I am pumped that you got that gun. I look to you for all things Spearfishing and almost got myself a 120 rob Allen roller but that pathos sniper roller grabbed my attention. so I bought the 115 pathos instead. Will be using it on my Costa Rica spear trip April 2. Would love to see a video of you loading it. Do you just use the load assist or load it the way pathos shows how to load on their RUclips video? Also is there a stronger shaft similar to your rob allen that can be switched out on this gun so they don’t bend so easy? Great to see your amazing content again.
Spear merica cells A Picasso Gold plated shaft. Harden to 53 Rockwell. These are great guns but need tweaks. A double wishbone for the roller band or it will shoot low. Also 14mm small I'd bands

Ya the humpbacks are incredible. I hate when they leave. I’ve only got to see them twice underwater and both times were in this same exact spot. Kinda nuts.
I have a Pathos Roller 110; I love the way it shoots. I will be interested to see where you hook the double warp onto at the front of the gun. I've been using the hooks on the side of the roller, but they are beginning to come loose and the line can get jammed.
Just looked at mine and am thinking that piece where the flopper sits looks like it’s designed to hold a double wrap.
I've got a 110 roller as well, and I'm going to check and see if I may have already bent the shaft... I've been missing A LOT with that gun.
I have a 115cm. It seemed to shoot a little better w/o the kicker at low or mid pre-stretch.
@@isaacyamada8461 I usually put the roller and kicker on the same fin.
@@JJDiving I had the gun when it first came out and spent months fiddling with the settings. I even tried small id bands for the roller and kicker. My conclusion was the kicker band was moving the muzzle just a hair, throwing off my shot. Hence my missing of point blank shots. Imo the most stable setup with decent juice was just the roller. At a minimum you should upgrade the shaft and maybe the trigger if you want to swap muzzles (i did). Idk if they opened up the enclosed track, but the stock 7mm was pretty snug. Till this day, I haven't squandered up the courage to sand it off.

I lived in Captain Cook for a year in 2008 and the vog caused so many sinus issues for me. Had to use an over the counter nettle pot to flush with saltwater just to be able to go freedive. It helped a lot. Moved to Oahu now Kauai and 0 sinus issues since.
Wow interesting ya I suspected the vog didn’t help much but I know some people are more affected than others. Whatever it was hoping I have it sorted now.
@@RyanMyersExpeditions Good to hear, love the vids. Yeah for sure, effects everyone differently. Funny as it seems obvious but I didn't figure it out for a while. Using that nettle pot a few times a week would clear the irritants out and I was good to go after a bit.

Trusted worker at pathos says with a 7,25mm plastic wrench you can widen the track. Allowing it to use the 7,1mm Riffe (travel) Shafts. With these shafts you can get a slip tip.
If you fixed the low trajectory problem with the gun. Or maybe before, i highly recommend you to switch the 16mm bands to 14,5 small ID. I use Sigal Sub extreme (purple)
The 16mm standard bands on full pretension will whip the shaft.
Notice that you can dismantle the roller band in 2 seconds and put it back in. This is nice for small prey, where the kicker band is enough.
With a little work the Pathos gun is really good and the sandvik shafts are pretty durable, I think.
But the tweak with the plastic wrench works 100% allowing you to load 7,1mm shafts
Could you please go into more detail about the 7.25 plastic wrench? Is it a plastic rod you drive into the track?
Thats what Pathos used and asked me to use and what I used. You basically can use any round plasticstick or something with the right diameter and that is soft enough to not scratch and hard enough to widen the track.
Then simply enter the stick/wrench one side and slide it down till the 7,1mm Shaft fits in. I did two turns with the wrench and the shaft fitted perfect, did not have to do it again, even after, years. The gun has definitely enough power to handle that size shafts

@@RyanMyersExpeditions hi boss, yes I put the kicker which I change for a rob allen 16m though, they say it is useless but when am facing a +10kg +20kg friend, am more confident when I got the full power of this baby. It does make a difference for me. The reason you may have shot a bit too high can be the length of the arrow, that doesn't allow to line up properly as per a bigger arrow. Yup. Rob Allen stuff is hard to beat. Super durable. Most of not all of those European guns can’t handle the abuse a rob Allen gun or shaft can take.

