I got soaked (everything got soaked) once when I was forced to switch campgrounds during a severe weather system that lasted for hours. I went to Walmart and bought a 12X24’ tarp. From then on I tarped my tent all the way around. I used long sticks and bungie cords. I was always bone dry. I mostly camped in state parks solo with my dog. My tent is a Coleman Instant Tent. I alway have a double high queen bed, a chair with a side table and a porta potty in there. I was always very comfortable.
Hi Luke, about a year ago we decided to invest in a newer up to date tent and bought out firsts DoD tent and retired the old one. After getting set up and later turning in radar indicated light rain and since we were in the new tent, we were not worried about waking up wet again. By 4:30am we woke up to all our blankets and clothes being soaked and couldn't for the life understand why. Later that same morning we took a closer look and found not 1. not 2. but 3 spots where it had leaked in. One by the door, the 2nd below the center of the dome. And the third closer to the lower lefthand side Basically, we were soaked and had to retreat to the comforts of the truck bed the following night since the tent didn't do its job. Since then, we went back to using the old tent from Colman with No problems after buying a can of rain guard. The place that we purchased the DoD tent refused to refund our money, so we decided to stay clear of their products ever since.
WOW!! THANKS GREAT IINFO!! 👋HEY DoD I HOPE YOUR LISTENING!!! 👋👋👋👋
What really sucks is that families could be endangering little ones to cold wet/elements out in the wood without knowing about it 😢 Always Always Set Your tent up and check it against the elements before taking your kids out in it!!Again, Thanks for the Post 👍🏼👍🏼
I won't be buying from them.
Agree don’t need the aggravation
If the company won't stand by their products, then I have no use for that company, they no their products are junk they have your money ,you have the trash. Don't like company's like that 😮can't trust none of their products.😢😮

Thank goodness that there’s someone who’s giving us a honest unbiased review, great adventure, thanks Luke.

This guy must have sensitive eyes. Why else would any reasonable guy wear sunglasses on a dark and dismal day unless he's trying to play it cool.
In my opinion guy's like this lose all credibility when they allow their ego's to drive them to embarrassing heights.
Watching at night, snuggled in bed, with headphones on, that rain is very soporific
I'm past the age of camping in a tent. I still have an old canvas and a newer nylon one but I tell you the 20' fiberglass camper that is fully equipped is great for a 73 year old man with arthritis, etc.. These videos Luke are fun to watch and I've seen all of them. Take care my friend.
Like I said in your last video, because of that storm flap around the door alone I would not purchase this tent. This is why we all watch you Luke, we appreciate your honesty. Other RUclipsrs who get products to give the company a positive review they wouldn't even test it they would simply unbox it a tell the viewers it is a great tent. Your agenda free is money in the bank for all of us who follow your channel.
Seriously. Luke has saved money, time, and headaches with his reviews. One of the best outdoor channels on YT. 🤘
You are a good man Luke. Thank you for your time and energy doing what you do.
I appreciate your willingness to test and re-test. You have gone the extra mile---again.
Hi Luke, I'm not a camper, but thank you for the people who are I'm sure they appreciate what you doing to keep them safe.
I AM A CAMPER I STOPED USEING TENTS CAUSETHEY ALLMOST ALL LEAK @ SOME POINT IN TIME . IF U TOUGH THE SIDES TEY LEAK I HAVE GONE TO A TRAVEL TRAILER . I THINK IF THE VENT FLAP WAS TO GO DOWN FATHER FROM THE SCREAN & THEY NEED A RAIN FLY /AWNNG OVER THE DOOR . IF U HAVE TO GO UT DURING S=A RAIN STORM TO USE THE BATHROOM
Thank heavens for the warm and dry cabin 💖
Hey Luke now you understand a little about being a hillbilly. I grew up deep in Appalachia in WV. The connection you feel to live in the old homeplace is incredible! Our hollar we lived in was the last house! Nothing but Woods! That was my playground,my exploring, my cabin building, and a great source of Food! Still love it! Boone County WV. Coal country.
You must have seen the beings that live in the woods
Jamie Morton I just know what I know that’s all. It makes no difference to me whether you don’t or do believe or not believe to me.
Mingo Co, WV here and I here ya on that backyard paradise.
Boone County with the whites family goofy derkie lol that's where he's from
Aloha Luke, Thank You i like this review always enjoy Your Videos learn a lot from You. Hi Susie, like what you did to your camper. Nice very homey. Safe Journeys my Friends LOVE and GOD Bless You Your family.😘⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘💜💙⚘⚘🌿🌿
I want a little tent to put in the backyard and "camp" with my 6 year old grandson. It should be fun.
