Love bugs are particularly good at plugging things up. We were on the way to Disney World and had to visit a quarter car wash to get the engine temperature to come down. Then I found a net, and problem solved.
I wonder how many customers watch your channel an see their own cars being worked on, because some people may think they’re just being told a load of crap but watching your channel shows you say exactly what’s going on I would happily send my car to you for any repairs only problem is I don’t live in the USA 😂 I’m across the pond in the UK 🇬🇧 🤣
Omg the wiping of the radiator cap to clean it when there is coolant literally everywhere 🤣 Always a great laugh watching Ray. The geyser of coolant made me fall over, as Ray covers it instantly regretting while trying to quickly decide how to recover
Back in the “old days”……Every town of any size had at least one Radiator Shop. The town I grew up in had two. This was back in the days of dinosaurs and shops that actually FIXED things. That radiator would have had the tanks removed and it would have been carefully rodded out. The leaks would have been located and repaired. After a fresh spray of shiny black paint the radiator would have been as good as new for a reasonable price! There was an Auto Electric Shop next door that REBUILT generators, alternators and starters. His rebuilds never failed and he took great pride in his work. He also had a mouth like an Army Drill Sergeant when things didn’t go well. Today, labor costs have created a throw away society I suppose.
Im looking forward to some repair videos on the 2004 Corolla if one ever breaks down. 🤣 Love my “Baby Rose”. Ray has helped me keep her running nice. Had her 19 years. Looking forward to 19 more.
Good call on that radiator hose witness marks. I’m young backyard mechanic and I’ve always done that for just how it looks. Nice to know I can now justify my reasoning.
Just a tip Ray, when removin g some of those pesky wiring loom clips, try using a selected piece of aluminium tube to push the "claws" in, so as to be able to remove them, so much less likely to break the little buggers. Cheers From NZ
Hey Ray this is Jose from New Hampshire just watching the video where you change the radiator on the Mitsubishi I watch all your early new videos since you own your own shop sometimes I will click in the one where it shows you working on your old shop and it's like no don't want to watch it I like watching something newer even though I saw those old ones before I try to keep up with the new ones it's a daily ritual with me it's like watching Jerry Springer God bless his soul you take it easy take care God bless on you and your business and wife unit this is Jose from New Hampshire🎉😊
Should've just replaced the condenser as well or spend time straightening out all those bent over fins. I would suggest doing like the big commercial trucks and installing a metal mesh bug and rock screen in front of the condenser radiator assembly
In am amazed at how the fans/rad/cond just clip together. I am surprised yuo did not replace the condenser as it looked pretty rough - lots of bent fins.
Love your channel and I've watched all your videos. The shop is great. My only point is that you don't clean like you use to. Not blowing the debris from the condenser, you're better than that. I know you can't do free repairs, etc of random stuff you see but blowing off that debris is 2 mins and not an extra repair. It's the right thing to do. I learn so much from you.
I agree he should have hit with a can of brakeclean! Really a few skeletons of dried out bugs won’t hurt cooling performance to much to worry about. Others have said it’s stuffed and time to replace but seriously if you start that argument it’s probably time for a new car, but for all we know it maybe a car owned by a student or granny who can’t afford to replace the unit. Stop being ridiculous you guys!!!!😖😖
That condenser is just as good as it was when it came in. That wasn't the problem folks. It came in hot so to me, it tells me tĥis person needs their car yesterday. Been doing this for 27 years and i come home and watch rainman on youtube. The kid is amazing. However i would invest and use what i call hose picks. Clocking the spring clamps is vital between leak and no leak. Just my 2 cents.
I enjoy watching you work on cars. Especially when it's not me lol. You make it look so easy. Odd, I always run into road blocks. Watching yours gives me more add in doing things easier.
👏👏👏👏another great video Ray. When I replace my radiator I also replace upper & lower radiator hoses unless I’ve just replaced them. Ray some people call those vehicles SOB’s because that’s the words that are used while working on them
Have watched a lot of this sort of thing in the collision repair shop I used to work in. BUT, none as entertaining as your commentary. Very good video indeed!
Still Loving it Ray. Your detail in camera and communication is second to none. One question? Did you remember to pick up your 13 mm socket off the top rad support?
I'm surprised that you didn't check the oil initially.. but I suppose the pressure test would have shown it if the leak wasn't obvious. So now I know of a kit needed to be purchased in the future to help assist in finding coolant system leaks. Nicely done!
Ray did a great job, and went the extra mile. This video showed me that things can be overlooked by simply trying to replace a radiator, and he was prepared to evacuate the AC unit. Good Job Ray! You are a master mechanic in my book!
Hi Ray, you didn't wipe the dirt of the box before laying the new radiator down on the cardboard all the bits stuck on the new radiator we can see this.?
ER, what happened to the guy who said he always fits new schrader valves whenever he services the AC when he was in his last job? He used to clean up his tools and work area too if I remember.
Spray some lubricant will help slide off Parts very easily ! And when I install hoses at has leaked prevention plans I use RTV gasket sealer not much just to help feeling those parts backup FYI is works very well !
I would not have been able to remount the A/C condenser without at least trying to blow out the fins with compressed air----the blue blow nozzle was right there on the bench!
I hope you grabbed your #10 socket that was sitting on the left side of the upper radiator support. I hope you also have yourself a great day. -KB North Chesterfield VA.
Had the same geyser effect when using a pressurized Mity Vac on the brake system. Neglected to depressurize the line leading to the brake reservoir and met with the same effect you did with the cooling system. Cleaned it up immediately due to the effect brake fluid has on paint, what a mess!
My OCD just kicked in. Is there a reason that you did not clean the debris from the A/C condenser while you had it out? Seems to me that would aid in cooling efficiency.

