- It has been a long time since my 1982 Golf Mk1 has been featured on the channel. After the engine swap series I ran into some trouble which resulted in the car sitting behind locked doors for a while. But today we're going to change that

There is almost nothing better than eating dinner and watching Memphis‘ videos💪🏻
I definitely agree with that
Florian L. Can’t more agree with you, truly good guy!
I'd prefer to see a video on restoring the wheels in a “cheap“ way with rattle cans, since I don't own a spray gun, air compressor or any of the equipment. I would love to see tips and tricks on restoring wheels in that way, since I'd like to tackle such job myself one day. :) Whichever method you'll choose, I'll watch the video. :)
@@ifixed_ please talk english
Tons of videos on how to do that on youtube. Using all that equipment makes for better results, so if he can use them, he should :D
Chrisfix posted a video on painting rims
finally more golf, its a beauty
6:43 ah classic belgian roads.
Damn the look on your face was like ow sh*t something is about to break.
My first car I bought directly after getting my license is a 1985 VW Passat B2 Hatchback. Glad to hear you have owned yours for 8years. Looking forward to own mine for another 7 years. March marks 1 year.
Finally! Bro respect from Serbia❤
3:50 yes do that
poz dejo kralju
@@alekfromupwork7646 poyy bratee
@Cristian Enea thanks bro❤
znaci ima nas :D
@@NidzaGaming nadje se po koji😂😂
For some reason when I watch your videos I get an 80s vibe, free time travel.
Beautiful job on your mk1, loved the video. Such a shame that Belgium has such strict regulations for adaptations on cars/oldtimers...
it is the same in Denmark :(
it's even worse in Serbia
Same in romania
Funnily enough, also in Italy.
I think that the only way that you can legally change tire size here is to get the measures approved by the manufacturer, fit the wheels, test them with a dmv supervisor and get that written into the registration book.
Nice work, greetings from Germany🇩🇪
Glad to hear that the struts actually works, so now i will do this on my Golf Cabrio -89 who flex like an Brasilian carneval 🤘🏽 Thanks! Greatings from Sthlm Sweden.
Do a properly restoration please!!! Greetings from Argentina 🇦🇷👋 Amazing videos!!
Thank you for actually putting effort in the quality of your videos!
Hey Memphis, tuning in from Australia. Hard to find MK1 Golfs here so its good see one be modified on RUclips. Cheers man keep up the good videos. :)
those wide steelies actually look really good im surprised
Great video, Memphis. Nice to see the strut tower braces make a difference. I was already thinking of that for the old Volvo. Seeing this, that will be happening along with other chassis upgrades once the body is restored to as new. 617,000 kilometers and 32 Ontario, Canada winters have taken a toll. Still, nice to see videos like this that inspire.
hey Memphis, love watching your videos. With regards to the wheels, please don't do it cheaply for our sake, YOU have the tools and skills available to make your car the best it can be for you, so I vote a proper sprayjob/restoration for the wheels with the spray gun and compressor. Do it right, do it once.
Trying to remove spraypaint off a wheel later on will be a pain in the ass, I've had to do it a few times, and honestly just wished the previous owners left them in whatever state they were,
best of luck, and keep up the good work.
Awesome mk1. I highly recommend getting the lower "k" style chassis brace for any mk1 (if you don't have one yet). It makes the biggest difference IMO. Even more than the top brace.
What a beautiful Mk1 Golf. Fantastic condition: I wouldn't want to be drilling into the bodywork to fit the rear strut brace & risk encouraging rust.
Knap werk !
Any method you’ll choose will be good! Nice work. Greetings from Croatia. 🇭🇷
Good video - I learned something today. My Mk1 Jetta made the exact same engine noise as yours. Now I know it's an overly-tight timing belt. I'll be sure to adjust it next time I take it out. Thanks Memphis!
By the way - I cannot believe how draconian the laws are in Belgium when it comes to car customization. Regardless, the car looks great with what you have to work with. Really like the new wheels - very BBS looking.
The real painting is with the spray gun ;)
Yes to that, I would prefer full restoration with spray gun. Like videos n keep up the good job. Much love from Kenya.
maybe do both methods of wheel restoration one side of the car with rattle cans the other spray gun. so where able to compare the difference...