Just do it grandpa a memory you both will never forget.
Did you do it?
The best reviews ever! He is the ONLY outdoors channel I'll watch and learn from. The lessons are 1000% appreciated because I don't find this content anywhere else and I am being whole heartly honest. Only thing I trust no bear I go everywhere with a gun even if I go in the forest spear and gun are with me.
Hi Luke. I'm a hammock camper now, but I have slept in lots of leaky tents. My advice for anyone stuck in a wet tent is to protect your sleeping bag at any cost. Even if you have to pack it in its stuff sack and sit the weather out in your raincoat. Do not roll over and go back to sleep. When you get home, you can use the tent for backyard fun. It may sound crazy but if your bathtub tent floor is really a tub full of water, drive an extra tent stake into the ground right through that expensive floor. Wiggle it around a bit and the water will drain into the ground as long as you are not camped in a depression where water is pooling. Maybe it's just me, but I think tent floors are highly overrated except for discouraging bugs.
Just have a tarp over the tent and you're good to go. I understand why he does these videos but I would never trust a tent to be 100 percent waterproof. Hang a tarp over the tent and you'll never had to worry about it leaking.
Hammock is no better…and way more issues to deal w and lack of space for storage …not to mention your simply a bear taco!
You might change your mind about tent floors once you see/feel the triple silicone coatings of 70D fabric used in Hilleberg tent floors.
Tarp over a tent isn't quite camping isn't it
If I know jt's going io rain heavily before bedtime I just keep my bag in its waterproof bag. Because stuff happens..
Strength and honour!
These testnights are brilliant. I really appreciate how you test so none of us get a nasty surprise. 👍
I really love all of your wonderful videos and I watch you every day and truly enjoy your videos 😉😊.
Alright. Fess up. Who else almost fell asleep listening to just the rain? 🙋
Hey Luke
My house was built by the CoOp an old British company in 1885 and is still going strong.
Loving Victorian quality.
Much love coming from the UK fella.
I swear I’ve never so much rain in my life watching your videos.
Thanks!
Thank you so much Hope, I really appreciate your support.

I love your honesty. I don’t want to go camping and end up in a tent that leaks. I like how you say it how it is. Other RUclipsrs don’t. You have a great channel.
So glad I found someone that gives accurate facts about products that are on the market today. I watch most of your videos just for the up to-date new products that you use. It helps so much when going out and making purchases. Purchases that aren't cheap.
Thanks again for a thorough review Luke, this tent is a definite ‘Do Not Buy’ in it’s current form. As for that woman who blamed her kids’ bad behavior on your video, these ‘Non-Parents’ are very common, blaming their children’s lack of discipline on anybody but themselves. You see them in WalMart letting their kids run around knocking stuff off shelves till they fall and hit their head on something, then they sue WalMart for not putting wild animal bumpers on everything. Keep the vids commin’!!
😂😂i discipline my son everyday they ain't gonna change overnight. he was a horror show today. Maybe it's time to grow up and stop thinking that people don't discipline their kids just because they act bad😂 just like you say about these non-parents... Don't speak on something you've never been through. 😂 Don't you think you should take your own advice? I discipline my son every single day. And he's just getting worse. Some kids are more stubborn be thankful that your kids weren't. By the way if you do discipline your kids or teach them a certain way it's up to the kids to keep that or change to what they want to do.
Love what you do Luke jeep on keeping on, for the love🥾🥾
Thank you for your honest reviews. As an outdoor community, we need more honest information on the products available to us. Finding out that a product isn't what we paid for once in the outdoors isn't acceptable. You help us make better informed decisions. I thank you for your channel and the work you put into it.
i got a similar firebox.. and the space under is best for baking potatoes and stuff.. or reheating bread and burritos.. hehe a little hack that you might find interesting..😁
My best night sleep ever was hanging in my hammock during a nasty NW Kansas storm 😁 The first few loud cracks of thunder were jolting..but that too faded as a factor after the gentle swaying rocked me to Dreamland. That said..I really wanted this tent to do better. Bad experiences with bendy pole tents has made me leery of them all.
Luke. Good video..👍
I wish I had seen these videos 30 years ago when we used to camp in our tent ❤️ but the memories of the camping in the rain and snow are priceless ❤️ plenty of times when we stood under a tarp.
