Well said! I agree that as long as you have a goal you are chasing, whether it is provided by the modpack itself or by yourself, then you will probably stay motivated. I think it is also important to identify friction points that come up and try deal with them as soon as possible. They are usually pretty subtle, but can pile up, and before you know it... you don't want to play the world anymore even if you still have a goal in mind.

Your world at this point is timeless. I might have said this before but playing with friends may also keep you motivated to play. Don't choose distracting people though. I went from building a new factory in Omnifactory to creating a giant troll face and watching youtube after getting distracted.
I play minecraft to fight off dementia. I suffered from lead poisoning for most of my life before it was discovered. Every one just assumes that you haven't been exposed. I also soldered as part of my work, which is why I even checked about it. My worry is that the damage done to my brain might accelerate mental decline, which I was already beginning to notice because of the lead and age. It's also prevalent in my family. I tend to play the larger mod packs to constantly push my brain and hopefully stave off decline not related to the damage the lead did. I don't know if I can ever finish a large pack, but it shows me when my mental state is on an up or down. I take meds to purge it from my system now, and I'm slowly getting better overall, but the worry keeps me playing, despite being out of the target audience. I appreciate that you posted this. I have more hope of finishing a pack now. Also, you've got a new subscriber. I'll check out your work. Thanks!
Im genuinely impressed at the time, effort and courage it takes to not only just start a giant modpack, but record yourself and set challenges for yourself. To be able to do all that AND still edit videos and make them high quality defines you in a light that i would see as no less than amazing. Your first world is still far better than mine whenever I play I promise myself that I will build a base, but it always ends the same purely "temporary" setups as far as the eye can see
I've played MC since alpha web browser, and still build little square box houses...haha Not being artistic is rough in games like this when others always do such amazing things!
Lots and lots of trial and error. I always say feel free to copy any of the designs of building ideas in any of my videos. I always love seeing how people adapt the ideas. :D
@bartek Hah! When me and my friends play factorio, I always bring up the old adage: "There's nothing as permanent as a temporary solution." That's one that me and my friends always find relevant to automation games lol
@@Threefold. For me the answer was to stop trying to, I simply enjoy the automation part and no the building part so I just automate underground and build above ground
Grian has some good videos for aesthetics in minecraft. Could be work checking him out. Might also be better to build your base in modules. For me knowing how much space you will need for the rest of the modpack, making it look good, and building it all is overwhelming. Doing a bit at a time could be less overwhelming. Might also be worthwhile to admit when a base isn't working out in a world, starting a new one somewhere else, and them moving all your stuff there.
I always waste weeks of my life creating modpacks and getting them to work nice and smooth and then, when I'm actually playing them, I usually just walk around, get killed by something, and don't play them ever again. This video was super helpful, so, Thanks!
Maybe it's just me, but I loved your vanilla collection project base the most. The block palette was the most cut back and subdued, leading to great comfy scenes, the buildings were seperate but connected in with each other, and because of the limitations of no mods I saw you using blocks in more creative ways like trapdoors as walls, the azalea bushes as flooring with the moss and stuff. As always kep up the great work Three!

I've always been more of a vanilla guy so seeing you go through all your modded bases was a really cool thing to see, and honestly I do think a lot of what you talked about in the video definitely applies to vanilla in a lot of ways. An absolute amazing video, You mentioned in the video that at various points there is a step up in quality of video production. In my opinion you can notice in every episode, each episode gets better and better than the last. In terms of editing, building, gameplay in general and quite frankly quality. All your episodes are genuinly a pleasure for me to watch. Even though Inferno isnt my type of pack, I still thoroughly enjoyed watching, I originally came for the minecraft, I am staying for you. Also I too can't wait for the next Journey!
The inferno pack was an amazing pack with the colours and your style of building always looks so good, you always seem to know what your gonna do next to progress and it seems so effortless. I tend to build then rebuild to make things work better while trying to automate as much as I can as I go forward. you get 100/10 in my opinion!
Oh there are plenty of times and many hours of building and creative testing before the video, some of which I share. Most of it though, ends up deleted. Don't be discouraged after seeing how easy it seems on video. I always struggle with trying to come up with ideas, it's not an easy thing to do! :D
I started watching you recently after finding your Divine Journey2 playthrough, which I was looking for as my laptop stopped letting me play modded minecraft when I was in the middle of the pack. The TCP base is by far your best work aesthetically, and seeing you fit some creative vanilla farms into those spaces was really fun. It's a shame it couldn't be continued, because you are a much better builder than you give yourself credit for. Just no more limestone please

