challenges for a weapon that was just not that good, but trying different builds or playing outside of your comfort zone isn't really an issue its an opportunity. I think the reason people were complaining so much about was because of the lack of options.
Weapon customization feels a lot more dumbed down, its all basic attachments compared to payday 2 where you could change basically the entire profile of a gun, and it still feels like there's a "best attachment" for everything like you don't really see funny builds or aesthetic builds, plus its hard to tell what exactly everything does without any real stats. Just + or - isn't really communicating that very well.
The perks are nice and it feels like there's something that's pretty viable in every tree, but I don't feel very specialized in a heist, I personally liked being the drill guy who always had the drill perks so everyone else could run whatever they wanted, I felt like a corner stone. But now everyone does the same things just jumping through different hoops to get to it.
TL;DR, payday 3 is gourmet payday to me; it feels amazing and I love it, but its portion size is so small the quality doesn't really justify it.
if only I had the buffet of payday 2 with the quality of payday 3.
