Damn Ray, 4 new calipers, 4 new rotors, new front wheel bearings, new rear wheel bearings, new front and rear brake pads, all new brake hoses, and 2 new front axle shafts.... It should drive and stop like a BRAND NEW truck again! That is a BUNCH of new parts all at once! Nice work, Sir!

From a grinding brake (ignored warning) to 4 wheel full brakes including calipers and hoses and front axle shafts and rear bearings. That's why our stuff gets done last, you already know if you're in there might as well do it all. Hint-easy way to remove bearing races is to weld a bead around the inside face of the race, destroys heat treatment of race and knocks out much easier.
i retired from being a automotive mechanic & restorer last June 2022. i can truthfully say that after all these years, i have never had to do any work to any dually pickup trucks, of course i live in a area that no one needs a dually, so it is interesting to see how a dually's rear end comes apart. Love your videos Brother, be safe in all that you do out there.
Always interesting on what type of work has to be done, always informative. Thank you Ray for the instructions on what has to be done to repair the issues.
Ray, I also do a lot of towing with my 3500 dually, and I also had same issue with heat cracks on my rotors. it led me to check the brakes on my trailer to which I discovered an electrical issue with my trailer brakes. so when hauling 15k and brakes intermittently disconnecting, it didn't take too long to have to do a full brake job on my daily. I am so glad to see you doing so well in your own shop. Congrats 👏 👏 I do really want to see the Jeep worked on. I have an '02 WJ 4.7L Laredo with Selec-Trac. My list of repairs to do are: • Drag link adjusting sleeve • Center link adjusting sleeve • tie rod ends. • track bar bushings replacement Oo • sway bar links (proprietary bolts in rear bottom that are rusted in) • sway bar bushings (rusted frozen bolts) • sand and clean sway bars and brackets. • rear inside axel seal and hushing leak. • possible brake leak but not visible in wheels or pistons. • master cylinder might be leaking into power brakw booster, im getting a fluid syringe woth hose to test for fluid. • might replace master cylinder and brake booster for $120 new. • rusted hard brake lines and sofe brake hoses. I wanna use NiCopp hard lines or Cunifer brake lines and double flare them myself. The hoses i want to have Red PVC insulation and stainless steel lines woth flexible coils by Power Stop think they are $140. • lower control arms and front uppers and rear upper A-arm with ball joint (Moog) • windows dont roll down in front, think its a wire in door. The rear windows are unable to move but passenger side rear window falls down, probably the regulators. Im new to opening up door panels. • front driveshaft was removed before i got the WJ. Maybe the transfer case is bad? • not sure how to test transmission fluid to see if i can change it and not lose friction disk material ans have a gear slippage. I really want to change it. • probably need to change rear diff fluid. • the coolant is the old green type which is wrong. Manufacturer FSB says to only use HOAT coolant (Zerex G05), that means new thermostat and housing(aluminum) and hoses. • have a O2 Sensor high voltage code Bank 2 Sensor 2: (P0161). Dont know how to fix that. (P0158) • Have an EVAP code: P1494 Maybe you can do videos for this?
Given the extensive replacement of parts on the rear axle, I thought you might change the emergency brake shoes too. They looked at little worn and since EVERYTHING was apart and they are deep in the assembly...

26:47: Problem es trying to impact out bearing on top of an empty cardboard box minimizes effect of impact on bearing. So bearing stay put, not go kaput. Problem solved, no?
When I was growing in the 60's & 70's the mechanics cars always needed work! In 69 I was 10 and asked a mechanic why? He said you don't get paid for working on your own car. It breaks then fix it ! In a way your lucky doing front bearings on a 1 ton bigger spindles more room. Yesterday I replaced the originals on my Taho with 190k miles caliper had to come apart to get the stuck pad housing and the wheel bearing bolts you couldn't get an impact on cuz of the boot . Broke my first ever Craftsman 6 point 15 mm! That spacer is wild!
Funny - as soon as you said grease from leaky boot, I knew you were going to replace the CV axles and fail to get them out without removing the sway bar link. I've done these axles a lot!
I watch Ray's videos to lear how to do everything one handed. Never ceases to amaze... I would love to work on some clean Florida stuff. Even our rust rusts up here...
I've done this same job but on a chevy dually with drums in the rear. It had the 307 olds gas running high compression and pretending it was a diesel. The drums were huge.
That's my frustration with owning common cars up here in ct, everytime I go to get a part from the store, they say they have it but the kids that work there take it off the shelf without deleting from the system. So I'll have to hit up 2~3 places to get a honda accord rotor or a jeep cherokee wheel bearing... and sometimes they put the old part back in the new box and put it on the shelf.
I watch your channel. I watch 'Just Rolled In'. The last few months noticed a metallic sound on brakes. Needed four rotors and pads. My normal repair place thought it was funny when I told them I watched bad brakes on you tube to only have the same problem. Least my rotor were still there, and not worn through. Don't feel too bad about metal to metal brakes.
