I’ve been reading a lot about using sea salt products for acne. Anyone have recommendations for what to try? I’m 44, combo oily sensitive acne prone skin and have acne that is the stuff that will just be there for weeks. I'd like to see a video dedicated to Actives: when to use, how often, and how to layer (and NOT to layer), and actives to avoid or try for certain skin types. Actives like niacinimide, vitamin c, azalaic acid, retinol, glycolic acid....and more :) Thank you!
I'd love that. I've been told by my Hepatologist that I should not use retinols due to liver damage, so I bought resveratrol, bakuchiol and azaleic acid, BUT, how do I use them? When do I use them? Can I layer them? When should I use my BHA or AHA? With them, alternate nights? Help, Doc, give us guidence for those of us who can't use retinols anymore!
@@SusanSanders-o3ni just started using azelaic acid and you should probably follow this routine: only every other evening use azelaic in this order: oil cleanse, water based cleanse, hyaluronic serum/moisturizer, azelaic acid, moisturizer if you have to do mornings instead, do the same routine just add sunscreen at the very end layering actives can be tricky but you shouldnt really combine actives with actives. bha and aha are strong and will increase sensitivity, and vitamin c you can use in the morning if you wash mornings. i hope this helped you since it helped me!!
with Dr Idriss videos you get: 1- a history lesson on the topic at hand and how it was discovered 2- a simplified biological lesson of the active ingredient and how it works on our body 3- and what to be careful (potential side effects), and what product brand to trust and use that are safest 😎
I would like to see a video that shows the order of application of actives for AM and PM skin routine, namely hydroquinone, vitamin C, glycolic acid (I use those in the AM), tretinoin, niacinamide and azelaic acid (I used those at night). Thanks so much for taking up of your time to educate us 🌹
@Blue_Moon_ 17 Personally, in the morning I use my face wash, azelaic acid as my morning active then follow up with my moisturizer after giving the azelaic acid a few minutes to absorb. I then put sunscreen over that. Most vitamin c serums have issues being stable due to the nature of the product (especially in the presence of sunlight). Tretinoin can be used during the night time along side a moisturizer to help with the dryness. I personally wouldn't use azelaic acid and tretinoin together in 1 routine because they have a lot of the same effects on the skin, you would end up doubling down on the same thing & increasing your chances of irritation putting them together. Azelaic Acid in the morning & Tretinoin during the night time is good. As for Glycolic Acid, one to a few times during the week is all you really need. It isn't something I would recommend using every day. Niacinamide can be used anytime (it is however found in plenty of products now). For layering, liquid products go first, then gels/creams.
Doesn't matter. Apply vitamin C directly after cleansing with an acidic cleanser, before toner and any other products - increases penetration. The others make no difference.
@@minniethepooh9083 @Minnie The Pooh Studies found using acids in the morning increase penetration of actives (specifically tretinoin in this study) used in the PM. There's nothing dangerous with using acids in the AM. There is also no reason to not use an "exfoliant" in the AM. The only exception I can think of is mandelic acid which readily breaks down from UV exposure. You should also be using a salicylic or glycolic acid or other cleanser in the AM and then applying vitamin C (l-ascorbic acid) directly after first thing for increased penetration.
You might be over doing it w actives honestly. Trent 3-4 nights. Glycolic 1-2 night. Azelaic mornings 4-5 days Give your smoke a break and a lot of these actives have the same effect even if you don’t use them everyday
My derm prescribed me azaelic acid cream 15% mixed with niacinamide and it has done wonders for my rosacea and hyperpigmentation. I started noticing the change after using it for 2 months. I've now been using it for 7 months and I've received so many compliments from people who havent seen me in a while. The Doc is right when she says even skin tone makes you look better. Huge difference. And my bumps from rosacea are much smoother. I also use over the counter retinol (cereve).
