This is the perfect opportunity, Dr Sam, for me to thank you for recommending Azelaic acid to me in a comments section to one of your past videos. I had shared on that occasion that nothing seemed to be be helping with my erythematotelangiectatic rosacea and the terrible, terrible hours-ling, painful flushing it causes. I had thought, as had my GP, that Azelaic acid is only helpful for Papular pustular rosacea, but you said you thought otherwise and suggested I give it a try... Well, I have and it has made all the difference to my skin, which, after only one week, has markedly less redness and (as you like to say) my 'smoke alarm in the kitchen' no longer 'goes off' quite as readily whenever 'the kettle boils'! :-) I'm so grateful to you! Your information is always so practical and helpful. And, you present it in a clear, easy to follow way and with beautiful imagery (eg your face, lighting, composition, etc). Thanks!
According to Paula’s Choice, their peptides “can be layered with any other skin-beneficial ingredients.” It’s the copper peptides (which theirs doesn’t include) that shouldn’t be mixed with azelaic acid. If you use Hyaluronic and azelaic acid, I’ve seen it recommended that you use Hyaluronic first so your skin absorbs and locks in the moisture. This is how I do it. This is what PC says about Azelaic acid: “Azelaic acid products ‘play’ well with others, meaning you can layer it into your routine without worry that the azelaic acid will overpower or deactivate other ingredients.” I believe it’s the more potent Azelaic acids that you have to be care about layering. I see you commented a year ago but hope this helps you or someone else. PC has a ton of really informative articles on their site (accessed from their menu) about each ingredient, if you want to learn more. Yep, I’m a total PC geek, and have been a diehard fan for years! Lol.

As an Aesthetician, I would never recommend using Azelaic during the day. Even with SPF protection, it makes you very photo sensitive due to its cell turnover encouragement. Because of this, it can actually increase sun damage and hyperpigmentation especially on those with acne scarring or active acne! It's much better used as a night time treatment while skin is resting ad regenerating. Just my thoughts!
I got it and it is made in Italy. It's so good. I immediately sensed the effect after applying it. Tonight I applied BHA and then Az acid cream. Still I have no irritation.

@@NYS30 stinging yes but no itching. Not sure about purging because I already had hormonal acne and started with retin a as well. And now my face is like 70% better. Both in respect to rosacea and acne.
Hope that helps.
You are actually the first person I ever heard mention azelaic acid years & years ago, on a video w either Caroline Hirons or the Pixiwoo ladies. :) Nothing has ever helped my rosacea more. I just started it this year, but I wish I had started it years ago
Thank you also for your fab products... especially Flawless Gossamer Tinted, which has finally given me a sunscreen I actually enjoy wearing! It feels more like the perfect face-brightening cosmetic than some kind of boring 'necessity'. You nailed it! 🥰

I cannot tell you how hopeful I am now that I have found your channel. I was able to get a script for the Azelaic Acid from dermatologist and I am finally getting relief. I was experiencing such horrible nerve pain on my T zone with the Rosacea - it was intolerable. I was at the end of my rope really. I got the perioral dermatitis from the stupid masks. Suffered for 1 1/2 years with that. Finally went away but it turned into Rosacea. I am getting relief. The pain is not as bad but will be also trying Acupuncture tomorrow. Can azelaic acid be used in the same routine as peptides? I have heard peptides and acids shouldn't be used together.
Is the peptides mixed with your moisturizer? That would be great 👍
According to Paula’s Choice, their peptides “can be layered with any other skin-beneficial ingredients.” It’s the copper peptides (which theirs doesn’t include) that shouldn’t be mixed with azelaic acid.
If you use Hyaluronic and azelaic acid, I’ve seen it recommended that you use Hyaluronic first so your skin absorbs and locks in the moisture. This is how I do it.
This is what PC says about Azelaic acid:
“Azelaic acid products ‘play’ well with others, meaning you can layer it into your routine without worry that the azelaic acid will overpower or deactivate other ingredients.” I believe it’s the more potent Azelaic acids that you have to be care about layering.
I see you commented a year ago but hope this helps you or someone else. PC has a ton of really informative articles on their site (accessed from their menu) about each ingredient, if you want to learn more.

For mature skin which is better for one who uses Trentenoin, Azelaic acid or Lactic acid?
As an Aesthetician, I would never recommend using Azelaic during the day. Even with SPF protection, it makes you very photo sensitive due to its cell turnover encouragement. Because of this, it can actually increase sun damage and hyperpigmentation especially on those with acne scarring or active acne! It's much better used as a night time treatment while skin is resting ad regenerating. Just my thoughts!
That’s incorrect - azelaic acid does not photosensitize and is perfectly safe for daytime use.

But as she said avoid using azelaic if already using retinoid in routine, so as tretinoin is a retinoid itself so it should be avoided I guess.
You can use both just not at the same time! I do azelaic in the morning and sometimes at lunchtime too as it can be used twice a day! And then I use differin at night.
