- As Luke the Lone Wolf heads into the high mountains he can tell that there has been a shift in the weather and that rain and storms are coming.
In this adventure, he and his equipment face major storms, flooding rains, lots of thunder and lightning and has to deal with a defective tent that leaks.

KEEPING IT REAL! ! ! Great job!
I just checked 15 minutes ago and this tent is no longer available on Amazon.
Needs a Tasters Nasty link. 🤪
I tend to think it failed! A tent should never leaked during rain, even hard rain that you received!
I NEED HELP for sunny condition what is better a dark or a bright tent colour? Btw the thrunite flashlight i won from your giveaways Luke is still working awesome and its in use! Thanks again! Chrono trigger is calling you ^^ my friend!
I dunno what you changed about your camera, lens, or shooting/editing style, but the quality on this is stunning! Feels like a sin to watch it on my phone.
It was even better on my 27" iMac. Almost 3D!
was abaout to comment that too.
Agreed. It looked so real on my TV that it was almost unreal, like amazing 4k video game graphics or something.
I thought the same. Looks great!
Is the camera gear listed anywhere? I am amazed at his camera and his filming ability. Beautiful!
Luke: "don't do what I'm doing"
Every guy watching this: "I'mma gonna do that this weekend" 😂
Explain to me how a single camper just walking through the quiet woods can hold your attention so we'll.Only Luke can.💯👌✌️
Any tent that leaks is a fail in my books. I like your format & your honesty. Thanks for the non-biased review.
To be fair that was a lot of rain. I think that tent would be suitable for light conditions.
@stevenm4225 It is, I have one and use it in everything but snow, but honestly people freak out about leaks when a tube a sealant is cheap, even kept some on hand in the military because your tents and ponchos will have leaks eventually
When Luke says he is going to test a tent, you can be rest assured he is going to test it. I just love it.
He could have just used a water hose at home. Oh well
You can't mimic wind, or sustained drumming over several hours, with a hose.
There's a lot more to the protectiveness of a fly than simply whether it _is_ waterproof or not.
@@mysterylovescompany2657 sure you can. You ever heard of a Small thing Called Movies. Maybe watch the movie twister. They did a pretty good job 20years mimicking nature. An easy sound track Dubbed of a video.
@@danamcwhite yes sure but you need a lot of water a lot of setup, huge fan simulating wind, and electricity bill
It made me knowledgeable on what to bring thank. how about a tarp over tent in foul weather?
Honestly, the woodland environment you're in is absolutely gorgeous. It's beautiful.
And a lot of people don't even know it exists. There are small patches of woodland like that across the southern Appalachian mountains that most people don't know about. The high elevation forests of NC and VA are a hidden gem.
the ferns are great
@Evan S, help out an Aussie - how do you pronounce that region? Is it Appa-lay-shah? Or Appah-lat-chuh?
I keep hearing it said different ways, & not knowing is driving me crazy, lol.
@@mysterylovescompany2657 I live in Virginia and have heard it spoken differently too. The more common pronunciation I've heard locally is: "Apple-at-chah"
@@jojorumbles8749 thanks, I feel smarter now!
I used to carry my keys the same way Luke. Until one day I looked down and they were gone. The belt loop broke while navigating a brush thicket. I was lucky to find them. I don't carry my keys like that anymore.
Same. But didn't find them.
I spent a lot of time outdoors when I was a kid, growing up in Oregon. Nowadays, I am pretty much housebound after 6 back surgeries. Your videos help me get back out in the wild. Thank you.
...soggy camping makes the coffee taste so much better...lol..stay safe...
And makes those hot camp meals taste like the best meal ever.
When you take the plastic bags from the food and coffee back home, can they be recycled with the plastic bags that most grocery stores collect near their front doors? Do the companies that melt and reuse the plastic like to mix the two types of plastic together, or do we need to find another plalce to recycle the bags from the coffee and biscuits and gravy?
Last week I spent two nights in the worst rain and thunderstorm in my life. My tarp skills are so fun to use! It was a blast fishing, cooking and chilling in such bad weather. I love being out in the worst weather, and thriving. 🤘💯
As an old Scout , im getting a kick out of these rain episodes.Every tent we had...leaked!
Yes, old scout here too...always leaked !
I’m a backpacker and I’ve never had a tent leak. I’ve woken up damp though lol
my coleader scout master marine corps viet nam vet leader said if it ain't rainin we ain't trainin
Yeah well technology has changed and I am thankful for reviewers like this because why do I have to pay my hard end money for mediocre quality? I rather a tent that does not leak.
That’s what God made tarps for😄😄😄
Onetigris website for this tent states: Caution: Please use carefully in severe weather/rainstorm. It also states this tent’s waterproof rating is 1500mm and weather suitability at very light rain. From reading this it seems the rainstorm you tested this tent under was way above what it could handle, but still an excellent review. I now know always place tarp over the tent. Keep up the good work!
Exactly👍🏻

Thanks Luke. There is no "safe" place in LIfe; you can stay inside your house, never do anything, never go anywhere, and slip in the shower and die. Much Love to the family who lost their young man; may they find peace. Our lives on Earth aren't permanent; it's not about staying forever, it's about enjoying the stay. Beautiful video.