Fun Fact: in Poland 15-20% azelaic acid is available without a prescription! And it's very cheap, so it has been my 'must-have' product for years. Thank you for the video Dr Sheerene 😍💕
I'm a guy with mild, spotty rosacea with some flushing but can be controlled with diet (clean/high protein/25% fat and 25% carbs) and no dairy. I've had amazing results with: 1) morning soolantra (ivermectin) 2) evening finacea (15% azelaic acid topical gel) I follow up with Biossance squalane oil and Eucerin moisturiser + sunscreen in the AM At night I use finacea with squalane oil, light serum and moisturiser with peptides! I loved retin-a, had no adverse effects APART from severely dry skin - no matter how much hydration, diet, water, even at once a week. Such a shame! but found azelaic acid (finacea) is much more suited as a mild exfoliant.
Great video! Azelaic acid has been a game changer for my skin (I have rosacea). I first tried the ordinary 10%- I found that if I applied it in one direction it wouldn’t pill. But completely agree that the prescription 15% gel is so much more elegant and enjoyable to use
I found this vid after searching azelaic acid & I’ve been binging all your videos ever since. I love how much you educate us while explaining everything in silly casual way. It really helps to remember all the info. You remind me of a middle school teacher (in a good way lol). I’ve watched so many other RUclips vids & they all blend into one & go out the window. And I love how you promote targeting the most prominent condition. I’ve fallen prey to the marketing & just buying whatever I’ve got a coupon for or searching “best” whatever. Or going on RUclips just for product recommendations not really looking into or caring about each ingredient based on my skin type/condition/environment. I’m so glad I found your channel! I’ve got closed comedones on my cheeks & post acne red marks, so I just ordered the Paula’s choice azelaic acid serum & am excited to start using something that will hopefully actually do what I need for my specific skin. ❤
Hi Dr. Shereene! My sister and I have been watching your videos religiously because you are so great at explaining everything in such vivid detail. It has helped us learn so much about our skincare routine, and I no longer purchase anything without reading and researching every ingredient (or already having the information due to your lovely videos.) We are so proud and happy you now have your own practice. My sister lives in Brooklyn and I visit her once a year so our goal is to make an appointment with you once we bounce back from all these pandemic job losses. Wish you well!
My God! Just studied ténia versicolor today, commonly caused by malassezia Globus> m. Furfur today (I'm a mbbs student) And the doctor I look upto talks about it What a gorgeous coincidence! ❤️
If you have normal skin and no acne and mild melasma seems to be getting better with other actives (retinoids, vitamin-c) is there any reason to add this to a skincare routine, you think?
@@marikal2341 If you use retinoid every other night (which you should) then you can add a 15-20% azelaic acid on the nights you're skipping retinoid, it'll help
This video came at the right time. I started Azelaic acid in my 3rd pregnancy in 2020 at a time when my skin was really bad and it helped a lot! With breakouts and the horrid PIH/PIE I stopped for a few months because O couldn't get it anywhere, everywhere seemed to be sold out. When I eventually found it I was so happy. But then I discontinued after a few months again because I had developed a skin reaction to something and stopped all actives. FFW to now, just a week or 2 ago, I decided to dig it out and try it again and I fell in love all over again. I am acne prone, I get occasional breakouts and I get whiteheads/comedones all the time.
Excited to try more products with azealic acid. Went to a dermatologist today and she recomemended it to me, she said I have sensitive skin. I also noticed that in the past 2 years, my skin gets redness more often - I'm 29 now. Thank for sharing the knowledge, Shereene :)
Love azelaic acid! I have tried both Paula's Choice one and the Ordinary one; PC is definitely nicer in terms of application. It does not pill, and I personally don't find it smelly. If I have extra money, then I'll definitely go for PC. TO one is equally effective, but of course trickier to apply. I found that mixing it with my moisturizer (The Ordinary NMF) works well. As someone with oily skin, I appreciate its' mattify effects (TO is more mattifying than PC).
I’ve used AA (15%) for 9 months now for rosacea. It has worked wonders to calm my skin. This winter, I’m only using it five days a week because it can be drying.
I use the 20% cream formula, and I have used the 15% gel formula before, and on my skin the 20% showed better results, but the doctor says the 15% is better absorbed so now I don’t know what is better.
I very recently added azelaic acid into my routine. I'm using The Ordinary and really like the texture. I'm using it twice a day with no ill effects. I started it because of very stubborn hyperpigmentation exacerbated by aging.
I‘d love an Azelaic Acid part 2! About how to combine it with other active ingredients, when to apply in my skincare routine, whether it can be used constantly or should only be used for a certain period of time? Thank you! Love your videos and base all my skincare on them!!