Ray you seem to be in love with brake clean. Lol every time I see you use it, it's always over kill. Lol. Love your content man. Keep up the great videos.
I have the same truck! Luv the dirty gal... I installed "dry ice" rear pad/rotor cooling setup! Got an average of 234k MORE miles per rear brakes via this God send fabrication!

I can't believe the bolts standing vertical on the leaf spring did not fall down while you were hammering off the first rotor. Also, the gentle set down of that 3rd can of brake clean got me... 😆
The Infamous Nitto Dura Grappler... a good tire for the 1st half of its life. Will split right down the center of the tread at ⅔ tread life. 3 sets have showed me this. I ran them as steer tires on my 97F350 CC dually 2wd w 55lbs air (265/75/16E) and all 3 set have split. Today I have Toyo Open Country HT on for 2 years and no wear or ride issues for the same size tire....
Great job Ray! I love the south too! Thanks for sharing, a boat 🚢 load of information always come out of all your videos! Much appreciated! Til next, Smiles, Smiles Everyone😀!
I welded many of late 80's Ford 1 ton rear axle tubes when the wedge came out of the plastic lined lock nut causing the floating axle to walk out of the tube , resting on the top key way edge and splitting the rear tube housing. We made a tool to close the split, weld crack from the inside of the tube and re thread saving the axle. Poor design.

Did you see the special entity walking the shop? I swear I saw it.
Are you going to agree with the customers diagnosis on this one??😅
From a grinding brake (ignored warning) to 4 wheel full brakes including calipers and hoses and front axle shafts and rear bearings. That's why our stuff gets done last, you already know if you're in there might as well do it all.
Hint-easy way to remove bearing races is to weld a bead around the inside face of the race, destroys heat treatment of race and knocks out much easier.
Mechanic states, “customer’s an idiot, wife units cute though, mechanic quits…leaves with wife unit” 😂😂
i retired from being a automotive mechanic & restorer last June 2022. i can truthfully say that after all these years, i have never had to do any work to any dually pickup trucks, of course i live in a area that no one needs a dually, so it is interesting to see how a dually's rear end comes apart. Love your videos Brother, be safe in all that you do out there.
Always interesting on what type of work has to be done, always informative.
Thank you Ray for the instructions on what has to be done to repair the issues.
I understand you putting this off as long as possible it a tough job.
Ray never hammer out something on a soft surface like a box as it absorbers the energy of your hammering.
Good Job Ray!!
The X Files drops are starting to be my favorite thing lol.
19:24
Starting to reawaken my childhood nightmares
Using brake clean to clean brakes! What a concept!
I enjoy the videos, whether it's your personal vehicle and/or wife units or a customer vehicle. Always enjoyable to watch. It makes my day or evening.
Love your content, good to see you on your own. keep it up.
You are asking for trouble reusing wheel studs. They are made to install once and only once. When they spin in the hub or start popping under a heavy load, you'll wish you changed them
They'll be fine.
@rjm7168 When the duels come off and go through someone's windshield and wipe out a family, can you stay that.
The tires come off and make Kia Souls fly, that's all. No one dies any more, this isn't the 70's...😅😂😅😂😅😂😅
Great stuff Ray, noone cares that you are working on your truck instead of a customer's. Its your skill level, attention to detail, commentary, professionalism, and antics that keep us watching.
I am so glad to see you doing so well in your own shop. Congrats 👏 👏
I do really want to see the Jeep worked on. I have an '02 WJ 4.7L Laredo with Selec-Trac.
My list of repairs to do are:
• Drag link adjusting sleeve
• Center link adjusting sleeve
• tie rod ends.
• track bar bushings replacement Oo
• sway bar links (proprietary bolts in rear bottom that are rusted in)
• sway bar bushings (rusted frozen bolts)
• sand and clean sway bars and brackets.
• lower control arms and front uppers and rear upper A-arm with ball joint (Moog)
• windows dont roll down in front, think its a wire in door.
• have a O2 Sensor high voltage code Bank 2 Sensor 2:
(P0161). Dont know how to fix that. (P0158)
• Have an EVAP code: P1494
Maybe you can do videos for this?
Given the extensive replacement of parts on the rear axle, I thought you might change the emergency brake shoes too. They looked at little worn and since EVERYTHING was apart and they are deep in the assembly...
You got it going on brother ,I'm pretty good with my hands and had some good teachers throughout the years and really enjoy working with you even if it is is from the lazy boy.
Good afternoon Ray I want to take this time to say thank you once again for a great video I learned a lot more than you can imagine . Also want to say thank you very much for going into some detail on the disassembling and reassembling of the front end and for that I am very grateful. God bless you your family and your friends and all your viewers on this channel. ✝️✝️✝️🇺🇸
Thanks a lot Ray, I never performed maintenance on a dually rear wheel vehicle now I know how to do it.
