I used to apply my moisturizer first. For the past week, I started to let go the moisturizer step, turning to one night with retinol and the other night Azelaic acid which seemed to work better. Is there any moisturizing effect with those 2 or do we absolutely need a moisturizer at night on top? With time I realized that when there are too many active ingredients at once I feel that I am loosing control without being able to target the irritation ingredient. Dr. Sam, I really appreciate the information you provide about Azeliac Acid. I have rosacea and my dermatologist prescribed Finacea. My skin reacts badly when using this gel. My skin gets itchy and fills with little white heads. I was told that the reaction is due to a "normal purge". I've purchased a couple of creams wirh a lower concentraton (10% instead of 15% azeliac acid) and I applied it only at night time. Sorry to say that I get the same reaction. Over the azeliac acid I wear my regular moisturizer (Khiels) which I have been using for years. Any tip you could provide me with? I truly feel that my skin does better without any acids or actives. Your help will be greatly appreciated.
Try to apply it over serum , hyaluronic acid for example . Or over toner . You can skip moisturizer though , unless you feel you need extra hydration and soothing , especially in winter . I just started using azelaic acid , paulas choice 10% booster . It made my skin dry and sensitive , even though I got combo to oily skin , even with moisturizer . Over hyaluronic acid it feels great , no redness , no breakouts or dryness , I skip moisturizer. Also it depends on your moisturizer , may b something in ingredients doesn't work well with azelaic acid .
I have started skinoren since two weeks but i am facing alot of bumps which few of them turn into whiteheads and rest are bumps all over my chin area and upper lips Is it purging ? Or irritation ? What should i do ? Should i stop or continue using please do reply me i am really worried

Hi, i have been using Facetheory 10% Azelaic acid since 4 weeks and 4 days now. I had cleared my cystic acne since last three months. But started using it to tackle hyperpigmentation. But i started purging immediately after few days of starting azelaic acid. I got about 7 cystic and nodular acne which were very painful. These cystic acne are healing now but left red marks behind 😢. My problem is it has also covered my face in tiny comedones (skin colored bumps). I am thinking whether i should stop using azelaic acid or wait for 6 weeks mark to see if it is actually purging. Please can anyone give me any suggestion. TIA
Hi, I don't think the comedones are caused by the azelaic acid, its the other ingredients in it that could be the culprit. Try using the azelaic acid from the brand Q+A, very clean minimal ingredients.
Well this answers 2 things, it does nothing for lines & I'm too inconsistent. I regularly use salacydicAcid, I don't really have much of an issue with complexion or zit/acne so I don't know if I need to spend my sparse $ on this?
This acid is for people with dark spots, rosacea and uneven skin tone. If you are looking for something to help with wrinkles then go for peptides, collagen, vitamin c, renitol etc.
Azaleas acid … Christ on a bike this one was tough for me!!! 😂 My journey took 2 years (!!!) before the stinging stopped. I had to switch tretinoin & and azelaic morning & evening so I cloud sleep through the stinging. But this Devine ingredient was a game changer! The all over sensitivity is almost gone and the completion is sooo even. Rarely pustules or flushes. 🙌🏻

I know you said that azelaic acid lessens skin sensitivity, but for me, even 10% seems to make my skin peel and burn...
Try a skin barrier repair cream (my latest video mentions a few) before introducing an active at a high level
I use 15% gel for rosacea and I totally noticed what you said, on the long term it has made my skin much more resilient.
It improves a lot the texture too!
I feel that alone it is not enough to really get clear skin and as anti age or to support collagen, but on the other hand I am a bit afraid to introduce vit c, salicylic acid or other actives with rosacea prone skin on top of azelaic
Try a gentle retinoid first - check out. our Retinoid playlist for guidance. Flawless Nightly Serum is a great place to start as it combines calming azelaic acid with a gentle retinoid.
So welcome!
