When you spoke about the people you helped off the mountain after they crashed their car and you said you wouldn’t have even thought about filming it……thanks for being normal, I appreciate that. Blessings from Australia 😊
Yeah I remember watching that and thinking it was a shame he didn't have more footage of the event but then I realized how bizarre that would be to actually do to someone during a difficult time of theirs.
Helping people. Yeah, it can change plans. A friend and I were kayaking a local river here in Ohio (Kokosing) and there is a turn in the river, where there was a sizeable log jam right after with a smallish chute to get through with a tight turn to avoid the logs. The river really rages around that bend, and a family in two rented canoes comes through. My friend and I had stopped on the opposing bank to watch people go through because, well, it was entertaining watching them panic. LOL. This family, the first boat capsized, then the second one does as well. they all got into the log jam, which if you know river boating, that's called a strainer, and can be deadly. So we sprung into action. My back was out from an injury the week prior, and I went in anyway. Got them all out, while the grandmother, who was in the canoe before them, screamed "My babies!!!" trudging up the bank towards us, then looking right at her son (the dad) and screams "You and your damn outdoors!!" we laughed pretty hard after they left over that. I even saved the dad's wallet, keys and phone in a sealed container that floated on down the river. I chased it in my kayak, and had to paddle back upstream. My back was then out for a further three weeks after, but we saved them all!
You are a compassionate, sincere person, Luke. You saved those people because it was the right thing to do. It is your honesty and genuine character that makes this channel so amazing. Agenda free.
Dear Luke..My favourite words from you. INERESTING. - CHEERS EVERYONE- ANYWAYS FOLK and YOURE ACCENT - you have helped cheer me up as I suffer from depression due to mean neighbours and some obstacles- when the neighbours are getting to me I think of you’re smile and positivity and grab a cup/glass and says CHEERS ..🏴
Your bugout bag info made sense to me, I had just put one together with the intent to carry it with me during winter travels. In the case that my vehicle somehow dies or goes off the road and I need to walk miles to a busy road or back home, I have built it around that - warm clothes, some water, a few granola bars for energy. Then if I have to stop overnight - a knife, axe and saw for processing wood for a fire as well as fire starting materials and a tarp to keep the elements off me. I kept it relatively simple and didn't overspend just like you suggested.
I have something very similar in my vehicle. Much of what I put in mine were things I already had at home, and the rest were fairly inexpensive purchases. It's good to be prepared. Will keep the panic away and a clearer head when everything is already there.
Loved your advice on bug out bags. The simple reality is that 99% of the time you are better off staying put than going somewhere else unless it's something like a hurricane and you are in a location that floods. You have a great situation since you have your cabin on Lone Wolf Mt that you can go to if something bad happened to your house or neighborhood. That makes sense, a place you can go for recreation but also use in an emergency.
Luke, this was an off the chart adventure. You shared a lot of valuable information with us. Your content is always informative. Really enjoy watching your videos. Stay safe.
Thanks Luke I enjoy joining you with your adventures I live in the southern hemisphere and having the opportunity to see your country is amazing--strength and honour
I couldn't agree more with the bug out/ be prepared situation. There are so many "infomercials", websites and such online that sell an insane, ridiculously expensive amount of goods,food,etc.,etc.. They use fear tactics to buy this, that or their products. Big money. Common sense should prevail. To quote RUclips weather man Ryan Hall: "Don't be scared be prepared". Those folks caught you at a vulnerable moment, but they were probably just glad to find someone, and someone that looked trustworthy to help them. Thank you for helping them and getting them to safety. I've been broke down a few times with no one stopping to help, and in a questionable area, before everyone had cellphones. Enjoy your truthful no bull videos, gosh RUclips needs more of that, need hip waders to scroll through the BS. sometimes. Stay safe and GOD bless
I remember the couple that you helped out video - they were very fortunate that you saw them/they saw you - could have had a different outcome completely.
The trip where you helped the couple was not a bust at all. You saved their lives that night and prevented their families from having to deal with a terrible situation. I'm sure they will never forget that.
I started to get my gear together for camping because I had to get a bug out bag setup for wildfires. Having to evacuate without a clear plan is frightening and frustrating BTDT. I realized I was on my way to having what I would need for camping. It’s minimal and things I will truly use. And it gives me the freedom now to take trips on my own. My first solo trip is next week!
I live in Syracuse, NY, which has held the snowfall record for many years, and this year I actually forgot where I put my snow brush 😳 I picked a bad year to take up snowshoeing. Love your channel. 🤟😎👍
Luke, I love how you venture out in weather that makes most folks say "nah, I'm going to stay home this weekend"... both for gear reviews and truck camping. Especially for the gear reviews, good to see how it performs in non-ideal weather.
