I hope one day I get well off eniught to get an RV, heck I'd be happy With a van. If worse comes to worse I'll camp in a car before I stop camping.

Yes, I noticed the trail break foot shuffling too. Good job. Hunting Colorado I always cut a walking stick to steady myself. I tried a trekking pole but a couple of times I forgot it and had to backtrack to find it. If I'm packing out 100 pounds of meat I cut two poles and still have to be careful in the rocks and brush. I notice you never use one.

When I was 17 years old I ran away from home for a full year and lived in the cab of my 1970 C 10 Chevy pickup truck. As the days got shorter and the nights colder I bought a single mantle Coleman lantern for a heat source. The only problem was I had to wake up every couple of hours to pump up the fuel tank. When it came to cooking, I had a single burner Coleman stove that also ran on Coleman fuel. I really learned a lot about surviving on bare minimum that year.

Here's an example of another youtuber from the Bavarian Forest who had trouble with cheap snowshoes borrowed from a friend. A couple of game changers included micro spikes, trekking poles with large snow baskets, snow shoes & chemical warmers for gloves, drying socks/boots overnight & warming sleeping bags. A UCI candle raised the inside dew point and knocked down condensation. Also the AT weather app for the latest snow updates.

I grew up in northern Illinois and always took snow for granted. Then I went to college and one of my classmates was from Hawaii and had never seen snow in his life. I will never forget his reaction when he first saw snow - it was as if he had just met his long lost love after several years apart. It was a cool experience, and made me rethink my dislike of snow, having grown up shoveling it out of our driveway. It does have a certain magical quality to it.

There's a lot of things I like about winter hiking and camping more than summer. Its very quiet, you can hear the snow hit the ground and trees, there's more places to set up a tent, you don't have to worry about a camp fire or stove setting the forest on fire, there's less people, you can see all the cool animal footprints clearly. Ice does weird stuff. I just came back yesterday from a snow trip where there was these huge ice crystals everywhere, all over the ground. And if you can't stand the heat and humidity of summer, winter camping is for you!

When I lived in Colorado near Central City, hiking in the snow was great. I found an inexpensive pair of snow shoes really makes the hike easier. I was lucky enough to have a buddy who worked for Head Ski who donated a pair to me. Staying on top of the snow keeps your feet and legs dryer. And it takes a bit less energy to move along. Where I lived, outdoor adventures were a way of life. Great cardio-vascular workout too. This was back in the 70's so there was no youtube. And even though I took lots of photos portable video was not a thing back then. Wish I could revisit the past with a good camera today. Really enjoyed this video. Had some popcorn while watching, here on Saturday night. Thanks.

And a friend wanted to go on the mountain for his first "winter bushcamp". This video reminds me of the last time I went snow camping in 94. I was in the Kaibab forest at the Grand Canyon. The thing I liked most was how quiet and peaceful it was when it snowed. Only thing I heard was snow falling. I hope to experience this again.

I don't know if I could stay motivated to keep hiking if I had such a morose soundtrack following me.

My favourite part about these videos is when they set the camera down and walk towards it and then past it knowing at one point they keep having to run towards and away from it over and over.

I like a good "underwear fire" when i have been wet and cold. To explain "the underwear fire", it's when you make a campfire so big and hot so you have to sit in your underwear to survive 😆🤣. Old joke from back in the day.

Snow is GREAT for cleaning stuff! Especially fine powder snow when it's cold and dry.
For example, take out that thick mat and dump it upside down in the snow. It's gonna do wonders. Do it several times and the mat will be as clean as it'll ever get.