Best way I have found to complete a mod pack, is to do a play through using cheats first, and use that play through to learn what is important to prioritize in the mod pack. Then do a normal play through.
I started watching with you with GTNH and it's really cool seeing how your building style has changed over time. I personally love your Collection Series "base" the best, everything just looks amazing in that world. Looking forward to your next series.
Honestly your reason for youtube playing, that is, just playing the games, makes it really clear that you're exactly the channel I wanna watch. Like, there's a real feeling of like "You're watching your friend play this game" to it, it's very cozy, in a way, haha. It's earnest gameplay of someone who's having a great time most of the time, and it's fun to sorta share the ups and downs and get to know your bases as you build them. Like, when I rewatch your series, it's always a lot of fun knowing what the end result is and re-seeing how you get there with that finished image in mind. In some, like early Divine Journey, it can really throw you for a loop, haha.
I personally have recently moved from Vanilla to modded. Thanks to one of my friends attempting to put together their own "from-scratch" pack. I have always had an inkling for trying it out, but had no real reason to push through, until I came across a series put together by another channel. Then through them I had found you. You were the first time I had ever heard about GT:NH, and I was psyched about trying it out... Until I saw what Greg really did. So I decided to look at the first real pack that I wanted to experience, which is suggested below. All I can say is, thank you for pushing the limits of my comfort to a point that has allowed me to truly motivate myself to experience Modded Minecraft. While you may not be the only one influencing me to play, you are definitely the most collected and calm personality that I have started keeping an eye on. Keep on playing, but please take breaks when you need them. Notch knows that you'll need it the next time you take on a huge pack. I can't wait to see what you've got going on next! I have a suggestion for a modpack that I have personally found interesting because it mixes two of my favorite games. 1.12.2's "Feed the Factory" by Vnator (or Vinator, can't remember the proper spelling). It's a Factorio styled pack, mixed for Minecraft. You've got custom recipes, "research packs" and all sorts of high-power automation. The obvious goal is to get the Quantum Research and unlock the things that would allow to basically generate functionally-infinite materials and components. But my personal goal for it, is to be able to request literally anything and make an infinite amount of any research I need. I know that's a rather large goal, but it is a great "completion" goal that works with my mind.
Really enjoyed your look back at previous series. I found you through looking for help with DJ2, my partner and myself took on the challenge, and even with two of us it may not get finished, although I do really enjoy it! We took a break from DJ2 and basically did play along with you as you went through Inferno, I let my partner deal with Minecolonies, he seemed to enjoy it- I did not. I was quite happy base building and breeding those bees, my bee corridor took direct inspiration from yours. Excited to see where you go next! Love your content.

He likes the tech and exploration stuff and I like the building/ magic mods more generally although I'm partial to some good storage systems! I really like your videos and have started watching them from the middle of your atm7 playthrough! Although I still haven't understood the concept of base building. Your builds are extremely beautiful and really make me want to continue playing modded minecraft, but I still haven't worked out the basic stuff. How do you do the height variation? How do you work out a good color palette out of hundreds of different blocks that come from different mods? How do you separate the rooms so everything doesn't get clumped up in one space? How do you make every hallway so exiting instead of being extremely linear? And do you like to work with odd or even symmetry lines? I really hope you answer some of these questions and even if you don't I'm really exited for the next mod you're going to take on! Good luck with whatever you're going to take on, as I will always tune in to your videos! Edit: I liked the most your Divine Journey 2 base as it was so HUGE!
Look, I'm not super good but I do have some advice. 1. test in a creative world: look at some of the options you have and look at what you can do. 2. add depth: archways, windowsills, and pillars can add lots of depth to your builds. 3. stick with a theme: try to stay with a theme per area, this can help narrow down ideas that might not fit. 4. look for inspiration: look at art, games, buildings, and other media. 5. take your time: don't rush yourself you've got time.
Honestly you're a huge inspiration for me going out of my comfort zone in modpacks nowadays, I hope these tips can help me out with Stoneblock 3 that I'm playing currently. I'd definitely say your Divine Journey 2 base is my favorite one, something about the color palette I love.
Just looking at the difference between your base in season 1 of GT:NH and the current one, wow I love the new base. At one point i remember someone saying that when you finish, your base will become an iconic GT:NH megabase and its so true.
I've just foundyour channel through this video, and I wish I'd found it sooner. All of my modded bases pale in comparison of size, beauty, and progress to the ones you've shown here. In recent months, I've started to get bored of modpacks very quickly, but seeing these bases has given me inspiration. I tend to speed through the questbook, forgetting to enjoy myself along the way. I end up with a base that consists of a few machines running out of power in a cave, and I give up when I realize I should have been making a proper base. I'm in the middle of a FTB Stoneblock 3 playthough right now, and I think I'll apply some of your advice to my base. Thank you!
One of the ways I help myself finish things is to find a friend that will sit down with me and do something at the same time, whether its the same thing, something similar, or completely different, just having someone you can chat with about progress or frustrations right from the beginning is super useful. The companionship is also nice!
For me personally, once I achieve infinite power, resources, and full automation I feel like I completed the modpack. Some packs have an end goal like ATM with the ATM trophy and once I get those I consider it completed. Though I did not get the ATM7TTS trophy before moving on which is always on my mind lol.
Okay your castle is really cool. I keep falling into the stereotype of sanctioned areas independent of each other like labeled drawers, and the idea of making a castle a high tech control center with specialized architecture like in a normal castle but for the specialized tech is a rad concept. I am thinking a modern parody of old and well functioning systems breathing an interesting take on things. Makes me wonder what a trade route would look like with mining turtles, or other weird stuff that throws out maximum efficiency by having it adhere to a theme, rather than just the building itself being themed.
you made a one-off comment at 16:34 about how base design and planning could easily be its own video; i would absolutely love if you wound up making it! i personally find that planning my modded bases is one of my biggest struggles that prevents me from settling into a pack and would really appreciate hearing your thoughts. cheers