When it comes to being a prepper, others will criticize your amount spent on supplies. "You will never use that stuff. What a foolish waste of money!" But that is actually our hope- that we will never have to use them.
Agree. I look at it as buying any other insurance and hopefully never file a claim. In FL, so Hurricanes always a decent possibility and therefore always prepping. As for SHTF or runs on items like happened during the Coof. We've got enough for awhile, to get past the panic at least. We can have a cup of coffee how we like it in relative peace, then use our TP rather than fighting over the last roll at the store. Avoid that stress hopefully putting that energy to better use.
I really enjoyed your hike up to the bald, I could almost feel that wind when I heard it start whipping up just as you were exiting the forest. What a difference between the two environments!! Great content, thoroughly enjoyable. Thank you for sharing your passion, many of us can no longer get around well enough to be able to participate. We will just have to live vicariously through you. Strength and Honor.
Thanks so much Luke for sharing all your cool adventures with us and your excellent gear reviews. Your channel is awesome and I always recommend it to people. It’s given me a lot of inspiration to get out there more myself. Great to see truck camping in Drifter again!..
Thanks for taking us with you on your trip. 33yrs ago I used to do camping trips with my three girls and a friend with her three kids. We didnt have the advanced camping stuff like that of today. But we were warm, well fed and happy with what we had. Being brought up camping with my parents I knew what was needed and how to survive windy cold weather, we perfected what we needed to stay cozy and safe. I still have our Coolbox with what we used. We had a Challenger 5 Ridge Tent withe porch. Best years of our lives. Love your vidios. Cant wait for the next one.
Loved the Video ! One tip I have a tip if you can to keep your gas tank half full or better (I noticed yours was down to aprox. 1/4) ...I realize no one can do this ALL of the time but my grandfather always advise that I do this. It keeps you vehicle fuel system clean and you never know when gas may not be available ie. a natural disaster. Peace my friend.
Hi Luke! Happy (early) Valentine's Day! If you are looking for snow, head to Lake Tahoe. My BFF lives there on the mountain & they have feet of snow! I think with this gear thing, people are starting to panic over the Russia/China thing.
Luke, I’ve been a follower and subscriber of your channel for a number of years now and yours is the best by a country mile. Unfortunately, I am not a camper, due to location, funds and family commitments but your videos are so good I almost feel like I’m there with you. I love everything you stand for, how humble you are and how much you love nature, animals etc. One day I will begin my camping journey, but for now you’re keeping me going. Thanks Luke. Strength and honour.
When you said that about the heating pad. Luke from the outdoor boys. He is always camping in Alaska. For his warmth he makes hot water bottles an puts it in his sleeping bag and it always seems to work. I'm sure you've seen Luke's channel. He a great outdoorsman. I'm glad you tells us about all these products at least someone does thank you 😊
Love all your content 👍 have you ever gotten yourself into a very bad situation whilst out in those storms? And if so what is the one that sticks out the most and you have learned the most from?
Luke, do you know how many people world wide, you’ve shown and encouraged to go do what you do? I know at least 1.🌲😁🌲🏕️ Thank you to you and your family for an awesome TOGR. You guys make it exciting and we love every adventure. Absolutely awesome! From Nova Scotia.😊🏔️
Luke you and your wife are awesome and amazing people I respect you very much the way that you enjoy helping people I’m just now seeing this video I have watched a lot of your videos and I love each and everyone I love watching when you bring your wife along as well 13:22 much appreciated and respect from eastern Kentucky!!!😊
Real prepping is a mindset. Spend as much, or as little, but if you don't know, you're lost. I have a disability now and can't do what I used to, but one adapts cognizant of these changes. Rambling perhaps, but true preparedness is mental more than anything.
Went backpacking years ago in Yellowstone to Dunanda Falls which has a hot springs. I had that red light at night which I somehow thought would make me less interesting to bears. I kept it on all night. Those foggy hikes are the best! The bald was beautiful!
Better you than me, my friend. I can't even walk on a flat surface without falling. Old age and diabetes has taken all the fun away. God bless you and thank you. ❤
This is the 1st time I have seen your Video. I really enjoyed it for a Number of reasons! Good common sense advice, good planning, no BS about getting unnecessary, and sending a fortune, on gear you will never use! Your there, because you enjoy it! Heling someone in need is always a Big Blessing! Looking foreword to seeing more of your Videos! Thank You!!!
Love your philosophy regarding treatment of others. That is a character trait of a truly moral and good person who is respectful of all persons, even when the behavior is not observed by others. I am sure you make your children proud and they, in turn, display kindness toward others because this is the lesson you not only taught but modeled for them on a daily basis. Keep the videos coming and I will cross my fingers that you get some snow this weekend. Here in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains, we will likely get a cold, miserable rain.
