It was a clean punk redux, was great but got old when everyone was doing it.
i would love to know why this genre isn’t around anymore
Same
I think we just outgrew it, not so much as the style of music but as an attitude. People just kinda got over white suburba kids complaining about their parents and school and how life is unfair, maybe cuz at this point in time things were going ok and nowadays teenagers are more away of how fucked things are looking for them. And dont get me wrong, this is still my shit but its unbelievably corny now.
Zee Nooo i did not outgrow it, i still love these types of songs. and i don’t really care about lyrics i just mean the instrumentals, we need to bring back this style of guitar in songs.
Of course pop punk is still around, the spotlight's just on funk and electronic for now. Trends come and go, genres don't. Just gotta look hard enough lol
I mean, it's existed since way back then. We're talking 80s acts like Billy Idol or the B-52s, onto the 90s with REM and many others. Heck even the Beatles could count if you have enough imagination. Punk never dies.
I miss the days when rock music used to be all over TV & the radio. Now all u hear is hiphop & pop

Looking at the date of this song makes me feel old. I listened to The Anthem everyday in middle school and now I'm listening to it in my last year of college!
Clearly you learned nothing from listening to the song that many times "I could never live the way they want"
So because I go to college, I learned nothing from listening to this song? "I could never live the way they want" could mean a lot of things. I wanted to go to college and work in a field that I love. So maybe you need to listen to the song a bit more closer and stop judging others.
Wolverineeeeeeee dude i was joking clam down. all i was saying is it's ironic how you love this song yet pretty much half of it talks about not wanting to be rebellious and not listen to how people told them to live their lives, for example
At my high school, it felt more to me
Like a jail cell, a penitentiary
My time spent there only made me see
Go to college, a university
Get a real job, that's what they said to me
But I could never live the way they want
I'm gonna get by and just do my time
Out of step, while they all get in line
I'm just a minor threat, so pay no mind
Do you really wanna be like them
Do you really wanna be another trend
Do you wanna be part of their drill
'Cause I don't ever wanna
I don't ever wanna be you
Don't wanna be just like you
What I'm sayin' is, this is the anthem
Throw all your hands up
You, don't wanna be you
and then there is that bit about playing with your dick after you take a piss.
that probably came across a lot ruder than I meant it to, sorry in advance.
*****
Yeah sorry if I was rude too. I was having a bad day and I took it out on you. You are right it is kind of ironic but to me this song means not doing what my father says to do. He thinks just because I'm a female I should be a vet, chef or a hair dresser then get married and become a mother. Well I don't want to do any of that right now. I want to be an Software Engineer and make video games! I definitely don't want kids anytime soon either. I just want to do what I love.

Teenagers of 2016 should listen to this kind of music, instead of being programmed by modern stuff.
+ParadiXe311 Some of us do. Who cares really, people can listen to what they want.
***** Great point... as long as what people listen to doesn't program them to do something negative.
ParadiXe311 Thanks. Wouldn't worry too much, most of us have our heads screwed on properly. And music like this is totally sweet, glad I grew up with my sister who listened to rock, punk and metal when I was a kid. Really inspired what I listen to now. Most of her music actually haha like this.
Don't get me wrong, aggressive negative music is good, as long as people use it as therapy, instead of using it as motivation to act out negatively, in real life.