I actually found The Ordinary’s azelaic acid suspension very pill-y, and sometimes quite stingy on my skin. It also felt extremely silicone-y to me. I don’t find the Paula’s choice Azelaic acid booster to be that smelly and it’s texture is light and gel-like, which I find easier to apply on the skin. It’s helped my acne-prone skin quite a lot.
Azeliac acid burns my skin, along with Finacea. So I can't use this on my Rosacea prone face! I wash with Cerave, Prosacea and oral medications to help control it.
@@joann.5041 i switched my cleanser for a gentler one (yes gentler than cerave) a dermo cleanser or milk cleanser and i strarted to tolerate azelaic acid just fine
I just finished my azelaic acid from the ordinary and boy did it do a great job at improving my skin texture making it smooth and a little brighter. I used it in my routine every night and day just before my spf. Only problem the texture of it sucks. I found mixing it with a lightweight oil then applying gave it a luxurious texture. 🥰🥰
Thanks for all of this information, do you use after moisturiser or before, you use any other serums, and lastly what type of skin you have and which skin problem do you use Azelic acid for? Thanks
Been using Azclear (20% OTC azelaic acid) nightly for the last few weeks and it's been working amazing at helping manage breakouts on my hyper-sensitive skin!
Thank you so much dearest Dr. Idriss, I've been dealing with adult hormonal acne for a few months (as if all those teenage years were not enough, lol!) and was using topical creams like adapelene or tretinoin along with salicylic acid and even took spironolactone but still had some stubborn ones. Last time I asked my doctor to prescribe it for me and this just saved me and my skin. It works like a charm! Thank you so much for sharing this. I watch all your videos with great enthusiasm as I love learning more and more. I have purchased a whole lot of other stuff from your recommendations and my skin is happy with them! Sending so much love and appreciation to your way❤️
Honestly, the combination of a salicylic acid face wash and Azeliac Acid as a spot treatment works SO WELL for me. Or if I can see any clogged pores, I just put some on in that specific area after using a salicylic acid face wash.
So you use Azelaic acid at morning? How much frequency? 🙌🏻 when you see clogged pores you mean you put localizated azelaic acid? Like a lil pump? Not applying all over ur face? I want to try this for redness on my cheeks because of acne blemishes, but I’m wondering if I should just apply on these zones or just as a moisturizer all over the face (before my main moisturizer obviously)
@@mvvnl1ght269 I use it at night time. Or at least when the sun is down. It helps with minimizing the redness. I use The Ordinary Azeliac Acid and that quite difficult to spread all over the face. I don’t have access to a lot of Azeliac Acid products in my country so I have to make do with The Ordinary. So I just dab a tiny amount on any areas with active acne, visible clogged pores, or inflammation. Instantly makes the acne and redness less visible and speeds up the healing process quite a bit.
@@ErlonJris Thanks for answering! , I’m glad you’re doing good with it. I’ve also purchased that one from The Ordinary I’m very hopeful lol, I really want to try this on my PIE or red blemishes because of acne, I guess I’ll start with kind of localizated spreading, thank you again =) I’ve been using Cicaplast for this kind of redness and it also has helped minimizing it (there is a caution for oily skin cause it may produce clogged pores; which I haven’t experienced), my skin type is a dried sensitive combo with oily T zone.
@@mvvnl1ght269 Cicaplast has Centella Aisatica which is amazing for calming down the skin as well. The Some By Mi AHA BHA PHA 30 Days Miracle Cream has a very high concentration of Centella Aisatica along with a lot of other good ingredients. You should definitely research about this product. It soothes down my skin so fast. Alternatively, the Cosrx Centella Water Alcohol Free toner is also very gentle and amazing for calming down inflammation. I have yet to try Cicaplast, I am also fearful of facing breakouts but i’ve heard amazing things about it.