Definitely giving motivation again. I've always designated DDSS as my "long-term" pack. Due to life, it's been put on hold, but this video definitely reinforces my desire to play it. Hey man, I just wanted to say that you are a huge inspiration to me, I dont know how do you have the motivation to keep doing these sick videos but keep kicking, you are doing a great job!
I'm working on a system that is a little complicated but it has solved my motivational problems profoundly. It is a way to establish self-limiting rules and progression guides that you can follow to keep the game fun at all stages. It is still a work in progress but I am proud to say that I have recorded my vanilla Minecraft v1.1 progressive long-play game based on my system in over 400 episodes! It is designed to take on modded Minecraft as well but I figured it was a good idea to work out the rules and the pace based on an old Vanilla game first. This proves to myself that this system can keep me engaged indefinitely. It also does come with an end goal which due to some system redesign restarts I have not reached yet (the other reason why this is an over 400 episode series no doubt).
Thank you for choosing to make this video, and yes it did help me! It's a nice complement for modded minecraft admist similar videos on vanilla. I have always struggled with completing things, and had only completed 1 series across 2 channels in all this time I have been making RUclips videos. I agree that sharing your experience (in my and your case through videos) does help; it makes the whole experience so much richer, and you have that push to complete a whole series. Setting goals, mixing up the technical and creative side of the game, and taking breaks / mixing with other hobbies seems to be interesting tactics; I'll try those too! EDIT: And yes, thank you for adknowledging we all have to start somewhere. The first videos of my completed series are... oh man. They're not even the first videos I made! Hope to learn as I produce more videos.
I've been playing modpakcs since Tekkit back in the day, only packs I've "finished" are Material Energy (either 1 or 2) and Agrarian Skies, got fairly close to finishing Forever Stranded but not quite. I usually play for a week or so and even if I enjoy the pack a lot, I quickly get tired of the grind, oh I need more X ore for the 100th time or something, spend the next 2 hours mining and looking for it. It's either that or extremely slow automation which happens in some Skyblock packs
Thanks for all the tips and content. What works best for me out of all you mentioned is making backups to revisit my bases later (actually just screenshots of my progression), and sharing my achievements/builds with others on discord etc. Looking forward to your next series!

Ive said before and ill say again, you have become one of if not my favorite minecraft player. Hell yer the only minecraft youtuber i still watch. And have given me motivation to play minecraft again, so from one old player to another, thank you. You are a great guy
One thing i find really helps is sometimes its okay to cheat within reason. Like when I get to a point where i can reasonably say i have enough building materials I'll pop into creative to build something because i suck with roofs in survival. But its important to not go overboard because if you do too much you don't feel like you esrned it. Another thing is ill just use keep Inventory/ teleport to get my stuff back. I don't see any point in punishing myself with chore. Another thing is actually committing to making a setup with tools you have. I see so many people get bogged down doing stuff manually waiting for the most efficient machines to unlock. If you actually just commit to using the mods you currently have unlocked to make the best stuff you can i find that way more fun and its usually quicker in the long run. Or it feels quicker because the fun part of modded Minecraft is setting up anf building systems

For me my favorite one of your base is definitely still DJ2. Because it reminds me of the fun time following through the series from start to end. Modded minecraft is really an awesome game. I think its also one of the few games that I would say its equally fun to watch someone else play as it is to play it ourselves. Sometimes it's even more fun to watch a series simply because some of us really dont have the time to invest on a modpack. Looking forward to more and better series in the future. Threefold asking about Modded, Vanilla, Building playthrough... I want all of them... Its also kind of hilarious that i'm usually one of the first digit viewers on each uploads ever since DJ2. Your content is THAT good.
The first big modpack i was getting into the endgame was ATM. I hopped on everyday after work and spent my time exlporing new mods and having fun to figure out how to automate and how difrrent mods work. I even was getting somewhat close to the atm star, until the server I played on resetted the world. It hapend out of nowhere and my motivation sunk in lightnig speed. The promise of the owner to provide us with the world map never got fulfilled so I couldnt even finish what i've begun offline. I just cant get the same amount of motivaton on offline servers, neither do I want to play on servers anymore after learning how much restriction there exists between diffrent servers.
i started watching you back in DJ2. Seeing all of your bases from the packs youve played id say enigmatica 2 and the collection project were my favorite bases. Ive gone back and watched interactions, just not enigmatica 2 yet. Youve grown alot in your editing, building, and play style. Even videos like this are really charming and nice. Cant wait for the new series and keep doing what you love Three! P.S. I loved the gtnh series as i played it years ago when it first came out. You and Lash made the series so enjoyable. For me, i found that playing with friends helps to keep me engaged, I know that isn't an option for everyone, so if it isn't, first thing u do is turn cheats OFF when u make the world, don't rush through it and if u feel a bit burnt out, take a break... the world/server isn't going anywhere (server might get shutdown but u could prolly get the world file). Just have fun with it, don't always focus on efficiency, and if you are playing a tech mod pack, don't always do tech stuff, take a break and go build something.
Never heard of you before this video. Saw an Etho comment and really enjoyed the format and how informative but relaxed it is. I have strayed away from the create mod as much as I could until stoneblock 3, and im now going to go back and watch your create above and beyond playthrough! thanks!

Although I feel it's a challenge to integrate it into some of the other more classic tech and magic mods that have been around a while. If you are able to pull that off though, it's super rewarding. I am sure your channel will blossom the more modpacks you do, I love your style of edditing your footage whilst leaving the raw footage on another channel for those interested. Livestreams are a blast as well to watch. The way you explain certain modpacks and on how they work were also easy to follow and led me to play inferno myself too! It really is a blast playing through the pack, I am aiming to get the minecolony to really be self sufficient and fully upgraded to everything tier 5. My favourite base is ATM 7: All the sky, as for myself that is the first time i came across your channel. The flow of the base going from section to section is awesome and the elevator just takes it all the way. For aesthetics definitely the castle from Enigmatica 2 as its the coolest, you truly see the amount of hours and dedication involved to make it look the way it does. It crazy! It amazing! ps. You are now my most preferred Minecraft channel to watch, and also I've watched so many other Minecraft Influencer channels going from Mindcrack & Hermitcraft group to Captain Sparkles etc. The editing and the flow you bring to your videos bring a higher standard than videos they produce. I'm playing DJ2 right now and it's the first time I'm actually building stuff instead of making a lawn base, I'm not very creative so I copied your limestone, basalt base design and modified it abit by adding white blocks, but I really underestimated how much more motivated I am when my base isn't an eyesore to look at Also after hearing how proud/passionate you are of the collection project I will absolutely give it a watch
The Vanilla building is so cool! I've always thought about building my base in the vision of various mods being tied to certain buildings in a village, but I could never justify the logistics of it all. It just sounds like a nightmare. 😭
I binge watched some of these worlds over the course of a few weeks; the thing that hooked me was the rhythmic block placing during narratory intermissions and the b-rolls :)
Nice Video. I've always asked the question, "How do you play modded minecraft" especially without quests. I always found myself lost on how to start. I took a long break from minecraft literally from 1.12.2 and started back in 1.20.2. I have to re-learn all the new mod packs and how they function. I could never find myself progressing past the early stages because of building. Skyblock has always been my favorite type of modpack due to the fact it has less lag vs generating a whole world. I'm a huge fan of Project Ozone 3 and it sucked that a 4th iteration wasn't created. Now I heard there is a new 1.18 Project No Zone.

