    9:30 These things look great! I was looking for a way to make a small one for my weight belt to release when I find a hole in dirty water. Ended up buying the Omer specific device but these would be way cheaper and do the same thing - nice!

      Glad you liked it! I'll make a video at some point about how I make them, though I'm sure just by pausing the video, you can figure out how theyre made. Let me know if you have any questions about what I used to make it and why. Also, love your vids!

    From Australia here, 7mm surprises me, I didnt realise it was that cold there.

    • @TheWaterloggedWoodsman
      @TheWaterloggedWoodsman  Год назад

      It’s because the currents on the west coast come down from Alaska bringing the cold water. I’m the summer you might be able to do 5mm when it’s really warm.

    Very good video bossman! I just bought the Sportstube Series 2 and yeah it’s gonna be awfully tight. Sending it back for a series 3 after hearing from you. Do you run into any issues with the dimensions of the series 3 and airlines?? And when you get where you are is the series 3 a heavy burden to trek around in a car rental??

    • @TheWaterloggedWoodsman
      @TheWaterloggedWoodsman  2 года назад +1

      I've never had issues with the width of the tube, but more the length (can always turn the tube on its side to make it in narrow stuff). I always travel with straps and a towel to tie it on top of the car if I don't think it is going to fit inside. As for airlines, it is more location and airline dependent whether or not they charge oversize luggage fees, but american airlines allows sporting equipment to be oversize for no extra cost. Let me know if you have any other questions.

      @@TheWaterloggedWoodsman - I got too many questions actually LOL. I’m very new to the sport, bringing my archery background and love for water. I have lots of family in California, didn’t even think to get out there for spearfishing. Where in NC, SC or Florida can one spearfish without a boat? Was recently in Kona and it was super easy to get in on lots of fish and high visibility water.

    Nice ,I do spearfishing on California LA I use Mako 5mm wetsuit is perfect 👌

    • @TheWaterloggedWoodsman
      @TheWaterloggedWoodsman  3 года назад

      Yeah I think 7mm is a little overkill for that area. My brother wore a 5mm on our Catalina trip and he said it was great.

      @@TheWaterloggedWoodsman I'm actually debating between the 5mm and 7mm right now and i'm here in north county San Diego and laguna beach. Either of you guys have opinions? I have been diving in my 4/3 wetsuit i use for surfing and i've been a bit cold, but i definitely don't want to be TOO hot in a 7mm.

    • @TheWaterloggedWoodsman
      @TheWaterloggedWoodsman  3 года назад +2

      @@bpip706 7mm is probably too thick for that far south. It depends person to person, but I'm hot in my suit down there in the winter even A surf suit isnt meant for diving because they stay compressed and lose warmth at depth. A 5mm suit made for diving should be perfect.

    Just subscribed. Keep bringing the spearfishing videos. Why don't you just add larger diameter bands to the Mako? Or would that be too much? I'd do that before buying another gun but...meh...it's always fun getting new toys too heh!

    • @TheWaterloggedWoodsman
      @TheWaterloggedWoodsman  3 года назад +2

      Thanks for following! I don't like messing with the guns to much, especially bands because I dont trust factory trigger mechanisms. I have a fear of overloading the trigger and causing misfires. I'd rather just buy a bigger gun using safety as the excuse😂

    Over all good video. But sadly there is little light on the darker objects you show and it is hard to see them in detail.
    I especially liked the tips about garden gloves, and self made gear.

      @@TheWaterloggedWoodsman I just found your channel and subscribed. I also just started my interest in spearfishing. In my opinion the true value of your video is not the specific product you show but rather the experience you share. For example how long your fins last and that you consider using fin keepers. Also to always have a knife, the types of wet suit material or that it is important that a mask fits well, etc... All such details which you tell in the video for me is of great value! In your next video I would like to see how you attach the snorkel to your mask. I am always interested in self-made equipment.

      Yeah I went with 80 and I found it was the perfect reef gun for me up north. Decent range, and I wouldnt destroy the tip on the rock in caves.

    Is 5 mm Mako Wet suit warm enough for Santa Catelina Island Southern California? I am 5’5”” and 175 lbs , and my chest is 43 inches, should I get Mako wet suit size ML or Large? Thank you

    • @TheWaterloggedWoodsman
      @TheWaterloggedWoodsman  3 года назад

      5mm should be enough. My brother and I were there in two harbors last march and he had a 5mm. He said he was comfortable the whole time. As for suit size, I'd look at the charts and maybe call MAKO. I'm not sure of the sizing. I'm a larger person at 6'2" 210lbs so my size isnt the same. You could also stop by Spear America and talk to Petros. He'll get you a good suit. The man is extremely knowledgable.

    • @TheWaterloggedWoodsman

      Depends where. Southern California like LA area you probably want a 5mm, but up toward SF you definitely want a 7mm. Wide variety of conditions on the coast. If you narrow down the area I can be more help.