We have 2 brands that sell 20% Azelaic Acid in my country: AZA by DermaXp and Zelface. Both are very accessible in pharmacies. You can get them without prescription although the direction in the label says it should be prescribed. AZA has 2 azelaic acid products: one comes in a cream tube, and one comes in a gel bottle. The gel one feels really good on the skin, is easy to apply and comes in a 30 ml bottle. The tube one has a grainy texture. It makes it difficult to layer under any skincare products without any pilling issues, but it works better. Zelface is the overall winner in my opinion. The cream is easy to apply, and it gives really good results, especially for acne. But it does sting a little bit. Azelaic Acid is no longer my favorite ingredient, though. I find Tretinoin to be more effective at treating acne and acne marks.
In the EU, the Facetheory one is very good! High quality, 15% concentration, great price, no fragrance and is soothing with green tea leaf extract & aloe vera leaf juice, elegant formula. I love it, it works and plays well with other products.
Hi Dr Shereene Idriss 👋! I loved this video a lot.I would like to give a suggestion on whether you could do a video about Olaplex (the science behind it, what it does, benefits and more). It would be lovely and helpful to see you do a video about it. Thank you 😊 💓
I have been using the Paulas Choice Azelaic acid boost for about 4 years now. I have very sensitive skin and roseacea and it really helps calm down my flare ups.
I would like detailed videos on the two topics of "Hydroquinone" and "Fungal Acne". There's not much on both over here on RUclips. Thank you for all that you do, Dr. Shereen Idriss 🙏 Love ❤ From India 🇮🇳
I’m in the US so 15% is prescription only here. However, I ordered Lumizela A15 (15% azelaic acid) from the UK facetheory website and had it shipped. I love this product! It’s so well formulated and doesn’t cause me any irritation. My previous azelaic acid product was Naturium Topical Azelaic Acid 10%.
I love this one too! I’m in Canada and also order it from the UK site, I haven’t tried the Naturium one yet but I hear it’s great too. Have you noticed any difference between the two with your skin?
Thank you for this information! My doctor prescribed the 15% but my insurance wouldn’t cover it and it was about $300 for a month supply. I just ordered it from the uk site.
it always surprises me that u guys in the united states have adapalene 0.1% sold OTC but not azelaic acid 15% and 20% which is pregnancy safe, unlike retinoids! skinoren (specifically, azelaic acid 20%, got it OTC) has been my BFF for acne, hyperpigmentation, scars and even spot treatment❤️ in conjunction with adapalene they both do miracles for my skin great video, Dr. Idriss!😍

Azelaic acid, soolantra, tranexamic acid, green tea, licorice root, allantoin. I really recommend isntree green tea toner and aloe line as well. Add AA and tranexamic acid. Use a milk or dermo cleanser (the most important)
I’ve been using Tretinoin 1% with Niacinamide 4% nightly…wait 30 minutes, then apply Azelaic acid 20%. Both products from Dermatica…never had so many compliments about my skin
Hey, i assume you mean 0.1% Tret. I just signed up to dermatica and they sent me 0.015% tretinoin with 4% niacin inside and 5%azelaic acid. I don’t have major skin problems tbh but how do I get them to send me stronger tret. I have been using strong retinols for a while. I want 0.05% or at least 0.025
I absolutely LOOOVE and adore dr. Sam’s brightly serum. I’m currently using my second bottle after a brief pause between the first bottle and I couldn’t find a single product in the market as effective so I repurchased. My skin is so happy. The percentage of azelaic acid in that serum btw is 10%!
So when it pills on your skin, I would imagine there’s still enough product on your skin to make it effective? Or should you take steps to minimize pilling as much as possible?
I started using ZealSeal azelaic acid just a week ago and am completely blown away in how much it has improved my rosacea symptoms and has even started fading post-acne hyperpigmentation! I have very sensitive skin so I started with a tiny amount but I’m still seeing HUGE improvements (using 2x a day). Mine isn’t peeling and doesn’t stink so I guess I got lucky in picking this one! It’s also really affordable and lacks some irritating ingredients others have that I can’t use. I’m so thrilled!
Thank you for all of your information. I gave myself retinal burn. I have rosacea and dry skin. Argh! Through watching your videos I am learning so much about how to take better care of my skin. Thank you!
Hiii Doc!! I hope you're well! Here's a question, unrelated to this video: Should people with dandruff stay absolutely away from using any oil to oil their hair before shampoo?