I appreciate and respect your morals and values; you would be a great friend, one that could be trusted and counted on; which is very hard to find this day and age; keep up the great and awesome work....
Love this video. Im so happy you told the story about … just doing something because its the right thing to do! It made me glad i support your channel. Thank you for the many many years of great content. 😊 Im always looking forward to your next video. 🎉
I just recently started watching your videos and i am not even an outdoor person like that i just find your videos enjoyable and like how you come off in the videos. but i just watched that video you was talking about when you helped those 2 ppl. n i love how you just put it about pulling out the camera! big probs to you sir. n that is why i like watching your videos!! keep up the good work.
When I lived in Northern NY I kept 2-3 sleeping bags per person (my daughter and myself) kept crackers, peanut butter, water, other foods that would not matter if it froze, kitty litter ( for traction if get stuck), extra clothes, socks especially; and whatever my daughter and I thought we'd need when at my parents house- there was 3-4 hours ( summer driving time) between our houses; we'd call them when we left and about time to expect us there
I have two bug out bags actually, one for dodging tornadoes that's packed with emergency blankets, fire starters, radios, flashlight, good blade, change of clothes and plenty of cash. The other is my nationwide riots bag from 2020 where I could vanish into the wilderness for two weeks, three with conservation. Riots, behind enemy lines in war, you never know. The heaviest thing in it by FAR is ammo.
As for prepping, I just have a backpack for each person and I have our camping gear we use, most of the gear is kept in a plastic tub. It's not a lot of stuff, just enough for shelter and food. It's enough to keep us comfortable, but not too much to carry if we have to.
I wouldn't have filmed those people's misfortune either, you and Susie are good people, which is a big reason why I'm a member (I wish I could afford more). That foggy mountain trail you hiked was so beautiful. ❤️
The video you're talking about is the first camping video I'd watched. Now I camp all the time and subscribe to a bunch of camping channels on RUclips. Thanks
Hi Luke I live roughly 2 hours north of Toronto Ontario Canada we’ve got snow but it’s been one of the warmest winters I can remember love you content 👍
Prepping is less about buying and hoarding supplies and more about just being smart. Keep a blanket and extra clothes in your car in the winter in case your car dies and you’re stuck on the side of the road in the cold. Make sure you have another way to heat your house if the power goes out. Have a way to keep your phone charged. Get a generator to run your fridge so you don’t lose all your cold and frozen foods.
My sister used candles in her camper to keep warm also hung extra blankets over windows and door to keep out drafts take down daytime, put up at night she and her daughter and 3 kids spent winter this way
It's so weird that you haven't really had a winter! We live in southern Nevada and it's been down in the 20's at night and we even had snow in Las Vegas, believe it or not! But it is finally warming up with 60's daytime and 40's at night. Stay safe and keep on trucking!
I agree with a realistic approach to having a bag with what you need for things like forest fires or earthquakes like in California where I’m from . Every summer and fall we kept one plus kept our most important papers in envelopes ready to grab like for example the deed to our home birth certificate and such like a few days food medicine medical supplies. And if you drive you can pack your vehicle ahead of time if you know a fire is burning in your area within 10 miles of your location and the wind is blowing in your direction. I have seen fires travel a hundred miles in one day in 70 mile an hour winds the king fire is a good example of this as it traveled from tree top to tree top never touching the ground. The clevland fire did similar. As for living in southeastern Missouri we know we can’t stay in our rented mobile home during a tornado warning so we have planned to head to a stronger building within running distance because we don’t drive. If it’s daylight we can head to a business have lunch or a cup of coffee wait out the severe thunderstorm and head back home afterwards. Last spring we received a special weather statement so we had to get supplies anyway so we left to Walmart we figured we would get what we needed and by then the storm would have passed. Halfway there it got severe thunderstorm warned I could see it coming and noticed it looked bad the bottom clouds moved one direction the middle another and the top a different direction as well. We hadn’t been inside the store 5 minutes when all hell broke loose alarms went off on everyone’s phones stating a tornado warning and every siren in bolivar going off. A few minutes later we got hit by the worst hail I’ve ever heard it’s all you could hear hail hitting the metal roof over Walmart and the sound of skylights breaking and shredding from golf ball and larger hail the wind was also extremely loud. After that as we walked home it looked like it had snowed golf balls. Our mobile home had millions of dents and thankfully no busted windows because our mobile home has no windows on the side that the storm hit from its all metal siding. unfortunately our neighbors were not so fortunate many had there windows blown out or busted out many had taken shelter in their mobile homes . So we always kept a backpack full of what we need if we have to run for shelter during the night or day if another such storm hits.
