    Got me a 2004 Lancer ES for $600. 248k miles, no rust on frame, super solid transmission and healthy engine. Still going with regular maintenance. Love this car.

    as a trained mechanic of 20 years. all u need is a registered 3/8th reachet to tighten the drain plug and always put new oil in filter so it's better on the pump. also put a little on filter seal so it slides instead of tearing. last thing just turn filter with hand till tight then 1/4 (quarter) back so the seal isn't crushed. u will never have issues.

      20 years Mechanic? How about removing the cap of the motor oil engine before you loosen the nut and filter, this way oil flows freely. By leaving cap on and draining the oil, he probably left about a quart + of dirty oil in their 😡

    Turn your wheel outward and take off the cover. This should be an easier access to remove the oil filter.

  • @kgpcodes

    Found this was completely accessible without going under the car. Just remove the front right wheel and some bolts on the fenders. We have same car generation Lancer Cedia. Mine is a 2006 Ralliart.

    You left about a quart+ of dirty oil in that car, by not removing the engine oil cap before you remove the drain plug and filter. This way the oil moves freely.
    That is why you had oil blob out of the filter like that. You dirty oil was not drained properly. Just a tip 😉
    Great Video.

    Why are you using a torque wrench to tighten the drain plug. That isn't necessary.

    • @donkeykongchang
      @donkeykongchang  9 лет назад +12

      +David Wong Usually, you can just tighten the drain plug until it's nice and tight which it will be find untill you next oil change. But if I was suppose to fix the car by the book, it tells you to torque the plug to spec.

    Always lower car to sit its ass on wheels like it was supposed to..then fill oil and check..its more level when using proper common sense...also turn on car and let it runs for a few minutes..then check dipstick again and add if needed..when it’s perfect then you bloody go for a drive...

      I could not find my smaller Torque Wretch so I used the bigger one I had sitting in my tool box . If the ft. pound is set correctly on the torque wretch, the amount of force I use on the bigger torque wretch should be the same as the smaller one. The bigger wretch just have more leaverage than the small one.

    2003 Lancer, which filter to use? Are $10 filters that much better than $4 ones? Also, does brand of oil matter? I plan to use 10W-30 (I live in California, so it doesnt get below 0).

    • @donkeykongchang
      @donkeykongchang  7 лет назад +1

      From what I read, the more expense the oil filter then the longer you can hold off until your next oil change. Picking an oil brand is the same as picking an oil filter; it’s just your preference. I usually just buy medium price filter that last me up to 5k miles. I do understand that oil type change depending on the weather but I been using 5w-30 in California too and have not gotten any engine problem.

    • @Duxa_
      @Duxa_ 7 лет назад +1

      Cool thanks. The manual says to use 5W-30 if it gets below 0 and to use 10W-30 if it goes over 100. Which is cali it does a few days a year, but never below 0. So both are probably fine.

    • @donkeykongchang
      @donkeykongchang  5 лет назад

      The Mitsubishi Lancer ES 2003 take oil type 5w-30 or 10w-30. I have been using 5w-30 and had gotten no problem yet. The oil filter is located on the bottom of the vehicle on the outside on the engine unit. The vehicle will takes up to 4 quarts of oil.

    Why sidnt you use that long one to loosen the plug?

    • @donkeykongchang
      @donkeykongchang  8 лет назад +1

      The big long wretch is a torque wretch. Torque wretch should only be use for tightening down a bolt.

  • @izwanhelmy644

    do we have to change new screw nut every time??

    • @donkeykongchang
      @donkeykongchang  7 лет назад

      Izwan Helmy I usually keep the old bolt screw and just change the rubber/plastic washer. The washer will keep the oil from leaking out. I recommend changing the bolt screw if it had been round off and it is difficult to take off with a wrench.

    Brother u don’t need to tighten the drain plug 29 foot pounds jesus

    • @donkeykongchang
      @donkeykongchang  4 года назад +1

      I make my repair video by following the Factory Shop Manual. There is a torque spec for the drain plug and i just wanted to show it on the video. Normally i just tighten the drain plug until it is nice and snug.
