Glad this video helped you out. It could definitely be overwhelming trying to figure out what you absolutely need and what is nice to have, especially when you're on a budget.
Love your vids bro. JUST started diving in Malibu. First times diving in Cali, usually only dive in Grenada in the summers, it’s quite an adjustment with the cold waters. Lol I got a 7 mill to cope. Thanks for sharing your gear setup
Appreciate the kind words! ooo yea that must be a big adjustment from the warm waters over there. Once summer temperatures & conditions come in you could probably be fine with a 5mm. You may be too hot in a 7mm. Glad this video helped give some ideas on what to get. Dive Safe!
I’m in the SoCal/626 area too and just getting into the sport. I’m looking to get a gun and would also be primarily shore diving with the rare occasion off a boat. Do you recommend the pathos? Or is there another option you’d recommend should budget be more open. I was thinking a Riffe maurader/comp/etc but not sure of the size especially around spots like PV. (It’s the only spot I go to)
Hey Leonard! I think the Riffe spearguns you are considering are all solid choices. I have plenty of great things about those spearguns, and think they would be great for doing both! I would get at least a 90+ if you plan on having a gun that can go off boats as well. One major thing I would consider is the weight of wooden guns, the weight will help absorb the recoil but will make it tougher to maneuver quicker. This could be a bit tougher when you want to go hole hunting when shore diving. Here are some additional picks to consider: Pathos Sniper Roller ($560ish) - I am biased here since I have an 85 roller. But I love this gun because it provides such versatility in one gun. The roller mechanism gives you the ability to pack a ton of power in a shorter length. With that being said, if you plan on having a gun that can go offshore, I would get at least a 95. A big PRO in my opinion is the ability to leverage the roller system to reduce power when you want when you start hole hunting. Patho Laser Open Pro ($270ish) - I would recommend at last getting at least the 100. A great entry-level gun with the potential to catch fish shore diving and on a boat. A big pro is the durability and ergonomic handle shape. The speargun is lighter so you are able to maneuver the gun quicker. Meandros B28 Open Camo ($360ish) - Pretty much the same reasons for the Pathos Laser Open Pro, and….the thickness of the tube of the gun is more than most tube guns so you are able to hold more power compared to other guns like the Pathos Open Pro. The trigger mechanism gets lots of praise for being buttery smooth as well. Hope this helps!
Great question! I currently put my weights in the ikea bag. When I hike down from my car to the shore I wear the weight belt around my waist. Hope this helps. Dive Safe!
Thanks for all the info. Looking into getting a float but wondering how difficult it is to get it out through breaking surf. Do you have trouble with that at all? Can you bodyboard that thing on the way back in? Thanks!
Glad the video was helpful! I have a pretty big float (Seac Sea Mate Inflatabe Gangway) compared to most and I haven't had any trouble going in or out with a float when shore diving. I wouldn't recommend bodyboarding on your float on the way in...though that does sound fun. What I do when I am ready to head in is shorting the dive line by raveling it from the float side enough so that I have about 15-20ft of line left. This way I have more control over the float, am less likely to be bumping into it, and have enough slack to pull it through the surf once I am on shore. Hope this helps, and Dive Safe!
Appreciate the kind words. I actually only leave my Crocs to the shore, which is only left on the shore when I dive. I leave the bag and other not necessary gear in the car. The only time I will bring my bag is when the hike to the dive spot is further away. As of now, there is not spot I have shore dove in SoCal(except Catalina) where I need to do so.
I carry 18pds on my weight belt. (6x 2pds & 2x 3pd weights). Originally I had all 3pd weights but I thought having the distribution of the 2pds would be better across more of the belt.....should have stuck with all 3pd weights. Now I barely have any room on my belt to add gear onto it.
I have the same buoy You should put 2 bunjee ropes in each side for the weapons. Do not get comfortable with the velcro straps vecause they will not last and eventually lose a gun Love the bag ! Question Since I'm considering buying that bag for going spearfishing with my motorcycle, will this bag fold (maybe fold it 3 times so i can make it a small as possible?) so i can take it with me in the sea? I don't want to leave anything on my motorcycle, because will got stolen. Or will i destroy the "hardness" of the bag if i fold it ? 🤔
I usually stick the the handle in front of the back strap so even if the straps loosen it is unlikely for the speargun to fall out. I have had the float for over two years and the straps are still holding. Not as strong as they used to but good enough. Regarding the bag folding: yes, it will fold 3 times (just folded mine) but it is not "compact" when folded. Obviously if you have stuff in it, it will not. I don't think you will destroy the "harnesses" by folding it.
@@divespeareat No i don't want to put gear in it and fold it. I'm talking about folding it empty and put it in the top case of my motorcycle, so there would be nothing out at the open for the thief to steel
@@kouvanos Gotcha. I think you should be good. However will probably be a tight fit. There is the same bag with a smaller front pocket that would be thinner when you fold it. You can give that one a try. amzn.to/45cuMuq
BROOOOOOOOOOOOO THE CROCS. I was just telling my gf the other day "I can't believe I'm about to say this, but I think I'm gonna but a pair of crocs for shore diving." My socks have been getting absolutely ruined. It's a big deal after a dive because I cant just stick my wet ass feet in a pair of vans or something. But this settles it, I'm gonna have to order some goth crocs to flex on the other spearos.
hahah YESSS!!! If you want to get a cheaper pair, Daiso carries similar Crocs for less than $5. The quality is not as good as the real deal but for that price, you can't beat it. Such a simple thing but it really does change the game.
Great point! I will eventually get one but at the moment, but at the moment they are a bit too pricey for my budget right now...at least the ones I want.
I could definitely see the traction and stability benefits of using trail running shoes but I like the Croc-like shoes because they can be washed very easily and are low maintenance. In my opinion, it is worth the drawbacks of not being as efficient as trail running shoes.
Yea that would be a good video. But essentially I just put things in this order after I put the fins in: crocs, gloves & socks, lights, float (if I want it), wetsuit, and snorkel. I wear the weight belt so the bag doesn't wear faster.
This was very helpful since I'm brand new and still trying to piece my kit together.

Do you carry weights in beuchat backpack.? I'm worried that straps will break after a while

Where did you get those crocs? Diveso? Divesew?
You can find them at "Diaso". You can find one near you here: www.daisojapan.com/t-about%20us.aspx

croc isn’t very good for flat rock and Luanda. I bought used up size trail running shoes for 10 bucks, they are wayyyuyy better.

@@divespeareat that they can be stolen all they want yes. However that bag is really drawing attention on shore, do you put in in the brush?
