There's something comforting and even calming to me about just this simple setup(raging storm with just enough protection and shelter) that I've always loved. Call me crazy 🤪
You are crazy. And so am I.
You're not. It's cozy!
There's something comforting and even calming to me about watching someone else do the setup before the Storm arrives.
Call me Lazy.
Strange..I find peace also in storms and weather. Guess I am cray too :) Much Love
Raging storm?????? it's a few drops of rain and a slight breeze in this video... he has idk 200 'storm' videoes on yt but none of them has anything even related to a storm in it....
A threaded rod and a couple nuts and washers through the holes in the center of the legs would prevent that colapse issue with the stove without adding much weight.
Using a piece of firewood cut to length would work, that's no weight
Or 2 tent pegs staking it from the outside through these leg holes. It's not gonna move easily.
I was thinking the same with using a cut to length piece of wood from processing fire wood.
@@GreenBayOutdoors There's hardly anything that I purchase that I don't have to tweak, improve, fix. We're guys, we can fix it.
This idea, combined with the tent stakes above as well, is an awesome solution! I'd say add the tent stakes bc I'd be worried about it toppling over somehow
Can’t wait to see an adventure with lots of snow involved, those are always the very best ones 😁
Luke's cold & snow adventures are the best!
I agree, the snow storm ones are the best, I think a lot of the reason for that, is he absolutely is in his element and he LOVES it!
Same! I tend to lose a bit of interest unless Mother nature is challenging them. Snow is the best!
I agree. I absolutely love snow but have never camped in snow. Maybe I'll give it a try.
Love winter camping
I often wonder what the unedited footage of Luke running around moving his cameras looks like. 😆
And the fact that his tent seemed to be placed down an incline lower than he'd parked the car, (@22:59) with down pours water follows gravity. Also, not fond of being in a tent during an electrical event.
@@rmsbrooks5606 Its fine, unless youre the tallest object around your odds of getting struck by lightning are exceptionally low
@@DeaconPain unless you live in Florida, lol.
Lmao
I hate these types of videos...
But somehow I find myself watching them every day. Good job man.
Just food for thought but I was taught years ago to always park in a way that puts me at an advantage if I needed to leave in a hurry. Strategic parking may seem like a small thing to most but I’ve actually been in situations where had I not parked that way, I’d have had issues. Even in icy situations it makes it nice to be pointed in the right direction in the event you need to leave quick. Just something to think about. Love your content! Keep it up!
Interesting story about strategic parking. Clyde Barrow, of Bonnie and Clyde infamy, had a habit of parking his vehicle in such a manner so as to facilitate an easier getaway should authorities catch wind of the location of Bonnie and him. But on 19 July of 1933 a person noticed a vehicle strangely parked, it had been backed in at the motor court room Bonnie and Clyde had rented. The vast majority of people simply pull forward into the space, not back in. Cops were alerted, a shootout ensued, and Clyde's brother Buck was shot in the head during their escape. Buck died in a hospital a few days later....
Paranoid
@@juicyj3819 Depends on what you're thinking. In this case, I'd rather have the vehicle close, so I don't have to run 25 yards in a violent thunderstorm.
I thought the same thing. Why is the truck parked so far. But I figured being a seasoned camper he had his reasons. Thought it was just me. 😃
@@themechaniacal1558 What an awesome story. I was riveted.
The metal rings on the stove door and adjustment points are so you can use a small stick through them to open the door, adjust the settings. The burns on your hands are to remind you to use the stick!
And heat resistant gloves hahaha.
Surely after the first burn you would use a glove? A cloth? A sock? The sleeve of your jumper? Anything other than bare skin? 😂
The way the tent bottom flopped in the wind I can't imagine heat staying in that tent for very long.
The stove provides radiant heat as well as convective heat.
No worries about carbon monoxide poisoning that night!
@@visnuexe With the excellent view of the blue smoke in the tent a little ventilation doesn't hurt.
Tents aren't about insulation or thermal mass, you get your heat in a hot tent from radiant stove heat, once the fires out the temp will drop fast draft or not.
I was thinking the same
Back in the 80s I was in a cold-weather battalion in the Marine Corps. We’d deployed to Norway and that’s what we spent our entire time preparing for when we were not in Norway, training to operate in Norway. Anyways, that stove we called it the “Yukon” stove. We also were able to hook up a fuel line to the stove which we seldom used. If we were in a 10 man tent and at a base camp we would hook up a liquid fuel line. But most of the time we used wood. I certainly enjoyed that video. It brought back memories seeing the Yukon stove.
