We'll also get some footage of the loader "rolling the fire and watch the 963 Cat do some work...and we'll finish off with some good drone footage as I talk you through what you are seeing as we fly over the farm. Hope you enjoy!!

Josh, you are 100% correct on the wash with a slope. I learned this the hard way with folks that should have known better. It took 30 loads of dirt to fix the ruts. After the storm it sounded like niagara falls. Trouble was it was a fire break not a river. All your advice, equipment and fire is 100% spot on.

Never hurts to keep in touch with the operators. Keeps everyone on the same page. Most people use an excavator to stoke up burn piles. I noticed that is a rear mounted engine on that Cat. I have seen folks catch a front engine machine on fire by driving it up on burn piles. From the drone footage they are really doing a good job. I also see you put the tires back on the Gator. Thank you!!!!!!!

Grainger's carries high flow, gas powered transfer pumps. Not inexpensive but a good investment for your farm. That coupled with suction line, a good strainer valve & then flat rolling discrage line would be great for firefighting. The pump can also be used for other needs too. ✌️

In case you don’t know this, after those fires burn down and you’re left with nothing but coals… Those coals will still be hot months from now.
Literally… Months from now... unless they are spread out and rained on a lot.
I had one brush pile that I covered over with dirt to keep the embers from blowing. It sat there for about three months, getting rain on several times, and when I drove through it with my tractor I could feel the heat off of it. It was still very, very hot.
I’ve got several videos about brush pile burning safety.
    Stay safe.
    alan

Great video ! All it takes is about 500 hrs of machine time to have a used one of your own to play with ! FWIW, I suspect your operator is working the longest sight lines he has . He may well have the intent to carve some 'stair steps ' angled across the hillside when he's done with the primary grade , presuming he knows your intentions on planting the tract . Being your own General Contractor has lots of pitfalls for the inexperienced !

Funny I found this old video of yours. I clear land with a 973C, I’m glad my air conditioning works on my machine and I don’t have to run an open door like him. I let the farmers I clear land for burn the piles. Let’s the fire wait for ideal conditions. $100 an hour, did you pay for his fuel too? He ain’t making money at that rate.

County soil conservation can do a grant and engineered plan. You should be stacking slash for a season then burn. Much of it could have been mulched. Your loader is big enough to turn mulch.local landscapers let them dump a section of your property. Local tree services won't have to pay recycle cost. We throw in truck load fish guts.

Great video Josh. Some people during the live stream yesterday don't realize the unreliability of a weather forecast and how it can change in a heartbeat in some areas. Also a little fire isn't bad for the land as the ash adds nutrients back to the soil and encourages new growth.

You keep on talking to your contractors. Just because some is a "professional" doesn't mean they know what they are doing. • @ArkansasPilgrim
      @ArkansasPilgrim 6 лет назад +2

Technically, a "professional" is someone who gets paid to do something; an "amateur" is someone who does it because they love it (Latin root "amare": to love). Being good at it is another thing.
Kind of like the word "expert". It means that someone has published something on the subject. Knowing what they are talking about is another thing.

Right, have respect they are the pro, but ask good questions, and remember, they are not as bbn invested as you are with your home. Get your questions out while bidding, pick the good price that meets your criteria from the questions, and then verify once onsite, that you and them are in agreement. Dont rush or settle, these are really important parts.

I like your setup on the Gator! Could you explain your tool setup as well as the carry-all between the roll bars. I'd like to do something like this and would love to have you explain your setup. I have a farm in Central Oklahoma and am setting my place & tools up. Thanks Josh!

You have a valid concern Josh, If you get huge storm and a field of dirst and it's slope if you get enough water flowing your definetly headed for soil erosion. If you do your groves it will break that flow up and keep the water from getting too much turbulence in the flow and washing your dirt away. And agree with getting that grass seed in asap, the guicker the seed can take, the quicker your dirst starts to sprout some grass and then again no soil erosion from rain in the future due to the grass suckin that water up and helping it grow

Amen!!! We got 3 inches of rain sunday in about 20 minutes!!! The new grass on the other side of the hill picked up the water and kept things in check....worked like a charm!!

The video from 3 years ago about the 963B there was another track loader and an excavator. What was that doing there?