I absolutely love listening to rain fall on tents and tarps. I have an iron roof on our home and listening to rain on that is also music to my ears. We had howling winds and rain last night and I slept like a baby. Mind you it is winter here in Australia so it's to be expected. Thanks for your reviews I love watching them.

I like peas mixed into my tuna noodle casserole.
@@oldredthereder4639 I like peas too. Although they aren't particularly healthy, even tho they're a veg.
I've made numerous purchases based on Luke's reviews not once have I been disappointed, now if I could only get him to review the ladies I date I feel like I could find the right one! 😁
I’m so sorry for your loss!
The woods look like a movie set. It is amazing and lush and vibrant.
Western North Carolina and also Southwestern Virginia. Both are beautiful regions like this. He is in a "high altitude" (for the east coast) Fir and conifer forest which is actually very different than the hardwood/deciduous forests in valleys and lower elevations (but still equally beautiful).
The forest is so beautiful when it rains. Everything is lush green. I like this scenery covered in mist with its moss and ferns. That's wonderful!
Nature is at its most beautiful in my opinion.
Woooo! Lot's of rain!
I can't lie whatever camera you are using you are using it perfectly its an absolutely impeccable quality video congratulations
Agreed!
Just going to say the same thing, great camera work.
Two opposing cameras make for one take...at least i hope that's what Luke is doing.
I'm so sorry about your loss.
I love how you use whatever is available to use!
there are a lot of bushcrafty youtubers who spend more time complaining about the algorithm than they do on the actual content. i love that you're genuinely enjoying yourself. love your vids, you seem like a good man.
I believe the tent repelled 99.999 percent if the rain so i would give it an A- which is a fair grade!
you forgot the standard comment they always wrote at the bottom "Could do better" 😁😁
I always love harsh weather conditions and rainstorms. They put you in your place as a human beeing. Which is not on top of everything.
I'd say this is one of your best videos. Music, editing spot on. Makes me want to go on an adventure!
Luke sold me on the camp stool and I also love it 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 summer ball games with grandkids ……Perfect
Imagine how annoying it must be for this guy to set down the camera, go away, coming back, walk past it, coming back again to retrieve it, and all this multiple times for every shot with him not holding the device lololol
he takes pride in his cinematography, rightfully so
@@allaboutfreedom144 Indeed. The shots are great. Love his style overall.

Thank you for the video Luke.
I almost fell asleep to the rain hitting the tarp.
Best white noise ever😃😄
My condolences. My dad passed away on July 4th. I was literally on the phone with him the night before. We talked for a couple of hours.
I'm sorry. I hope you're doing okay.
Luke the tent has Failure, but you made it safe through that storm all that's matter my brother thank again for awesome Adventure I enjoy your view in the beginning and in the end I always learn a lot from you what to look for you and how to be safe when you go camping thanks again Luke
Most noticeable on that canal is the crisp footage with very nice background separation i love that
That is some extreme equipment testing.
I wasn't a big fan of peas when I was younger, but now I almost can't get enough of them
Great shot of the coffee swirling in the cup. Campuccino at it's finest.
I gotta say. Having spent the past week or so watching survival focused channels - build your own shelter, boil swamp water, and hope you catch dinner if you want to eat tonight type deals - seeing you just calmly assemble a table and chair, then heat some bottled water on a stove in a pot to make instant coffee and food is hilarious. It's just so damn civil and really does show how far we've come as a species.
Hey Luke, I was camping this past weekend and we stopped at an Amish country store in central Michigan and I found a lone Lodge cast iron lid for the 6 1/2" pan. I was so excited! Felt like I won a scavenger hunt. Course I bought it.
I was in a bad one out in Virginia this passed weekend. My One Tigris backwoods bungalow 2.0 held up like a champ. Had high winds near the Mount Rogers summit. I do think it would have leaked if it had vents towards the peak, but because of the vent running the length of tent towards the bottom it worked out great.
For some strange reason I love the sound of rain on the tent. Especially when there is no condense or rain seeping through.
i love it. this is definitely one of the best episodes i've watched. Well done Luke !!
They said the same about my wife, they said she'd last a few months but she passed away just a couple weeks ago. I miss her so much...

