    The best camping trip is when you get set up before the storm hits, enjoy the storm, cook in between waves of the storm, and then the storm ends early enough that everything is dry when you break camp. It rarely happens, but it's so great when it does.

      You can camp and not even leave home. You don't need a fire pit. Make or buy a stick stove or butane stove. There cheap. A cheap tarp and if there is mosquitoes? A mosquito net. The cushions from a couch work better than any camp mat. I could go on but i think you understand that the imagination is a good tool. Plus collecting the stuff to go camping is the best part. A seance of accomplishment. What dose one get from camping? Because your roughing it. Because not one thing is at your finger tips. Because you have to work at it to make it work. All of that. Makes home seem so much better. The hot shower. The microwave. The oven. The heat or the air conditioning. When you get home and unpack. Nothing will bother you. Not even the kids fighting . Thats what makes camping so worth it. Then there is the pictures or memory of what you did experience that makes it worth it. I recommend all to camp even if its at the park. Less stress as well when you get back home. Even if its your back yard that you camp in.

    Always nice to see an outdoorsman/woman, who hikes out, sets up and spends time outside. So many channels show a guy or gal with some transiting shots, set up. a pan of the location, then the ENTIRE video is them inside the tent in a bag and cooking in the vestibule. Then they wake up, pack up and leave. Luke is actually outside in the weather and talking to us about gear, family, food and environment, which is appreciated. It's maddening to see a 20, 30 or 40 minute video of a dude spending 9 hours inside a hoop tent. Why camp if you refuse to be outdoors? Thank you TOGR for the adventures and the reviews.

    I used to be a "super cold weather camping" kinda dude... "used to be", that's the key phrase there. The older I get, the colder I get. I just CANNOT HANDLE that cold weather like I used to when I was younger.
    I've lost a lot of weight in recent years & gained some (extra serious) health problems, so I'm sure that has something to do with it as well. Man I really miss the cold stuff thou. No bugs out, not as many ppl out, not as many predators out, no sweating. Just pushing myself to the limit of survival. A whole lotta fun, but my body just can't cut it anymore. Gotta play it like I'm smart or somethin & be careful these days 😂

    I always find your cold weather camping very interesting, mostly because I live in a very hot and humid environment in Australia's Northern Territory! Our seasons are opposite to yours which means your winter is our summer......but we don't have summer in the Northern Territory....we have Build Up and then Wet Season. It is basically too hot and humid to camp at this time of year....like,really hot and humid....if it is not raining, it will be around 35c with close to 90% humidity! Very hard to sleep!

    Firebox Nano works well as a stand for the Evernew burner. If you want to simmer you put the pot right on the burner and block the inner ring. I'm quite fond of the small twig stoves and used correctly they punch way above their weight. When you don't need too much it's amazing the tiny amount of fuel you can get away with. I'll even bring pellets sometimes instead of using gas of liquid fuel. Even if I have some other stuff that's also the main emergency fuel in my car.

    • @user-dr4xv5zn8s
      @user-dr4xv5zn8s Год назад

      I agree, surprised he viewed that stove as a gimmick. Especially in a survival situation, you may only have the option to burn sticks. The Firebox guy cooks full meals with the twigs.

    • @OddArneOseberg
      @OddArneOseberg Год назад

      @@user-dr4xv5zn8s Yeah. I have them all, but first thing I did with my Nano when I got it was to run it with both small lump charcoal as well as the two briquettes I could fit in there. You can do a lot with just that, but with the larger stove it's pretty endless, really. If all you need to do is cook a small meal or heat a bit of eater for one person you can get by with this and such a small amount of fuel it's just funny.

    Here in australia, my foster parents, they finished up with me when i turned 18, then retired, sold their 4 bedroom house, the car, and everything in the house/around it. Used that money to buy a camper van and a new 4wd, and are now nomadic and doing a round trip around the country to start.

    Just came back from Big Bend National Park. Was a great trip one in which tested my 2016 Toyota 4 Runner which did great on the back roads. It is beautiful rugged country mountains up to around 8,000 ft.. This time of year is cooler without the wet that happens during the spring months. Summer is hot 110 or better at times. Trees are non extant but the wild life and the lack of light makes the night time outstanding for star gazing. We did not do primitive camping, not my Wife's cup of tea but I would in a second. Just know you have to make reservations to camp and I can bet your new Toyota would be perfect for the off road trails. As well there are hiking trails too numerous to count. The best of both worlds of primitive camping.
    On another note, watch just about everything you put out. Looks like a lot of work doing all that by yourself. Thanks for the reviews.

    Yup, going down hill is rough on the knees. My brother is big on tarps. On awful windy hiking campouts he has saved the day with a tarp. When we car camp it's the giant 12 x 15 tarp(something like that). We have put six people under it during a huge rain storm. We played cards, played music, chatted and had a great time while it was pouring. The trick is to know how to put a "flag pole" under the tarp that keeps it stable and won't fall down. Tie the tarp off first and then put a pole under it that keeps it taunt. Standing on the truck tailgate enabled us to get the tarp height we needed. You don't have to tie off the pole, the tension keeps it in place. 12ft tall pole. Don't mean to hog the comments. Like Luke said, without a tarp your trapped in your tent.

    I’m not sure what is about your videos but whenever I watch I start out just watching. About halfway through, I’m putting on a sweatshirt and socks. Next thing I know, I’m under at least one blanket and by the end I’m looking for a hat and that is all from my recliner. Guess that means they are incredibly realistic. Thanks for the adventure. Keep on keeping on.

    The corded pulls came undone on our military tents as well. They always came off our sleeping bags. They really were really useless. Most the time we replaced them with 550 cord. Most everything we had came from the lowest bidder anyways lol