You're enjoyable to watch, thank you for showing and teaching so much at the same time. Pretty nice to see being able to do so much with just the minimal but right gear.
I see a lot of comments on how to fix the stove legs, the point luke is making is you should not have to fix or adapt something that you have bought.
Regarding the stove: Two hooked tent stakes will hold the legs in place. Stoves are hot, so take out your trusty multitool pliers and grab the metal rings or metal points on the stove to adjust, not your fingers. Regarding the tent/teepee: If it had an interior wall/sheet (lining) that would drop from about 1/3 to 2 meters the height up the side wall to the ground, this would make it much better for heat retention (Like the Native Americans would use on their teepees).
Another awesome adventure! Recently, I completed my first solo 3-day trip. I binged A LOT of your videos beforehand to help get myself squared away. Thanks for having a willingness to share your awesome with the world!
that intro was extremely well shot like the start of a movie
When I’m stressed out after a difficult day, I find myself taking in your adventures. Clears my mind and comforts me. I’d love to have the wherewithal to do what you do. Mainly the time. We’re all too busy, aren’t we? Thanks for your channel and your content.
Same. Just found this channel.
You live a miserable life
Totally agree
That’s nice. Great to have a place to destress🍄.
In re: stove legs potential collapse; a simple solution, since no tent floor; therefore, just a tent stake placed at each foot preventing leg collapse or folding. 🤔
Or a stick in middle of bottom between the front and back legs theres a round hole on both. A stick.or pipe fits in the holes. But your way is definitely quicker
just a small log between legs.
or just do not use stove
Thought the same thing right away, or a rod between them.
METAL tent stakes. Most of them these days are plastic. And yes there are people dumb enough to make that mistake.
35 years in SE Florida, now in the high mountain west, and I will NEVER go back to the land of steaming heat and swarms of biting insects. Happy New Year to you and yours...
Great experience. I have a HELSPORT Lavvu tent, 6 to 8 person for me alone and I love it. No problems in storm if you use good tent stacks, these tent types have been used by mankind for thousands of years, the most storm resistant construction there is. Only downside might be, there is no window, so you are stuck inside in a storm without seeing nothing. But then again the style of tents that have windows are far less storm resistent as the lavvu style. HAPPY NEW YEAR to you and your family. Cheers. 👍
he is so perfect for this job because it's not a job for him. He is so humble, relaxed and natural ,' easy to watch and learn.
I like spring and fall myself. Not too cold and not too hot!! Bugs aren't too bad either!
That intro was perfection… your videos never disappoint …🙂
Great fun video Luke. I spent a year in a tent with a woodstove in Washington state in various locations outside of Seatle. I never got cold. It is a good memory. Your drone footage was also great in the aerial shots. Gave a unique perspective of your adventure. I'm always looking forward to your thoughtful gear reviews. Thanks for sharing your views.
Those drone shots at the beginning were beautiful!
I used to love camping alone (before children) and just drink in the mountains... build a fire, cook, hike, read a book... especially in fall when the elk are bugling... LOVE this!! So relaxing to watch. I have 4 teenagers now, plus dogs and guinea pigs, living in the city with neighbors and chaos.... and sometimes I dream of even just going to jail for the night so I can have some peace for longer than 4 hours. I got to live vicariously through you for a while and relax watching this, thank you.
I used to like to drink in the mountains too. Hot Toddy.
Indeed, very familiar situation with kids, endless chaos and time flying. No time for mountains and wild. At somepoint though you can introduce the wild, mountains and camping to your kids. Then there might be a change of getting out and back to the old days or close to it, rather than staying in the city.
Bring the kids camping, its good for everyone's soul.
I enjoyed my stay at the hospital for two days for the same reason, got some peace and quiet from the kids, lol. Even with the surgery.
Why don’t you drag one of your kids out with you and rough it?
My god, your filmmaking keeps getting better and better. Especially those drone shots, they were fucking incredible.
Wow Luke, your editing, producing and video footage has hit pro level imo. Super cool video.
Thanks for the great tip to treat the ground tarp with permethrin. The bugs here in Georgia are driving me crazy and the weather going back and forth from very warm to cold has them continually coming out then looking for warm places. Great work.
In a pinch, I'd have looked for some rocks of the appropriate size to put underneath the stove in case it became unstable. They have acted as heat sinks also. Love your shows thank you.