@@DrSamBuntingis it okay to use Azelaic Acid 20% from Skinoren, every other day or I should use it everyday?
my AM routine
Cleanser
Benzoyl Peroxide 5% Gel-cream (Benzac)
Azelaic Acid 20% Cream (Skinoren)
Sunscreen
Im using Azelaic Acid for 5 weeks now (every other day)
Hello Dr Sam. I do alternate retinol (neutrogena 0,3%, as I can not tolerate Olay retinol 24)and Azelaic acid (finacea) at night because I have quite sensitive skin. In the morning, I use vit C, day moisturizing cream and sunscreen 50. Should I add Azelaic acid and where in my day regimen? Thank you for your help!
How do we do the 13 dot technique if we are using a serum and not a cream? I just got the Cos de Baha 10% serum.
Hi, Dr Sam. In Australia I can buy 20% strength Azelaic acid cream over the counter. I use it religiously every night to treat my rosacea. Should I use it in the morning as well? Also, when using other serums should the Azelaic acid cream go under or on top of any serum I use?
I love Azclear but I can only use it on its own. I find it pills badly if I team it up with moisturiser.
Isso é forte? Hahaha
What’s the brand and name of product please?
@@melt2947I'm guessing they were talking about Azclear since it's 20% and that's the only product other than Finacea (15%) that I'm aware of here in Australia. 🙂
i’m contemplating AA bc i have annoying closed comedones that won’t go away. i’m currently using tretinoin and already went through a tretinoin purge long ago. will i still purge if i start AA?
Did it work?
How did you go
Heloo doc I’m using finacea foam 15% recommend by my doctor and now my skin is breaking out tooo much what should I do?
I have started skinoren since two weeks but i am facing alot of bumps which few of them turn into whiteheads and rest are bumps all over my chin area and upper lips
Is it purging ? Or irritation ? What should i do ? Should i stop or continue using please do reply me i am really worried
Hi kanwal, can you please give me an update? Did you use it on your full face? Did it get better?
I use 15% Azelaic Acid in my Tretinoin formula with Niacinimide . The combination with a Retinoid and Azelaic Acid is chefs kiss . I use a multiactive serum AM with 5% Azelaic Acid , it's such a superstar ! Love your content and thanks ❤😊👏🙌
It breaks me out so bad every time I use it. I hear the benefits of azelaic acid all the time but I guess my skin is just meant for it.
It could be the formulation, my husband has extremely sensitive skin and we have used Azelaic acid to treat his rosacea and I find Cos De BAHA Azelaic acid to be a very gentle but extremely effective product, it took 3 months of daily use but it worked. Consider changing formulations
Which azeliac acid u used ? And ur face break out in bumps or big huge pimples
We like evangelical dr. Sam 😊
So how long does it take for it to stop burning my face
For me it took a little over a week. Be careful to just use a pea sized amount, and every other day, until your skin has adjusted.
Hi Dr sam please can u help I have erythematotelangiectatic on my cheeks all my life with dry sensitive skin it's on my cheeks but wen ever I apply azalic acid it really makes my cheeks more red and burns ? Is that ingredient suitable for me or I it more for oily skin something I don't suffer with????? Please can u even give me a yes or no if azalic acid is for me ?
We would say that while your Rosacea is active, it's not wise to introduce any new products. We'd advise you to see your doctor about getting treatment.
Once your Rosacea is under control you should then be fine to use our products.
If you have any further questions or there is anything else we can do for you, please let us know!
@DrSamBunting I have ordered your moisturizer intense is that suitable for me?
I have a lot of closed comedones + oily skin recently and started using Paula’s choice AA a week ago.
My skin is even oilier/I have more closed comedones and blackheads. No redness or sensitivity. Is this a purge of all the gunk coming to the surface, or am I reacting badly to the product?
the purge will last only for a few week and then you'll see ur skin getting better , you are not using it badly it's just the purge everyone experiences using AA
Dr Sam, may i know that if azelaic acid works well with vit c or retinol? I want to incorporate AA into my skincare routine but dunno if i pair it with vit c in am or layer on top of retinol in the evening would cause any side effects or not?