Shout out from your number 1 fan in the Philippines 🥰
I love your videos, they inspire me to get out more, enjoy our lives more! You and Suzy are inspirations for me to be a all around better person, GOOD FOR YOU BOTH, Continuing to show kindness is not dead!! Love from Northern Ontario Canada.
straightfoward, good logic, no fancy, realist. good channel
What an atmospheric, well constructed, and brilliantly edited video. The ambience of nature so well captured. The soundscape of rain, thunder, and the crackling firewood creates a certain magical vibe and mood.
But hats off to Luke for so patiently trying out that tent only to find its intrinsic non waterproof defects are not a figment of the imagination.!.Wonder what the manufacturers response was.?.
Its not a leak, its a water feature or an advance indoor shower! Very cool!
Hi Luke as a fellow North Carolinian I often recognize many of the places and trails that you haunt. My suggestion to you is create a sub channel of the sounds of the rain and wind that you record while camping. I use the different channels already on RUclips to help me sleep but yours are real not just simulated white noise. Just a suggestion. I can’t get out on the trails anymore like I once did due the hectic work schedules.
Very good suggestion.
Yep great idea
Field recording is AWESOME! Also, it doesn’t have to be in a “field.” It can be at a the crest of a hill, deep in some holler. Yet, it could be at a bus stop listening to the cacophonous sounds of the city. Both can be helpful to remove yourself from whatever world you wake up in.
your the man LUKE excellent video
I so look foward to Thursdays!!! Going through a tough time and love the mental vacation I can take. Thank you!!!
Tough times don't last, keep trucking on there's much work to be done. Best of luck from an internet stranger.
Hope you're ok pal, it will get better. Never forget how important you are OK.
Good for you!! You are taking care of your emotional health . I am right there with you. The energy out there is so toxic, it is painful to tune onto the tv news. No Way. it is true that tough times do not last, but whle they are going on it seems endless. Native Americians would say these times are just speed bumps on the Red Road. the Red Road is the Spiritual path we follow through life. The natural world of the earth, the trees, animals plant life and the changing seasons is the Real World, the rain, the wind, the sunshine, the changing sky, sunsets and sunrise storms..all these things are here for us to enjoy. Even if we cant physically get out there in Nature, & the wilderness, we can go along with Luke. and others on You Tube. i love to hear & read the stories people tell about their camping, adventures. Happy Trails, everyone.🌲🌲🦬🦬💕💕😎
Re-watching this one... I sure do love your old truck. Purrs like a kitten.
My best wishes my friend
Another enjoyable video 😍. Great presentation of the information 😄. Hello from Indiana USA and this 62 year old lady.. thanks for sharing this with me 🙏😊👍👍👍👍👍.
happy that you did this episode on that tent.
I like that fire set up
I camped in thunderstorms and snow at the Tetons and Yellowstone. My Mountain Hardware tent kept me bone dry. Thanks for the informative video.
😮l0
You keep it REAL Luke!!!
I have very much enjoyed your videos and their educational value. Having not camped since Boy Scouts, a video of how you dry out all these expanses of soaked fabric so the tents and tarps remain usable and non-moldy would be very valuable. I have the duty of prepping for my whole extended family.
lol he used to joke that Mrs lonewolf was going crazy with all the wet tents and tarps in the house
Idk if it helps, but I dried mine out in the utility... room. (not sure what it's called lol it's a room at the back of our garage that has a sink and a drain but it's an actual separate building, just tacked on at the back.) It's where I keep my camping stuff and hubby keeps the gardening stuff. It's big enough for the pop up tent I've got currently. Just bought a new bigger 'family size' tent. Waiting for it to arrive, and can't wait to get using it. I miss camping... (hubby's not a big fan 😕 but he didn't grow up with it like I did...)
Gotta love Camp TV for hand warming capabilities.
Why you don’t have a million subs yet is beyond me… Keep up the good work dude!
Most people RV now lol
It’s not as relevant to backpacking most of this gear tested it seems. So maybe he’s missing a large portion of that interest group?
@@KB-re4ku his video before this tent review was on a kettle. One before that was a chest rig. Teepees are extremely popular for backpacking so I'm not sure what you mean exactly.
I am new so watching old videos so I hope the company listened to your opinion. Really enjoying your channel
I have to admit, for a tent so expensive (409$ US) i was expecting a better result, but 2 on 2, leeking, neah, not good. Thanks for your testing Luke, always appreciated. Love your videos. Salutation to Susy and family. 😸😼See you next time, from Sophie in Montreal / Quebec.
Loving that long tarp on the back of your truck..Perfect..!!
Thanks Luke for this enjoyable outing and review! Hopefully the company will appreciate your efforts and do the appropriate thing to correct the leaking issue.