I have been using 20% azelaic acid for years, and it's what has cleared up my acne. Never had any problems with it, no side effects for me besides some itchiness the first few months of using it. I don't have acne anymore but I still use it for prevention and the other benefits.
@@ellahanna6675 honestly not the bad big cystic acne ones that leave deep marks and scars. I had lots of pustules and pimples on my cheeks and chin, sometimes nose and forehead. When 2 pimples go away 3 more would come. I only had hyperpigmentation marks (not scars). I would say it was mid, not highly severe like some people. But my acne before was persistent, always there. Now I don't have any (except 1 every 2-3 months when I don't wash my face well lol. And it heals so much faster)
@@ellahanna6675 yes it did! and sorry I didn't really remember how long it took to clear as it had been some years ago. I think it was probably a few months in to a year, when I get to the point where I'm completely acne-free and hyperpigmentation-free. It was a process, I had to learn how much and how frequent to use the product that gives the best results (turned out it's best if I use it once everyday on my cheeks and chin, and only once every two days on the rest of my face). And I'm still using it even today
So happy to see this video…I’ve recently purchased the Paula’s Choice acid, but hadn’t quite figured out how to add it to my skin care routine…thank you! 😊

I cannot believe I only discovered your channel about a week ago! Clearly been living under a rock. But I've been binging on your videos ever since and I wanted to thank you for all your work and for spreading all this knowledge!!! Because of your content I've also managed to find ONE Azelaic product with 15% on the UK market - one from SVR Labs (sadly has a dropper though). I've ordered it so we'll see what I make of it and if it helps reduce some of my redness. Thanks again !!
AA is my all time favorite ingredient 😍 thank you for making a video about it. For anyone with rosacea I highly recommend the Lumizela Azelaic Acid Serum A10 from Facetheory (UK based brand). Beautiful formulation with so many other soothing ingredients that are a godsend for my rosacea prone skin. it's my holy grail by far that I can't live without in my routine!
@@lanaa1962 Same the first months have been horrible but at some time it was good on my skin (applied with moisturizer, oil to limit the very important tingling effect and irritation) and helps to fades some acne scars. Facetheory products seems to be very high in dosage maybe
I love the formulation from Naturium with 10% Azelaic Acid that was recommended on another channel. I will have to say it has no stink, nice formulation, no pilling AND it works. I an acne prone and do notice when I don’t use it in my routine.
I've been using Finacea gel for over a year now. When I put it on at night, I wake up with a more even tone and less redness. Apart from that, never got amazing effects on acne and spots, despite using Adapalene too in my routine. I also find it quite drying despite moisturising beforehand (everyone says how gentle it is but...) Sometimes it also stings quite a bit. What do you think about derivatives of AA such as Potassium azeloyl diglycinate?
The Paula’s Choice 10% azelaic acid booster broke me out worse very time I tried to use it! It made my existing pimples super sensitive and painful. Some of the online reviews agreed with me. Just a warning to anyone else who tries that one!
For my fellow Aussies you can get 20% azelaic acid without a prescription here from Chemist Warehouse. It’s called Azclear. The texture might annoy some people though-it dries so quickly that it is a bit hard to rub in and it stays pretty tacky after it is dry, but it’s literally changed my skin so I don’t mind the texture. It does pill a little, but it’s not too bad. I might try the 15% gel after watching Dr S give us all this excellent info though! I love azelaic acid. It’s made me a skincare junkie!
do you use every single day? im thinking to buy one but im not so sure,i want this for hyperpigmentation and black and whiteheads im 21 year old so is it okay to use every single night?
I don’t have skin problems except for a little rosacea and dryness. I couldn’t believe how much better my skin looked after using azaleic acid all over though, it’s much more even in tone/color, smoother and softer and the dryness is gone. I’m a convert, this is the only skincare product I use, except for sunscreen. My father has a skin cancer (squamous) lesion removed on average every three months, I worry that they might miss one and it will metastasize. I urged him to have the last lesion on his cheekbone area checked, it had an ugly, dark crater look, and yes, it was another one. I don’t want that. I have used daily sunscreen all over exposed skin since beginning my career as a geologist. After my first summer field (outdoor) assignment, I notice fairly extensive sun damage on my lower neck and upper chest, I was only applying sunscreen to my face then. Now, forty years later (age 61), I’m frequently told how young my skin looks, and no cancers! I put on sunscreen every day, not just when planning to spend significant time outdoors, in my climate we get lots of sun just when out doing errands, etc. If you can remember to brush your teeth, you can remember your sunscreen! I put it on while in my robe after showering and allow it to soak in before I get dressed, easy.