My way of playing modpacks is like this: -Start a world, get familiar with some of the mods (or use the mods you know from previous playthroughs) -Build some efficient but kinda ugly farms (everything must be efficient and ugly) -make a whole mess of the base, because there's cables everywhere -build a solid storage system -get OP armor and stuff, basically become a god (you have all the items, you're basically invincible) -get bored, because you basically entered creative mode. -start a new modpack, get further, because you get better and faster at playing modded minecraft with each playthrough -get hooked because of some mods (mainly create, thermal expansion combined with extra utilities 2, EnderIO, EvilCraft, Tinker's Construct (but don't use it, just build a smeltery and then use it like 5 times and don't get yourself any armor or tools, even tho you have hundreds of cobalt and ardite). -get annoyed by some mods (that mod when you have to eat different foods) -enter peaceful mode (no monsters, no hunger, no distractions) -repeat previous steps -get bored -start a new modpack or continue in old one (or both) -relapse I'm getting better and better at modded Minecraft, but I'm getting more and more impatient for building. I was never a builder. Once I tried to build something massive in Project Ozone 3, it seemed a bit too ugly, so i quit the modpack. When I don't build in modpacks, I don't get burnt out so easily, because I think that the machines are much more fun than building. EDIT: You can call all my bases lawn bases. I just want to play with the mods and not get distracted by aesthetics.

I foud your Channel back when you just started E2E and keept up with your videos ever since. You really inspired me especially with your Divine Journey 2 Playthrough. I even played the same Pack and used an almost identical Block Pallet and for that reason alone i must say DJ2 is my favourite Base so far. The walk down memory lane was really awesome and i am trully excited for your next series :)
That's a really great video because i do struggle with that and just saw one year old but still great. Modpacks look interesting so maybe gonna end up looking into that, keep the great work up or rather i hope you kept it up
I found you through Interactions and I think the aspect you've improved most in since then is the videomaking itself. At that point your videos were already way past the beginnings in E2:E, but they feel somewhat dry compared to nowadays. I find it impressive how much effort you put into making the videos enjoyable beyond the raw joy of watching someone complete a pack that I wouldn't have the motivation to finish (looking at you Divine Journey 2).
I liked this video a lot. I'm glad to see that it is possible, and this may sound weird, to grow and actually get better at the things you want to get better at in minecraft. I struggle a lot combining the things that I don't like with what I do like but am bad at, and it kinda drags the whole experience of modded mincreaft down for me. I tend to tapper out in enthusiasm around the point where I have a lot of resources automated, but have to fix things constantly because I'm either creating too much of something I don't really need, or not enough of something I do. Everything gets messy, or its just plopped out in the open and aesthetically unpleasant. So long as you don't play another expert pack, I'll definitely be trying harder to play along (though I don't have as much time to put into this game as you). If you do, well, I'll still be happy to tune in and watch!
Personally, I was taking a break from minecraft RUclips during your collection series. But some of the episodes I watched were really nice. I liked watching you step out of your comfort zone and try and build a lot more.
This indeed helped me a lot I've never finished a mod pack I played and I indeed still put a lot of hour into them but never had the will to finish them

The first (and only (yet)) modpack I ever finished was Create above and beyond it was pretty fun, I never had played with create before that and learned a lot. I would change a lot of things if I ever played it again but the end felt kinda empty idk maybe it wasn't finished yet or something. Some months ago I started divine journey 2 with the intention to complete it (I know a big step up) and I kinda got bored my error was to don't automate things the moment I could. haven't played for 2 months now and the last time I played it was only to passively automate elevatium. I was starting ch.13. It is really inspiring to see you play and invest this much time and effort in modpacks. Keep up the good work! My favorite base was the second enigmatica 2 base the big castle looks really really good
I've probably played and abandoned at least 40 modpacks in my time playing Minecraft. Both premade and custom. I have only ever beaten one modpack which was Stoneblock 2. So I guess you could say I struggle a little lmao. However, I have noticed that the more I play modded the farther I actually make it through modpacks. Years ago I would barely make it past basic ore doubling but now I would actually delve into mods quite a bit more. An example would be FTB Oceanblock where I'm actually somewhat close to entering endgame. When it comes to motivation I have found that watching people on RUclips do playthroughs of modded really helps keep me motivated. Even if it's of modpacks that I've never played and don't consider ever trying out. Even watching this video makes me want to boot up a modpack and start playing. Stems off of Threefold mentioning that you should consider recording your creations and sharing them with people.