My condolences for your loss, but I agree with the no suffering part. The VA said my dad had 6 months to a year, and he was gone in 2 months. Thanks for the honest reviews on all these products. Peas and carrots are by favorite vegetables. Have a great weekend ya'll...
When u have a night like this, cowboy coffee is sooo good!!
Hey Luke, thanks for making such beautiful and informative videos. I like your attitude, too. My ex-Marine father would always seal any tent or tarp he bought. He was always “improving” the things he used.
That terrain looks so much like Mt. Hood National forest. I camped one time there. The weather was excellent when I went to bed. Woke up about 0730 the next morning and had 8 " of snow. Just shows how fast the weather can change in the high mountains.
Camping Tip: put another tarp over the tent so it's double protected from the Rain that way can unpack n pack in the dry.
Alot of campers in Australia put gazebos over their swags same principle double protected from the storm.
GREAT STORIES always entertaining to watch.
I took this tent onto Dartmoor in the UK in the extreme rains on the 3rd of the month. Absolutely no issue. The storm flap in the vents wasn't holding up with the wind on Sheepstor so the vent got closed: job done.
Fortunately no issues and very pleased with the tent. For the money, I'm Absolutely 100% impressed. Seems like there is some pot-luck going on with this one 🤔 That's a shame.
How old is yours? There is some chatter that their quality has diminished recently.
@@1savage99 Mine is 5 weeks old, but that's just in my possession after purchase. Maybe it sat on a shelf in the Amazon warehouse a while before I bought it. I can only say I had comparable rain and it held up, kept me safe and I had a good night in terrible conditions. I was doubly impressed as I also have a Carinthia Observer from new as well, which I expect to be bomb proof. It is in winds and storms, but it ALWAYS seems to leak a little on the right side.
For the £500 price difference between the two, the One Tigris really is amazing value, but definitely it's a roll of the dice as to whether you get a good one and that's a shame for both the buyer and One Tigris themselves.
@@mrghost3209 thanks for the reply. I’v e been look8ng at theis hot tent and really going back and forth whether to buy or not to spend more on another brand.
@@mrghost3209 mine has leaked in light rain and not leaked in downpours, i've had very mixed results. I really feel like it's how the rain is falling and if it can come up inside the vent. I'm going to put some velcro on mine to keep it closed all the way. I also started positioning the kickstand so that it pushes the storm flap up before closing the vent. The first night with mine I got VERY wet, much worse results then what Luke had.
@@tennyis28 I haven't used it enough to say yet whether mine leaks in light rain. The two times I've had it out have either been in an absolute downpour or just a regular, breezy night on the moors. Two weekenders isn't enough for me to give any more user experience than I've already shared, but thanks for the heads up as sooner or later I'll be using it in lighter rain too.
Amazing job on this episode. Your editing skills are improving all the time, not that they were ever low quality. Thanks for the video, the review and the hang. Stay safe.

Another great review and totally awesome location, very jealous 👍 Regarding a tarp, I always pack one in my pack also, here in northern Australia it's always hot as heck, so I normally set the tarp up over the tent mostly to keep the sun off the tent and extra protection from any showers of rain. Anyway thanks again for another great video 👍
With that huge backpack of equipment, I would definitely have brought some way to make good coffee :D
I love it so much.. camping in heavy rain 🌧
I'd say it passed with a C or C+. Even though there was some water ingress, it was still dry enough to both (a) get some sleep and (b) have a dry spot to fix breakfast. So, not a total fail and not a total success - but good enough. Especially given the amount of rain we saw in your video.
Love the video Luke! Such a beautiful forest you were in. I was expecting Bigfoot to cuddle you in your tent to keep out of the rain storm. Lol. Keep the awesome vid coming , love what you do. And please keep up the drama free channel I appreciate it .