Strength,Honor and Honesty thats the T.O.G.R.
hi! your manner is pleasant and therefore it is a nice
elaxing experience to watch one of your vids: so, thank You for taking the time and labor to film!
Not, not, not a walk of shame. It’s called a series of excellent decisions, to buy and place the “cabin”, on your own nice acreage, a place easy to get to in your truck, a place to enjoy whatever weather, waiting and watching in warm, dry comfort. Thanks for the twice done demonstration of the DoD tepee. Will look elsewhere for my tepee tent. I don’t need a leaky tent, period. Your commentary is trusted because there is no marketing, nothing to sell.
I love that whirring sound of the wind. We don't get much of it here where I live in suburbia. But, on the occasions we do get any decent winter wind, I can set up some interesting harmonics as it blow through and around the meter pipe awning frame on the front of my house. And, if I don't have my windows clamped down tightly and locked, I can get some neat moans and whistles there too. But, my most favorite of wind sounds is the whirring sound at the beginning of the video. Simple pleasures.
Luke you talking about being out in a storm. About 15 years ago I had put my boat in the water the sky’s looked menacing. Big black and grey clouds rolling in the sky’s. I got just out of the river when the sky’s opened up! Lightning, thunder piles of rain. I had put all the storm canopies on just before the sky’s opened up. It rained so hard there was a sheet of water running off my boat an inch or more. I was just Idling. Driving by my GPS. The rain lasted about two hours. Rest of the day was fantastic.
Hi Luke watch your videos about camping. I'm not a camper, however, I enjoy the videos you produce. Almost every time I end up falling asleep watching your videos, not because it's boring, it's damn too relaxing.
Why i watch in the evening. So relaxing.
Good job my friend thank you.
I WOULD GIVE A MILLION DOLLARS, IF I HAD IT, to spend one more night in a tent during a rain storm !! I totally envy you with all that I am !! Love your life, and your cabin !! SC HERE ! LOL !! Love you and what you do ! Especially helping folks not to get ripped off and how not to freeze to death!!! ❤😂❤
Thank you for an honest review!
I was intrigued by the stake pitching and the fact that they just go in the ground. There would be no way they would do that here where I live. Way too many rocks and gravel. But fascinating to watch you either throw or push into the ground with ease. Is that your superpower? Love these videos. Now finding my blanket cuz the weather is coming.
For a man with an actual every day life. That must go back to work and reality! Your back up is a phenomenal set up. God bless!
Hey Luke, referring about doing home remodeling, my father also built our house in the '40's from lumber (oak 2×4's) from our property. When they tore the house down for redevelopement, the D8 Cat bounced off it like a Tonka toy! Don't think we would have had to worry about a little adverse weather. Hopefully you got more than lip service from DOD.
My Dad's house was built in the 1910s, out of Oak. He had it upgraded 20yrs ago( redid the death trap stairs, how know of us broke a bone going up and down those stairs, is just pure luck). The guy doing the work Told my Dad, his house was worth more in oak, then house.
I have six kids everything is a learning moment this is a chance for us to teach them there is a place for everything. We are to mold our children into adults not keep them children forever.
Let’s see some snow!!! Love the bad weather trips Luke
Could you imagine him camping in Lake Tahoe right now? They have FEET of snow! LOL
Break out the hot tent!!!
Appreciate your honesty about the tent and i love your videos
I loved how you threw those two stakes in the ground! LOL 🤣 I was thinking how cool that was and then you related the story about the Mom! HIGH LARIOUS! She needs to chill. ALL kids throw knives in the ground at some point! It's called "being a kid" Mom. Relax
All that being mostly true, she does have a point. Your videos probably do get viewed by a fair number of children. I'm sure she told her children that there is a time and place for such behavior, don't be so thin skinned. Love all your videos. Strength and HONOR!
Love the sounds
The rain running down on the TOGR logo in the intro is a nice touch. Well done Luke!
The perfect crime once again! Great video Steve thanks x
If your cabin trailer is to be semi permanent, I would either remove your wheels and store them ( a security measure against theft) and put the trailer on blocks. Alternatively, at least protect the tires from sun rot and cracking. Since you are located at the top of a mountain with little protection from wind, I would consider anchoring the trailer with cable. Use anchor posts or concrete blocks buried in the ground. You could anchor just the frame or go over the roof of the trailer with a 2x4 to protect it from the cable. I doubt the trailer body would survive hurricane strength winds in any case.