Well said! I agree that as long as you have a goal you are chasing, whether it is provided by the modpack itself or by yourself, then you will probably stay motivated. I think it is also important to identify friction points that come up and try deal with them as soon as possible. They are usually pretty subtle, but can pile up, and before you know it... you don't want to play the world anymore even if you still have a goal in mind.

I play minecraft to fight off dementia.
I suffered from lead poisoning for most of my life before it was discovered. Every one just assumes that you haven't been exposed. I also soldered as part of my work, which is why I even checked about it.
My worry is that the damage done to my brain might accelerate mental decline, which I was already beginning to notice because of the lead and age. It's also prevalent in my family.
I tend to play the larger mod packs to constantly push my brain and hopefully stave off decline not related to the damage the lead did.
I don't know if I can ever finish a large pack, but it shows me when my mental state is on an up or down. I take meds to purge it from my system now, and I'm slowly getting better overall, but the worry keeps me playing, despite being out of the target audience.
I appreciate that you posted this. I have more hope of finishing a pack now. Also, you've got a new subscriber. I'll check out your work.

Your first world is still far better than mine whenever I play I promise myself that I will build a base, but it always ends the same purely "temporary" setups as far as the eye can see

@@Threefold. For me the answer was to stop trying to, I simply enjoy the automation part and no the building part so I just automate underground and build above ground
Grian has some good videos for aesthetics in minecraft. Could be work checking him out. Might also be better to build your base in modules. For me knowing how much space you will need for the rest of the modpack, making it look good, and building it all is overwhelming. Doing a bit at a time could be less overwhelming. Might also be worthwhile to admit when a base isn't working out in a world, starting a new one somewhere else, and them moving all your stuff there.
I always waste weeks of my life creating modpacks and getting them to work nice and smooth and then, when I'm actually playing them, I usually just walk around, get killed by something, and don't play them ever again. This video was super helpful, so, Thanks!
Maybe it's just me, but I loved your vanilla collection project base the most. The block palette was the most cut back and subdued, leading to great comfy scenes, the buildings were seperate but connected in with each other, and because of the limitations of no mods I saw you using blocks in more creative ways like trapdoors as walls, the azalea bushes as flooring with the moss and stuff. As always kep up the great work Three!

I've always been more of a vanilla guy so seeing you go through all your modded bases was a really cool thing to see, and honestly I do think a lot of what you talked about in the video definitely applies to vanilla in a lot of ways. In terms of editing, building, gameplay in general and quite frankly quality. All your episodes are genuinly a pleasure for me to watch. Even though Inferno isnt my type of pack, I still thoroughly enjoyed watching, I originally came for the minecraft, I am staying for you.

The inferno pack was an amazing pack with the colours and your style of building always looks so good, you always seem to know what your gonna do next to progress and it seems so effortless. I tend to build then rebuild to make things work better while trying to automate as much as I can as I go forward. you get 100/10 in my opinion!
Oh there are plenty of times and many hours of building and creative testing before the video, some of which I share. Most of it though, ends up deleted. Don't be discouraged after seeing how easy it seems on video. I always struggle with trying to come up with ideas, it's not an easy thing to do! :D

The TCP base is by far your best work aesthetically, and seeing you fit some creative vanilla farms into those spaces was really fun. It's a shame it couldn't be continued, because you are a much better builder than you give yourself credit for.

Best way I have found to complete a mod pack, is to do a play through using cheats first, and use that play through to learn what is important to prioritize in the mod pack. Then do a normal play through.
This method actually sounds really underrated. Especially with something like gregtech, where it's very unforgiving.
I started watching with you with GTNH and it's really cool seeing how your building style has changed over time. I personally love your Collection Series "base" the best, everything just looks amazing in that world. Looking forward to your next series.
Honestly your reason for youtube playing, that is, just playing the games, makes it really clear that you're exactly the channel I wanna watch. Like, there's a real feeling of like "You're watching your friend play this game" to it, it's very cozy, in a way, haha. It's earnest gameplay of someone who's having a great time most of the time, and it's fun to sorta share the ups and downs and get to know your bases as you build them. Like, when I rewatch your series, it's always a lot of fun knowing what the end result is and re-seeing how you get there with that finished image in mind. In some, like early Divine Journey, it can really throw you for a loop, haha.
I personally have recently moved from Vanilla to modded. Thanks to one of my friends attempting to put together their own "from-scratch" pack. I have always had an inkling for trying it out, but had no real reason to push through, until I came across a series put together by another channel. Then through them I had found you. You were the first time I had ever heard about GT:NH, and I was psyched about trying it out... Until I saw what Greg really did. So I decided to look at the first real pack that I wanted to experience, which is suggested below. All I can say is, thank you for pushing the limits of my comfort to a point that has allowed me to truly motivate myself to experience Modded Minecraft. While you may not be the only one influencing me to play, you are definitely the most collected and calm personality that I have started keeping an eye on.
Keep on playing, but please take breaks when you need them. Notch knows that you'll need it the next time you take on a huge pack. I can't wait to see what you've got going on next!
I have a suggestion for a modpack that I have personally found interesting because it mixes two of my favorite games. 1.12.2's "Feed the Factory" by Vnator (or Vinator, can't remember the proper spelling). It's a Factorio styled pack, mixed for Minecraft. You've got custom recipes, "research packs" and all sorts of high-power automation. The obvious goal is to get the Quantum Research and unlock the things that would allow to basically generate functionally-infinite materials and components. But my personal goal for it, is to be able to request literally anything and make an infinite amount of any research I need. I know that's a rather large goal, but it is a great "completion" goal that works with my mind.
Really enjoyed your look back at previous series. I found you through looking for help with DJ2, my partner and myself took on the challenge, and even with two of us it may not get finished, although I do really enjoy it! We took a break from DJ2 and basically did play along with you as you went through Inferno, I let my partner deal with Minecolonies, he seemed to enjoy it- I did not. I was quite happy base building and breeding those bees, my bee corridor took direct inspiration from yours. Excited to see where you go next! Love your content.