I have both the Rx cream & the Peach Slices 10%. Neither are irritating, nor have a fragrance. I’ve used the Rx at night and Peach Slices in the am. Both work well.
Dear dr. Idriss, could you please do a video on seborhhoic dermatitis? I have a very spread and itchy seborrhoic scalp but oily hair and I tried many things to combat it but I cant seem to find a permanent solution!

I took a break from this product because I don't know how to squeeze it in to my current routine using The Ordinary. Used this before when I was still on cerave and loved it. Sold me on this one Dr Idriss. Going back on it!
I've been using Dr. Sam Bunting's Brightly for about a year, and I LOVE it. It has minimized both hormonal breakouts and redness around my nose and mouth from perioral dermatitis.
It depends on the person, I simply use it on dry clean skin just fine but some people find that it stings a bit or makes their face feel itchy so those symptoms can be alleviated by using it over a moisturiser.

Hi! Azelaic acid has been the best discovery of the year so far. I suffer from melasma and acne despite being 41 and very dry and atopic. It hasn't cleared the breakouts or the melasma yet but it's definitely better. My question would be if azelaic acid 15% (Finacea) is enough applied once a day or is twice a day better. Also, can I apply anything before AZ or will it prevent it from working, thinking an hydrating serum since I find it quite drying. And maybe a topic for another occasion: espironolactone for acne?

@@SusanSanders-o3ni just started using azelaic acid and you should probably follow this routine: only every other evening use azelaic in this order: oil cleanse, water based cleanse, hyaluronic serum/moisturizer, azelaic acid, moisturizer
if you have to do mornings instead, do the same routine just add sunscreen at the very end
layering actives can be tricky but you shouldnt really combine actives with actives. bha and aha are strong and will increase sensitivity, and vitamin c you can use in the morning if you wash mornings. i hope this helped you since it helped me!!
with Dr Idriss videos you get:
1- a history lesson on the topic at hand and how it was discovered
2- a simplified biological lesson of the active ingredient and how it works on our body
3- and what to be careful (potential side effects), and what product brand to trust and use that are safest

I would like to see a video that shows the order of application of actives for AM and PM skin routine, namely hydroquinone, vitamin C, glycolic acid (I use those in the AM), tretinoin, niacinamide and azelaic acid (I used those at night). Thanks so much for taking up of your time to educate us 🌹
She did do a video about AM and PM routine. Not for those exactly but it’s very informative. I have it on my mirror in my bathroom.
As someone studying microbiology, I find the azelaic acid story soo cool!

All these doctors have soo much good to say about Azealic acid . I used 20 % Azealic acid for 3 months and it did nothing for my skin .
U need to have patience. It took 5 months for me to see results. Dont give up.
The Ordinary Azelaic Acid and even Skinoren work great mixed in with moisturizer and applied together. No pilling.
I'm a guy with mild, spotty rosacea with some flushing but can be controlled with diet (clean/high protein/25% fat and 25% carbs) and no dairy. I've had amazing results with:
1) morning soolantra (ivermectin)
2) evening finacea (15% azelaic acid topical gel)
I follow up with Biossance squalane oil and Eucerin moisturiser + sunscreen in the AM
At night I use finacea with squalane oil, light serum and moisturiser with peptides!
I loved retin-a, had no adverse effects APART from severely dry skin - no matter how much hydration, diet, water, even at once a week. Such a shame! but found azelaic acid (finacea) is much more suited as a mild exfoliant.
This is by far the BEST, most COMPREHENSIVE video on AA i have ever seen. Thank you Dr.

I love your thought:
Not to take its kindness as weakness. ❤
My God! Just studied ténia versicolor today, commonly caused by malassezia Globus> m. Furfur today (I'm a mbbs student)
And the doctor I look upto talks about it
What a gorgeous coincidence! ❤️
If you have normal skin and no acne and mild melasma seems to be getting better with other actives (retinoids, vitamin-c) is there any reason to add this to a skincare routine, you think?