OR, would have found a way to secure the legs myself. However, keeping rocks under it seems like a good idea even with secured legs.
be careful with rocks and high temperatures - they might explode because of moisture
@@audhen1
Very true.
Love your anecdotes Luke.....I prefer the cold myself, especially for camping....
Loved the picture (video) of the tent in the clearing with the woods all around, early morning, and smoke coming out of the pipe. Beautiful! I may be a southerner (mostly Floridian) and love warmer weather, but I do love the beauty of nature all over in our country.
Always enjoy this style of video with the detailed set up and some actual weather to contend with. Would like to see another winter vid from that shed you have on lone wolf mountain.
Love the rain and wind 🍃 sounds!
I've been watching for several years and really enjoy your content! That said, the video sequence starting at 0:53 is some of the best you've ever shot...absolutely stunning! Keep up the great content.
I agree totally, beautiful
That table is one of the coolest things I've seen!
Good solution to your stove legs. The holes in the middle at the bottom of them either put a stick between them or one in each leg stuck in the ground.👍💚💛❤
LOVE the drone shots in the beginning! You are one lucky man to have those scenes near you 😍😍
Great stories Luke. Those were the days when we could roam and live life much more freely! All the best to you and your family in the New Year! Be safe and healthy!
What a great adventure. The filming of your videos just keeps getting better. As someone who just got into drones and video it was amazing. Also thanks to your channel over the last year it's rekindled my camping bug from my younger years. Thanks again Luke for all the hard work.
"anyway, that's all I care to know about that" hahaha love it. Thanks for sharing these great videos!
That dramatic Celtic music in the middle of this video scared the SH*T out of me. I thought he was about to be eaten by wolverines. I was about to start a RUclipsrs Prayer Chain. But, then the music stopped and I was no longer scared.
Indian here. I don't do well in the heat of India either. That's why I moved halfway across the planet all the way to Canada. Love your videos dude! Keep them coming!
🇨🇦👍👍
Luke, I’m so happy for you to get the e-chainsaw. When time is short and you need to process wood, that saw is the ticket. It just makes the camping experience so much better. You can have firewood much faster. If you need to build a camp site ridge pole, and wind breaks, other chores that involve cutting wood, you get it done quickly, quietly. Be safe. WHAT A GREAT DINNER !!! I’m a mountain guy, tried and true. I have lived on the plains of Central Texas and the SE Texas coast. It’s okay. Other folks can have the low lands. I’m going back to the mountains of E Tennessee/western N Carolina to retire. Thanks for sharing. SAH. Texas
I love having a wagon....you can place everything you need in it to get to camp site and also use it for firewood instead of making 4-5 trips. They make some decent large utility wagons that are metal. May be a good addition. 29:51 👍
I absolutely love that table!!! I need one of those in my life
Raindrops falling on ANY ceiling is AWESOME ... as long as they don't trickle through.
Always brilliantly produced.... thanks Luke and Susie for another great year of the TOGR .... watch them all without fail .. here's to 2022 !!!! Cheers 🍻🍻🍻🍻
I'd say camping in such a weather is exactly when you have a chance to feel how cozy it can be if you're prepared. Awesome! I am watching before going to bed, and mate that's why watching you cook is not a healthy thing cause I get hungry and it's too late for a meal )))))))
A question, though. With all the stuff you bring with you, why don't you use a more convenient gas stove? I mean those ordinary looking stoves where you can place one or two pots at a time with no risk of overturning them while cooking? When you are backpacking, a light weight gas stove makes sense, but this time weight is not an issue, is it?
Season's Greetings from snowy Russia!
Just to show how manly (and stupid) he is !
@@sidstevens9035 hey, let's be more positive, it's the new year time, Sid! ;) What if Luke just doesn't have one?..
@Sid Stevens The point behind his channel is to test gear, including stoves. I’ve seen him use single and double burner stoves in the past, he probably has one in the truck. Look for a review of the one he used this time in a month or two.
@@mikeboard1 sure thing, mate! My point is it was the right time and setting to do just that.
Luke. Wishing you n your family a Happy 2022 New Year.. Take care n stay safe.. 😃
This video was so well crafted and enjoyable to watch. Love that tent. Might have to get one of those.
29:50 gave me a good chuckle😂 wasnt expecting that at all😂😂
20 minutes in and I'm lovin this video! The drone footage and now the RAIN begins! I am sooooo looking forward to the snowy videos this winter. My fingers are crossed for snow too Luke.