He likes the tech and exploration stuff and I like the building/ magic mods more generally although I'm partial to some good storage systems! I really like your videos and have started watching them from the middle of your atm7 playthrough! Although I still haven't understood the concept of base building. Your builds are extremely beautiful and really make me want to continue playing modded minecraft, but I still haven't worked out the basic stuff. How do you do the height variation? How do you work out a good color palette out of hundreds of different blocks that come from different mods? How do you separate the rooms so everything doesn't get clumped up in one space? How do you make every hallway so exiting instead of being extremely linear? And do you like to work with odd or even symmetry lines? I really hope you answer some of these questions and even if you don't I'm really exited for the next mod you're going to take on! Good luck with whatever you're going to take on, as I will always tune in to your videos! Edit: I liked the most your Divine Journey 2 base as it was so HUGE!
Look, I'm not super good but I do have some advice.
1. test in a creative world: look at some of the options you have and look at what you can do.
2. add depth: archways, windowsills, and pillars can add lots of depth to your builds.
3. stick with a theme: try to stay with a theme per area, this can help narrow down ideas that might not fit.
4. look for inspiration: look at art, games, buildings, and other media.
5. take your time: don't rush yourself you've got time.
This is a huge question. Hopefully one day I will be able to consolidate my thoughts on the building process itself in more detail. :)
Honestly you're a huge inspiration for me going out of my comfort zone in modpacks nowadays, I hope these tips can help me out with Stoneblock 3 that I'm playing currently.
I'd definitely say your Divine Journey 2 base is my favorite one, something about the color palette I love.
Just looking at the difference between your base in season 1 of GT:NH and the current one, wow I love the new base. At one point i remember someone saying that when you finish, your base will become an iconic GT:NH megabase and its so true.

I've just foundyour channel through this video, and I wish I'd found it sooner. All of my modded bases pale in comparison of size, beauty, and progress to the ones you've shown here. In recent months, I've started to get bored of modpacks very quickly, but seeing these bases has given me inspiration. I tend to speed through the questbook, forgetting to enjoy myself along the way. I end up with a base that consists of a few machines running out of power in a cave, and I give up when I realize I should have been making a proper base. I'm in the middle of a FTB Stoneblock 3 playthough right now, and I think I'll apply some of your advice to my base. Thank you!
One of the ways I help myself finish things is to find a friend that will sit down with me and do something at the same time, whether its the same thing, something similar, or completely different, just having someone you can chat with about progress or frustrations right from the beginning is super useful. The companionship is also nice!
For me personally, once I achieve infinite power, resources, and full automation I feel like I completed the modpack. Some packs have an end goal like ATM with the ATM trophy and once I get those I consider it completed. Though I did not get the ATM7TTS trophy before moving on which is always on my mind lol.
Okay your castle is really cool. I keep falling into the stereotype of sanctioned areas independent of each other like labeled drawers, and the idea of making a castle a high tech control center with specialized architecture like in a normal castle but for the specialized tech is a rad concept. I am thinking a modern parody of old and well functioning systems breathing an interesting take on things. Makes me wonder what a trade route would look like with mining turtles, or other weird stuff that throws out maximum efficiency by having it adhere to a theme, rather than just the building itself being themed.
you made a one-off comment at 16:34 about how base design and planning could easily be its own video; i would absolutely love if you wound up making it! i personally find that planning my modded bases is one of my biggest struggles that prevents me from settling into a pack and would really appreciate hearing your thoughts. cheers

Would love to see that video on base building and planning, as I feel like that’s my biggest issue. I’m TERRIBLE at building, but at the same time I really want an awesome looking base to spend my time in, so I end up losing all motivation.
Definitely giving motivation again. I've always designated DDSS as my "long-term" pack. Due to life, it's been put on hold, but this video definitely reinforces my desire to play it. It's my first real attempt at completing a modpack and actually trying to build, not just have a flat surface.

Hey man, I just wanted to say that you are a huge inspiration to me, I dont know how do you have the motivation to keep doing these sick videos but keep kicking, you are doing a great job!
I'm working on a system that is a little complicated but it has solved my motivational problems profoundly. It is a way to establish self-limiting rules and progression guides that you can follow to keep the game fun at all stages. It is still a work in progress but I am proud to say that I have recorded my vanilla Minecraft v1.1 progressive long-play game based on my system in over 400 episodes! It is designed to take on modded Minecraft as well but I figured it was a good idea to work out the rules and the pace based on an old Vanilla game first. This proves to myself that this system can keep me engaged indefinitely. It also does come with an end goal which due to some system redesign restarts I have not reached yet (the other reason why this is an over 400 episode series no doubt).
I’ve only been here for the last 2 modpacks, but damn… I want to go back and watch them all!❤

I agree that sharing your experience (in my and your case through videos) does help; it makes the whole experience so much richer, and you have that push to complete a whole series. Setting goals, mixing up the technical and creative side of the game, and taking breaks / mixing with other hobbies seems to be interesting tactics; I'll try those too!
EDIT: And yes, thank you for adknowledging we all have to start somewhere. The first videos of my completed series are... oh man. They're not even the first videos I made! Hope to learn as I produce more videos.
I've been playing modpakcs since Tekkit back in the day, only packs I've "finished" are Material Energy (either 1 or 2) and Agrarian Skies, got fairly close to finishing Forever Stranded but not quite.
I usually play for a week or so and even if I enjoy the pack a lot, I quickly get tired of the grind, oh I need more X ore for the 100th time or something, spend the next 2 hours mining and looking for it. It's either that or extremely slow automation which happens in some Skyblock packs