This video came at the right time.
I started Azelaic acid in my 3rd pregnancy in 2020 at a time when my skin was really bad and it helped a lot! With breakouts and the horrid PIH/PIE
I stopped for a few months because O couldn't get it anywhere, everywhere seemed to be sold out.
That’s amazing what brand do you use?
Are you using? How's it working on your face?
I accidentally found your channel and I am hooked! Your way of explaining things with himor is amazing 👏. Thanks
FaceTheory has an AMAZING azelaic acid!
I’ve used AA (15%) for 9 months now for rosacea. It has worked wonders to calm my skin. This winter, I’m only using it five days a week because it can be drying.
I recently purchased an AA serum and it's pretty hydrating. cos de baha is the brand. Another dermatologist on RUclips recommended it.
What brand?
I use the 20% cream formula, and I have used the 15% gel formula before, and on my skin the 20% showed better results, but the doctor says the 15% is better absorbed so now I don’t know what is better.
Nice, what else do you use for rosacea?
I use 100% unrefined rosehip or jojoba oil with mines.
To add to your list of wonders - the ordinary 10% AA completely resolved my periorifacial dermatitis like nothing else ever could. It's amazing!
I very recently added azelaic acid into my routine. I'm using The Ordinary and really like the texture. I'm using it twice a day with no ill effects. I started it because of very stubborn hyperpigmentation exacerbated by aging.
Is there any great results?
Out of all the videos on this channel this is my favorite because I learned something new.

@@pikachuiswatchingyou Hi: When I had the bad reaction to Azelaic acid back in 2000, I was using another cleanser.

I’ve also purchased that one from The Ordinary I’m very hopeful lol, I really want to try this on my PIE or red blemishes because of acne, I guess I’ll start with kind of localizated spreading, thank you again =)
I’ve been using Cicaplast for this kind of redness and it also has helped minimizing it (there is a caution for oily skin cause it may produce clogged pores; which I haven’t experienced), my skin type is a dried sensitive combo with oily T zone.

I LOVE the backstory you provide with different ingredients! It’s fascinating and so helpful!!
In the EU, the Facetheory one is very good! High quality, 15% concentration, great price, no fragrance and is soothing with green tea leaf extract & aloe vera leaf juice, elegant formula. I love it, it works and plays well with other products.

I've tried ordering it online from CW and it gets to the checkout and tells me I need a prescription
I ve been using Azclear Azelaic acid 20% from chemist warehouse without any problem. I hope this percentage is safe for continuous use.
Is this 20% can be used for lifetime? Like retinol?
do you use every single day?
im thinking to buy one but im not so sure,i want this for hyperpigmentation and black and whiteheads
im 21 year old so is it okay to use every single night?
@@thequeenofcats005 I use azclear every morning and night, just start off with using it less though and you should be fine
If you would like to be glowy, try Cos De Baha azelaic acid serum. It's a Korean brand. No Pilling. At 10% very gentle but effective and hydrating.
The Paula’s Choice 10% is fantastic. Perfect for any breakouts I get
I really love your videos! Wish I lived in New York because I need a GOOD dermatologist! I have mixed autoimmune diseases including Lupus, Scleroderma and Sjogrens 😞 My skin on my face is taking a big hit. Highly sensitive and on top of it I am in menopause and the hot flashes are making my Rosacea crazy! I was wondering if you could do a video on the effects of menopause on skin and also a video on makeup for highly highly sensitive skin. I would really like to feel pretty again! Thank You!!!😊
I just bought the azelaic acid from naturium you convinced me Dr. Idriss!
Great video as always! Love your humor and all your knowledge. Thank you! Face theory has a really good azaleic acid with a great formulation. Great for my sensitive rosacea skin.
I took a break from this product because I don't know how to squeeze it in to my current routine using The Ordinary. Used this before when I was still on cerave and loved it. Sold me on this one Dr Idriss. Going back on it!
What nights should I add azelaic acid to my routine if I have sensitive skin? Glycolic acid nights or retinoid nights? What does it mix well with?
