raggedy-smith Just wait till it's been 20 years or more. I still remember buying my first Nirvana EP, the single with Sliver and Dive just on a whim one day well before they got big. Can remember being excited for Incesticide lol. Of course the 90's was a great time for music. Lots to be excited for in so many different genre's. I remember back when Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous was just worn out on the radio being two or three times on the way to school and on the way back from school everyday for over a couple of months I'm pretty sure and that's being very lenient with the time! Couldn't agree with you more on this comment. I've been listening to this song just as long, and every time I listen to it, I have to play it back a few times 😂! 👍
I think that this is a great collaboration because that Shadows' lyrics send it over the top, and Synyster Gates has a amazing closeout solo that still has his signature, touché boys!
I like that Synyster Gates puts a very modest and expressive fitting solo for the song and not anything super shreddy like he would normally do for A7X. He served the song. Classy 😎👌🎸

This song is just a masterpiece. Great lyrics, amazing metaphors and both Shadows & Gates add just that extra touch. 2016 promises to be an amazing year: GC making a comeback A7X has a new drummer Sum41 made a new album and Brownsound rejoined :D Blink182 is making a comeback with Matt Skiba Can't wait!!
For anybody wondering: This song isn't about Christianity or religion at all. It's just using it as a metaphor. The song is about living in L.A. trying to make it big in the industry and how it's not always as great and glamorized as it looks but once you're in, it's tough to get out.

HALFWAY THRU 2024 AND I'M STILL SCREAMING EVERY SINGLE WORD TO THIS SONG SOBER TODAY IN MY 30's.. When it first came out I was living in my car so strung out on Heroin and prescription opiates that I lost everything and everyone in my young life then,..I wooly drive to this abandon bridge every night.. And just scream 'LIKE THE PRODIGAL SON,I WAS OUT ON MY OWN NOW IM TRYIN TO FIND MY WAY BACK HOME.. BAPTISED IN THE RIVER.. I'M DELIVERED"... I finally seen the vision of my life.. And I delivered myself through that fire.. Sober 9 yrs thanks to amazing songs like this That kept me fighting... NEVER GIVE UP MY FRIENDS.. NO MATTER HOW DARK THE PATH BECOMES.. TRUST THAT IF U KEEP WALKING.. YOU'LL FIND THE LIGHT EVENTUALLY,!
This came out before I got sober in 2009. I sought God for 10 years, and found Christ in 2019. The lyrics to this song didn't hit me until today. So amazing to hear that God restored you. I pray you're living an amazing life for Him, and continuously finding comfort in His love for you. We're truly the blessed ones.
People in the comments are hating towards Synyster Gates' solo at the end of the song, it is a pop-punk song. Good Charlotte is a pop-punk band and the pacing is way different from a normal Avenged Sevenfold song. He couldn't just rip open a face melter and it just fit in with the song. I thought the solo sounded fine with the song.
Reece Brown it's a well thought out solo & works well with the song....but he is light years away from 4th best guitarist ever, I could name several better...Marty Friedman, Dave mustaine, Randy Rhodes, Jake e Lee, Michael Angelo batio, yngwie malmsteen, buckethead....the list goes on and on...syn is good, but far from legendary
Reece Brown just because he's won some internet voting polls which then had to say he's one of the best doesn't mean he IS one of the best,he's good but there are tens of other guitarists that are better.
I remember listening to this when I was 8 the song melody and tone caught me and when I got older I really understood the lyrics. "As I walk through the valley of the shadow of LA" *is him comparing the modern city to a place of wickidness*. "Footsteps that were next to me have gone their seperate ways" *When he embarked on his path to God people who he though would be by his side no matter the reasoning have abandoned him and he is on this journey alone.* "Baptized in the River on my own" *He says that even if there is no Baptist he will do it alone he will do it himself.*
God baptizes us by changing our hearts. I think the lyrics mean he wants to turn away from the wickedness of the people around him, but he's the only one he knows turning away from it. He's running back to the Lord and away from what he thought he wanted in the world.
As I walk through the valley Of the shadow of L.A. I'm not really into christian music and such but I gotta admit this song's real catchy. Even though Matt's voice is really raspy he still sings amazing. The fact that Shads and Gates are in this makes it a damn good song. In my opinion all you gotta do to make ANY song of ANY genre better is if you add more A7X :D
I dont get how Christian music is even a genre... to be honest it JUST the lyrics that are about chritianity. Lyrics dont define the song. The way the song is played by tge band defines the song. Lyrics could be about, God, a goat, a lego, or death of a best friend. There's a difference between story, and genre of a song. If it sounds nice listen to it, if it doesnt, don't.
Neal Caraballo To me it don't matter. Christians apparently say that the Devil created all music but I don't wanna start anything. Besides I choose Avenged Sevenfold over anything.
Yeah, there is very little music from Christian bands that I find appealing, and this song is one of the few. Synyster Gates is fucking awesome! They should have had Zacky on too, so they could have a rad guitar duel for the solo.
Man, the nostalgia wave just hit me hard. I used to listen to GC all of the time as a teenager and I have been an A7X fan since 2001. Love all of these guys ❤️.
they came out with a new song not long ago but it didnt real feel like the punk fuck you we do waht we want good charlotte of the early 2000's which sucks
Saw them on march 5th, 2011 here in Allentown Pennsylvania where I live at the now gone local venue known as Crocodile Rock Cafe. During this song, they added "Rest in peace, Jimmy" in honor of rev.
I've listened to this song probably 500 times over the years, and I've honestly never once finished it without scrolling back to 1:20 for that nasty bass and Daddy Shadows splitting the atoms of a molecule with that nuclear voice of his. This song is so iconic.
A highly underrated song, composed by two amazing vocalists, accompanied by one of the most talented bands, hosted in a visually stunning video. In short: I love this video, the song, the band. ❤❤
I remember hating this song as a teenager, but now I'm nostalgic for the days when the worst thing on the radio was a song with real instruments, guitar solos and no auto tune in the vocals.