One thing i find really helps is sometimes its okay to cheat within reason. Like when I get to a point where i can reasonably say i have enough building materials I'll pop into creative to build something because i suck with roofs in survival. But its important to not go overboard because if you do too much you don't feel like you esrned it. Another thing is ill just use keep Inventory/ teleport to get my stuff back. I don't see any point in punishing myself with chore.
Another thing is actually committing to making a setup with tools you have. I see so many people get bogged down doing stuff manually waiting for the most efficient machines to unlock. If you actually just commit to using the mods you currently have unlocked to make the best stuff you can i find that way more fun and its usually quicker in the long run. Or it feels quicker because the fun part of modded Minecraft is setting up anf building systems

For me my favorite one of your base is definitely still DJ2. Because it reminds me of the fun time following through the series from start to end. Modded minecraft is really an awesome game. I think its also one of the few games that I would say its equally fun to watch someone else play as it is to play it ourselves. Sometimes it's even more fun to watch a series simply because some of us really dont have the time to invest on a modpack. Looking forward to more and better series in the future. The first big modpack i was getting into the endgame was ATM. I hopped on everyday after work and spent my time exlporing new mods and having fun to figure out how to automate and how difrrent mods work. I even was getting somewhat close to the atm star, until the server I played on resetted the world. It hapend out of nowhere and my motivation sunk in lightnig speed. The promise of the owner to provide us with the world map never got fulfilled so I couldnt even finish what i've begun offline.
I just cant get the same amount of motivaton on offline servers, neither do I want to play on servers anymore after learning how much restriction there exists between diffrent servers.

For me, i found that playing with friends helps to keep me engaged, I know that isn't an option for everyone, so if it isn't, first thing u do is turn cheats OFF when u make the world, don't rush through it and if u feel a bit burnt out, take a break... the world/server isn't going anywhere (server might get shutdown but u could prolly get the world file). Just have fun with it, don't always focus on efficiency, and if you are playing a tech mod pack, don't always do tech stuff, take a break and go build something.
Never heard of you before this video. Saw an Etho comment and really enjoyed the format and how informative but relaxed it is. I have strayed away from the create mod as much as I could until stoneblock 3, and im now going to go back and watch your create above and beyond playthrough! thanks!
Thanks for taking the time to check out the video! The Create mod is awesome, so much fun to play with. Although I feel it's a challenge to integrate it into some of the other more classic tech and magic mods that have been around a while. If you are able to pull that off though, it's super rewarding. There are infinite possibilities :D
Just found your channel while getting back into Modded Minecraft after not playing for half a decade. If you're still reading comments on this video I'd love for you to do a video on your approach to base design and how to plan ahead/be efficient with time. I definitely struggle with decision overload so it'd really help.

I am sure your channel will blossom the more modpacks you do, I love your style of edditing your footage whilst leaving the raw footage on another channel for those interested. Livestreams are a blast as well to watch. The way you explain certain modpacks and on how they work were also easy to follow and led me to play inferno myself too! It really is a blast playing through the pack, I am aiming to get the minecolony to really be self sufficient and fully upgraded to everything tier 5. Like making a whole city as if I would be playing cities skylines or something! hahaha

My favourite base is ATM 7: All the sky, as for myself that is the first time i came across your channel. The flow of the base going from section to section is awesome and the elevator just takes it all the way.
For aesthetics definitely the castle from Enigmatica 2 as its the coolest, you truly see the amount of hours and dedication involved to make it look the way it does. It crazy! It amazing!
ps. You are now my most preferred Minecraft channel to watch, and also I've watched so many other Minecraft Influencer channels going from Mindcrack & Hermitcraft group to Captain Sparkles etc. The editing and the flow you bring to your videos bring a higher standard than videos they produce. An absolutely amazing video! I just found your channel recently, but have been playing modded minecraft for around 5 years. You have really challenged me to change my entire play style, as I used to only do what you would call "lawn bases". I'm currently playing through Enigmatica 6 Expert with a main emphasis on developing my base building skills. I'm almost done with your Divine Journey 2 playthrough, and it has really inspired me to make something awesome. Thanks for all of your time and dedication! It really comes through in your videos!

I feel like other similar videos (those that try to motivate you to keep playing your survival world) tend to resort to "just don't get bored bro", while you actually talk from personal experience about how to overcome this issue. Also, I really like your building style!

I'm playing DJ2 right now and it's the first time I'm actually building stuff instead of making a lawn base, I'm not very creative so I copied your limestone, basalt base design and modified it abit by adding white blocks, but I really underestimated how much more motivated I am when my base isn't an eyesore to look at
Also after hearing how proud/passionate you are of the collection project I will absolutely give it a watch
The Vanilla building is so cool! I've always thought about building my base in the vision of various mods being tied to certain buildings in a village, but I could never justify the logistics of it all. It just sounds like a nightmare. 😭
I binge watched some of these worlds over the course of a few weeks; the thing that hooked me was the rhythmic block placing during narratory intermissions and the b-rolls :)
Nice Video. I've always asked the question, "How do you play modded minecraft" especially without quests. I always found myself lost on how to start. I took a long break from minecraft literally from 1.12.2 and started back in 1.20.2. I have to re-learn all the new mod packs and how they function. I could never find myself progressing past the early stages because of building. Skyblock has always been my favorite type of modpack due to the fact it has less lag vs generating a whole world. I'm a huge fan of Project Ozone 3 and it sucked that a 4th iteration wasn't created. Now I heard there is a new 1.18 Project No Zone.