well done as always ray. the only thing that was staring me in the face was the dirty condenser. i think i would have cleaned it before putting it back together. otherwise, awesome job.
I agree with that also, but you cant risk getting water into an ac condenser becuse freon (name brand) turns into an acid if its mixed with water, even worse if its mixed with antifreeze. The machine shop i worked at had to rebuild boilers in big buildings the kind the chill tower sits on the roof, the reason they need to be rebuild is water and freon mixed and ate the copper pipes. Acid eats copper thats how you separate gold off copper componets if your mining gold off computer parts. Acid won't eat gold just the copper. Now most of a cars ac system is aluminum ecpt the pumps internal parts. Acid also corodes aluminum i belive. Im not really sure. New ac componets are shipped with plugs in the connection points to keep humidity out, the system can deal with some water moisture the vacume process and oils take care of that, Now you might think air hose but you can bend the fins that will do as much or more dammage as the bugs. Better to leave it alone. You really should clean that off when its a sealed system, but this persons not really good with Preventing problems becuse the coolent in the radiator much have been bad to make the plastic parts crumble. You cant expect somthing you dont take care of to last, but by the same token I dont flush mine very often either. Who does? I think its been 5 years sence I changed my oil, but the car hasn't moved over 1k miles in 5 years. I had to buy new tires not becuse they were woren out. Becuse they were dry rotting from age.
As a Lancer owner (2010), the first thing I noticed under the hood was the different air intake system. My car gets its air from a duct near the front that covers the battery, that car is sucking in hot air from around the engine. That has to have a negative effect on engine performance.😂
Ray, just saw a pretty cool hack for removing fuel pumps from a gas tank. Take an old serpentine belt, slip one end through the box end of a ranch, put the belt around the Lock ring, tighten the belt on the box and, tighten up and twist the belt with the wrench.

Morning Ray.
Tip: If possible, try to gently clean out the condenser to remove dead bugs and dirt. It will help with AC and the radiator performance.
Yes looks like Ray missed something, the bugs in Condenser....
Pressure washer 😂
I was just going to mention that beat me to it😂
Love bugs are particularly good at plugging things up. We were on the way to Disney World and had to visit a quarter car wash to get the engine temperature to come down. Then I found a net, and problem solved.
I was going to say he missed cleaning condenser, light air, soft brush. Bugs and dust are gone.
You left your socket on the core support!
Thank you again for using the red mag trays I sent you as you see they do come in real handy😅
Alright!
Cool man, you are awesome!
Red mag tray sitting on a non magnetic engine cover. Perfect deployment.

Am I the only one that's learning so much from this guy??? He's so awesome!!

'Reputation is everything...' with this attitude Ray, you will go far. Nice.
RayRay, the pressure tester MONEY SHOT...Priceless!

Ray: "no coolant, only water."
5 seconds later
Also Ray: "I don't smell any coolant"
My husband mentioned this as soon as Ray said it, too. We both laughed at it. 😂
@@erikamattingly1425 my only reasoning for that was like "maybe they poured water after the coolant leaked out" but yeah, had a giggle, too