To know that beautiful things don't always stay that way

To know this beautiful place isn't everything they say

Like the prodigal son, I was out on my own
Now I'm trying to find my way back home
Baptized in the river
I'm delivered

Underneath these lights
Down in Hollywood on the boulevard
The dead come back to life
To the praying mother, and the worried father
Let your children go

I love Good Charlotte, but I feel that this is proof that with a bad ass singer, a great song can become a fucking amazing song. When M Shadows comes in it just takes it to a whole new level
Well duh
And then Synester Gates comes in at the end with that killer solo to perfectly top everything off.
M Shadows and Synyster Gates literally owned this song with their power. Rock legends!
15 years later, I'm still here. Today is 28th December, so I just gonna say foREVer, we miss you Jimmy. This song is perfect btw
I was OBSESSED with this song when it came out. It made my summer that year.
Same here repeatedly over and over before I headed to school or work on Saturdays.
true is my go to song.
Agreed, haha. Still a good song.

The part when syn comes in and plays his fingers over the guitar like he's mentally manipulating it gets me everytime, amazing
Love this part too!!
Syn is a great soloist.
Goosebumps
Honestly, love that moment too.
I don't know what's better in this video. M. Shadows or the topless girl.
Both

I still get goosebumps when M comes in 😍😍🤯 with that good old raspy voicee

Lyrics:
As I walk through the valley
of the shadow of LA
The footsteps that were next to me
have gone their separate ways
I've seen enough now
to know that beautiful things
don't always stay that way
I've done enough now
to know this beautiful place
isn't everything they say
I heard that evil comes disguised
Like a city of angels
I'm walking towards the light
Baptized in the river
I've seen a vision of my life
And I wanna be delivered
In the city was a sinner
I've done a lot of things wrong
But I swear I'm a believer
Like the prodigal son
I was out on my own
Now I'm trying to find my way back home
Baptized in the river
I'm delivered
I'm delivered
You're from a small town
you're gonna grow up fast
underneath these lights
Down in Hollywood on the boulevard
the dead come back to life
To the praying Mother
The worried Father
Let your children go
If they come back they'll come home stronger
and if they don't you'll know
They sing that evil comes disguised
Like a city of angels
I'm walking towards the light
Baptized in the river
I've seen a vision of my life
And I wanna be delivered
In the city was a sinner
I've done a lot of things wrong
But I swear I'm a believer
Like the prodigal son

beautiful lyrics! I love it!

i just love the raspy sound of M. Shadows' voice, such strength. This song is really awesome, 10 years now and still a favorite of mine.
Couldn't agree with you more on this comment. I've been listening to this song just as long, and every time I listen to it, I have to play it back a few times 😂! 👍
I really want to see an M. Shadows and Corey Taylor collaboration!
That would be the day we loose our every drop of cum