You should watch Dr. Dray’s video. 👍
I've been using Dr. Sam Bunting's Brightly for about a year, and I LOVE it. It has minimized both hormonal breakouts and redness around my nose and mouth from perioral dermatitis.
Any suggestion on how to use it properly? Can it be applied directly to clean dry skin or better to have it sit on top of moisturizer?
It depends on the person, I simply use it on dry clean skin just fine but some people find that it stings a bit or makes their face feel itchy so those symptoms can be alleviated by using it over a moisturiser.
@@morgianasartre6709 I tried both methods but the itch and dryness seem to not go away even after a few weeks using it (I use the one from Paula, two/three times a week). However, layering moisturizer is a bit better, yet still uncomfortable
@@aisyahadnan8603 That is a reason some people just don't use it, their skin is too sensitive to it and who wants to put up with constant discomfort. That's a personal decision.
@@morgianasartre6709 The constant discomfort thing is the one that got me wondering whether the itchiness and dryness that I experience all this time are supposed to appear all the time or will there be time when I tolerate it, or is it the sign that I should not go on, hence my question in the first place
@@aisyahadnan8603 I have not seen anyone say that it ever went away if they experienced it with azelaic acid, I have however seen people say that they had better luck with azelaic acid derivatives instead.
I would love to know what skin care and makeup you are using today. Your skin looks incredible and beautifully glowing in this video. 💕

Here in the EU you can definitely get the 15% Azelaic Acid without prescription - my favourite one is Metroruboril A.Z. from Isispharma (and this formula doesn't even peel and it also has licorice root extract, green tea extract, centella asiatica, niacinamide). It's pretty helpful for my rosacea, it does keep it under control.
Thank you sooo much for this recommandation. Are you applying it all over the face at night ?
@@annc9850 yes, I apply it all over my face (not the eye area tho). You don’t have to use a huge amount, just a tiny bit (I only use it once a day) - I’ve had this 30ml tube since September and we’re close to the end of February and I still have so much left.
Thanks a lot for the info, I would like to ask have you used finacea gel previously ? If so, how does it compare ? Does it sting ?
@@user-ng8xf2bu1s sorry, never used it so I can’t compare the two.
All I can say is that metroruboril 15% doesn’t sting in any way, it’s very gentle, I never experienced flakiness or irritation. Might be different for other people tho, but for me it’s been really good.
@@user-ng8xf2bu1s I use finacea. I think, finacea gel is more suitable for acne treatment. I like it, once a day at night.
I’ve been using the ordinary azelaic for maybe 4 years and I don’t have any problem with the product peeling off the skin. I prefer it than the prescription because it’s effective and way less expensive than rx which cost me USD 300 before.
Yes!! The Serendipity movie 🙌 My favourite product with this acid is Lumizela by Facetheory (this whole brand is honestly amazing!). Hugs from London x
Would love to see a skincare routine for Accutane! Or a discussion about Accutane in general!
The ordinary azelaic acid is best primer ever for oily skin! I use it for years. My skin is mat for hours
Hey Dr. Gorgeous! I was really hoping to find out how to incorporate AA into my routine...with retinol, AHA, vitamin C....
I love azelaic acid I used it with my hormonal acne when I was pregnant and it worked wonders. I continued to using it af
I’m glad it worked well =) how much frequency did you use azelaic acid? only AM + moisturizer?
I have folliculitis and had it for like 6 years on my legs and I have had a lot of depression & lots of tears. My husband finally made me go to dermatologist and now I’m taking oral pills and just got my Azelaic Acid gel 15% witch was the first time I ever heard of this gel. Watching your video is giving me a lot of hope. I have white spots all over my legs and is more shown in the summer time. And have problems with ingrowns and white pimple looking bumps. So hoping this gel works. But watching your video has given me a lot of hope. Thank you for this video ♥️ 🙂
Have you tried laser hair removal? I used to have a lot of ingrown hair, same as you, I was applying foundation on my legs. I use Aha body lotion to help with my spots, but laser hair removal have helped me a lot! Best thing ever!
it works?
PC Acid is amazing. If I add it too thick it stings … otherwise it didn’t cause any irritation like glycolic sometimes does. Also I like the matte effects! So far my favorite product.