Have been in many, many tents over the years, and other than the tropics, I’ve never been in a warm tent ⛺️
Happy New Year to you!...having storms while camping are the best videos and keeps you on the edge of your seat! Hope to see more interesting videos in the new year!
I really liked the table. Very compact and lightweight compared to a card table or one of those finger pincher camp tables. The holes in the stove legs, makes me wonder if a rod that extends between the two was missing or could be added which would lock the legs apart. Thanks for the video.
My thought was to use a threaded rod, large washers and nuts to spread the legs using the holes.
I love cold, rain, snow, thunder, lightning and more cold!
It’s actually nice to know you get frustrated and pissed off just like the rest of us!
Happy New Year Luke! I very much enjoyed this. I appreciate the work that goes into your videos. Also, your reviews are unbiased and spot on. Take care brother!
Hey Luke, when you buy some longer, better quaility tent pegs, use 2 to bang into the ground thru the legs on the stove. (at a 45 angle ect.) Cheers, keep up the awesome ,informative vids.
Great video Luke love camping in a storm. Greetings from Ontario Canada. All the best for the new year. That food looks so good
I really enjoyed watching all of your videos. Learning new things all the time. Thank you❤
This was my favorite of all your videos I’ve seen. I watched it twice in a row. 😋My favorite part was when you were chopping wood 🪵!! It brought to me a reminder of what a real man looks like. (I live in California and that’s hard to find.) Honestly, if you look up “man” in the dictionary, it would be that part of your video playing! 😂 and I LOVED that axe! I knew how sharp it was by the way it destroyed those logs, and also the sound it made and it was exhilarating to see haha! Thanks for being awesome!
Awesome video as always, thoughts and prayers to those families affected by the storms. 🙏🏻❤️
Awesome video!! Don't be afraid to upload long videos, I have no problem watching Tony & Bruce for 2+ hours and I would gladly watch your long videos as well 👌👍✌
Couldn't agree more! One hrs at least I love "cigar time"
Luke, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and the family! Marla and I have a Pomoly Hex Plus hot tent. Stayed out in it last winter during 2 big snow storms and about 12 days of winter nights and weather. Stout piece of equipment for the price! Great filming BTW, looking forward to your vids in 2022. Don't forget, you make it out to the Rockies again let me know, we'll meet up for a camp experience!
Looks delicious the meal you cooked for dinner time.
The colors are so beautiful only found in nature Thank you for sharing
My late grandpa had one of those huge tents given out during the depression era. He and my grandma lived in it during the depression. He used railroad spikes to tie it to the ground and kept it waterproofed. When I was a kid we'd go camping on the New River at Thurmond and stay a week at a time. Nice spring of water coming off the mountain into a rock pool. Burnt wood and coal to heat and prepare food as West Virginia gets cold in those hills.
Also, to stabilize legs - a piece of metal stock (aluminum) between the lower crossbeams of legs would force them to stay apart on any ground in the event you can’t stake them.
There’s nothing better or comforting, than falling too sleep in a tent when it’s raining. 👍💖🇬🇧❤️
Or a tin roof,....Mother had one of those.
Next time bring some inexpensive (or expensive) vanilla to pour over your burns. It will help prevent blisters and reduce the pain. You will still peel later on (weeks perhaps) but no blisters. But it has to be done right away. Please keep in mind that this is not meant for burns where your skin actually comes off but to prevent blisters and pain, works like a charm!
Reminds me of camping yrs ago the noise of the rain hitting the tent puts you to sleep!!!...awwhh defo have to get back into camping once more!!
Happy New Year Luke! Looking forward to more videos! This one was great! Perhaps you could use a narrow dowel to open the stove door. A pain, but it could save injury..
I bought small metal carabiner clips and attached them to my stove cap with lines to make the stove more stable in my tent during windy evenings. Love the video!
Great idea. I don't camp but have seen these stoves on several channels and wondered why people don't jerry rig some kind of guy lines off the chimney pipe. Now I know someone that does! Lol
This!!!!
Would a buddy heater be good enough to keep a tent like that warm if u were in a pinch and maybe didn't have enough time to gather wood or in an emergency situation?!
Great video! You can probably wedge a stick or something through the holes in front and back legs to keep from folding.
Great video as always, just glad you chose green instead of white for your tent ...
