Regarding the advice: if it is good or not, depends on the perspective and what you want to achieve. If you want happy longtime stakeholders with long term befenits for a strategic orientation of a company, you probably should not withhold information like you said. If you want to reduce further cost as much as possible, every further amount of action results in deficit to "your" money you got from the kickstarter. As well as every other action that could possible reduce potential income and existing budget. So withholding information is pretty much key here. Because 1) it's an action that costs money/time and 2) it shows how many other actions already failed and cost money without success. Keep them blind and don't let yourself cought by giving leverage. Basically, if you already have you want and are in now way forced to do more: you are easily able to fuck over your customers you don't need anymore anyway. I'd say it's pretty damn good advice!
Should mention Flyos, Michael. It was left to their distributors to tell us that asia/oceania has gone from being first to arrive to second fricking wave. So many instances like this, not to mention their endless errata list. No more business from me.
Thank you for this video! I do hope that publishers (even the good publishers) take these matters seriously. It's not just a matter of establishing communication with your backers; it's also a matter of honesty and transparency. Anything else falls into the disingenuous category; anyone with half a brain can instantly spot that.
I backed Windard big box, still haven't received anything. I asked fun again about my order at the end of last year, they said they're going to ship it soon, then I was waiting for months and nothing so I sent another message and they said they don't have any orders with my details. Then I sent an e-mail to Daniel a month ago, he still haven't replied. I tried to be patient I wasn't bombing him with dozens of e-mails like some of the other backers... Someone in the Windward comment section mentioned that Zatu is doing the fulfillment in the UK so contacted them and they said now they are waiting for comfirmation from Daniel and then send me my game... So it's not so promising because seems like Daniel doesn't reply to any e-mails..
They should have communicated. There is no reason to not be transparent to backers who paid ahead of time. I did get mine here in Canada, but had no idea there were issues, had assumed everything had got delivered. Once again, Fun Again screwed up things. It just sucks they are screwing over a lot of publishers and backers along the way.
Thanks for posting this video. UPS lost my copy of frosthaven. It took 1 month for Cephalofair to respond my ticket. They say that they will send me another copy. But how come a company that makes 12M in a kickstarter not to be ready for something like this??
especially with a retail presence! It's more understandable if it's KS only as they only have so many spare, but they should have access to stuff like this on a regular occurrence if it's retail too.
Desperation at SFG and LMS. SFG hyped their opening of the “Vault” to Wrestlemania levels only to discover it’s a sneaky preorder page for “exclusives” some which aren’t really worth the money…a $50 crocodile anyone? What a load of CROC! LMS snuck around KS and went to GF for a DEI reprint campaign, the comments on GF are worth reading.
Knight models (games) is the worst. Their catch the snitch game is only partly delivered. You should see the comments in KS and people mad in their batman game. The biggest issue is they changed the size of their minis after promises of keeping them 35mm to match the mini game.
Yeah that was horseshit. Promising 35mm so you can use with the Harry Potter miniatures game and then they fork us in the arse. Plus many of the minis were broken. I cancelled my Escape Arkham for that reason. Plus that Catch the Snitch was the worst campaign I've ever been in and I've been in more than 535 campaigns.
Honestly, it has all the appearance of them abandoning the project at the end. Honest communication would have alleviated a lot of angst, but they don’t seem to care.
Absolutely! KnightModels are not playing a honest game anymore. They try to keep backers quite so new backers don't see what they do! Absolutely one of the worst company and campaign I backed... :-(
I’ll add this, the fact they were deleting comments regarding Catch the Snitch during the Arkham game campaign should be a red flag, but backers go blind when they see a product they want and ignore bad behavior until it smacks them right between the eyes.
I'm so glad I got my copy long ago. I had no idea this was going on. You're right that backers don't come back to the comments. I'll only come back if it's a non-boardgame campaign that I haven't opened yet, and I want to see if people have complaints about it (especially if I was going to gift it to someone)
What makes this even worse is it's affecting two games, Age of Atlantis and the Windward expansion. Both campaigns are full of comments from people who have either not received anything, or received partial/incorrect pledges. There are far more than 75 people missing what they paid for, and if it was that few why not just refund them?
Paverson Games had to hustle with Distilled fulfillment when Fun Again went belly up, kept their backers updated through the whole process, and got them to backers just a couple months late. They did an awesome job. Sorry people had to deal with this for this game.
I backed Windward (expansion) and Legend Academy. I wasn't worried at delays because stuff happens and I got other things coming in. The absolute silence really irks me though. As intense as you get on this KOA you need to make sure not to look into all the lies, theft, and gaslighting the government has been doing. Makes the boardgame issues look like a bunch of rookies.
Coverage of these projects is always good, but sometimes your channel feels a bit like the drama channel. Sit down, eat popcorn and watch people go crazy about stuff in kickstarter projects! Let's hope that some day this kind of coverage is less necessary. Btw the Sorcerer Endbringer project might also be a fun look worth covering.
I don't agree with talking about issues. Talk about how you're overcoming issues. Show people you're a problem solver, not a complainer. Or ask for advice from your backers to brainstorm if you're stuck. Nothing is more demoralizing than having to read an update where you just talk about issues, as a backer (knowing your money is in the toilet). Show people what you, as a company, are doing about those issues when you're confronted with them.
The problem is, most of the time they aren't doing anything about these issues that benefit the backers, so why communicate that. Why say "I only worked on this issue 1 hour a week" when you could say "I worked 2-3 hours every day on this issue". Even if it's a blatant lie, plenty of people will still believe it but even if a majority doesn't believe it, only a minority of backers will actually call you out. So if you launch your next campaign, people see how hard you have been working if they would check updates but not comments (if they aren't already censored by then). Most of these companies aren't problem solvers, that's the real issue, and they just slug around until it all hits the fan.
@@bassmeo3937 is there anyone out there yet, who checks only updates but no comments underneath? It's like the easiest way to call the company on a bs.

People have certain expectations going into backing stuff. If you cannot fulfill them well... that's not their problem, it's yours.
As intense as you get on this KOA you need to make sure not to look into all the lies, theft, and gaslighting the government has been doing. Makes the boardgame issues look like a bunch of rookies.
Ooof, a real clusterfuck :-/
Sadly yes :(
"Ignornat"?
Fixed :D
:D
Show people what you, as a company, are doing about those issues when you're confronted with them.
good clarification!
@@bassmeo3937 If people were problem solvers, our world wouldn't be a shithole it is now.
@@bassmeo3937 is there anyone out there yet, who checks only updates but no comments underneath? It's like the easiest way to call the company on a bs.