The lyrics deliver a powerful message, thank you father for your sacrifice and blessings I receive daily . I promise to never let go
I think that this is a great collaboration because that Shadows' lyrics send it over the top, and Synyster Gates has a amazing closeout solo that still has his signature, touché boys!
funny thing is that M.Shadows didn't write the lyrics, the Madden bros did:P but yeah, his voice definitely made it sound better
God this song is so good, it's disgustingly underrated. Takes me back to my teenage years, but it's just as good now maybe better.
mozart would be proud 😂 but really
I love Good Charlotte. The lines that really struck me in this song were M.Shadows and I never knew for so many years
I like that Synyster Gates puts a very modest and expressive fitting solo for the song and not anything super shreddy like he would normally do for A7X. He served the song. Classy 😎👌🎸
At 02:40 you know it's Synyster Gates when he does that hand move thing before/after solos...
panic! treasure its called divebomb
And the vertical playing
And how he stands as he's playing
This song will never get old ESPECIALLY with M.Shadows and Synyster Gates :D
+KOP CYBER Syn probably came up with this solo in about 2 seconds haha

@@Lanumusicworld itu itu
For anybody wondering: This song isn't about Christianity or religion at all. It's just using it as a metaphor. The song is about living in L.A. trying to make it big in the industry and how it's not always as great and glamorized as it looks but once you're in, it's tough to get out.
if so, what does he mean by "I've done a lot of thing wrong but i swear im a believer" kind of confused
+Ricardo Castillo it means that he still believes in good, the music industry has some pretty messed up people in it.
should check out psalm 23:4 jkv version. I do believe this song is about religion.
It's both :)
+Haley Hall It's actually not.

It’s been 10 years or so since I’ve listened to this song last time, and, god, their voices sound like they sequence each other. No winners, no losers. True masterpiece.
It’s 2023 this song still give me chills. Best collaboration with M Shadows ❤
So many memories of my teenage years. I wish I could turn back time 🥺
1:22 that moment when M. Shadows appears & owns entire song with his purely MASCULINE voice......
I didnt even see M. Shadows name in the title but when it got to his part I was like...Is that M. Shadows? No...It cant be and then it was
People in the comments are hating towards Synyster Gates' solo at the end of the song, it is a pop-punk song. Good Charlotte is a pop-punk band and the pacing is way different from a normal Avenged Sevenfold song. He couldn't just rip open a face melter and it just fit in with the song. I thought the solo sounded fine with the song.
It's also fwarkin hard to modulate that well in tune they way he is
Hahaha 3 words to you is a "solo"...... wrong.
And that's why Synyster Gates is the #4th best guitarist of all time, it shows, he's fucking awesome
"Footsteps that were next to me have gone their seperate ways" *When he embarked on his path to God people who he though would be by his side no matter the reasoning have abandoned him and he is on this journey alone.*
"Baptized in the River on my own" *He says that even if there is no Baptist he will do it alone he will do it himself.*
God baptizes us by changing our hearts. I think the lyrics mean he wants to turn away from the wickedness of the people around him, but he's the only one he knows turning away from it. He's running back to the Lord and away from what he thought he wanted in the world.
13 year old me! 6 years later and I still freak out whenever I listen to this song.
Me too!!! what a great song!! when MTv used to play music.

Great memories!!!
At 1:18-1:19, i always thought that transition between Joel to Paul was so cool.I still get the chills watching that part.
How is this Christian? Lmao
TheAfghanArab Just listen closely and you'll see its Christian but like I said I don't wanna cause a big all debate.
Yeah, there is very little music from Christian bands that I find appealing, and this song is one of the few. Synyster Gates is fucking awesome! They should have had Zacky on too, so they could have a rad guitar duel for the solo.
Even tho syn had such a short part in the track, his presence within the video and song overall is insane. The star of the track for sure
I love how every solo Syn does looks so smooth and effortless on his part. Like he does the same exact pose every time XD
Those notes on Synyster solo, so crystal clear, I wanna be able to play like this soon, feeling every note and in tenpo, go make it just sound awesome

Still the best song GC recorded and this is one of the best colabs of the last 15 years
Saw them on march 5th, 2011 here in Allentown Pennsylvania where I live at the now gone local venue known as Crocodile Rock Cafe.

Holy molly. I loved this song when I was 16, now I'm 29 and trying to fix the mistakes of my past and have a whole new appreciation for this song 🎵
Basically same. This song takes on new meaning the older you get.
I remember hating this song as a teenager, but now I'm nostalgic for the days when the worst thing on the radio was a song with real instruments, guitar solos and no auto tune in the vocals.