VIT C + azelaic acid in the AM and retinol at night - she had mentioned this in one of her videos where she talks about layering azelaic acid with other actives
@@ishita8873 Thank you!
I have the prescription foam and use every other evening but I can’t say i noticed anything 🫤maybe I’ll try in morning too
Hi, i have been using Facetheory 10% Azelaic acid since 4 weeks and 4 days now.
How is your skin now?
im using the 10% azelaic acid from inkey list and facing the same problem... have you found out if it's purging or an actual breakout?
Well this answers 2 things, it does nothing for lines & I'm too inconsistent. I regularly use salacydicAcid, I don't really have much of an issue with complexion or zit/acne so I don't know if I need to spend my sparse $ on this?
If you don't have rosacea/blackheads/uneven texture that bothers you, don't bother with it.
This acid is for people with dark spots, rosacea and uneven skin tone. If you are looking for something to help with wrinkles then go for peptides, collagen, vitamin c, renitol etc.
@@lavienestpasunlongfleuvetr2559 Ok, I don't so this is a HUGE help! I hate spending money where I need it in so many other places! Thank U
@@diopfifi4937 Ok, I do everything but Vit C (retinol isn't from dermatologist, it's a 1% serum I just started). This helps alot, thank you for this
Azaleas acid … Christ on a bike this one was tough for me!!! 😂
My journey took 2 years (!!!) before the stinging stopped. I had to switch tretinoin & and azelaic morning & evening so I cloud sleep through the stinging. But this Devine ingredient was a game changer! The all over sensitivity is almost gone and the completion is sooo even. Rarely pustules or flushes.
🙌🏻
We are so happy to hear it has worked so well for you! ❤
Hi Dr.sam can you talk about LPP
Hi. Can I use my a.acid with my Rozex cream. If so what order.
I find a.acid stings my face slightly so always put off using it. X
If you are using prescription medication for your Rosacea, you will need to discuss the introduction of new products with your prescribing physician.
We would always recommend consulting your prescribing physician for suitable products to use alongside your treatment.
If you have any further questions or there is anything else we can do for you, please let us know!
i tried using thr azelaic acid from inkey list but it made me break out..
What?
this was a good information, thank you for sharing, I'm glad azelaic acid works for me together with tranexamic, glutathione and aloe to name a few. I'm using the Unspotted night serum by Lion Pose. Bought it from Sephora.
I hate it when I accidentally get it on my lips! (Don't use the same finger to apply lipbalm!)
I've been using azelaic acid for quite a few months now (Inkey, 10%) - mainly once a day - and have seen no benefits, my skin is as red as it has always been. I've now upped it to twice a day over the past month but haven't seen any difference. I'm not very hopeful its going to make any difference to my skin 😞
Try increasing the concentration to 20% maybe?
I use the ordinary..i saw a big dif after 1 night. I like tge velvety feel of it. I have rosacea w acne. Maybe try a dif company. Ialso use sulphur...de la cruz 10% sulphur. I stopped using noritate bc it didnt help and got flare ups....
@annabeleh347 Same for me with the product of the Inkey List. I use the one from Q+A currently and seems better than the one from the Inkey. Reduces smalls bumps.
13 dot technique always reminds me of 5 minute abs. Why not 4 minutes, or maybe 6 minutes!?
I've been using it every day for the past 50 days, but I feel it was great in the first 2 weeks max, including on my PMS acne.
it dried out all my pimples, and then it just stopped showing any kind of results.
now my period is back and my chin is full of painful red acne again 💔💔 and I have some red dots on my cheeck, just like before I started using it. last week I had also a really bad perioral dermatitis episode together with my PMS acne 🤡🤡
can i use AHA with AA? or would that be too strong/irritating on the skin?
