- Spearfishing North Carolina | Hyde Wreck
I've been wanting to dive the Hyde wreck here in North Carolina for a while. It is a very large wreck that is well known by scuba divers. I had yet to see a shark while spearfishing off of North Carolina, and I was confident the Hyde wreck would have at least a couple. I was lucky enough to get a great weather window to make the 20 mile run out of Masonboro Inlet on the 4th of July and decided to make the hour trip to the wreck. I arrived and was greeted by 30+ barracuda with quite a few in the 4ft+ size class. I also was able to dive with a couple sand tiger sharks and another that I failed to identify (Let me know in the comments). After trying to shoot a barracuda and getting too much unwanted attention from the sharks and barracudas I decided to call it because I was completely alone (I know I shouldn't dive alone, but no one would go with). On the way in I trolled a couple planers and hooked what I think was a small spinner shark on a clark's spoon. Because it was the 4th, it was getting more and more crowded and hectic so I called the day early rather than risking it.
I hope this video keeps you entertained. I sure had fun that day.

Really good video. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Pretty awesome drop. Headed out to Oak Island area in late August. Keen to do some spearfishing but I will have to stick to stuff accessible from shore.
Good luck!
How deep is that wreck?
The wreck sits in 80 ft of water, but the top of the wreck is about 40ft deep.