Hey Luke, just ordered my cold weather kit for my Lite fighter 1. Can't wait for it to come so I can get out there too. I should have everything I need by next winter. I have everything I need for 2 season's & almost everything for the 4th... Anyway my friend stay safe & thank you for the knowledge & Gear reviews, it's like trying on before I buy lol...
Thank you so much for what you do! Because of you, I have saved SOOOO much money by not buying crap and then spending more money to get what I should’ve in the first place. I really do love your channel. By the way, please tell your daughter (from one old retired vet) her service is appreciated, tell Lukey hello from Montana, and please let your wife know that my daughter Eden LOVES her. In fact (don’t be offended) my daughter only watches the adventure videos if she is in them. LOL. Be safe, be honest, and be wise (our family motto). Strength and honor, Luke. Thank you.
I live in the rural desert southwest & our winter has been exceptionally rainy and windy compared to normal. We've had some huge storms that we normally only see during our annual monsoon season during summer months. About bugging out - I agree. I always have things stored in my vehicle ready to go if I have to, but mostly I have stored at home the basics I'd need to survive for awhile. I just keep those things on hand, hoping I'll never need them, but also not worrying about it.
Hey luke, I know you and Tony @ABcamping poke fun at each other, and I do have to say I agree with Tony about your music Choice. But with that being said. You do what works for you and it works for you. I know I am a bit more than 10 years older than you. But hey we all like our own style of Music. Keep up the great work my friend!
The ice event you are getting is probably what we got in Northern Texas got it light at first it melted and then got hammered by freezing rain and sleet. Everything was shut down for 3 days covered in a sheet of ice and below freezing temperatures
I feel your "rain pain." Until last June, I lived on the Canadian west coast. I've since moved to the Canadian prairies and I definitely don't miss the endless rain.
This one brought back found memories of deer camp in the Ozark Mt.s in Arkansas, or the Boston Mt.s - on public lands- also down south on the Saline River area south of hwy 270 - the Poorboy Deer camp, many a deer taken in those areas including the record white tail buck
Luke, I almost never hit the like button on RUclips videos. Your compassion and empathy for others deserves a big thumbs up. Thank you for your videos and the little life lessons you teach along the way.

According to Hitchhikers' Guide, all you need is a good towel.
When preparing for watch in the Coast Guard, we stayed in a room lit by a red light for a few minutes to acclimate our night vision.
As a truck driver I plan for being stuck for a few days at least but I also try to have some items to get me home in a extreme emergency.

Nothing like a fine gray day for a hypothermia hike. My soup here at home stayed warm the whole time I watched you. Thanks for a neat outing. 😎
In these days, to be as self sufficient as possible is the smartest thing to do. 😀
I'm with you, Luke, wish we were having a snowier winter season.
Consistent uploads of adventures are the many reasons i'm all in on TOGR!¡
Hello Luke, loved the video and God bless you for helping those people out!!!
When I lived in Northern NY I kept 2-3 sleeping bags per person (my daughter and myself) kept crackers, peanut butter, water, other foods that would not matter if it froze, kitty litter ( for traction if get stuck), extra clothes, socks especially; and whatever my daughter and I thought we'd need when at my parents house- there was 3-4 hours ( summer driving time) between our houses; we'd call them when we left and about time to expect us there
That forest is giving off a creepy sleepy hollow vibe 😂
I love your videos but this one's is one of my favorites. Love the wind. Glad it is you there instead of me. Happy to see you are safe.
Good day when he uploads
when you can't stand upright for the wend it is time to go home, thanks for the fun.
Listening to the intro music reminded me of a sci-fi/action movie or video game from the 90's.
Wicked conditions! Almost looks otherworldly 😮
Maybe I’m a little off track,,but that wind is eerie
Beautiful trail. Thanks for taking us along. Love your videos. ❤
For camp light, I really like to use a kerosene lantern. Turn the wick down low, nice gentle relaxing light.
Planning for the worst and hoping for the best is about the best type of insurance you can get.
Hey luke,
I know you and Tony @ABcamping poke fun at each other, and I do have to say I agree with Tony about your music Choice. But with that being said. You do what works for you and it works for you. I know I am a bit more than 10 years older than you. But hey we all like our own style of Music. Keep up the great work my friend!
The red light is like a campfire. No wonder it's easier to think.
The ice event you are getting is probably what we got in Northern Texas got it light at first it melted and then got hammered by freezing rain and sleet. Everything was shut down for 3 days covered in a sheet of ice and below freezing temperatures
U nailed it
Here in Minnesota we have had to much snow, ice and everything in between. Love your channel.
I feel your "rain pain." Until last June, I lived on the Canadian west coast. I've since moved to the Canadian prairies and I definitely don't miss the endless rain.
Thanks for sharing this video with me 😊👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 another enjoyable video.
maybe its just me but that trail looks like it would be fun on a mountain bike lol
I value his perspective