Ray, I’m sure there will come a day when you and Troy are working on different cars and we hear ‘click’ or ‘gravity’ in rapid succession, like an echo in the shop😅
When I used to work on customers vehicles everything went so nice. It's when I worked on my crap everything would go wrong lol hate working on my stuff but it has to be done.
A "Trans Van" . . . so many jokes loaded into that! youtube would be VERY grumpy !
26:47: Problem es trying to impact out bearing on top of an empty cardboard box minimizes effect of impact on bearing. So bearing stay put, not go kaput.
Problem solved, no?
Oh the horror!! Brake clean being used on....BRAKES 🥶
I was shouting at the screen "take the sway bar link out!" Lol!
I managed to get the rf out without 🤷♂️
I watch Ray's videos to lear how to do everything one handed. Never ceases to amaze... I would love to work on some clean Florida stuff. Even our rust rusts up here...
wow that is a great design for easy maintenance good thing rear brakes don't wear out as fast as fronts do
I've done this same job but on a chevy dually with drums in the rear. It had the 307 olds gas running high compression and pretending it was a diesel. The drums were huge.
Hey Ray, since you're in Florida, did you charge the customer for the anti-mosquito spray treatment on the air filter and cabin filters?
It's amazing how much faith we put in plastic, clamps, and snap rings.
Couldn't you just drive the tow truck home?
That's my frustration with owning common cars up here in ct, everytime I go to get a part from the store, they say they have it but the kids that work there take it off the shelf without deleting from the system. So I'll have to hit up 2~3 places to get a honda accord rotor or a jeep cherokee wheel bearing... and sometimes they put the old part back in the new box and put it on the shelf.
The painters house is always flaking, the plumbers house the taps all leak, and the mechanics car is badly maintained... this is human nature
And the Carpenters house always needs an addition. It just never ends...
I just have to concur with everyone else.
I actually love to see you work on your own stuff, nothing wrong with that.
I don't know which is gonna be better. The video or the comment section of this one.
Ray you seem to be in love with brake clean. Lol every time I see you use it, it's always over kill. Lol. Love your content man. Keep up the great videos.
I can’t get over how clean and rust free it is. Must live in the southern states.
I may have missed it, but at least you have the new skins on!
Today I installed the new LED workshop strip lights I bought back in Jan 2021!
So with you on delaying doing your own jobs Ray!
44:48 - Will ya take a look at those beefy Tie-rods! Kind of reminds me of the upgraded ones he installed on his own Silveryado.
I have the same truck! Luv the dirty gal... I installed "dry ice" rear pad/rotor cooling setup! Got an average of 234k MORE miles per rear brakes via this God send fabrication!
Great Job, brings back alot of memories from younger days
it is like any profession theirs always gets done last because they are always busy so take any notice of people getting at you as we know you are a great mechanic , thanks for the video
Rays custom door bell chime… 2 snap on wrenches falling on concrete.. cussin’ with the old ‘gravity’
I think your mechanic was doing his Arnold Schwarzenegger imitation….Aaaahhhyeee
I can't believe the bolts standing vertical on the leaf spring did not fall down while you were hammering off the first rotor. Also, the gentle set down of that 3rd can of brake clean got me... 😆
That was a massive re do , good going Ray!
14:35 - Love the song in the background.
Never buy a car from a car mechanic. True a hundred years ago and true today. I completely understand Ray.
Really enjoyed this Ray.....full service brake job on your own truck...oddly...I feel more satisfied than usual!!!!
I think we should note for all the 40mm plus wheel spacer guys. Yes massive factory spacers, notice the size and how many nuts are holding it in place
@43:53 "Viewer down! Viewer down!
I'm okay. 😂
Thanks for this excellent episode Ray.
-SALUTE-
Great job Ray! I love the south too! Thanks for sharing, a boat 🚢 load of information always come out of all your videos! Much appreciated! Til next, Smiles, Smiles Everyone😀!
Great video Ray. I don't see heavy trucks worked on often. Learned some new things today :)
Same as being a superintendent. Repairs in our units never get done
You really need to get a sponsorship with CRC for your chemical needs. Their brake clean is second to none and they are Internet savvy. So give their marketing department a ring and save yourself a ton with the bonus having the best cleaner on the planet. 500k subscribers is nothing to sneeze at. Plus your a family man and they like that.
If you lived in New York state, that truck bed would be on the floor right now.
19:31 Always nice to see Wife Unit and Child Unit.
Ray
It's always a good idea when replacing calipers. To crimp off the hoses and cut them straight off. It will save you from getting bludgeoned to death. Or a trip to the hospital.
Saw it coming when you first tried to balance it in the arm above. Please have better health and safety at work. And keep up the comantary
