Wow this was a lot more useful then I expected.
Some of the things I just learned from this vid.
    1. Socks!.. I thought socks were what we all used when we first started to spearfish. My dive socks constantly rip and I think I’ll try using regular socks on my next dive and the best part is.. they’re cheap!
    2. Baby Shampoo.. I usually use toothpaste for my masks but baby shampoo sounds better bc it also works as wetsuit lube and I’d rather bring less things when on a dive trip
    3. Load Assist.. I don’t use a load assist, I usually tie my bands with a load handle. Ryan is saying if you’re able to load your roller without a load assist then your roller is not powerful enough. I might try a load assist next and see the power difference and I also think it would be better bc I hate tying roller bands with the load handle
    4. Neck weight... I never heard of that before and probably won’t use one but it was interesting to learn about.
    5. Dyneema shooting line.. I usually use Mono shooting line and I heard that the pound test does affect accuracy but I’m wondering if there’s a difference in accuracy with mono vs dyneema. I don’t shoot big game (I wish I could tho lol) so I don’t worry about the mono line ripping on the reef. What I REALLY liked in that part of the video tho, is how he doesn’t use line clips bc fish can hear it bangin against the gun! Fish are smart af! And what I really found useful was that quick release knot! There’s times when I have to unhook my shooting line from the clip but that knot he used looked waaaaay more quick and useful!
Anyways. Great video. I watch a lot of vids on peoples dive Gear but this one had a lot of useful tips I never heard of 🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼💯

I used to dive a bunch with my dad and uncle's growing up, tho I wasnt really great at it. I'd shoot fish mostly with 3-prong but had no real hunting tactics. When I started working I'd only dive a few times a year if that. I remember seeing one of your vids thanks to youtubes suggestion and immediately wanted to get back in the water. At first I honestly thought "why are these locals taking this cocky haole to all these killer spots." Then I realized how skilled and passionate you actually are. Your criticism isn't to belittle anyone, it's to help people around you become better and quite honestly I've become a better diver just by subscribing to your channel and watching your videos. I'm grateful for your content and RUclips presence for not only inspiring me to go back to my roots, but also helping me grow in the right direction to bear fruit. "Teach a man to fish and he'll eat for a lifetime." Keep up the good work my friend, you've got my support. If you're ever on Oahu let's dive! 🤙

honestly i have been comparing his style of diving and staying at the bottom to what i see other divers here in barbados doing and realised that his style simply does not work here most fish in these areas are super skittish and no matter how quite you are they almost never come in unless they are of a bigger more confident variety of fish which is scarce as is, even the way they catch octopus over there by simply poking it with the spear head in barbados that octopus would never come out and will actually hide deeper in its whole . To add to that almost noone here dives in full wetsuits most people cant afford it but yet many still do super well, so in conclusion i have determined that where you and how the animals have adapted to being hunted plays a huge role in how you catch them therefore not advise is universal however it still is a very informative video

i use cheap leggings, and a cycling long sleeve vest from the thrift store.
For gloves i use cheap nylon gardening gloves.
For stringer you can use a 10cm nail attached to some cheap line. This doubles up as knife to brain fish
For a shaft, you can take one to a mechanic and he can make/copy an extra one by grinding a steel rod (7mm/150cm)

Great video Ryan, I never saw the neck weight before, but from diving in the Med for years I picked up using ankle weights to keep my fins down while moving on the surface and at the bottom to go in aspetto or aguato mode faster and stealthier. Plus, I know this is a controversial subject, but isn’t the whole purpose of the reel to ditch the dive line and float?

    • @RyanMyersExpeditions
      @RyanMyersExpeditions  4 года назад

I had my shooting line switched to dynema after watching your gear video but had some questions.
    1. How many wraps is your shooting line with this set up? It looks like in the video that it’s one wrap with a loop at the end to attach your reel line to.
    2. I’ve never had a reel and was wondering if your drag is set tightened down or open to free spool?

He has a double wrap and you want to tighten your reel with your finger till it’s just a little bit tight so that if you shoot a big fish it can run but won’t get stuck on the bottom