Matt Buckland yeah and see the result after a year or so.
BWA are a subsidiary company to BBS, so they are a good buy at €150 👍🏻👏🏻
Anyone else cry when they seen him pull the drill out and use it on that beautiful car?
Very nice my dad has one but the GTI version
Beautiful!
Yay, a mk1 episode 👍
Oh I thought Belgium wasn't that strict but that sounds awful. I've got a 16v ABF swapped mk2 with bigger brakes, coilovers, poly bushings etc. Proper wheels coming soon and it's fully street legal in Finland. Lowering can also be done to 80mm ground clearance legally. Some cars are even less than 11cm stock.....
Cheddar555 Im from Germany and i thought our laws were strict but Belgium seems to be on a whole different level
@@burgholte Yeah exactly. Sounds a bit overkill to me.
That is one beautiful car
I am so happy I found your channel
How about finding my channel? 😅
those mesh wheels would look awesome with plastic nut covers and centers from the OEM 85' steelies, keep it up man.
Dude, those rims might be a bit rough, but they are f**king awesome!
That's so cool and learning, now i started my dream came true like you.
Amazing car , greetings from Florida 🤘🏽
good job boi ❤️ greetings from Slovenia 🇸🇮
Très belle golf mk1
Félicitations 👍👍👍👍
Regards from Brazil man! Nice work with the mk1!
GORGEOUS!
Cheap way or spray gun way, they should look mint!
I'm watching this for inspiration on my new Cabriolet
You should look into a four point lower strut brace. Should do wonders for handling and rigidity
if u can find wheel caps with bbs logo it looks great. nice cars nice channel (Y)
Enjoy these always, keep up the good work!
Well done mate, i love your work
Great car, but change those seats with ones that have headrests! You can be the best driver, but if someone hits you from behind, your neck will be in danger. Plus if you find some with more grip it will feel so much better on curves :) my 2 cents
Just saw the seats change episode. Great job :)
my dream car!
Great Video, I love the way your Golf looks now. And the mic in the engine bay was a superb idea! I think with the current look, some auxilary Lamps on the front would really set your MK1 off. Cheers from Luxembourg:)
Finally ❗️
Print Centercap with a D3 printer, My Friend dit that for me wheels 👌🏻
These belgium laws are so stupid, i wouldnt like to live in this country lol
that's why some people have stickers who said : Tuning is not a crime.... So no hot rod in legality here
bruh moment I'm living in belgium and they let me having a truck air horn in my oldtimer car so whatever bruh
Same in hungary...
Nice looking car. I have a mk1 cabby myself. Should have put the nuts on the inside for that rear brace. They will rust and seize on the outside making it harder to remove in the future.
Succes!
Love this sir. Keep it up. Great job with the info, video and install.👍🏾@memphis
You can use the center caps of an Ronal LS's rims. Are close the same and fits perfect
Vicent Fabra thx for the tip
Nice mods, dude! Like your videos about that oldschool Golf, kinda reminds me about good days, when i was driving mk2 Jetta.
Love old cars, it is good to see them in a nice shape after all the years on a road.
Oh, by the way, greetings from Ukraine!)
Like the mark I, if you are going to take it on the track you might consider fitting a larger radiator, if memory serves the GTI radiator will offer the required cooling. If that is still not sufficient then you can add an oil cooler. I like the channel, keep it up.
Awesome video mate! had the same noise with my mk2 after changing water pump and CAM BELT :)
the pro way!
When you buy rims or tyres check romanian market... is full of rims of all types and sizes :))
Just found your channel ✌
Nice rims Stino! Huzze-95 approves!
Hand spray would make for a better finish. But it's all about the prep work.. Enjoying your videos young man...👍😀
Go with the "cheap" version pls!!
Well done brother! Greetings from Belarus!)
5:33 is this a Golf or a Fiero now?
Is that a Ronald Finger reference?
Good stuff man! Shame about the old wheels but loving the current ones and that lip too!