Also one of the reasons I shoot the pathos laser and not the sniper is the laser is an open track and you won't as many of the problems if you get a bent shaft as you will with an enclosed track

Head always if can. I don’t like slip tips unless I’m targeting wahoo but Mahi do tend to break off your spear at times.

Ask Petros for a Devotosub shaft. You won’t have any more bends. Those pathos shafts are pretty darn soft.
Hey ryan my buddy was wondering how to setup a dynema shooting line for his gun. Is there a specific way to do it or knot to tie?
Ya there is but I can’t freaking think of what it’s called or how to explain how to tie it!? The one connecting the dyneema to reel line is on my gear bag video but I didn’t put the shaft connection on there. Try your local dive shop they should know. Wish I could help more.

I have that same gun, it’s been good for small and big fish and agree the shafts could be stronger. Can you simply add a Rob Alan shaft or some other stronger shaft to the Pathos? Maybe I should get a reel, looks cool.

Ya a lot of us Freedivers use metric for depth idk why. No real training if I’m not in the water. Mostly just try and dive as much as possible.

This gun is way better then the RA, but not out of the box.
I use it for 5 years now and it's a cannon.
Here is the Problem: Pathos advises you to load the roller band on the first position of 3. Wich is nonsense and not the full band preload. They tell you this cause the wishbone is pulling up the tail of the shaft when the wishbone gets pulled up at the bridge. This is simply cause the plastic parts have a construction tolerance the wishbone just gets pulled up to early. Fix this by adding two wishbones and hooking the longer one in the shark fin. The shorter one gets pulled up earlier at the bridge allowing the second one to leanly free from the shark fin. Or take away some material at the bridge
Coatesman's Spearfishing on RUclips has a great video on why and how to do a uneven double wishbone.
Coatesman responded to my tailwhiping question with that solution ^^ so you got me there. but it did really work, never had to put hands on the muzzle to fix the low trajectory.

I’m headed to Maui in may. Is there anyone there you recommend going with as a total noob? Been practicing breath hold but I’ve never done any diving.
I’d look into who’s teaching freediving over there at the moment. There is actually a spearfishing company or two that does beginner trips. Maui spearfishing academy and top shot spearfishing I believe.

what gun do you think i should start with?? I like the pathos sniper80 or 90, but my dad uses a meandros 75 and i catch a fish nearly every shot with it, it's very comfortable.
Many people don’t recognize the difference a few centimeters make in gun performance. You may find you like the meandros over the sniper because it’s 15 cm shorter. Smaller guns will always be more comfortable to hunt with and will seem to hit more fish because you are only shooting a short distance.
@@RyanMyersExpeditions That's what i've learned from your videos. I live in california and I strictly shore dive. The deepest i've gone is around thirty feet. I use a three prong because I don't own a gun, but I'm saving to get a gun. I've been spearfishing since late August of last year and the only reason I don't deep sea dive is because I'm 13 and my mom is too afraid to let me go farther out lol. Besides the speargun could you give me more advice? I really want to learn how to spearfish well as it is when I am happiest.

im from israel, in the Mediterranean - the fish here are so scarce, the sea is so overfished, it looks nothing like your videos (i'd quit my job and become a fisherman if it were!)
the fish here are so cautious - probably survivers of other fishermen - they are so afraid, they just hear something irregular and they take flight quickly,
now - i can't do ambushes like you - i admit, not even close though i try, but the sea here looks NOTHING like the sea you video.

The 100 cm and above do but smaller than that they sink without shaft.

Sweet!!!! I’ve got no tricks yet I’m running it completely stock right now. I’d be careful what reel you put on it I’m not a super fan of the pathos horizontal reel. Kinda like the new spear pro reel. I immediately put dyneema shooting line on too. Good luck out there with it lots of pathos gun content coming up!

I have a pathos carbon. My first few sessions with it I was missing a lot and didn't kno why. As soon as I threw on a riffe shaft I started hitting more👌🏼
which shaft did you have on before? Did you miss with the 7mm pathos?
@1V2N1V2 I think it was the 7mm, not to sure. It was the shaft the comes with the gun. I was told it could be cus the shaft is to short. The one that comes with that gun hangs over the muzzle like 1-2in and the rifle shaft I have hangs over like 5-6in. Idk why but I hit more with the rifle shaft. Could just be me but it helped me out.

Something small and simple depending on what type of water you are diving in. 90 cm or 100 cm pathos is a great way to start.