JADED Yeah, definetely not a masterpiece. I'd say that anthem part 2 by Blink is close to a masterpiece considering that it has some great intrumentation as well as lyrics. Anthem is really good. This song is kind of not that bad if you turn your brain off and just listen.
Harry Dykhoff you just earned a sub
Yeah
Here we go
It's a new day
But it all feels old
It's a good life
That's what I'm told
But everything, it all just feels the same
And my high school
It felt more to me
Like a jail cell
A penitentiary
My time spent there, it only made me see
That I don't ever wanna be like you
I don't wanna do the things you do
I'm never gonna hear the words you say
And I don't ever wanna
I don't ever wanna be you
Don't wanna be just like you
Oh, what I'm saying is
This is the anthem
Throw all your hands up
You
Don't wanna be you
Go to college
Or university
Get a real job
That's what they said to me
But I could never live the way they want
I'm gonna get by
And just do my time
Outta step while
They all get in line
I'm just a minor threat, so pay no mind
Do you really wanna be like them?
Do you really wanna be another trend?
Do you wanna be part of that crowd?
'Cause I don't ever wanna
I don't ever wanna be you
Don't wanna be just like you
Oh, what I'm saying is
This is the anthem
Throw all your hands up
You
Don't wanna be you
Shake it once, that's fine
Shake it twice, that's okay
Shake it three times
You're playing with yourself again
You
Don't wanna be just like you
What I'm saying is
This is the anthem
Throw all your hands up
Y'all got to feel me
Sing if you're with me
You
Don't wanna be just like you
(Be just like you)
This is the anthem
Throw all your hands up
Y'all got to feel me
Sing if you're with me
Another loser anthem
(Whoa-oh)
Another loser anthem
(Whoa-oh)
Another loser anthem
(Whoa-oh)
Another loser anthem
When I listened to them back in 2005 2006, I was 15 years old and didn't understand a word of English. But was jamming to their music and trying to dress like them, which is why people were tryna bully and laugh at me for being different growing up in Russia. But the crazy thing is now I fluently speak English and what they say in their songs is literally how I always felt : "go to college or university, get a real job thats what they said to me but I can never live the way they want..." dropped out of university cuz I didn't like it at all and only was doing it cuz my parents told me so. Never had a real job for more than one-two months. Still managed to do what I like, whatever it is, make money and enjoy life. F a 9 to 5, I don't want that boring life!!!
bro i felt the same when this song wa released i had 14 years old, i didnt know how to speak any word in english but now i can understand they fluent. but talking about that u dont want to have a bored life i have a great tip to u bro. read some books like thin grow rich, secretes of the millionaries, rich father poor father, all these books have one thing in common its that all people since they are kids we are teaching to attend school or university just to we get a " real job" and work hard for other, but not to us. if u want one tipe, read all these books and try to open some business to u in russia, i have one friend russian that are living here in my countri ( i from brazil) she told me that lemon is very expansive in russia while lemon its very cheap here in brazil u can try to open some store and buy lemons from brazil to sell in the russia. have alot of things that are very cheap here in brazil but its very expansive in russia this is a great idea to u have a " real job" working to ur ownself bro ...
I was born in 90 also
Good for you, dont listen to these people, just do you!
Meanwhile I'm 16: 👁👄👁
@Hugh Jass Nice name 👏🤣
Hits me right in the nostalgia
So does your profile picture.
Jordan McHaley Halo and songs like this were my childhood. Growing up sucks
Tell me about it. I'm going to college next year and I would give anything to be a kid again.
Jordan McHaley I graduated college 2 years ago. I wish I was still in college!
William Meakins Nice, man! Was college as fun as people say it is?
I wish these guys stayed young forever 😢
Their new stuff is great and is awesome to see how much they changed
One of the greatest songs ever made in the history of mankind. I remember when this first premiered on Video Hits, it was the first time I ever actually enjoyed music.
You ever remember your parents going "enjoy your youth, as before you know it it'll be gone" and now your sat there like "fuck they were right but we had the best music at that time"
I feel this on a SPIRITUAL level
Lol facts
The next step after you realize what they meant when they said that , is to shake your head in frustration while you tell your kids the same thing. They roll their eyes and look at you like you're dumb lol. All you can think is "One day son, you're going to know what I mean, but by then it'll be too late" Its one of those things that can't be taught, it has to be learned.
Their nagging made our music great :D
Every time I listen to this song, I think of "The Pacifier" with Vin Diesel
omg same!!
Same! Is this song in it or something?
+Danomano :) yup when he was teaching the kids how to protect themselves
+Ronan Grant I'm watching that movie right now haha lol
Same 😂
I was the only one from my group of friends that liked Good Charlotte I was so embarrassed to say that they were my favorite band but now I don't care they were a big part of my adolesce.
you rock
I'm curious as to how good of friends you thought you had when you couldn't admit who was your favorite band. Any of them ever here of Zeppelin, Sabbath, The Doors, the STONES, those are bands
@@jonlockwood248 Good Charlotte was for all the wanna be punk pop princesses to listen to that's why he'd be embarrassed by it.... It was the same as saying you like the back street boys.... or admitting to liking nickelback.........
@@timkenney9027 let me guess you must be in a cover band playing other's music and are just mad at them for making it by playing a few simple catchy cordes.or you don't really know that Punk Rock died in the early 80's?????
Nah I was playing my own metal 12 years ago in bars and clubs...
Never really got good but the experience was amazing.
38 years old now, but I wish I could go back into time to these years where everything was worry free for me !!!! Awesome genre !!!!!
The most 2000’s opening movie sequence song there has ever been! Just fills me with great vibes man. Lightning in a bottle were those times 😌

This song reminds me about those movies for teens in early 2000's. Is just the kind of music used at the end to make a party because everything ended well.
+Jack Archer can you name me any good 2000's movies i loved those movies :D
Eurotrip, American Pie,
This used to be one of my favorite bands growing up in elementary and middle school years. The Madden brothers were so damn cute to 10 year old me , especially Benji 😂

The most nostalgic thing for me is that drum sound.
This is an anthem worth standing for.
Adam Conrad so true
I'm 16 and i enjoy 90s and Early 2000s music maybe even if I'm not born in early 2000s maybe this kind of music make my teenage memorable💗
Teens in the late eighties, nineties, 2000-2008 ... had it better than any other generation on so many levels.
true...2015 and onward was the death of good times in the west and may never recover
back then you had to make a good songs to chart. Today its about social media presence. It why rap so popular because it about persona and not about music. in fact most rappers not talented enough to do it live. Its only genre which you can have kindergarten level knowledge of music theory and still hit top of charts.
@@spark300cou’re so right. Anything hits the top charts now. Most are so bad…
@@bobloblaw70302009 man. You must’ve been too young to remember the housing crash.
exactly,i wouldn't want to be a teenager today.
Oh my gosh, I'm 12 again listening to this!!!! Anyone else 28(ish) and feel like they got into a time machine while listening to this song! Man I had the whole CD memorised front to back.
Yes!!! I remember listening to this CD on my Walkman!
I'm 36...
And they're from my hometown...
I love this because my beautiful, badass daughters listened to it long time ago lol 😂, they are 30 and 28 years young and amazing! Bringing back the memories
Watching 2020
I was just thinking that!... throwing a big F.U. to 2020...

Graduated high school in 1998. The pop-punk generation was so popular from my senior year and thru my college years. Hearing this brings me back to my best years in life!