Happy new year Luke been watching you for while now and this year I thought to myself life’s to short to short to be stuck indoors and we live by the new forest in the u.k so I brought a family tent and a 2 man tent and spent most of this year camping with family and friends or on my own and I have loved it thanks for the inspiration
I started hot tenting last year. I was amazed by how much of a difference adding a fan made. I know that heat rises, but I didn't think that I would be able to tell the difference from raising my hand in such a small tent. I highly suggest getting a fan. Get a stove fan or a battery operated fan that you can hang from the top of the tent.
I really enjoyed this one 👍🏻 thanks & keep em coming…. Peace ✌️ best wishes to one and all for the new year ahead 🙏🕊
I love the cold......hold on now......i love it because it makes me appreciate the warm so much more. Peace and God bless😎
You just slay me dude ,I always want to see what you’re cooking and how you do it in the middle of nowhere , like a gourmet !! Bravo
Wow, Lone Wolf Mountain is gorgeous from the sky. When my son-in-law goes hot tenting, he carries his heavy duty cold weather sleeping bag, that way he gets to sleep; just uses the stove to stay warm during the day. Happy New Year to you and Yours; may it bring all of us Health and Happiness.
*Cot Bed..? Table..? Chainsaw..? 😳 You little Glamper you..! 😆🤣😂 Love your videos, packed full of useful information..! Keep’em coming..!*
Happy New Year to everyone. I was thinking about the stove, maybe putting stakes through the holes in the legs might make it more stable.
I love that stove!! I ordered your hatchet for my son today. Hope you get a part
Very enjoyable, you really have some stellar experience in this role. I love the weather increment !
Absolutely beautiful job! The shots were great. You always knock your vids out of the park. Great job as always. Have a happy new year!
Production and editing on these videos seems to get better and better every time.
Been watching you and others camp in these ,less than ideal, situations for years and years now. I was a fair weather camper for sure.
I'm now a dad camping with family, and for the last 4 years it has rained on us every time we get out. If prepared its really no big thing.
Anyway Luke, I no longer think your weird for liking storm camping.
Your drive up those colors are so beautiful!
Just found the channel. Really like the adventure 👍🏻
No matter how many of these things I watch, I'm always amazed at the amount of bags there are.
Hey Luke, great video! I was actually out in my Pomoly Hex Plus tent during the same storm here in Eastern PA. You should try one of Polmoly's stoves if you don't like the One Tigress. I have the T Brick ultra which holds a ton of wood. Some things that may have helped you, instead of staking the tent with the cords, use the tent loop directly so that you don't have any gaps around the bottom, and also weigh down the snow flaps with logs or rocks for extra protection and insulation. Last thing I do is I hang a small rechargeable fan pointing down to circulate the hot air back down to the floor. You will feel a big difference doing that. I love my hot tent and stove, and thanks for the video!
I bet you had fun in that tent. Hi from NE PA.
Luke use a twig or multi tool when playing with that stove.
I live in New Ringgold pa and we had a massive wind rain storm on the blue mountain last week
the idea of using a small fan to get back hot air is kind of genius, I'll give it a try!
Those drone shots were amazing. Great adventure Luke.
First thought when a major storm is imminent bring your vehicle up next to your tent so if you need to make a quick getaway you can and it will provide a wind block
Ich wünsche Dir Gottes Segen auf Deinen Abenteuer Touren. Pass gut auf Dich auf. Tolles Video. 🙏👍
GREAT VIDEO!! To be honest, I was VERY concerned about you staying out there! I'm glad you were safe! Thank you for your time and energy you put into your videos! Your videos are Exceptional!🥰
Why VERY concerned? I've watched videos where what he was doing was much more dangerous. If there is anything you learn about Luke is that he is very safe in what and how he does things. He has great situational awareness of what he is doing and where he is.
@@sassylady2001 I was concerned about the tent holding up in the wind. The tent stakes were pretty much crap!🥰
Luke, you have me so well trained, that when I saw the stove, I yelled "coffee time!" Happy New Year to the entire family!
I grew up on the edge of the Mojave Desert; have lived mostly on Washington's Olympic Peninsula for more than a half-century since those days. Though extremes of either can prove challenging--I've experienced -45F in Fairbanks, AK and worked outside in -35 F in Minneapolis, MN, I'll take the cold over heat most anytime.
Algonquin Park backcountry in Ontario is pretty amazing covering thousands of acres ; and it's not too far from Deerhurst Inn- a supper fancy resort with ski hills, luxury chalets and hotel , and a high tech sports complex and boutiques.
That food looks yummy!! This looks so relaxing plus listening to the rain! I'll be passed out!😩