With the centre caps look into either a 3d print or enlist a machine shop to turn some custom metal ones, maybe even with your Memphis logo on them
Ur videos are my favourite thing to watch on the internet. I wanna see more of that mk1 Jetta tho! P.s: I think cheap restoration would me more interesting but if it will leave a noticeable difference in finish then maybe the pro way is the way to go 🤷♂️
I can not wait to see another episode of your BMW restoration.
You should go with the classic Deutsche look black inside and polished lip.
Another great video fair play keep up the good work!
On rear you can put golf mk4 seat or skoda rear breke disc with brake caliper the brake holder wil bolt on your stock rear axle beam
Nice work, greetings from Portugal
You should restore them with spray can/clear coat, it's more relevant to the DIY'ers, concerning the overheating, you should upgrade the radiator, and cooling fans, you should be able to retrofit from a later golf MK2 or MK3, you might need to do the mounting hardware yourself, also change the thermostat with one that opens earlier, let's say 80 degrees Celsius instead of the more commong 87-88 C, the Aftermarket code for the one that opens at 80c on MAHLE is TX1380D
Nice ride
Now the cops will stop the Jetta, damn
Wow your laws are really stupidly strict over there!! 🙈 I can understand the concerns of inexperienced and or unqualified people carry out some of the mods not allowed, but a lot of them add more safety to the vehicle. Awesome content young man. Keep it up!!👍🏻
Your accent sounds like Jean Claude Van Damme lol guess bcoz he's also from Belgium...Nice content Memphis...
Man can't believe how strict they are out there!
nice video and beautiful car. But one piece of advice. Please do not use a spirit level when mounting these kind of things on a car. If your garage floor/ jackstands weren't perfectly level your stablilizer bar would've come out crooked.
If you are planning to go to more track days the mods you did are nice....but for the best bang for buck track gains just buy some more sport oriented tires. Unfortunatly for your stated tire size there isnt that much to choose from... I guess your best choise would be a Continental SportContact 2.
Also brakes are good next step as you stated yourself.
can you tell me the colour code please? I mean i know it's nardo, but what is the colour code exactly on this particular golf?
Try a lower front bar if you don’t have one to box in the front suspension. That should make a bigger improvement to the handling!
I prefer to see a thorough sand and polish restoration
You said you needed an alignment after you added the wheels. I'm thinking about adding a strut bar and wondering if it will still need an alignment. Being a convertible there really isn't much to do for stability
Hey mate, I came accross your channel and so far I am loving it. Despite English is not your first language, and either is mine, I can fully understand you and your content is definitely genuine and hilarious, RUclips needs more car enthusiast like you.
I may have the possibility to live in Germany, I am aware you are in Belgium, but I was curious to ask how much should I expect to pay for a Mk1 or Mk2 Golf with TUV and registration, considering that it drives but there may be some mechanical things to fix. I have looked on Mobile.de, Autoscout24 and Marketplace but I am a little bit lost in pricings.
Now I am currently living in New Zealand, but Germany has always been a dream for me, and what better car to enjoy throughout Europe doing road trips than a Golf, I used to have a Mk3 1.8 GL that I still miss.
Thanks in advance and sorry for asking so much. Keep up the content and stay true to yourself!
Cheers!
Agustín Elorriaga i think 2-3000 should be possible
Great video one more time! In Spain happen’s the same with the modifications, it’s a big shit!
Sorry but i prefair the wide steelies wheels. Congratulations!
Drums to disk brakes conversion for the breaking power?
Try fitting bigger radiator from 1.6 TD this will help with the cooling
Love your page. I am building a Golf MK1 Cabriolet. Can you please tell me where you bought the thin molding that replaced the OEM on the doors and fenders? Thanks in advance
Hey, im looking to buy a 1991 cabriolet with 130k miles here in fl .
I was wondering how reliable this car is? Im looking at an auto transmission one.
Unrelated comment but you look very much like a young Dean Stockwell.
Wow, Belgium is a bit depressing. Really makes you be creative. However, I LOVE THE CAR
Super video!
Great video as always Memphis! , BWA = Benzoni Wheels Accessories (Milano, Italy), you can check ebay.it for some center caps.As the wheels do have some curb rash you can easily remove it with a file if you can jack up the front of your car you can make this very neatly like it was mounted in a lathe.Good luck!!!
do a performance cam would love to see a video on that
Oh yeah I do love these videos