Just The man the myth the legend out in his element striking sheer Terror in all shady gear companies who would dare make false claims. By the way I'm watching your video in exact same conditions except with the hike-and-bike Zion 😂🤙
So, I’ve watched you set up your camp multiple times over a couple of years now. You have never, in my memory, pitched your tarp over the door of your tent. I grew up in East Tennessee and I learned, for good reason, to always put a tarp over the front door of my tent. Since we both grew up camping, in generally the same area of the wet Appalachians, how could we set up camp so differently?
My wife taught me to like pea and carrots. When we were brand new married, I was a plain, meat and potatoes guy. Over the years she’s had me give lots of different foods an “honest try”. I loved her and trusted her, so, I did. Well, I’ve learned to eat salad and lots of veggies. Yep, peas and carrots. Texas
I thought the same thing, then I realized he's testing the tent in the rain.
Isn't it also recommended in the States to always store + handle all food away from your tent?
I always assumed that just wanting to cover his cooking area, at that bit of distance, was his reason.
Though of course, on his test nights he would also have the reason of fully putting the fly through its paces with no mitigating elements.
Luke is testing the tent, so not having the tarp over it, you see the failure modes, BUT, from a practical standpoint, yes, tarp over your tent. I camp for week long stretches and you are guaranteed rainfall one day in that week in Southern Ontario. I have a dome tent, I will tarp the entire tent and have the tarp hug the tent like a fly with a point guyed out for ingress/egress. By having the tarp secured to the tent as a dome, it does not become a wind catcher. Also note in the footage, the backsplash of forest duff on the sides of the tent bathtub. That will cause seepage, so having that tarp drape over and right to the ground, the tent stays clean and dry. May sound like overkill, but once you take those precautions, you don't care if it rains, and the cleanup is much easier after.
@@zachbolinger6963 same here
Our family has had some bonkers stormy camps here in the UK. One year in Dorset we had a 6 hour storm...the whole shebang, even the earth itself was shaking 🤣😂 Tents were fantastic!
Thanks for sharing Luke. I hope OT can get their issues fixed with that tent; its a fantastic looking tent.
A friend of mine used the same tent last weekend in heavy rain. No issues at all. 🤔
I just got my tent today. 😞 i guess I'll be seam sealing here very soon. I'll have to watch your video on how to fix a leaking tent. I hope seam sealing will fix the problem. Thank you for the video!
when you close the vents, position the kick stand so that it pushes the storm flap up, it helps a little bit. It will still leak at the vents though. I was thinking of a few pieces of velcro on each vent to keep it fully closed, the way the tent sits it has a big gap even when closed.
Well i got my tent set up in my garage and I seam sealed over the vents and down the seams of the vents. I think i sealed about 80 percent of it. I almost thought about not sealing it tonight and just pitching it in my back yard and calling it a night. Thanks Luke for your videos and also how to seam seal. I have faith in the Onetigris cosmitto still.
@@ajp2811 did you seam seal the vents closed? The tent is very much servicable i'd just be extra cautios in heavy rain.

Luke, you've outdone yourself with this beautiful video. Loved the music also. Thanks Luke

A tent has 2 purposes - keep the rain off me and keep the bugs out. $160 for a leaky tent? Nope.
You can buy this tent for less than 100 dollars
For $100 the tent shouldn't be leaking at all
Well on the website of OneTigris, they state this tent is good in light rain. So they arent lying.
This tent was still the driest place in the forest that night as someone above mentioned. So, there's that.
He is taking the tent out of the package and testing it without applying any water sealer or repellant. Idk anyone who doesnt atleast scotchguard a tent before use. The info is still valid, but like he even said himself in the video, you should really seam seal it before expecting it to be water proof.
Love my UGQ bandit rated at 30 degrees. I don't feel too many people know about them.
I have the Bandit negative ten degree bag. Great!
I'm sorry for your loss. Glad you're back in your element enjoying life and the beauty around us.
Bless your uncle and I’m glad you are dealing with his passing in positive way.
Personally, for the cost of the tent vs the 3-5 inches of rain, even though the tent did eventually leak, I would say it passed. All tents even the expensive ones will eventually leak once the threshold is reached. You had a good recommendation to seal seam the tent before any serious use. (something you should do to every tent)
no, they wont. even in weeks. the only way proper tent leaks is if you set it up in the puddle or will be puddle. and even then the best ones just shrug it off.
No matter the tent always check it out at home first. I’ve had to treat some high quality tents for water proofing
Right on! You're 100% RIGHT
great job capturing that amazing stormy rainy atmosphere out there, must say im jealous. my favourite kinda weather.
Funny how zippers on all tents sound the same. Excellent video Luke.
This video shows a good reason to always carry a tarp. Image it started to rain like this. How do you set up your tent without soaking the inside before you get the rain fly on? At the very least you could spread the tarp out, climb under it and set the tent up that way.
Good stuff Luke 👍
Thank you SpiderMoose! haha Great name brother.

What do I think you say? That's a lot of freak'n rain for any tent! I say seam seal the vents and give it another try. Give the old girl a second chance brother! Thanks for your time making another wonderful video.
I did a four-day backpack trip just like the adventure you shared here - it rained and snowed continuously. We set up a tarp solely to protect our precious pile of firewood. I was sleeping under only a tarp, and miraculously stayed fairly dry. Rainy trips make for some great stories after you get home and get your gear dried out.