Luke, Thank you again for great product review. You did the right walk. Not shame. Safety!!! We all knew you wouldn’t go out hiking with that tent. Smart, honest man!!!! 👍
Thank you for these videos - I truly enjoy joining you on these adventures. Keep up the good work sir.
I love your camper!
To better capture the moisture on camera, try laying down a dry piece of colored construction paper over the puddles or drips where the water is present on the floor, or press it against the walls of the tent. We'll be able to see the discolored water spots on the paper more clearly that you simply pointing your camera and flashlight at the water. Thanks again for doing what you do.
Hey I had a old military umbrella camvesh tent that was from the 50s best tent ever thanks for doing what you do they don't make them like that any more.
😅🤣😂 What the hell! throw another one in the ground. Don't let that stop you! I love everything ,about this channel...
I really like your new heater. It’s really nice looking.
I recall the term "rain shadow". A couple years ago I was backpacking in Southern VA and noticed we were in a valley which had very distinctly different flora than we'd been walking through before. Turns out the geography of the region caused that valley to get almost no rain.
Oh I would love to be out in a tent having it rain, but I have to watch froy my back porch. Lucky you
Didn't you read the instructions? "Pitch tent under tarp to prevent leaking" .
My first reaction to you throwing those stakes was “ I see someone who used to play lawn darts”. Hope this new year is prosperous for you Luke.
I wonderd what those military style patches with
Lawn darts death from above were lol
I still have 2 brand new unopened sets. The good old days....
My reaction was to recall a game we played as boys called mumblety-peg (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mumblety-peg). My cousin and I were playing it on our knees with our hunting/camping knives. Five minutes later we were on our way to the emergency room where my cousin got 5 stitches where he buried the knife in his leg.
My reaction is Luke is an expert Mumblety-peg player with a jack knife.
I still have a set of lawn darts.
Hopefully now they will fix the issues with the tent, not dismiss the input as a faulty batch or a counterfeit. The best manufacturers should be glad for this level of customer feedback and use it to improve their product.
Just curious, Luke. What three things (coffees?) do you put in your coffee. I’m interested in trying the combination. Good video. You and Suzy always do a good honest job. Thanks 🙏.
Same here! I know the first packet was Nescafé but couldn’t catch the next two. 🤷🏻♀️
That was an awesome test. I'm currently having some tent poles replaced on my Eureka wind river 2. Its twenty something years old. Going to set it up in the backyard here in Idaho. Just to test it. Been using a Cabela's outfitters 4 person tent. Than switch to a camper. Now the camper is gone and back to tents. We enjoy your videos.
My 30 year young passed with flying colors. Your testing and review got me motivated to reseal my old tent. They don't make them like they used to.
Thanks for sharing another great adventure. 😊😊😊
I think you have developed building a fire to an art.
As always. Excellent.
Good morning from Montana. Are you going to be doing a review on the cooking pans you use in this video. I’ve seen them in your vids but haven’t found a review yet. Thanks for all you do!
The best tent I have ever owned, was the Cabela’s outfitter tent. It never leaked did great in snow and rain. awesome tent. Of course now I have a travel trailer.
I like the design of the tent, and the fact it has a floor awesome video!
I like tents with floors if they are waterproof ! but have seen too many 4” deep paddling pools. I have also spent time on duckboards because of widespread water, and that works too !
I do like the inner tent. But, I’m really not convinced about the door zip flap????? It’s only going too be good luck you set up the right direction. But, you shouldn’t have too pitch your tent to chance????? You should be able too pitch a tent ⛺️ in any direction with confidence Surly??? 😮😊😢❤❤❤🙏🤷♀️🇬🇧
@@janetburrows137 you cannot be sure of the wind blowing from any particular direction for long , particularly amongst obstructions like trees, big rocks etc.
I love your music!!
I'm surprised you haven't found a way to put lights and wifi cam or something in the tent. Then you can check it while your in the trailer having coffee. Yeah that's a tarp over tent.
Yep your right, they need to pull that tent, I've slept in a leaky tent in a rain storm and it's not fun, I'm always thinking this guy is going to get sick,, after seeing you in the rain and then snow right after. As far as the lady emailing you about her children throwing things after seeing you throw a tarp stake......she needs to get control of her children. Love your videos keep up the good work, and be safe
Love this. Thank you for doing this. Again!
Love how you’re a mix between Corporal’s Corner and Steve Wallis. Another great video thank you
Why not put a couple cameras in the tent to see what's happening.
Be safe. Thanks for another great video&🎶🎶
Great test. Please let us know the company's response.
Hey looks like you have a great piece of property at least the water doesn't pool it all runs down hill it looks like that was a smart choice when pick it up