Great video! I often have problems finishing the modpacks I play, your perspective really helps with that. Also, I really like this kind of content presented the way you do and I'd love to see more. Keep up the good work!
I am a non-completer. Only games i've beaten ended around Golden Eye era. GTNH is my favorite pack. I also spend a lot of time in Cataclysm (CDDA)
My way of playing modpacks is like this:
-Start a world, get familiar with some of the mods (or use the mods you know from previous playthroughs)
-Build some efficient but kinda ugly farms (everything must be efficient and ugly)
-make a whole mess of the base, because there's cables everywhere
-build a solid storage system
-get OP armor and stuff, basically become a god (you have all the items, you're basically invincible)
-get bored, because you basically entered creative mode.
-start a new modpack, get further, because you get better and faster at playing modded minecraft with each playthrough
-get hooked because of some mods (mainly create, thermal expansion combined with extra utilities 2, EnderIO, EvilCraft, Tinker's Construct (but don't use it, just build a smeltery and then use it like 5 times and don't get yourself any armor or tools, even tho you have hundreds of cobalt and ardite).
-get annoyed by some mods (that mod when you have to eat different foods)
-enter peaceful mode (no monsters, no hunger, no distractions)
-repeat previous steps
-get bored
-start a new modpack or continue in old one (or both)
-relapse
I'm getting better and better at modded Minecraft, but I'm getting more and more impatient for building. I was never a builder. Once I tried to build something massive in Project Ozone 3, it seemed a bit too ugly, so i quit the modpack. When I don't build in modpacks, I don't get burnt out so easily, because I think that the machines are much more fun than building.
EDIT: You can call all my bases lawn bases. I just want to play with the mods and not get distracted by aesthetics.
Modded is life..... i remember started play modded on 1.2.5 old minecraft was so fun.....unfortunately i dont have anymore the backups :(

I foud your Channel back when you just started E2E and keept up with your videos ever since. You really inspired me especially with your Divine Journey 2 Playthrough. I even played the same Pack and used an almost identical Block Pallet and for that reason alone i must say DJ2 is my favourite Base so far. The walk down memory lane was really awesome and i am trully excited for your next series :)
That's a really great video because i do struggle with that and just saw one year old but still great. Modpacks look interesting so maybe gonna end up looking into that, keep the great work up or rather i hope you kept it up
I found you through Interactions and I think the aspect you've improved most in since then is the videomaking itself. At that point your videos were already way past the beginnings in E2:E, but they feel somewhat dry compared to nowadays. I find it impressive how much effort you put into making the videos enjoyable beyond the raw joy of watching someone complete a pack that I wouldn't have the motivation to finish (looking at you Divine Journey 2).
I liked this video a lot. I'm glad to see that it is possible, and this may sound weird, to grow and actually get better at the things you want to get better at in minecraft. I struggle a lot combining the things that I don't like with what I do like but am bad at, and it kinda drags the whole experience of modded mincreaft down for me. I tend to tapper out in enthusiasm around the point where I have a lot of resources automated, but have to fix things constantly because I'm either creating too much of something I don't really need, or not enough of something I do. Everything gets messy, or its just plopped out in the open and aesthetically unpleasant.
So long as you don't play another expert pack, I'll definitely be trying harder to play along (though I don't have as much time to put into this game as you). If you do, well, I'll still be happy to tune in and watch!
Personally, I was taking a break from minecraft RUclips during your collection series. But some of the episodes I watched were really nice. I liked watching you step out of your comfort zone and try and build a lot more.
My bases are always lawn bases. Mostly in air so I can put cables at the floor. No walls no roof, just tech.
This indeed helped me a lot I've never finished a mod pack I played and I indeed still put a lot of hour into them but never had the will to finish them
it's actually incredible the amount of time nd effort you've put into finishing these packs, you inspire me to keep going with them and make something cool! i would love to see a deep dive on base building since it's the thing i struggle with most in big modpacks. this is great stuff Three!

I gotta say, seeing the exteriors of all the other bases and seeing how everything fit together, I'd love to see a exterior view of the FTB Inferno that shows the exterior of everything underground to see how everything formed at the end. Beautiful showcase of all the packs and how you've played
The first (and only (yet)) modpack I ever finished was Create above and beyond it was pretty fun, I never had played with create before that and learned a lot. I would change a lot of things if I ever played it again but the end felt kinda empty idk maybe it wasn't finished yet or something. Some months ago I started divine journey 2 with the intention to complete it (I know a big step up) and I kinda got bored my error was to don't automate things the moment I could. haven't played for 2 months now and the last time I played it was only to passively automate elevatium. I was starting ch.13. It is really inspiring to see you play and invest this much time and effort in modpacks. Keep up the good work! My favorite base was the second enigmatica 2 base the big castle looks really really good
I've probably played and abandoned at least 40 modpacks in my time playing Minecraft. Both premade and custom. I have only ever beaten one modpack which was Stoneblock 2. So I guess you could say I struggle a little lmao. However, I have noticed that the more I play modded the farther I actually make it through modpacks. Years ago I would barely make it past basic ore doubling but now I would actually delve into mods quite a bit more. An example would be FTB Oceanblock where I'm actually somewhat close to entering endgame.
When it comes to motivation I have found that watching people on RUclips do playthroughs of modded really helps keep me motivated. Even if it's of modpacks that I've never played and don't consider ever trying out. Even watching this video makes me want to boot up a modpack and start playing. Stems off of Threefold mentioning that you should consider recording your creations and sharing them with people.
